Maki & Bowl in Richmond upon Thames

I ordered this every other Friday at work and it was great every single time - would high recommend!

The food did not seem fresh, the chicken was dry and the brown rice was hard. Not the best Maki & Bowl.

We had a very delicious lunch here; easy to order and quick to prepare. All the ingredients felt very fresh and tasted delicious which is sometimes difficult to achieve when salad is pre-chopped for speed. We had the Salmon Poké Bowl, Inari Poké Bowl and then shared some furikake fries and a katsu pumpkin bao bun. All the food was really yummy but could do with the fries being tossed in the seasoning a little bit more evenly.

Delicious food which is EXACTLY the same each time it's delivered. Large portions and hot food is delivered piping hot too. Just WONDERFUL! THANK YOU XX

Had a shushi burrito and it did not disappoint- very fresh and tasty, will be back again!

Having driven passed so many time, we were not disappointed to actually visit, the food is very fresh, reasonably priced and you can build your own combinations, it’s a good portion, loved the packaging also good quality and tasted great, we really enjoyed. Great location, next to Richmond bridge.

Had a delicious sushi burrito here. a bit pricey for what it is but that seems to be the case with everything these days. There was one staff member who wasn’t overly friendly, no communication at all as you order for yourself on an iPad, so that didn’t really bother me. Would return for takeout/ delivery.

First time trying Maki and was very impressed! The bowl was huge and made me feel absolutely full. The bowl are served with plenty of veg. Their cutleries and bowls are decompostable. Definately will be back

Very fast and tasty bowls! Soup was great. I was surprised how fast we got served and how good it tasted. Sad thing is that there is no real "Sit-In dishes", everything was served in fast foog throw away bowls. Room for improvement, but tasty it is nonethenless!

Not bad. But system doesn’t make sense. You order something pay for it. And then They tell you they don’t have it????? I don’t blame restaurants for not having enough staff(THERE AREN’T ANY AROUND) but the system needs updating and it’s slightly too expensive. Also would be helpful when on tablet and you press print receipt it actually printed a receipt.

The ordering system when you visit is a definite bottleneck. Ordering takes ages and a queue quickly forms when there is only one kiosk. Also is confusing we ordered double one item somehow However the food is great and well put together, it came out promptly so I would recommend, but maybe order in advance? The place is clean and tidy and has enough seating for a few groups

I enjoyed having a quick meal in the half hour before setting off to Richmond Odean, close by. You get to sort out your meal on a touchscreen, with lots of optional extras to choose from, and then just wait for a nice sizeable bowl of tasty food. Much healthier than scoffing food at the Odean when watching the film!

The food was horrible. The tuna burrito was too spicy for my taste. All the food was too strong to handle. But I am writing as an Asian, so maybe British people might be OK with the food. All in all, it really isn’t the typical Japanese restaurant I was hoping for.

Horrible experience, food tasted like it was kept in the fridge the night before, service was slow and bad, was looked down on, I gave them the benefit of the doubt because I was hungry and on my lunch break, but never again. Will never give them my hard earned money again. If I could give 0 stars I would, not even worth 1 star.

This is a quite good Japanese inspired takeaway that offers a variety of dishes. I come here for the Poke although I have also tried the vegetable gyoza and the furikake fries. It feels a little bit more of a fast food outlet than other places I've been to in that there does seem to be a slight lack of love in the preparation of the dishes. The rice today was overcooked and stodgy. Right now you are only able to order takeaway by going in store and ordering on the iPad inside. This means you are unable to see your bowl being put together which can result in some out of proportion ingredients. For example today I had far too many jalapenos. In addition to this the price is comparatively high. £4.50 for 6/7 gyoza is a little too high to entice me to try them again. And around £8 - £10 for the Poke bowls is a little too much for me. That said if you live in the area and are craving poke this isn't a bad option at all. They also offer poke rolls, and bao buns along with a few other items that I have yet to sample. Not bad.

Love eating at maki and bowl. Great selection of choice. When the sun comes out, there isn’t a better feeling in London than sitting next to the river with a poke bowl.

Staying at the holiday inn nearby for work I had ordered out every evening as hotel food was pretty rubbish. Fancied something different so ordered chicken katsu poke bowl. Was amazing. Really tasty and very generous portion. Would definitely return if in the area again. Was delivered in less than 30 mins and hot.

