Small but with a good alternative soundtrack, hadn't heard some of the bands in years. Nice selection of beverages. Couldn't provide any details on the food as we didn't have any. Toilets are upstairs.

Undeniably the best pub in Monton, probably Eccles too. Decent craft beer, lovely people and incredible open mics, couldn't go anywhere else!

One of mine and my girlfriends favourite places. Mortimers cider 👍🤘🤘 Really chilled atmosphere for watching the world go by. Quality tunes as well as a bonus 👍

MaltDog is an intimate venue offering a great selection of beer which changes frequently. Every time you visit there is an opportunity to experience a new flavour and the selection is always tasteful. Service is always lovely and welcoming. I particularly enjoy the music selection: playlists of Alternative Rock and Metal which could be from my own Spotify playlist. With an upstairs area offering more tables and sofas I have never had a problem finding a seat even on a busy night. Best bar in Monton! We love you Malt Doggy Dog! 🐕

Great little place. Dog friendly, great pint!!! They even let you get a pizza from next door and eat in the bar!!!

This bar is amazing, from the selection of alcohol to the staff's amazing service. I was out on a stag do and the staff took care of the entire party despite any mess or noise. They were just amazing.

We love the selection of lager here. It's informal. You can bring dogs so it's nice for a pint after a walk. Always busy on the weekend but friendly.

A busy Saturday but plenty of seats outside - even in October ! The Verdant IPA was particularly good tonight !

Nice little bar with a good selection of beers and spirits

Recently had a leaving do here and it was brilliant. Dan was really responsive to my initial enquiry and all my questions in the lead up to the event. We used the space upstairs and it was a great for around 15-20 people. I preordered some welcome drinks and they were all laid out waiting for us as requested. When I arrived, the staff member at the bar was expecting me and gave us a really warm welcome. They were really helpful throughout and we were allowed to bring our own decorations. Would definitely recommend, finding somewhere local was really important to me and Malt Dog didn’t let us down!

The malt dog, is one of the best if not the best beer caves in monton, it has a brilliant open mic night run by the self proclaimed “papa flamingo” who dazzles and entertains like no other once a month, and that Dolan fellas not to bad either on the alternate one, the bar is staffed by “swoosh girl” recognisable by her camel like eyelashes and is nothing but a delight and makes the experience of drinking exotic beers just that more delectable, it’s eclectic music which I can only describe as analog jellyfish metal makes it a experience one can’t miss out on when venturing to the area! 10/10 would recommend!🙌🏻

Love this place has so many great ales beers and ciders of choice from so many different countries has such a laid back cool vibe and the bar service is fantastic very friendly and attentive.. its also great for dog walkers who want to grab a crafty pint

My favourite place to go for a drink in Monton. Really good selection of beer including from local breweries, and available in 2/3rds. I only tend to drink beer here but they also have wine, fizz and a good range of whisky and gin and I love an aperol here in the summer! Dan is doing an awesome job, always makes you feel so welcome even if you’ve never been in before you will feel like you’ve been going for years. The staff are great friendly and willing to chat about the beer and recommend if you’re not sure what to have. Open mic every fortnight is ace and we’ve been to a gin tasting event which was great fun. Sometimes downstairs gets busy but there’s plenty more space upstairs and a small outdoor seating area in front. Dog friendly too!

Well kept ales (cask and keg, but all craft) loved the Shindigger last week. The bar is in a cosy, comfortable environment, and has many local clientele. The bar also has a decent wine list and a good selection of malt whiskies too. The Owners and their team always make you feel welcome and valued.

We went for our engagement party with a small group of about 20 people and the owners were more than accommodating and the atmosphere was great not a single complaint everything was amazing couldn't recommend anywhere better

Cool place. Loved the upstairs section with games and chilled vibes. Nice decor, great music, friendly people and good range of beer. It was really rammed on a Saturday night and would’ve liked a bit more ventilation but really loved it and will return.

... so very busy as the quintet did take over around a quarter of the bar so sitting outside was the only option. Luckily, it was a lovely evening.

This is a local that makes everyone feel welcome (and I am someone who gets anxious trying new places sometimes). They offer a really great selection, and not just the beers but also spirits and non-alcoholic options (haven't sampled any wine there, sorry), and the staff are always knowledgeable and really friendly. Have been in multiple times and always impressed. Dog friendly too. Highly recommend.

Having frequented every bar in Monton I have to say that this is not only my favourite but in my opinion the best. Since Dan the new owner has taken over he has spent a lot of time making the refurbishment a lovely place to be. The selection of beers is fantastic and Dan is always introducing new ones to keep any beer fan interested.

