I visited Mama Mia in North Hill Gate today around 4:45 PM with a friend and three children. Unfortunately, what should have been a pleasant dining experience turned into a deeply disappointing one due to the unprofessional and rude behavior of the staff.Upon our arrival, we were seated outside, and I began checking the menu to see if there were any kid's portions available. When the waitress came over, I politely inquired if they offered any children's portions, to which she curtly replied "no" without any attempt to be helpful or considerate. When I asked about the size of the regular portions, hoping they might be sufficient for the kids, she responded dismissively, giving the impression that we were a bother to her.As my friend joined us at the table, the waitress continued to behave with a clear attitude, maintaining a negative demeanor throughout our interaction. We decided to order a single pasta dish to share between the children, and this seemed to upset her further. She repeatedly questioned us, asking at least five times if we were really only ordering one pasta, as if she couldn’t believe it. Her disbelief was so apparent that she started gossiping with a colleague right in front of us, visibly stressed by our decision.Feeling increasingly uncomfortable, I requested to speak with the manager. The waitress claimed she was the manager, but her attitude remained the same, which made me doubt her claim. I expressed my concerns about the poor service, pointing out that we were being treated badly and that she had not even checked on us after taking our order. She continued to be dismissive and unprofessional, and eventually admitted that she was not the manager after all, confirming my suspicions.To make matters worse, it became clear that our treatment may have been influenced by the fact that we were speaking Portuguese. The restaurant staff, including a waitress from a neighboring Italian restaurant, began gossiping about us in Italian. My friend, who speaks Italian, overheard one of them calling us derogatory names. As a Brazilian who understands some Italian, I could also sense the hostility directed towards us.Overall, our experience at Mama Mia was marred by unprofessionalism, rudeness, and what felt like discriminatory behavior. As someone who works in the area and has always enjoyed being part of this community, I am deeply disappointed by this incident. I sincerely hope that this review reaches the actual manager or owner, as this type of service is unacceptable and needs to be addressed.

We had an afternoon shindig at Mamma Mia's after my dad's funeral as it was the place Mike and Betty loved most in EastSheen. Rosa's Puglia inspired food was wonderful, and Leo kept our glasses of Chilled Prosecco topped up, bless him. Can't recommend it enough.

We loved our experiences. Even though we were early and the restaurant was closed, the owners greeted is with warm smile and opened early for us. The food was lovely, I'd say it's well priced. I find it difficult to belive the negative reviews about "rudness". Regarding slow paced service, the atmosphere is very relaxrd and they were in no hurry to "kick us out: so I actually prefer the atmosphere of this resturant . Definitely new date night spot for us

Lovely, traditional family restaurant. Friendly owners, lovely food and proper, welcoming service where you have time to chat between courses and certainly won't be rushed out of the door. The restaurant has so much character, is always beautifully decorated with flowers and the garden is a real treat in summer. This is a proper, family-run business which has been in Sheen for nearly half a century and well worth a visit for those who enjoy a relaxed and delicious meal.

Went there for mothersday. Disappointing. Small restaurant and only a couple of us so thought we wouldn't be a problem despite 2 large groups next to us. Took a while before given a menu, ordered, 1 lobster special and some pasta, disappointed with the carbonara, looked hastyly done, small protion and looked unappealing, my missus makes better and she's carribean. Once finished we were left with the plates for a good ten minutes at least. Priority was clearly given to the larger tables, we were ignored. Then waited another 10 for dessert menu, ordered 1 dessert, finally came but messed up our order , waiter went to enquire, never returned, had to get someone else attention to help, went away, came back asked for bill, never came back, this is about another 20 mins then had to go up to ask for the bill which for 2 people came to £90! Poor customer service. Left feeling foolish, dissatisfied and ripped off. Don't believe the hype.

we came for valentine’s day and just wanted to share a 3-course meal between the two of us as we had just wanted to experience the restaurant and had previously eaten beforehand. First, we felt obliged to order from the wine menu even though we don’t drink alcohol and were met with heavy resistance to wanting to order just a single 3-course meal. After receiving the food and seeing others receive theirs, we were severely disappointed at the portions of our own food compared to the others customers. It seemed that they had halved our portions. The staff member was also trying to trick us when ordering by saying we should order two of the valentines courses and was rude when we insisted we only needed one. Would not go again as food was mediocre for the price and staff were quite rude.

We dropped in here for a late lunch, I think it was 14:30 or thereabouts, there was a large party in the back and the front of the place was empty apart from us and a solitary diner. This place is relaxed but up market, initial servis felt a but too relaxed but we were in no hurry so we slowed down too. Food was excellent, fresh, tasty and well prepared. We spent far too long over lunch and enjoyed doing it.

