Fantastic afternoon tea, food was lovely and just the right portions to enjoy. Only downside was not enough tea maybe an extra pot of hot water to add to teabags but other that was a lovely experience.

This outlet has gone way ,way over the top with it's pricing . Been going there for years but the prices are now beyond a joke. £6.50 for a small piece of Battenburg. The mark up on chocolates available elsewhere is huge. A lot of the food looks inviting but looks are deceptive

A lovely farm shop that has so much to offer. The food products are all high quality and fresh. The cafe has a great menu and always delicious with plenty of seating. The clothes and gifts are great and such a wide variety of great items to look at from clothing to books. They are currently getting ready for Christmas and do the most beautiful displays. Well worth a look. We visit regularly and always enjoy our visits.

Extortionate for terrible food. Expectations are fairly reasonable in terms of visiting a farm shop that you might get good quality food. It's basically a very ordinary menu with poor quality food and the price for alternative milk is wild!! £1 that's around double most of the coffee chains charge I decided to have my coffee black I couldn't justify it. The environment is hideous, loud, uncomfortable and very dated. I can't quite believe the volume of cars in the car park I've no idea what the draw or attraction is for this place. It's the usual bought in rubbish you see in these places now nothing farm like about it ! Awful experience.

Hello, taking into account the fine food on offer from Deli, the breakfasts served to visitors is second rate at best and would not recommend it. Tables were dirty and the cleaning team we're clearly not keeping up with footfall turnover. We hd to ask three times for somebody to clean the table properly. If we had another option we would have left.

Lovely helpful staff but very disappointed in the food we had. The chips were cold and hard. The cheap bread that appeared to be bog standard supermarket bread that was used for our sandwiches was damp. We weren't offered any sauces for our sandwiches and it was too busy to catch any of the staffs eye. The freshly squeezed orange juice I had was lovely but was warm - no ice offered And again staff were too busy to catch their eye. I didn't want to leave my table and my food unattended to go to the very busy counter. The strawberry tart I had was lovely but fell apart as soon as I picked it up and ended up mostly on the table/floor. The farm shop is great with lots of lovey foods and gift ideas. The farm itself was interesting. I would go back on a quieter day as trying to get out the place onto a very busy main road was a nightmare. I would never eat here again.

Excellent farm shop and cafe with fab little play area and animals to see. Food was lovely and service excellent. Obviously prices were usual high end farm shop prices but you expect that. The shop was large with some wonderful produce and a great clothes and homeware section. Expect to spend some pennies.

Terrible food and coffee. Avo smashed with no seasoning, 1 medallion of bacon, 1 poached egg... salad leaves, cucumber & pea shoots - clearly a plate filler as who has salad with breakfast! NOT good for solo travellers with a dog as you have to order at the bar where dogs can't go and get handed a greasy spoon style number ticket, the staff then shout your number out - not a classy establishment. For over £9 for breakfast and over £4 for a cappuccino that was more like a bad latte this place is a disappointment, it seems money (and growth that is clearly beyond this awful place) is the priority for the business. Go to Cross Lanes - quality for a fair price instead of rubbish for a ridiculous profit for the hand rubbing owners. The staff were nice but didn't dare ask how the food was 🤣

Having been told the food was great, me and my partner set out for some lunch. Lady at the till was amazing, shame the rest of the experience was awful. Ordered lunch and then dessert to come after. Finished lunch, waiting 10 minutes for it to be cleared then, waited 30 minutes, had to go up and ask for our next round, to be met with “oh yeah” staff were unbothered and so rude the entire time. Don’t recommend.

We have visited here a few times on our trips to Southern Scotland. Originally we were impressed by this lovely shop, however on recent visits we have found that quality has declined and prices are massively inflated. £5 for a takeaway sandwich is extortionate! We bought cheeses which when opened were sweaty and not very nice at all. Thus, coupled with how stupidly busy it gets has put us of returning. Such a shame.

We have stopped for meals at Mainsgill several times a year since 2021. There has been a steady decline over that time but I agree with other reviewers it has now dipped below the bounds of acceptability even allowing for its convenient location. On a previous visit we learned the lesson that the cooked breakfast is disappointing. The bacon and sausage bore no resemblance to that on the counters in the butchery department. On the most recent visit cottage pie and vegetables looked dismal the exact same meal on previous occasions has been good. The salmon and pasta with lemon oil was dreadful, over cooked pasta, dried up small bits of the tail ends of salmon fillet, but worst of all swimming in oil that I drained from the plate. The emphasis for the staff seems to work quickly, don’t smile, don’t chat, and never ask ‘is everything alright with your meal?’ We had our grandson with us and for the first time ever were encouraged towards the draughty extension with the flapping roof, so that concurs with the comments of another reviewer. The other thing is that they never replace the failed light bulbs, so it’s getting progressively more dingy. The prices have gone up significantly even allowing for food price inflation and increased utility costs.

