Arrived at 1715 on a Wednesday to get a takeaway, couldn't park outside road was full, found a parking space 5 mins away walked to the restaurant and it was closed. Did come back another day when you were open and got a great takeaway and managed to park right outside, I know now google are a pain if you try to change the opening times.

We went here on a Saturday evening. There was one dippy waitress serving and about 6 tables to serve. We had to find our own seat after standing at the entrance for several minutes. She then walked past us at least 5 times bringing food out to other tables so we just walked out. It only takes a waitress to acknowledge you and say "I'll be right with you" but to be totally ignored is very poor.

This was an expensive Thai restaurant compared to the most. However, I felt like it was trying to be a fancy restaurant, but the quality of food was very sub-par. We had following dishes. Pad Thai - Taste 5/10 Quantity 8/10 Quantity was good, but it lacked the taste of tamarind and fish sauce so it felt more like a plain noodle. Paid 16.90 Penang curry (spicy hot) - Taste 5.5/10 Quantity 4.5/10 Food was very spicy as I ordered that, but I think the spiciness can be toned down a bit. The gravy’s taste was ok, chicken felt like it was boiled and lacked flavour. Green curry (mild) Taste 4/10 Quantity 5/10 Taste was not there. Gravy was very watered down apparently. Coconut rice Taste - 5.5/10 Quantity - 3.5/10 I’ve had coconut rice many times, but this one was very disappointing. It comes in a coconut shell (small size), and presentation looks good but lacks in everything else that matters. Papaya salad Quantity - 7/10 Taste - 4.5/10 This is another dish we try in every single thai place we go to. It also lacked in taste. Even though the chef I believe was from Thailand, we were very disappointed with food. We paid over 75 for this meal. I would honestly prefer McDonalds meal over this. I hope they will take this criticism constructively and improve the taste of food because the atmosphere is very lovely here. Service is also good.

Tried to go on a Thursday night, unfortunately didn’t book a table and was advise the wait for food would be long, we decided to skip . Went back on the Friday with a booked table, had the Thai sticky pork balls and the pad gra prao(extra spicy) and some beers, service was good, didn’t wait long for our food, had a good conversation with the owner and really enjoyed the experience, will recommend.

An amazing little find in Truro. We were welcomed by John and Michelle in such a lovely atmosphere. They were super chatty with us, which begs to question where the other reviews come from. We were laughing and sharing stories about travelling the entire meal. The food was incredibly reasonably priced and came out piping hot, and fresh. The Pad Thai was probably one of the best I’ve eaten. We also got the mango sticky rice, which was lovely. All that for barely £20pp, which was a steal. John and Michelle are an amazing couple who really care about this place, and you can tell. All their tips go to an animal charity, which makes the place even nicer. Definitely make it a visit for dinner if you’re around Truro!

It is with great regret I am writing this review. Ironically both the food and the ambient I enjoyed. The food prices were on the slightly dearer side but acceptable. A small beer was £4 and this is were the story begun. We firstly waited around 30-40minutes for our starter (4x spring rolls) easily another 45-50min went by until we received our mains. The place was not busy at all...it was clear that we were supposed to buy more of those expensive little beers. Then, my chicken dinner didn't contain any chicken. I politly made a staff member aware of this which then resulted in what I can only assume to be the chef stomping in the room. She was asking "when we had received our food" (about 5-10min ago, I had about 95% of my meal left on the plate) she then stated: "that clearly I made the mistake while ordering and everything was my fault". I explained that Iam ordering chicken on my nights out since EVER as it is my favourite meat. After alot of eye-rolling and huffing and puffing the plate was taken back to the kitchen. I now really didn't want anything to do with this meal anymore so under shock i told another staff member not to worry about it and that I won't be eating here. THIS then resulted in the same chef walking past our table 10min later getting me in to trouble for the placement of my rucksack and that I should please move it so she wouldn't trip over it. By this point it was clearly only agressions being served by her. My rucksack was tiny and in no shape or form a trip hazard. To my suprise we still had to pay for the remaining food (to make this perfectly clear we didnt have to pay for MY main meal). So to wrap this up: the actual owner was nice, so was the food and ambient. What makes me never want to go back there again was the aggressive chef and possibly the make-you-wait-so-you-drink-more-ideology.

Visited this absolute gem for dinner last night with my mum and we weren't disappointed. The place looks amazing, the food is authentic, delicious Thai food at its best and the service was wonderfully friendly. If you're in Truro and you love Thai food you simply have to visit this place.

Yummy hot food, we got satay chicken with pad tai and green curry. The staff were very lovely! Especially the gentlemen!! They let us wait in the warmth which was very sweet of them!

Small and cosy Thai restaurant. Quirky decor. Good mixed starter of Thai fish cakes, spring rolls and satay chicken. All very good. My main was Pad Thai noodles. Really good and a generous portion. My wife had the chicken masaman curry also excellent. Overall a good meal, a bit pricey maybe but times are hard!

