Tasty food, presented well across the table. I felt mine was under seasoned but that is splitting hairs and also personal preference. However the decor is luxurious and lovely. The staff were fantastic, well dressed, charming and attentive. Glad there were vegan and gluten free options available, although not advertised (much to the delight of my accompanying party). Cocktails and wine selection were divine. TLDR All in all deffo worth a visit, good across the board 👌

Went for lunch we ordered two main course and the pasta we got was terrible bland and all I could taste was pure garlic my sisters pasta sauce just tasted burnt and left an awful taste in your mouth not what you expect when your paying £62 for two adults and 1 kids meal. Staff are lovely and welcoming but the food has definitely went down hill since I last visited used to be my favourite restaurant

Everytime we come here the staff are amazing. Whether its a table for 2 on Friday night, or the whole family for Sunday dinner, the guys at Mambos can't do enough for you. The food is amazing and everything id fresh. The cocktail list is also extensive. Best restauraunt in South Shields by far. Well done guys.

Very unexpected surprize 79th birthday celebration for me. First time I have been to *MAMBOS*, it wont be my last ! * BRILLIANT* staff, sumptious and delicious menu, decor unbelievable, atomsphere and surroundings can't be beaten. WOULD THOROUGHLY RECOMMEND MAMBOS 100%.

Haven’t been here in a few years. Was here Sunday afternoon. Place was jumping. Great service from the staff. Starters & mains were excellent. Sunday dinner was one of the best. Wasn’t too expensive either. Will return very soon.

Christening lunch for about 40 today, was superb! Excellent faultless service. The varied meals from Italian to British Sunday lunches with perfectly cooked fresh vegetables, were exceptional! We highly recommend this beautifully decorated restaurant with easy parking.

What can I say.....amazing day all round for a baby shower. Staff were amazing, so accommodating and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious. I would definitely go again and certainly recommend it. Thank you x

Amazing experience and top quality food along with staff that went above and beyond to accommodate us while there I only wish we took more photos but inhaled our starters in record time, just managed to get a photo of the steak before I cleaned the plate. Me and my partner had a brilliant experience here and will most certainly be back for more meals here with it being such great value and quality

Food was lovely, had the pork from the Sunday lunch menu, plenty of meat and veg and a gigantic Yorkshire pudding which was a great addition to the Sunday lunch! Booked a table of 10 for Sunday lunch. The place was busy by 1300 on Sunday., which created a good atmosphere. Service was great. Food served timely and was really well cooked. I recommend the sticky toffee pud!

Went here today for my son's birthday and had a fab time. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating especially since there were twelve of us. The decor of the place is very nice, was thinking a bit posh for sunny South Shields but got to give it to them it doesn't come across as snobby. The food was delicious and the portions were perfect size. I had Cannelloni to start which was exactly what I wanted and how I expected it too be. For my main I got the nduja and honey pizza which flavour wise was epic times. What I will say though there was a lot of space and cheese on top creating a very heavy pizza that had an adverse effect on the base almost making it soggy. Still delicious though. In fact I am eating the remnants as I write this and rather enjoying it. Very clean toilets too so that's a winner winner chicken dinner. Would recommend a visit especially with the set menu being only 17.90 with some great choice on there.

Visited Monday 06/05/2024 around 5pm. Had some beautiful starters - black pudding and the spicy sausage, and the steaks for mains were very tasty and succulent. Slight drawback was we were seated next to the reception desk where the phone rings now and then.

Don't judge a book by its cover. When you get inside, you will be impressed. The staff are great and so is the food.

We came on a Friday evening as a large family group. The service was good and the food lovely. Quicker to get your own drinks from the bar but I'd very happily go back.

12 of us had Sunday lunch on Easter Sunday, despite the restaurant being extremely busy the service was amazing, food arrived piping hot, huge portions and extremely delicious 😋 And they even made time to sing happy birthday to our dad/ grandad who is about to turn 84 . Thank you all, we can’t wait to return

The good bits: Very generous portions and very yummy. I’m 52 years old and I couldn’t finish a soup + child’s portion of the Sunday roast pork dinner. Meat was moist and tasty and the gravy was spot on. Even got a generous portion of apple sauce and steamed veges. Staff was polite and helpful. Suggestion for improvement: When one / some diners in a group order starter / soup and the others opt to go straight for the main course, it would help to ask if those who order only main course would like their main course to be served right away, instead of them waiting for those who order starters to finish. Otherwise they are kept waiting until those who order starters / soup finish. Perhaps it’s an English restaurant custom but I prefer the North American approach where diners have a the option to get their main course right away. It was a bit embarrassing to realize halfway through my soup that my co-diners weren’t eating because they were waiting for me to finish my soup. :) Anyway.. excellent spot.