Just for clarity my son (Dan)has taken over Malt Dog from The original owner. He has taken time during lockdown to refurbish the whole place giving it a contemporary retro but importantly relaxing atmosphere. Well behaved Dogs are more than welcome As soon as covid restrictions are lifted its his intention to start the live music events again along with many other activities including Whisky, Gin, Wine and of course Craft beer tastings. The bar is frequented by really friendly local people Dan has a wealth of knowledge in the hospitality business running the officers mess whilst in the army managing craft beer pubs in Australia for several years to being a cocktail mixologist in alchemist He definitely knows how to look after beers and will be sourcing new breweries to guest different beers in the future. Of course I’m biased but we wish him all the best and please go along and have a drink and a chat

My partner and I love this place! He’s a serious beer drinker and enjoys the wide selection on offer. We’ve been a few times now, travelling to Monton from the other side of Manchester because the atmosphere is great. It’s such a friendly spot and we always have a good laugh with the staff and customers. Looking forward forward to our next night out in Maltdog and would highly recommend. Cheers guys.

Tempted and teased when I saw the Paulaner tag on one is the taps bit unfortunately not the wheat beer. However the Weinstephaner was a decent alternative. Good craft ale selection

Popped in a couple of nights ago, not many people in but it looked a nice place

We called in here before and after a meal out in Monton... Malt Dog is a great bar located on Monton's main High Street... The bar looks small from the outside but has an upstairs area as well... plenty of seats downstairs and upstairs - upstairs even has a couple of settees... Staff are friendly & welcoming... decor interesting and wood themed, with even a mural of the band 'The Smiths' upstairs... children & dogs are welcomed... There is a great drinks range with beers/largers/etc from around the world, plus three handpumps for cask ales... We enjoyed sitting in the window watching the world go by before going for a meal, then sitting upstairs on the comfy settees when we returned... well worth a visit!

Excellent range of beers for outside Manchester. Got served once the barman had finished telling his story. The beers we had were good but the markup on half pints was very wrong, and there is no economic reason for this). We like to taste several beers but the minimum mark up tonight was 20p (annoying but acceptable) to 70p (ridiculous).

Fab little pub . Really cool place stairs bit steep n only one lady n men toilet. But omg the beers ect they sell are Brill. Loved it here will be bringing my uncle from Dublin here. I kno he will love it.

Malt dog is a decent addition to the monton high street. There is some smashing beers on sale here at good prices. The staff are welcoming and friendly, the only down point is the cliquey atmosphere but I’m being picky. Nice terrace out front even if you do have to observe the balloons drinking over the road at The Park. Recommended

Will not be visiting this place again. Staff threatened to chuck us out for being slightly loud just after buying 6 full drinks. Aren’t bars supposed to be loud? Rather than respectfully asking us to quiet down which we would off. They were rude and made us feel disgracefully un welcome. Do not visit if you plan on chatting between friends as it seems silence is all that is allowe.

Good town centre bar with plenty of seating upstairs level too

Quite a good atmosphere but drinks are expensive. A lime and soda cost 2 pounds .That is a massive markup. Owner/ manager of the bar wasn't very friendly unless she already knew you and then you'd be ingratiated with her sitting in your company. Would like to go back but reluctant to now as the owners demeanor has slightly put me off.

Was a bit quet but that what was needed. Nice cherry beer and others.

this place is just dirty..the toilet walls behind the loos are covered in mould as is the bathroom window.. my hubby said the beer tasted like the lines haven't been cleaned..very grubby run by bits of kids..it has gone right downhill over the last year

Good little bar, slightly expensive but not excessive

Its a shame the owner of this bar takes scrimping on the costs to new extremes. Too many examples to list, but please get real - our cosy homes are infinitely better than your frosty pub. Don't scrimp on putting a log on the fire because I'm loathed to pay £5 a pint to shiver when I drink it. Love the regulars and the staff are great - it's how the business is run, and it barely deserves the regulars it's got.

The toilets are absolutely disgusting. I had to get my own toilet paper from the cupboard and there wasn't any towels to dry your hands on

It’s a shame this bar is ran so poorly by the owner, it has the potential to be great. The atmosphere is terrible. There’s nicer places to visit and spend money than feeling as though you’re intruding on someone’s property by paying for their drinks

Good atmosphere to sit and drink

Cozy but buzzing with life this place has a fantastic range of craft brews to suit most tastes.

My husband was well impressed by the selction of ales but when he asked questions the staff seemed to have little knowledge of what they were selling. Tried to make conversation but they weren't interested. Nice little bar but marked down for the service.

Always good with lots of lovely beer and a good vibe. Set the trend originally to what Monton is today.