This restaurant is absolutely a hidden gem. Leonardo and Rosa are very hospitable; Leonardo greated us and took my coat. He is up for a laugh and very respectable. Their family have 5 businesses on Upper Richmond Road. Rosa’s authentic Italian food is spectacular for the price, as is the intimate setting; it is a small restaurant, perfect for a couple or a group of friends out celebrating. It’s a very fine and cosy atmsophere, rather fancy, and somewhere I’d go on occassion. It is my favourite restaurant I’ve ever been to, because of how warm Leonardo and Rosa make it; their friendliness makes it feel like you are dining in their lovely home, and there is a wall of fame where you can see photos of VIPs have visited.

A comfortable family restaurant with friendly staff. The homemade food is good, and the price is unbeatable. They allowed us to bring my dog, and my vegan boyfriend had no trouble finding a suitable dish – they customized a plate to his liking. I recommend it 100%.

Great experience! Highly recommended and we will be back. Prices are AMAZING for someone living in London, food is proper “in house made”.. honestly one of the best restaurants we have been in 10 years in London, very authentic and the staff and service are lovely.

Food was ok. New to London, didn’t know the tipping process for restaurants. When I received the bill, I noticed a 12% service charge. I asked the server (the one who lived in Venice) if that was the tip and he said no, but if I wanted to leave a tip it had to be cash. Being used in Canada to leaving tips, we left an additional £5. The cash request disturbed me, and when I returned to the hotel, I googled tipping in London restaurants. If the service charge is added to the bill, you do not tip. He was very dishonest and was double tipped. I would never go back to this restaurant again due to this dishonesty.

Moved into Roehampton area a year ago and this rapidly became my favorite restaurant and much better than many well known restaurants in central London. This is an outstanding restaurant run by the family for the last 38 years with two brothers serving and the sister Rosa cooking the most wonderful meals. Crisp white table clothes and serviettes surrounded by pleasant decor and outside gardens during better weather with adjoining wine bar. This is a real gem that I have been to some 15 times in the last year with easy parking outside, excellent food and wine and all at most reasonable prices. This is a MUST for those who enjoy good food in a relaxed atmosphere! This is the first time I have ever submitted a restaurant review. 2nd Jan 2023 - still my favourite restaurant and now go about twice a month and get them to provide food for our parties at home. Scrumptious!

Popped in for a drink and snack. Coffee (latte) was pleasant enough, very hot. The almond croissant however was soggy and lacked flavour. Very disappointing especially as it cost around £3.50. Plenty of other options in the area

3rd or 4th visit, food is average at the very best. Small portions, not cheap and rather bland. Dessert was a wet, sloppy rather nasty half baked cake with a meringue topping🤮

Very nice and homey restaurant with friendly staff/owner. The fresh pasta is very tasty and filling and the starters are a good portion as well. And the desserts (Tiramisu and cheesecake) are great.

I’ve been coming into the cafe on and off for a couple of years now and it always feels like a warm hug when you pass through the doors. Food is amazing, they are totally accommodating to children, dogs and loud noises (my eldest can be overly chatty like most kiddies with Down Syndrome can be). I can’t thank them enough for making me feel at home before, during and after moving into the area. Totally worth a drink, a snack, or stop for full meal! You will not be disappointed.

A hidden gem of a truly authentic, family run Italian restaurant. The food was sublime and with wine to match. you can taste the quality and freshness of the ingredients, and the service was equally brilliant. Some of the best bruschetta I can remember having. 5 stars all day long.

This restaurant gets better and better and retains its simplicity and the family is charming. I live in a country of fantastic food and wine, but I have to say that this little place punches way above its weight. I won't go through the menu, we were a party of six and chose various things - and it was all very, very good. Dona Rosa controls the kitchen. Congratulations!

We have been frequenting this establishment for the last thirty years. Leo, Rosa and Jo have become dear friends . Food is consistently good with a home made touch. Dining al fresco here is just like being in Italy.

Had the pleasure of celebrating my birthday at Mamma Mia, I am not going to stay here listing all the positive experiences because they are simply too many. To summarise it all in a a couple of words, it was SIMPLY EXCELLENT from start to finish

Really Horrible Experience. From the offset the staff were very rude and obnoxious after we were confused about whether the neighbouring restaurants were affiliated ( with different names and telephone numbers and different styling we were confused about whether they were the same restaurant) which they were. The menu is extremely overpriced with a single breaded chicken breast with cheese costing over £14, I was expecting veg or some sort of side to accompany it but no, a tired. flat, mcdonalds esque chicken breast arrived on a massive empty plate. My friend had a lasagna which we were assured had meat in it ( we were very hungry from a day in richmond park and were seeking a filling meal), the tiny portion of lasagna was entirely veg based with mushrooms. Which is fine if thats what you're after but we weren't. At the end of the meal, we were overcharged because we asked for the smaller portion sizes which cost less but received a bill for the larger sizes which the slimey waiter refused the change. Upon paying with my card, the slimey waiter insisted that i had cancelled the transaction instead of confirming my pin, I needed to obtain my online banking app to show him he was lying before he let us leave the restaurant, avoid at all costs. Disgusting service, bland average food. Horrible staff and extremely overpriced.

