Mamma Mia Pontefract in Wakefield

Always been here and enjoyed it, dining area very tired with damp on the roof and crumbing plaster. Food usually good however on this occasion missing items and awful spaghetti bolognaise. Pizza was fine, chips come and very hard in the middle. The service the staff give you is absolutely fantastic to be honest all very accommodating and care about there customers 5* on service. Food appears to be going down hill.

Never been before, didn’t even know it was there, but I’m glad I found it, pizza is bloody lovely thank you.

9 of us visited to celebrate our 43rd anniversary. Atmosphere & service very good. Food excellent. Complimentary bread lovely when we first sat down. Lemocello liquor complimentary to finish. Will definitely be returning .😀

Haven't been for a few years, very disappointed with the mozzarella corozza starter, then had chicken with crab and prawn, couldn't taste any crab, very, very disappointed 😥

1st time trying here and came on a friends recommendation. We were booked in for 7pm and it was very busy so had to wait a little for our table but our orders were taken while waiting and once we were seated our food wasn’t long before it was served. We all had something different and we all enjoyed. The decor made you feel you were sat in a taverna. However I did think it could have done with having a little spruce up. The staff were pleasant and friendly and I believe we spoke to the owner who gave us a limoncello with our bill. All in all a lovely evening out.

Shame that we had to heat it up as it came lukewarm. However, once hot it was lovely

The staff and service is the best i have ever seen. The owners are so accomodating and are great throughout the sitiing. We love it. The food is also really nice & reasonable in price but when you get service like you do they could charge what they want. We will be back thats for sure 10/10 easy

Great food. Fabulous service. Nothing was too much trouble. Cracking atmosphere. Excellent value for money. But beware if you've not been for a while or are a new visitor of the prepayment car park adjacent to the restaurant. Check with Mamma Mia for details. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Great place, lovely staff. Food was lovely, and when my steak wasn't right, they went back and straight away sorted without hesitation. (steak was very nice also). Lovely shots at the end of the evening. Lovely place 🥰 I had a calzone last time , and I highly recommend that.

A bit disappointed to be honest, it was extremely noisy which I didn't expect on a week night, so I don't think I would go with my children again. They didn't have what I was going to order and they brought my husband the wrong main course and asked if he would be ok with that, he didn't want that so had to wait for the item he had ordered to be made. The food we had was nice enough but overall a disappointing night.

Food was disappointing. We had pizzas, the topping was greasy and just fell off the base. The bottoms of the pizza were overcooked! Front of house were welcoming however the waitress was very rude and rushed us out. Won't be back.

Lively place with a good atmosphere. Staff friendly and helpful. With this place being quiet popular, parking can be an issue. Advisable to arrive early to avoid disappointment

Fantastic food and service. A great atmosphere all round for a date night or meal with friends. I would recommend the fillet steak and pepperoni pizza! The garlic bread is out of this world! Will be back

Lovely restaurant, the only thing that spoit it for us was... as our party was only 2... our table was at the side... right next to a beam (floor th ceiling)... so everytime someone walked past, they walked right up close, sometimes knocking things on the table... felt we had been squeezed in! Aslo had to wait ages for my 2nd drink...we had to adk a 2nd time for another drink.... I had finished eating... they had forgotten!

ordered spaghetti carbonate and got tagliatelle..very bland. prawn and avacado starter was tiny. lettuce was brown. titanium dessert was 3 mouthfuls. really disappointing

I went two weeks with my friend and his wife. It was the first time I’ve been to Mamma Mia‘s for a long time. The food was amazing. The service was amazing. The atmosphere was amazing. The staff were amazing. I would give it 10 out of 10 really nice people and the food were so special I wanted to take my own.

Me and my family went on Tuesday night for food and it was amazing! And what topped our night of was our son is autistic and they did everything possible to help him enjoy going out for a meal (witch is something that my son does not like doing they also accommodated to his taste buds by allowing me to bring him yorkshire puddings and letting him eat with us so he did not feel left out! Thank you for an amazing meal and an amazing night. And a massive thank you for being so patient and understanding to my son with a disability 💙

A lovely family restaurant for both small and large groups - we were a large group and the service and hospitality exceeded expectations. The menu is diverse and includes all of the Italian classics - at great value for money prices. The bar area and parking out front is a bonus!

Disappointed. We have had great meals at mamma Mia’s restaurant so spent £50 on a meal for takeout. Unfortunately the food was initially estimated 5.15-5.30 which was a 35-50 min wait. It kept getting delayed until it was delivered at 6.25 which means we waited 1hr 45mins. Then after the long wait the pizza was cold, the lasagne portion tiny, barely 2.5inch square and black on the top. I wouldn’t order take out from here again.

Loved this place, small family run very friendly and a great atmosphere. There is a comfortable bar area separate from the restaurant. I didn't have to book in advance although it may be an idea to do so as it tends to get busy not long after opening at 5pm. The food was delicious and well priced. I sampled several dishes but my favourite was the meatfeast calzone but be warned its a monster ( but delicious) and I loved the pate starter. I would recommend this place if you love your Italian food. ❤👍

Amazing food, served by polite helpful memebers of staff. Everyone of them will go the extra mile from the customer, been a handful of times and everytime i visit the food is sensational. Cannot wait to return.

Having visited a couple of years ago- I didn't hold great expectations for my visit on Saturday. However- I was very pleasantly surprised! All the food we had was delicious and the staff were very attentive even though it was really busy. We showed up a little earlier than planned and they still got us our table quickly and let us order before we sat down so our food would be ready. We had a great experience and will definitely be returning. Thankyou!

Food was flat cold on arrival had to reheat the full meal!