Instead of queueing for the cafe we decided to grab a couple of pork pies and sausage rolls from the deli. For those, a couple of cans and a flapjack it came to £18! You don’t mind paying if the quality is good…….the quality was terrible. They were the worst pork pies we’ve ever eaten. We threw half of them away! No flavor and dry. Rubbish. Distinctly Average, gift shop is nice to browse but breakfast is shamefully poor quality especially given price. £10 for a tiny portion of dry flavourless scrambled egg, the thinnest toast money can buy, 1 thin sausage and bacon that is almost transparent. Then £1.50 for one extra sausage! £10 also for one slice of toast topped with one egg and a few slices of avocado. Management got it so wrong when it comes to breakfast. It’s a £5 breakfast at best! Won’t be back, shame. Have been a repeat customer for many years.

We were returning from the North East and spotted Mainsgill Farm shop from the main road. The car park looked really busy which is always a good sign of a great place to visit. We hadn’t planned on having lunch, merely having a wander round the store, but having looked at the fabulous cakes etc on offer, we couldn’t resist. We decided to share a festive afternoon tea and also ordered a milky coffee too. What a great decision…..it was all really well presented. Sandwiches were turkey, ham and egg mayonnaise followed by a Sausage roll, crisps and salad. A festive mince pie, slice of Christmas cake and a cream & jam scone completed the afternoon tea. Everything was absolutely tasty and delicious. We had a look round the store and all the Christmas festivities …..such a fabulous place to browse and shop. We will most certainly return when we are next in the area …..having sampled the festive afternoon tea, we very much look forward to dining there again. Everything that we saw being served looked so very tasty. I just wished we lived much nearer!!!!

This was our first time here after a gap of around ten years. It is brilliant. I had a ploughman’s lunch and my current wife had lasagne. Despite how busy they were, there was not much of a wait to be served and the meals were outstanding. I was particularly impressed with the cheese and the pork pie. Many recent reviews criticise the staff, but I would describe them as efficient without being friendly. My first experience here years ago was awful, but this was fantastic. Credit where it’s due.

Visited this facility when we were away with friends for a couple of days. The camels in the field initially sparked our interest, so we stopped in & we're glad we did. There were other animals but we didn't visit those as it was cold. There was the option to go pumpkin picking, which we didn't do, but it looked like everyone that did seemed to be enjoying themselves. The shop is beautifully presented with a vast array of items to buy: clothing, Christmas decs, alcohol, food items. The butchers counter was very impressive. We bought one of their irk pies with black pudding and it was delicious. We also bought an apple pie & again, it was delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed wandering around for a couple of hours & will definitely plan in another session on our next visit.

We visited here for a quick bite to eat , great selection of cakes, pastries and hot food unfortunately very limited if you have allergies. There is no separate allergy menu or small selection that are suitable which is unusual as gluten and dairy are common allergies. Alot of there foods (burgers, sausage, black pudding) all have gluten in. The menu is based around home cooking so all day breakfasts, pies, cakes etc . We opted for an all day breakfast but one person in our party who has multiple allergies received 2 rashers of greasy bacon, mushrooms and a egg and were charged extra for GF toast. Not a great bargain at nearly £10!. Lovely place, great gift shop but menu sadly lacking for anyone with allergies.

The location is simply fabulous. At the top of Swaledale with views all around. Set up for walkers - so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Mixing with fellow walkers meant a very sociable stay. Room was good size and comfortable. Restaurant bar and lounge were of high quality and brought a high enjoyable stay. Matt and Dave are great hosts. Thoroughly recommended.

No beer on draught, no food available. The only drink on tap was from yorkshire water. Don't know how the landlord makes a living, rumour is he has funds hidden in a barrel of Wensleydale Gold.

We visited 20th October 2024 for a meal for our sons birthday. We always go for special occassions however the meals were not as good as normal . Myself and daughter In law chose the bottomless Chinese my Husband and son chose trio parmos and my other son chose the Barney rubble mixed grill . Our table was booked for 6.30 we sat for 20 minutes and I had to ask Bar staff if we were to place our order at the bar to which she said I will come to your table . Long story short we waited and waited when the food finally arrived the trio parmos were extreamly dry and very hard unedible really . Very dissapointing experence .