Came in for a meal, asked if any tables and was assured there was, told to sit in high bar chairs while using a crutch and ankle brace! Obviously unable to sit. Eventually sat at a table, sat for 30 minutes, no drinks order no nothing! Decided to leave as atmosphere wasn't the best, menu had no prices on and 30 minutes without taking any order is rubbish!

Great place, it was very loud but that is probably due to it being during the Christmas season so it was very busy with lots of kids and a singer who sand Christmas songs

Went for New Year’s Eve meal, when we arrived they only had the Sunday lunch menu on, the waiter consulted with the kitchen staff and they allowed us to order from the other menu, which I though was going above and beyond for customers. I’ve been here quite a few times and haven’t had a bad meal yet, service is outstanding and the food is the same. Worth every penny, best Italians in the area. Hands down.

I have visited many times for Sunday lunch and have never had any issues. Food and service has always been above standard however, we came as a family for Christmas lunch and I'm sorry to say was a little disappointed. Although the quality of the food and service was as good as ever I felt that at £95 per head one slice of meat was inadequate. There was no cranberry or apple sauce offered and an after dinner mint and coffee may have been welcomed. That said it won't keep me from enjoying a wholesome Sunday roast.

Fantastic Christmas day meal and service

I came to this restaurant to have a family meal and it was wonderful! We are returning customers and every time end up enjoying the friendly service and delicious authentic Italian cuisine. We have had the same server twice in a row , i believe his name is Pavel and he is very charismatic and funny. Me and my family are very grateful and will absolutely be returning once again !

Felt compelled to write this after seeing some negative reviews. We visited 3pm on Christmas eve. The place was packed but the service and food were fantastic. We were seated quickly then given menus and took drinks orders. The food was really good quality and staff very attentive. Overall a great experience and will definitely return

I visited this restaurant today as part of a group seasonal gathering. The welcome was good , the menu was good but the food was better . It is really nice to go to a restaurant that takes the service seriously and doesn’t just take for granted people won’t care too much about the food at a seasonal get together . Very disappointed. My family and I visited Mambos for Sunday lunch and I found a shard of glass in my meal. Whilst the dinner was replaced the manager still expected us to pay for the dish.

The food at Mambos is nice, but not always as described. I had a veggie pasta dish with tenderstem broccoli when I was there a couple of months ago. It came with broccoli. Tenderstem is so much nicer and in a veggie meal a significant difference. I mentioned this at the time and got the standard response of "I'll let the chef know". I was there again last week and I again ordered a meal with tenderstem broccoli. It again was normal broccoli. (It was a fish dish this time, so the broccoli wasn't such a key part.) What was ridiculous is that it was cut so that it looked similar in shape, still not tenderstem, you're fooling noone. :-). Just change the menu to broccoli then there is no problem. The food is tasty, but serve it how it is described in the menu, especially when the whole meal is based around that ingredient as with you veggie pasta dish.

We came here to shelter from the storm and get some much needed energy into two Great North Runners. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic.

We are regulars as we only live down the road, and never had a bad experience till now,, last Sunday 3rd September, we went here for my 50th birthday with family and friends, table was booked for 8pm, when we got there the restaurant was empty, which wasn't a problem, but the menu was limited and with us being the only ones there, I thought the service could of been a lot better, staff were sitting around, the waitress who was serving us, was lovely, but we felt rushed as if they were wanting us to finish and leave so they couldn't go home. To be fair, I felt embarrassed as my friends had travelled from Sunderland to be here to celebrate with me. Like I said, I've never had a bad experience here before, but I'll think twice before booking a late night meal here again.

There for lunch today for 2 family birthdays 6 adults n 4 children....3 under 3 no mean task! Staff were great very polite and helped us greatly, food was fab but very quiet fot a saturday lunchtime definayely recommend the paillard, chicken with garlic and mozzerella..😋😋😋!

We have visited this restaurant many times and the food is always outstanding. However, the new menu change is disappointing, not only has it increased in price, there is now a surcharge for steak and the chicken skewer has been removed! The steak was mainly grissle. No more lovely fresh bread, I asked for tomato sauce and mayonnaise for the children’s meal ( burger/chips) the waiter said it was £1.50 each, I laughed because I thought he was joking. He returned with the menu to prove, yes he would be charging us for condiments. Such a shame but it always leaves a bitter taste in your mouth when you feel ripped off. Our Mambo days over over, what a shame!

Outstanding. Everything about our visit was Top Notch. My wife and I attended for our Wedding Anniversary. Service and attention was 100%. Our food was second to none. I had the mussels starter and Lamb Tagine both fantastic. The wife had the Cannellini starter and Steak (Sirloin). Again fantastic. I cannot speak highly enough about our visit.