Delicious poke bowl but fairly expensive. I ordered katsu breaded pumpkin poke bowl with brown rice which cost £10.80. It was tasty, fresh and a very good portion size. The only gripe I had was the cost. It was £1.50 for brown rice which seemed steep. Overall, it was delicious but expensive and therefore would only have it as an occasional treat.

We got a takeaway from here and when it arrived the rice and chicken were cold and the sauce was only lukewarm so that didn’t heat it up making it an unpleasant meal

What happened to this place? After a long time since the last time we’ve been back, which we very much enjoyed, we were so excited to comeback. We were met with two very unwelcoming staff that didn’t even say hi. They were very unhelpful when asked questions and very rude when handed our food with a very effusive “Bye!”. We didn’t even have the chance to ask which roll was which. Definitely not coming back to this branch. The couple before us left without buying anything and now I wondered if it was because of the staff... A real shame.

Great fresh food served with awesome protein and sauce. The portion sizes are massive and you get really good value for money on the bowls.

I ordered the chicken katsu roll with various toppings (all at an additional charge) and then told they had run out of Japanese mayo - not sure what substitute they added because it was utterly tasteless. Paid a small fortune for something completely bland and unappetising. Won't be going back.

It used to be my favourite restaurant, for delicious lunch. Today I went to get dinner and I was very disappointed. Food was not fresh and brown rice seemed to be off! I always get the same poke bowl and it didn't taste as usual. If comes to confusing system of ordering (being fully aware of the social distancing), I ended up having poor, not fresh rice bowl with literally few toppings (because the rest I usually got were not even on the system, like beetroot or tangy tonkatsu sauce) and twice more expensive because of extra charges for items that were previously included for free (like brown rice). Just like last time the rice was uncooked and not marinated enough, I skipped it because something like that can happen for once. But today I ended up having stomachache. I guess you are prepared with fresh food for the afternoon, so better to avoid your restaurant during the evening. I'm really sorry I have to write review like this for one of my favourites restaurants in Richmond, hopefully you will improve soon with fully updated menu options in the system and fresh food so I can visit you again!

Last time, tastes great. Today, white rice is half cooked, meaning some portion is not edible and have to pick up hard peaces from mouth. It was sad to find quality is not constant and I suggest using better rice cooker.

Tasty, good quality and fresh. The £1.50 surcharge for brown rice poke bowl rather than white rice is cheeky though. Both are low cost ingredients, so why a surcharge?

Fresh, vibrant and quick. Lots to choose from and the food is full of flavour. Make your own maki roll, poké bowl or salad. I had the inari and avocado salad and it was different to anything I’d ever tried but was delicious. Inside has a small amount of seating where you can sit comfortably to eat. But Maki and Bowl is a good place to stop if you’re on the go! Would recommend for a healthy lunch.

No gluten free menu!! I can’t believe that they don’t cater to gf people. It’s 2020 and poke bowl can easily made gluten free with tamari sauce and most of toppings are gluten-free. Very disappointing!

Walked in asking if there are any gluten free options and was rudely told no by staff as they rolled their eyes. It’s 2020 we don’t need the rudeness about dietary requirements

If you want a real Poke bowl please do NOT come here. I asked for greens as a base and it was nothing but iceberg lettuce. Portions sizes for the protein was laughable , she literally gave me a tablespoons worth of tuna. Even she knew the situation was messed up by the look she gave me when she portioned the food in my bowl .

Just tried it after looking at it and walking past for AGES! Its fab!! Delicious lunch and healthy too. Will be back loads. Love finding g a new place to eat :-)

Very Disappointed by this. I have just returned from Australia where I had fallen in love with Poke Bowls, but unfortunately my wife and I both agreed that this place doesn't make good poke bowls. The ingredients weren't fresh enough, it was like having a subway in a bowl. I wont be going back.

Avoid this place and avoid disappointment and being dangerously deceived. First try. Mercenary pricing for cold, simple, basic meals of ingredients requiring little or no preparation sold as 'delicacies'. Insufficient portion size. Incorrect and missing addition request charged for. Deceptively dissapointing. Far superior comparable ever-present offerings easily available across the cosmopolitan London region easily available at half the cost. *Please note : After posting the above honest review a 'Maki and Bowl' rep messaged me threatening legal action on a basis that contradicts our right to 'Freedom of Expression' 1948. Also stating they had my name and address. My use of the word dangerous might be understated.

