Mamma Mia in Stirling

A decent place if you are looking for an authentic Italian meal. The staff was very attentive, and portions of food were pretty hefty, too. A but on a slower side, though.

Booked a table for 8pm and was very much looking forward to our meal. When we arrived we were told we had to come back later as it was busy. The waiter was quite abrupt and said people were at the table and he couldn’t ask them to leave. I’m aware there’s not much room but there was no offer of a drink or if we wanted to sit down at the entrance. We ended up going to another Italian restaurant round the corner and had a lovely time. Very disappointed

The reason for dropping a star is because one member of staff was quite abrupt when we arrived which kinda set the tone, although as time went on the behaviour became more positive. The food is delicious and piping hot and overall Mamma Mia is a great wee restaurant. I just wish the staff would raise their game as this is the one part that lets the overall experience down.

Great atmosphere and superb food. The waiting staff were helpful and enthusiastic, which helped to make the evening special. The sugo is the house speciality with bags of flavour but they also offer a wide variety of vegetarian options. Ideal for a special occasion or just a night out for couples or families.

One of the best pizzas eaten abroad, spectacular risotto. Excited to find Italian cuisine as it represents, all Italian products. It's nice to see Saverio's professionalism and passion 🔝. And compliments to the chef. Thank you

Just wonderful. Fitted us in last minute, and then the food, atmosphere and kindness from all the team made us feel really welcome and relaxed. Gorgeous flavours in all our dishes. Also, from now on, I will just use the yolks in my carbonara and not the whole egg. Thank you so much for such an enjoyable and educational time

Our super bad experience: It was raining so much, we entered to see the menu and the owner said that the menu was outside. I guess he suggested going in the middle of the rain to read his menu 😂. I asked him if we could read it in the inside and he gave it to us in a rude way. We didn't move to other restaurant due to the bad weather but if it had been sunny, we would have changed, for sure. Moreover, the food wasn't that good and the service was unpolite and made us feel like they wanted us to pay and leave. They had an anward of Hospitality and we cannot understand how... There are many restaurants so don't hesitate and go to other one in which you can enjoy your meal without feeling that your presence annoys.

I don't give fewer stars because it's not possible. The food was very expensive (way above any other Italian) and not worth it. In addition, they have charged us €5 extra for a service that has been unpleasant, inattentive and rude. There is another Italian 100m away much better, don't think twice. Here the hospitality award they had only served to decorate the wall! Absolutely not recommended

Food was nice, portion size poor, thought I'd been served a kids portion of Lasagne, with very little meat content, we were robbed, wont be back, owners dismissive attitude on my complaint was "nobody's complained before" 😂

The food was great, I ate a pizza and it was delicious but expensive and the Italian owner rushed us to decide because he said they were closing now, this made us a little upset...it's not good customer service. 4 people €100

It’s a great place, quick service, amazing food, tasted incredibly, good prices, lovely staff. They have gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options as well. One of the top restaurants in Stirling. Went into the restaurants to order a takeaway for me and my flatmate, was in and out in like 15 min, really good.

Pizzas were absolutely delicious - the best in Stirling. The waiter wasn’t friendly. I’d say it rather unusual for Stirling. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the cleanliness of the restaurant during my visit. I was taken aback to find cobwebs in the fireplace and on the ceiling. There was dust on the fake flowers decorating windowsill. This lack of cleanliness was quite off-putting and detracted from the ambiance of the restaurant. P.S. The soap in the bathroom wasn’t actually a soap but foam water.

Had pizza, mussels and drinks with colleagues here and it was a fantastic experience! The host was very welcoming and accommodating (great attention to detail about dietary needs) and kept us in good spirits throughout; the waiting staff very good, and food simply delicious. The pizza is simply *chefs kiss* I will be returning and definitely recommend this restaurant

Was staying across at the Hotel and looking forward to a lovely Italian meal. Waited outside on it opening, and was surprised that an apparently mid-east chef was blaring out mid-east sounding ‘chants’. Made an enquiry, and gut-instinct kicked in. Off to Wotherspoons.,!

The food is exceptional with the atmosphere to match. Staff and owner are friendly yet professional. Food is served in a timely manner and they have mastered the ability to make it taste like an authentic home cooked meal. Really does make you feel like you've momentarily left Scotland! We were made to feel welcome and given all the time we wanted to enjoy or visit. Will definitely be back when we are next in Stirling.

Dropped in for dinner with my friend. The owner was straight out to welcome us. we were shown to our table and ordered drinks. perusing the menu we decided to share foccacia mozerella and I chose the lasagne. before long I was tucking into my lasagne with chips. it had a delightful homemade flavour. would recommend this to anyone.will keep coming back.