Wow! Just wow! Went yesterday with the fam at about 9 PM after a lovely walk in richmond park. Right from entering the place we were greeted by the owner, got asked to sanitize our hands, and tested our temperatures. The whole place was sparkling clean. The waiter/owner was patient while we changed our seats to outdoor seating instead. They accomodated our choices and let us order special orders that arent on the menu. The complimentary fresh bread with olive oil was delicious and freshly baked, the vibes were amazing, the spaghetti, penne, veal, tiramisu, and coffees were absolutely delicious. Will for sure come back here! Thank you Mama Mia for this amazing experience :).

The host Leo is just lovely! From the moment I stepped into this restaurant, it felt as though I was in the front room of their vintage, rustic ,cosy house. Their hospitality, huge smiles and warm welcome just make you feel so comfortable.The food served is authentic Italian food with immense flavour, and the staff genuinely love what they do. This authentic Italian food is often hard to find out side of Italy , and this genuine type of service is almost impossible to find in London. Some evenings they have live entertainment available - book early

Restaurante italiano "vintage y anticuado" tocar música de los años 70 "tom Jones!!" Pensé que estaba en el tiempo! !vegetales demasiado cocidos y empapados: sí, brócoli bien hervido. ; saltear papas parece ser un lote preparado, no es un buen ejemplo de la cocina italiana de mamá. No es uno para recomendar.

This is an exceptional restaurant and one that it well worth going to for a special occasion. The food is authentic and is right in the heart of East Sheen. If you are in West London this restaurant can't go amiss!

It was OK. Friendly staff and good service. Food and drink were mixed bag. Aperol Spritz was prosecco with some Aperol added in a champagne flute, it was not cold and no ice. Prawn egg noodles were OK, prawns not cooked well and pasta lacked seafood flavour. Disappointing, won't have pasta or cocktails if I ever go back.

La comida aquí es siempre deliciosa y recién hecha. Comida italiana sencilla pero muy auténtica. Visitamos aquí 3 veces al año con mis padres y el menú nunca varía. Sin embargo siempre es delicioso. El servicio es bueno pero lento, no vengas aquí si tienes prisa.

I have eaten here many times over the years, and thankfully more frequently now that we have moved closer to this area. We ate at Mamma Mia most recently last Saturday (with my wife) and it was so nice I returned on Tuesday (with a friend).The food is classic Italian, made with good ingredients and cooked well. It is everything you could want in an Italian restaurant. The special mushrooms (literally, just wild mushrooms cooked in butter and garlic, nothing else) are my favourite and the crab ravioli (again a regular special) is perfect.I notice a very bitter 1* review immediately prior to mine and I can only say beware of reviews like this. It is a classic angry customer review and doesn't reflect any of the experiences I have had when eating at this restaurant. The reviewer has joined Tripadvisor in 2019 only to write this review, written one review and cynically chosen a handle "The Gourmet" in a hopeless attempt to convey some level of culinary expertise which I would suggest is far from the truth. My advise is to ignore this review, it is everything that is bad about Tripadvisor from someone who contributes nothing to the community apart from a self serving review to release some frustration. The pace of service is slower than Pizza Express, this is true. But that is part of the charm and you have a chance to relax and enjoy your food, wine and the whole evening. It isn't a place to get a quick bite and be gone in 30 minutes. The pasta we have has has always been on the generous side.

Ordered Spaghetti Bolognese, the meat was more like a light meat topping! Spoke to the older woman, she said more meat was extra!! I just wanted normal spag bol. Doubly poor as advertise as an Italian restaurant.

Un restaurante genial, y local! Mi esposa y yo nos mudamos a la zona hace un par de años y habíamos mencionado que íbamos aquí varias veces y eventualmente nos pusimos manos a la obra. Me llevó a mi infancia y al excelente restaurante que visitábamos con frecuencia con mis padres. El menú es tradicional italiano y bien de precio. La lista de vinos es genial con algunas opciones realmente fantásticas. El propietario es muy agradable y servicial con grandes recomendaciones. Volvimos con nuestros hijos y pasamos un tiempo igualmente encantador. Volveremos muy pronto!