Overall a decent option for lunch, costs approx £8 for a bowl per person. It’s more a place for a quick bite to eat rather than having any atmosphere or nice ambience; a bit like a Japanese Subway; which isn’t meant detrimentally. The protein (i.e. tuna or salmon) portion of a poke bowl is quite measly but a bowl is still quite filling as the rice and salad/toppings end up being enough. The flavours are good and there are quite a few options to choose from. A slightly generous 4 stars.

Amazing. Fresh. Tasty and healthy

I used to love this place, however for the last month or so it seems like they decided to cut cost, so what used to be a delicious salad bowl is now a load of rice sprinkled with the occasional vegetable. The portions are half the size they used to be, and tasteless to boost. Even the staff seems embarrassed as they make them these days.

I have been to Maki & Bowl several times in the past, fantastic fresh food and friendly staff. However on my last two visits the portion sizes have been almost half of what they used to be! A shame as it was a favourite for a quick and healthy lunch.

One of the best lunch places in Richmond for sure. A little pricy to go all the time, but you do get a great portion size to match.

Lovvvvvving this place!! Always getting them delivered to our office and they never disappoint! Made the trip to Richmond to try everything they have to offer. The shop is vibrant and colorful and again the experience was amazing!

Great food but they recently raised prices by 35% and now my regular order which was 9.50 is now almost 14 edit: Very impressed by the owner responding to my comment so quickly. 1/5 for Deliveroo value (It's a shame I only order) 5/5 for in store value 5/5 for online presence

Nice bowl of food. You can choose your protein and your vegetables so you can't fail with that. I had chicken with vegetables and hot sauce(that's not so hot actually), all for 7.3£. would definitely recommend, was very filling.

Food is ok but not best I ever had. There is no much space inside. Service was good.

Found a hair in my maki bowl. I decided to ignore it and try to eat the rest without being put off but went and found another hair on a piece of chicken too. I was disgusted by this and couldn’t finish my food. Won’t be buying from here again.

Great place to have a quick and cheap-ish asian lunch/dinner. I usually go for the poke bowl. Quite a lot of choices to pick from and ir's really tasty. The place itself is quite small byt most people buy to take away. Definitely recommend to try.

Get that chicken katsu in ma dish! Good place to eat, only downside is that its too far from my work. If they did bicycle deliveries around Richmond....they'd make twice as much. Chicken katsu is great, staff are nice and friendly. Only recommendation is to add some more vegtable options!

I love coming here - I love their other business too Beirut Street Kitchen. Their Inari and avocado bowl is simply my favourite lunch! In the summer, grab lunch from here and then go and sit by the river, eat and watch the world go by :)

Maki and bowl is a small Japanese fusion takeaway (with seating if you decide to stay) ... they offered either giant Maki roll or a big bowl of rice. I normally have a reservation about any fusion food and walked past the shops few time till the curious got better off me and decided to went inside. You choose what you want to have and what the filing you want to go with it(mest, veg, sauce , topping) I chose rice with Katsu in a bowl as i reckon the giant Maki roll would be a tat bit messy to tackle. The curry was good and the portion was massive and it came with lot of vegetable.

Having been in previously, receiving good customer service and loving the food, I was throughly dissapointed with my trip to maki and bowl in Richmond. The customer service was awful. The woman sneared responses and was incredibly stingy with portions. The complete opposite of my previous experience. For reference we went in at 2:30 14th October incase further customer service training is undertaken.

Maki Bowl, Maki Bowl, nothing better than a Maki Bowl! Super, simple, cheap, tasty, local and different. Nice bench tables for about 20 people but they do takeaway too with drinks. Lovely

Been coming here regularly and absolutely in love with the place. The chicken Katsu here is delcious. My wife who is a vegetarian loves the Inari and avocado. Warning : you will get addicted to this place.

This is an awesome concept . I tried here today for first time . What can I say. This is a hidden gem. Their chicken katsu tastes delicious . You get generous portions here , the staff are very nice . Will come back to try the salmon .

Been walking past this place since it opened but never ventured in. Today, I popped in at 8pm on a Monday on way home and didn’t expect much to be honest. But the food was fresh, very tasty and the portions very generous. Will definitely return.

I quite liked this place when it first opened: good poke, good sushi rice, generous portions. Quality has undoubtedly dropped over time: extra protein portions are indistinguishable from normal portions, occasionally serving the wrong sauce. The main issue is the last few times I ordered masago topping I received mango instead. This makes me worry: if the staff are consistently messing up this aspect of the order, what else are the messing up on? It would be nice to return at least to the good and accurate service we experienced when M&B; first opened.