EDITO: lo que él llama pinta entera era una simple caña en España, pero la cobró como si fuese jarra. The whole coke era un vasito de Coca Cola de 200 ml, por favor, a quién pretende engañar. Y la caponata era eso, un poco de berenjena, cuando digo poco es MUY POCO. Una estafa.

We were hoping for a traditional Italian experience with atmosphere and quality of food. They did not disappoint. So relaxing and fun and the food was top notch.

Visited several times, and became a regular. Mamma Mia meets the highest continental standards in terms of ingredients' quality and recipe authenticity. Whilst the attached picture features pizza, all of which are exceptional, the whole menu is worth sampling, from the home mussels to regional pasta dishes. And let's not forget a small but outstanding selection of desserts, chief amongst which the tiramisù. Award-winning wine list, from which you could choose blindfolded, and still not get it wrong. Very efficient service, and quite reasonable prices, especially considering quality. Booking advisable on busy evenings.

Nous avions réservé une table pour 2 pour 20h et avons eu la “mauvaise” idée d’arriver 10 minutes avant. La table n’était pas prête et le gérant / patron m’a signifié que nous avions dix minutes d’avance. Comme il y avait une table vide et surtout non dressée à côté du comptoir, je lui ai répondu que ce n’était pas grave, que nous pouvions attendre à cette table. Il n’a pas voulu et nous a fait comprendre qu’il fallait attendre à l’extérieur - il faisait 0 degrés et il gelait!- Après lui avoir dit qu’il était mal élevé, nous avons tourné les talons et sommes allés dîné ailleurs! J’ai voyagé dans plus de 30 pays et fréquenté des centaines de restaurants de toutes gammes de prix: c’est la première fois que je suis aussi mal reçue!

Had a bizarre evening here where we ordered food and drinks, and the drinks just never came. Asked three times and consigned ourselves to eating without them. Then had to ask four or so times for the bill, which when it finally came they tried to charge us for the drinks that never appeared. And added a service charge as well! Food, for what it's worth, was good, but the service was the worst I'd experienced in a long time.

The best pasta dishes ever! We had the assorted seafood spaghetti (with Scottish mussels) and the house special pasta with Scotttish beef ribs. Pared with a great wine list from the Puglia region where the owners are from! Totally fabulous. And finish with Tiramisu? Marvelous!

Rated food a 5 because I never got to try it spent ages lookin for this place got there and there was noise coming from downstairs not a soul around to welcome us in waited a couple mins we could smell cigarette some like they were smokin downstairs and we decided to leave , shame as the place was recommended to us

My husband and I visited Mamma Mia when visiting Stirling for our 4th anniversary. The food and service was outstanding and was one of the best meals out I have had. The wine was delicious too. The staff were so attentive and helpful. I could not recommend this place enough and I will be definitely revisiting if I am in the area again!

The food was so fresh and delicious! however our server made us feel very out of place due to the attitude towards us when asking for requests such as add ons to our meals. Like i said the food was great and tasted very fresh however the vibe of the overall restaurant didn’t live up to the expectations (reviews online) which is why we decided to dine there in the first place. The manager (or what looked like) came over to our table at the end and apologised for all of our concerns which we appreciated as he was so understanding and apologetic. However our server just made what felt like huffs and gruffs whenever our table needed attending.

Booked ahead on the day over the telephone for four people ( business colleagues at 7pm ). Due to weather, arrived just 8 minutes late. Messy and empty tables immediately on show but was happy to wait at the bar if necessary and have a drink. Instead, the ignorant and rude owner told us to ‘stand outside and wait a further 15 minutes ‘because we were late’ ????? Astonishing and unbelievable attitude. Disgraceful.

Was recommended as a nice place to eat. Food was very good. Group of ten people. Last night of together with friends. Split in to two tables in the rear of the premises. As one of the company was late the remainder of the company was not served drinks and could not order food until last person arrived. This was a 10minutes delay. The manager/owner was adamant that it was customers fault as a member of the company was 5minutes late. We were not served even a drink under instruction of the manager/owner for a further 20 minutes. The restaurant was not busy at the time.

Always have dinner here when visiting friends in Stirling. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable regarding the menu. Never been disappointed with the food, tried pizza to risotto and gnocchi…..all delicious!

The place was absolutely packed but we got the last table. We were told that we would have to be patient with the service. After two weeks in Scotland, it was some of the best service we received on our trip. The food came quickly and was absolutely fantastic. We are traveling with a couple of friends from Italy and they raved about the food.