Went to this restaurant last night and possibly the worst experience ever. The owner was not friendly from the outset. We waited 40 minutes for the menus and from the time we entered to meals being served it took 90 minutes. I had the breaded veal but with one potatoe cut into cubes and sauted plus six green beans my bill was £28.00 My wife had lasagne which was just a small plate of pasta and no meat £11.00 dreadful. My son whose birthday it was got a spag bol he couldn't eat it as so bad. The bill was £78.00 and trying to pay by card the owner kept voiding the transaction until I told him I'll key in the pin.. at one stage he tried going away from our table with our card and had to tell him not to. Our coats were hanging up at the back and when my son went to retrieve them he had put a knife from a drawer underneath with the blade showing !! So that our coats would be torn. Please people of Sheen Richmond don't use this Restaurant it was awful in every way imaginable.

For a birthday dinner we booked a table. We love the Italian food . We love the atmosphere. We choose Fish and chicken for main course, pasta and salads And nice deserts if we can still have some space.

I so rarely get to take my elderly father out for dinner and he wanted to explore Sheen. The man (owner?) in Mamma Mia seemed grumpy and annoyed at our presence. This was upsetting as I'd wanted the occasion to be happy. It was ok in the end but only because we made it so. Confusingly there were two menus. The menu we were given was not the one we'd seen in the window. The man tried to explain this and said if we wanted the window menu we'd have to order quickly. The waitress was lovely and the food was ok but not five-star. Such a shame - perhaps he was having a bad day. Thank goodness my dad was oblivious.

Este es un lugar CLÁSICO. Leo, su hermana Rosa y su hermano menor Joe: se enorgullecen de cada porción de comida servida. La cocina de Rosa es encantadora, simple y fresca, especialmente la lasaña. Siendo italiano, puedo decir honestamente que este lugar lo llevará de vuelta a un momento en que se valoró el servicio y la excelencia. Have been coming here with family and friends for a number of years to celebrate different occasion and never once have we been disappointed. Great food, extensive wine list and wonderful Italian atmosphere. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending it.

Great family run Italian restaurant and wine bar. Lovely food and great slightly retro feel. Small well chosen menu. Everything on the menu is beautifully prepared and delicious. One of our favourite places to dine. In the summer it's nice to sit in the 'garden" which is a pretty bower, lit by fairy lights, under a grape vine. It can be quite magical. Leo and his staff are friendly and welcoming. Usually easy to park. Highly recommend.

Great food and lovely setting, it makes you feel like you are in Italy 🇮🇹! The only thing I would say is that the servers is slow! However, I would definitely recommend this to everyone.

Worst pasta I've ever had. No taste, no authenticity. Definitely do not recommend anyone to go. It's a waste of money. Disgrace to traditional Italian tradition.

No estoy seguro de qué restaurante han visitado algunos de los críticos aquí, pero Mamma Mia y Leonardo contiguo nunca deja de ofrecer. Si desea un restaurante italiano familiar tradicional con auténtica comida casera, este es el lugar ideal. Vinimos como un gran grupo para el menú de 1977 que celebra su reciente 40 aniversario. La comida (¡a precios de 1977!) Fue excelente, como siempre, y estuvimos encantados de ayudar a celebrar este aniversario especial. One of my favourite places in the Richmond/East Sheen area. The food is simple and tasty and the owners are lovely. Mamma Mia is for those weekend afternoons or weekday evenings where you don't have to rush off somewhere immediately after. A throwback to a time when meals weren't a huge rush and where we had less instant and more pleasant in our lives.

Really disappointing, no menu available, very long time to get the order, food quality bellow expectation. I do not recommend and I will never be back again.

¡Si quieres que tu billetera sea vaciada por estos estafadores mercaderes, entonces lo recomiendo encarecidamente! Deficiente servicio, no apto para sillas de ruedas, solo le interesa cuando elige el menú de vinos, cuando alguien dice que no tienen gluten ignoran, no hay precios en su sitio web, cuestionan la factura solo para ser reemplazada por una más cara, esperaban más una hora para empezar, extras lanzados en su plato que no ha pedido pero cobrado, ¡evite!

Así, sincero. Soy un habitual en este restaurante. Se capturaron mi corazón cuando tuve mi primera comida y me alegré de que no era común una pasta pizza pero una familia auténtica restaurante familiar italiano. El servicio es relajado, así que no vayas en restaurantes de comida rápida como este no es el punto. La comida es fabulosa y a un precio razonable. Elija el, gambas, setas o el cangrejo raviolis (delicioso) como entrante. Luego de más de un principal, aunque me encanta el hígado de pollo o el bebé.

Had meals at Mamma Mia many times and was never disappointed! Really great food and wine! Leo and Rosa are fantastic hosts and my kids love going there!