Huge disappointment! The pasta was very over cooked, pasta sauce was bland, I’ve literally had better from a jar, the steak was chewy. Was inedible only had a few bites. Pizza was tastier, but very greasy, so much so I had grease dripping down my arm. Only ate half and that’s because I was very hungry. Tiramisu was tasty but a small portion for what I paid. I won’t be ordering again. First and last time unfortunately

It is a perfect Italian restaurant in every way. It has a vast menu with so much variety that you spend some time deciding ( over an aperitif, of course) . The food is exceptional and authentic.

I am just disappointed it didn’t give me the 20 per cent discount it promised on just eat website

Beautiful atmosphere, excellent food and wonderful service. I’m on holiday visiting for the first time in the UK from the states and I have to say that this is the best Italian I’ve ever had.

Felt like the forgotten table. Long wait to order drinks. 30 minutes to order food, then over 30 minutes before it arrived. Table next to us arrived after us and had their starter and main before us having main course only. Food arrived luke warm, cleared table then we had to ask for dessert menu. Just not good enough. We won't be coming back.

We went here after recommendation from locals. Starters we had kind prawns in garlic butter (was mostly butter) very bland I had to add salt, pizza bread & garlic mushrooms which were average. The mains Pizza (undercooked) very basic disappointing crust, pasta dishes were very good but small. Lasagne was the best I’ve tasted in a long time. Only 1 type of white wine available (house white). Very over crowded room made it noisy & cramped around other tables. Backs of chairs from tables were touching when sat. Owner was rude to customers & staff. Wouldn’t recommend. Will not be visiting again

I recently visited Mama Mia's with the family (a group of 6) and, unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. The food seemed more like pub grub pretending to be Italian cuisine, and it lacked the authenticity I expected. While the service was passable, the busy staff appeared rushed, and it impacted the overall dining experience. While the food was Ok and our plates were left empty, I’ve had similar quality food at my local pub. Firstly, the speedy delivery of our food was impressive, given how busy the restaurant was. However, a mix-up with the orders left one of our group waiting while the rest of us ate, which was disappointing. I ordered the Fillet Steak Pizza and, as someone that loves spicy food, I asked for some added spice on my pizza. Regrettably, the pizza lacked any spice whatsoever therefore I didn’t enjoy it as much as I had hoped. It was decent but far from outstanding. Similarly, my wife's Pollo Aversa (creamy chicken and prawns) did not live up to our expectations of authentic Italian cuisine. On a positive note, the portions were generous, and we left with full bellies! The service was adequate, given how busy it was, but the staff were clearly overwhelmed. When the waitress brought parmesan to our table, it was only offered to one person before she hurried off, taking the parmesan with her. It would have been nice to have some parmesan on both our meals. Additionally, I asked for some spicy sauce to add a bit of zing to my pizza, which they failed to do as originally requested. The only option available was chilli oil. What sort of restaurant kitchen doesn’t have Tabasco sauce or chilli flakes? To add to the disappointment, our bill included a meal none of us had ordered, which they didn’t dispute and quickly corrected. Although they did offer us a complimentary shot during our post-meal drinks, and the staff were all super friendly, it didn’t make up for the overall average experience. While the prices were reasonable, I cannot say that I will be enthusiastically recommending Mama Mia's to my friends. It's an okay choice if you're looking for simple, unremarkable pub-style Italian food. However, I would advise looking elsewhere for those seeking an authentic Italian restaurant experience.

Work outing, been a few times, and always been happy. Had the salmon in sauce, sauce was lovely though salmon was quite tough, almost like it had been microwaved?? I did mention to the waitress who laughed it off. I would go back but would never order salmon again, £17.50 for a few chips as I left the fish

The customer service was very attentive couldn't do enough for you. I only scored down because my pizza base was burnt I was offered another & when I didn't want another they offered to remove cost of which I declined the pizza topping was still tasty .. 😋 will go back

The food is good but you don’t always get it all at the same time. Portions are massive. I love the guy that comes round to jovially heckle the customers, that’s a good touch.

This is my all time favourite place and try to go as often as I can. This is a regular place myself and the girls go for a catch up and a cracking meal never disappoints if I could give more stars then I would. Gino is always welcoming and tonight the staff went above and beyond to accommodate my temporary dietary needs and it was greatly appreciated. Hubby was jealous that I went without him 🤣

Food was excellent. Waited a long time for coffees at the end of the meal. Place was busy and very noisy - unable to hear what our friends were saying to us.

Excellent service from the nice and friendly staff. Food was excellent, tender cooked steaks for us both followed by excellent desserts. Only let down was being sat next to young female teenagers who kept looking at us so we sat outside and there were kids running around us, but this is of no fault to the restaurant. Will certainly pay another visit again soon. Plenty of parking for visitors.

Recently went for my friends birthday celebrations there was 30 of us and the food and service was great. Lovely atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

We came to Mamma Mias as a party of 13 for a special occasion and we had a wonderful time. The majority of us had starters and mains and they were absolutely brilliant. The calamari I had was probably the best cooked calamari I had ever had, and I absolutely love calamari so that made my night! And my Calzone with olives was wonderful. The tomato sauce on the top is just gorgeous and we all loved our food. And the kids demolished their ice creams! We will definitely be back again, hopefully really soon!

Unfortunately it was very disappointing. My main was euined by excessively salty bolognese sauce. Was really lookng foward to it and wanted so much to enjoy it. Starter and main also arrived cold, particularly the sauce which was not even luke warm. On the plus side it arrived promptly and was very well packaged and presented. Perhaps a bad day or batch.

Good service from start to finish. It was mostly lovely food, but the salmon was quite tasteless. My partner said his calzone was to die for and starters nice too.