We went tonight as a family my self, partner and 2 kids boy 16 girl 13. Food and service were excellent given that the restaurant was fully booked!! Staff extremely friendly. Service charge was removed by manager due to slow service and he couldn't apologise enough. However we felt this was unfair and asked for the service charge to be added back on. We felt the service was good despite it being so busy. Especially is a Saturday night!! Can't wait to return. Thank you again to your lovely front of house staff and compliments and thanks to the chefs who cooked our meals xx

Before visiting Mama Mia, we read the reviews on Trip Adviser. They ranged from one-star, citing the rudeness of the manager, to five-star, praising the excellence of the food. Both were correct. The manager was exceptionally rude and boorish, especially in the way he mistreats his staff (they must be exceptionally well-paid to put up with the abuse he hands out to them in front of customers) but the food was excellent. Somewhat overpriced at over £100 for two courses for two plus an indifferent bottle of Italian plonk. A 12.5% service charge was added but we didn’t have the heart to ask for it to be removed because of the treatment we had seen the staff receiving. However, we go to restaurants for the food and we had no complaints about that - so four stars. But we won’t be back.

The rudest, obnoxious reception from the the owner/manager. The place appeared virtually empty but this rude man said no reservation & waved us away. No asking if we would like to have a drink & wait for a table to open or even if we would like to make a future reservation. With such an obnoxious attitude this business deserves to fail. Would have given zero stars but this app requires at least one. All other Italian restauranteurs would be ashamed of this level of inhospitality.

The food was outstanding - the service significantly less so. Two of our party arrived early, and were seated with drinks, when our friends arrived they placed a drinks order with the waitress but it never arrived. We then asked the waiter, who disappeared before the host had to come to the table and clarify the order. The starters were delicious, but when the waitress came to clear the plates away, she cleared two and then started serving another table before she had finished, and only came back when she spotted us as she went to put cutlery on a table. The staff were not very attentive, and while the main courses were delicious we were disappointed to be told that the restaurant wanted the table back by 8pm, something which had not been communicated to us when we sat down. We were then further disappointed to find a service charge of 12.5% had been added to the bill. The food was magnificent, but the atmosphere and the inattentive staffing let this down somewhat, hopefully we just caught them on a bad night.

We visited today with our 9 month old daughter and it was really enjoyable. All staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food was excellent, I think it’s perhaps one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. We’ll definitely be back at some point! Thanks for a lovely lunch.

Very glad to have visited Mamma Mia! It was not open on our first day in Stirling (Monday), but luckily we were able to get a table the next day. The manager was lovely, warm and welcoming. Our food (pasta, pizza and lasagna) was brilliant and the wine the manager suggested went swimmingly with the meal. I am a tiramisu fan and the Mamma Mia offering did not disappoint.

Sub-par food but didn't expect much for a casual lunch. Real issue is staff. After maybe 15minutes we were told we had to leave in ten minutes to open up tables. 5 minutes later we had been told three times to shove off while we were still finishing coffees that had just been dropped on the table. Avoid at all costs.

The food and atmosphere in this restaurant is amazing and authentic, the staff are so lovely and friendly but unfortunately the owner is quite arrogant and dismissive. We’ve been twice now in the last couple of weeks and have recommended the restaurant to so many people but tonight kind of put me off. I’m not sure what his name is but he’s not doing his restaurant any favours, thankfully his lovely staff make up for him and his attitude. Please take note of what you have and appreciate your customers, they’ll come back if you make the effort because your food and staff are wonderful.

A delightful restaurant split over two floors in a historic building in the heart of Stirling's old town. The charming staff fitted us in on a very busy summer evening and served us with beautifully cooked pollo all caccitora and southern Italian pizza. We started with mussels in cream and saffron and everything was incredibly fresh and completely delicious. They also have ice cold Moretti on tap. It has to the best Italian in Stirling and one of the best in Scotland.

A very small, very quirky little restaurant in an odd shaped quirky building. We booked a table and were seated very quickly. The staff were fantastic, the guy who was waiting on us was brilliant, he spoke in Italian, French, English and Scottish. When we asked for a little extra parmesan he ladled it out like there was no end of it...total nutter but extremely friendly and funny. The food.... delicious and a good quantity. My lasagne was incredible and my partner, who is a coeliac had the best penne Bolognese she's had in the UK. A little pricey but you get what you pay for and we felt it was well worth it.

We ordered pizza and gnocchi plus drinks for dinner. The place is mall and nice. We booked our table, still had to wait 10 - 15 min to be seated. Staff? My partner ordered coke zero as he doesn't like the taste of diet coke, when she brought diet coke to the table we complained and she was making faces at it. Rude. We wouldn't say the food was amazing, it was OK ish only. We expected something very Italian and tasty. Won't go back. No idea how they got all those awards. Makes you wonder.

We arrived at this restaurant by chance, after visiting Stirling Castle on a rainy day. We didn't have any expectations, but to our surprise, it was the best spaghetti carborana we have ever eated. This happened 6 years ago, and we still remember this restaurant and its food. It's clear that when we'll come back to Stirling, we'll come back to this restaurant too.