Menu has changed slightly, but once again, food was outstanding. All party went for desserts, the honeycomb cake was georgous, everyone was happy with theirs. Staff were again very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend Mambo's Wine and Dine.

As a choice of our granddaughter for her 13th birthday she chose Mambos for the family to meet and have the early menu tea. The range of the group was from 1 yr to 60 plus (the older of the group remembered the venue when it was a huge working men’s club, the decor was a lot different now than then)! It looks like a Greek dominated decor, smart without being tacky. Staff were excellent throughout. Food was very nice even though a couple of the group found it limited. Lots of empty places and it was starting to fill up a lot as we left, which shows how popular it is.

We have been a few tines and really enjoy our visits. visited with my husband and parents. menu changes/new menu. not clear at all! terrible in fact. el classico starter is actually potato skins? pardon? they have taken the roasted peaches off the menu which was my favourite. asked waiter his response was oh yes many people have asked about this being removed will feedback to the chef. why on earth remove one of the most popular dishes? they used to gice the table a basiet of hone baked bread and butter. not anymore I'm afraid!! chose the goats cheese starter with red chutney. what actually arrived was not chutney but chunks of part stir fried red onion. 3 bits of beetroot from a jar. left most of it as i hate onions cooked like that. told waiter and he agreed not chutney. my mam has mouth cancer and cant eat many things but we saw on the children's menu micro rigatoni spag bol. great we think she can eat that. what actually arrived was a slightly smaller sized portion of soag bol not micro rigatoni. my mam could not eat it so picked at the bolognese. i told 3 waiters. all said it means small portion. i said to all 3 no micto or mini rigatoni is super small rigatoni. Google it if you dont believe me and if it means small portion why is it just the 2 pasta dishes on the kids menu have micro in the description the other 2 dishes dont? one waiter said i dont know i didnt wrote the menu? what the actual is that attitude for? its obe of tge eaiters wgi gas eorked tgere years too. ge sgould know better. its hard for folks who can eat properly to eat out without menu errors. god help you if you have allergies! i said im not paying for it. your menu is wrong. no offer of a free ice cream for her as an apology? bill cones with it still on. asked for it to be taken back and it taken off. the dark haired female server is awful. no smiles. very curt and rude. you need to take her off service. she is not right for the job. your staff need customer service training. i would not mind if busy but there were only 6 other tables in. i always get lamb tagine.not cheap at £21. not one dried apricot in it as stated in menuand no Moroccan spces. was just lamb stew. rubbish. we will nit return to this restaurant. the cost of living crisis means its hard to eat out now without getting this experience when you do. will eat in wyvestows where the menu is clear and they actually care about their customers. very very po

Awesome food great prices, fantastic service

Celebrating our Grandaughters 12th Birthday, the staff were amazing so attentive towards her, full of smiles & leg pulling they really made her night. The food was absolutely first class, thanks to the hard working kitchen staff & chefs. If you want a pleasant evening & good food you cannot go wrong going to Mambos.

Well after experiencing a very enjoyable meal a month or so ago we thought we would drive the 40 miles again from where we live for another lovely meal well I've got to say as a couple who have eaten all over the North East in many varied ranges from good pubs to top Michelin star restaurants I'd say I witnessed something that I've never had before food was decent well the description of ribeye steak with tiger prawns King prawns SCALLOPS in a white wind and dill sauce was appealing not to say the least not cheap but sounded like a must to me but when it came I couldn't see any king prawns or scallops so I pointed the issue out to the waiter who Said that's the scallop on your steak well it looked more like a single shrivelled penny pce size mushroom over cooked you could tell just looking at it so I went OK and trying to not cause a fuss or stir reluctantly tried the tiny pce see if any good it was literally like it been baked for 20 mins in oven I actually thought it was chicken so I said to the waiter I eat scallops q regularly and that is a poor attempt at a dish that said scallops could I have a proper sized one that's full sized tender and eatable he went away and his answer was you'll have to pay for 1 me and my partner were dumbfounded the pure arrogance and terrible customer service knocked us both sick so we just left as soon as we ate up and quickly if you pay 20 pounds for 2 meals in a pub that's not great which has happened before you can put it down to experience but when it's 65 pounds and you get a disgraceful attitude to the problem like that I have to say we won't be visiting this place ant more you could have the best food in the world but to have the arrogant unhelpful attitude we received here last night I'd rather eat somewhere where the restaurant has you at heart as the customer and not their pig headed reputation at stake

Have just got home after experiencing this restaurant. We had the sharing fusion meze for starter it was magnificent and we barely had half as we needed to save room for the main. I had the tomahawk steak for main and my wife had the lasagne, both of us said could not get over how good the dishes were it was honestly the nicest steak in my life it litera,lly melted in your mouth. That was just the food the venue is awe inspiring it must of cost near 7 figures to complete. The staff were amazing they could not do more they were even doing magic so my daughter would finish her food. Could not be anymore happy with the overall experience we both left with smiles on all of our faces we will be back very soon.

This restaurant is fantastic. The decoration of the place, the staff, the menu, the food and the general atmosphere of the place is absolutely fantastic. I had the cheesy garlic bread as a sharer for the table, surf and turf main meal and a sticky toffee pudding desert and it was absolutely stunning. I will be returning as a regular to this place to try out the menu, it is a must try for anyone willing to travel here or lives local. I've been fortunate to work all over England, the rest of Europe, north america and East Africa and this is without a doubt in my top 5 if not possibly top 3 places I've eaten at. Unbelievable for south shields to have this establishment. Sorry I've not got any photos to give this place better praise as I didn't have my phone with me.

2nd visit,but this time was a little disappointing. The tomato base used for the pizzas was overpowering and dominated the taste of the entire pizza. All member of the party had the same view too.

A group of us were in the private dining room. The meal choice was good and service and food was excellent. We will return

I have been to Mambo's on several occasions and consistently, the food is amazing, love the cocktails and the staff are lovely every night. It is the best fine dining experience South Shields has to offer at the moment! Love the cocktails especially!

Food is good but very rushed. We'd booked Sunday dinner for 12 o'clock and had eaten and were out again by 12.30! Won't go back again on a hurry because of that.

Tried this place for Sunday lunch booking was made easy on the phone I was pleasantly. surprised once inside. place was quite busy staff were friendly I ordered the traditional trio of meats with seasonal vegetables for (£14.95) which was advertised as aged reared strip loin slow roasted beef. What I received was sliced processed beef which tasted awful which I left. Wyvestows and Bar Blue were fully booked so I give Mambos a try for a change how sorry I was.

A beautiful restaurant in the centre of South Shields, serving a wide variety of food. We booked up on a bank holiday weekend for a date night and the venue was packed. It’s very brightly lit and open plan so not a place for a quiet candle lit dinning experience, but it is a lovely dining experience to take the family or have a party.. The staff were friendly and made time even though they were running all over the place, yet still attentive. We ordered two cocktails while we perused the menu and they were very tasty. The house wine - a Sicilian medium bodied red was a nice fruity red, which I enjoyed . We had two delicious starters before my wife had a migraine and we had to leave. The staff were great at this cutting short of our date, offering to box our mains if they had been started but the kitchen hadn’t so we simply paid our bill and left but we will be coming back in the future. Thank you Mambo’s.

This was a celebratory meal for my youngest daughter's graduation from university. The menu already checked on-line looked promising. I like sea food particularly so the Langoustines Tigre was a good choice of starter, and tasty too. Monkfish is a favourite of mine. The menu described the dish as "Scottish Monkfish sautéed in a creamy saffron citrus dressing topped with deep fried seaweed" Normally Monkfish tail is used, distinctive, meaty and well formed. I was perplexed to be presented with a plate with bread crumbed white fish. It wasn't tartan clad so I couldn't be sure of it's provenance, and it didn't look like any monkfish that I have tasted in my nearly 65yrs on this planet. The "deep fried seaweed" disguised as "pea shoots was tasty, but clearly not sea weed. The "monkfish" can be sourced locally as can dulce, but just not tonight. "Wilted greens with sesame seeds" comprised frozen broccoli crown, peas and green beans; okay, stretching it a bit but not a sesame seed in sight. Apparently the rest of my family enjoyed their meal, which is good news. I'd love to know who supplies the "bread crumbed" Monkfish.

Food was very good, driver friendly and polite.When we unpacked the dishes I found one of the mains was short of a pitta bread and the relevant sauces that were advertised. Emailed and called the restaurant to be told that some people didn’t want these items so we put them down as extras to order if you did. Fair enough but the dish still advertises them as being part of the meal that we ordered.Silence on the telephone then a polite sorry. Phone is out down on me. Poor customer service and will not use again.

What a fantastic meal ,well worth the journey everything was cooked and presented excellently.being able to see the passe was an added reassurance ,often front of house differs greatly from the kitchen cleanliness on so many levels.we ordered seafood because of this very reason.it was cooked to perfection scallops , calamari,prawns ,and tuna ,emulsions were beautiful.staff attentive and cocktails and sirloin perfect .thankyou so much ,restaurants since lockdown have asked ridiculous money for burgers platters etc ,mambos go to prove by the volume of trade quality outshines ,the competition out there we will be back worth 60mile trip and night in hotel .(also excellent)pay more get more .thankyou to all concerned