Came on a recomendation from a friend who recently visitited for their birthday and wasnt disappointed 😃 enjoyed ourselves here! Could tell the food was fresh and cooked to order unlike many places you go these days. The portion size is generous, the atmosphere is amazing, very relaxing easy going feel to the place. The decor takes me back on my travels to Asia. Good value for money with a good choice of foods. One of our group (10 of us) was vegan, she didnt feel left out at all and accommodated her well, with substitutes on hand to switch up dishes, nice touch guys! 👍 Oh my god, try the mai Tai cocktail its delicious! Only down side was staffing levels but that's the same everywhere these days so can't really fault them for that, they do have signs up like many do asking for staff to apply. Will 100% return very soon

Food was great and the cook seemed super nice. However, the portions were small for the price and the wait staff were incredibly rude. I will not be returning. I left pretty angry

UPDATE: Decided to give it a second chance as a sit-in customer. Good but unexperienced service. Food OK. Cocktail OK. Lovely ambience. ...................................... First time as a customer and quite possibly the last. Ordered a takeaway at 645pm. They were busy so said 830pm, and that was fine. Got the takeaway home to discover 2 dishes missing. Granted, we weren't charged, but when you have people wanting food at home its rather difficult to then go back out to the supermarket to buy something to feed everyone. If you take an order say at the time if stuff isn't available and if you have a pre order don't then sell the dishes the person is expecting to pick up. And make sure you tell customers if part of their order isn't there. Dissapointed especially as we don't get the chance to get a takeaway often. Will I risk it there again? Probably not, its a similar distance to the Thai at Perranporth.

Party of 6 which included 2 vegans and 1 vegetarian and everyone had a brilliant meal! We pre-booked as we are a large party and were the only ones in the restaurant! So we had the lovely big sharing table. The staff were friendly and helpful with the menu. The food was brilliant! I especially loved the vegan corn ribs and golden tofu starters! Would recommend and would go back if ever in the area again.

I’m Thai and I can tell this Thai food taste very Thai so the chef she know how, I’m very impressed about it. The restaurant have very nice sense like thailand and very welcoming atmosphere. Definitely will comeback again❤️

The ambience and staff behaviour at Mai Thai were wonderful. The food was pretty authentic, hot, and super delicious. It was a pleasant surprise to find Singha Beer there along with the great green curry. We were a group of 13 and made loads of requests. However everything was catered to and we all had a great experience. Would love to go back there again!!

Very rude experience from the staff and incredibly long waiting times. First, they get our order wrong. Then, the wife chef, rather than apologise and correct the mistake, decided to lecture us on how a Thai iced tea is made in a very patronising tone. Later, we find hair in our food. When we took it out and asked for a fresh meal, the male member of staff said ‘I didn’t see a hair’. When we explained we obviously took it out because we didn’t want hair in the food, he replied ‘you should have left it in’, implying dishonesty from our part. Finally, the food is awful. Poor quality in taste and presentation. As people who eat Asian food regularly, this is by far the worst. It’s incredibly bland to say the least. We will never visit again.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS this was the worst customer service I have EVER experienced. The owner began to argue with us, almost shouting. He walked off from us, telling us we were 'rude tourists that like to complain' Told us that we should pay for the curry because we didn't like it due to 'personal preference', despite it being completely bland and lacking in flavour. And all 4 of us trying it and saying the same... we go out for meals all the time, and never have a problem. And I have never had a bad Thai meal before. The issue could have been easily resolved with an opology, but instead they chose to argue with us, to the point j was literally shaking. The owner then got his phone out and tried to video us without our permission!!! When I questioned him on it, he put it away and acted sheepish.. and his wife the chef said "now, what have you done?!" So, presumably he causes problems a lot of the time. Whilst we were there, one other table left most of their food. One left without even ordering and said "we are being mugged off" (not sure what happened, but they sounded angry as they left) and the table next to us said the service was terrible, and that we would be lucky to get cutlery. Also, our drinks came out wrong after us saying what we wanted about 4 times. The white wine was warm, and we were abruptly told that it had been in the fridge, when it clearly hadn't ! They bought us food over from a different table by mistake, then didn't have three items we wanted to order. And then forgot my rice..... It is beyond a joke how bad this place was !

Went here this evening and I've got to say it was delicious and the staff very friendly. I also love the way in . Highly recommended. Many thanks. Next time in down that way I will definitely be popping in again

Lovely, beautifully kept authentic Thai restaurant and takeaway over two floors, with friendly staff, interesting and flavourful meal combinations and great drinks selection.

Hands down one of the best Thai places I've been to in the UK. Food was brilliant! Folks were lovely, atmosphere was spot on for a Chiang Mai feel minus the anxiety of living in Chiang Mai. All in Truro! What we had: Deep fried Golden Tofu Spicy Deep Fried Wings Prawn Kai Pad Kheng (Ginger & Red Chilling) Vegetable Thai Red Curry All came promptly. Just reminded me of being in Thailand again. Would thoroughly recommend it for anyone looking for a good eat. Thursday was their quiet day before the weekend rush. Do make sure you book so you don't miss out. Was also looking forward to the dessert but they make it fresh on the day so they only have a set batch to make depending on their days. Another reason to book.

Had My 1st meal from here last night and enjoyed chatting to the owner (John) while collecting My simple, good indicator of quality, order, Pad Thai and Ribs! I have to say they were fantastic! Lip numbing ribs so nice! Thanks all and I WILL see You again - Tony (ML63)

A good Thai takeaway in town, friendly atmosphere and tasty food.

Tucked away in a blink and you'll miss it corner of Truro, Mai Thai is an experience not to be missed. You enter via a corridor of paper lanterns into a small, but adequately spaced restaurant. The decor is best described as kitsch, the music was a local radio station and the ambience was therefore interesting. But it was quirky and made me smile. Short staffed but still brilliant service and the wait time was very short. I didn't really know what to expect from the food. The menu was simple but authentic. The beer was good. But the food was amazing. Tasty, perfectly cooked, tender meat and dishes packed with Thai flavours. Plenty of vegetarian options as well. Really surprisingly good for such a humble place. Utterly lacking in pretension, I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at Mai Thai and will definitely return.

Delicious food! (we had the beef stir fry with thai basil, the green curry, coconut rice, and to start sticky pork balls and thai fish cakes). The stir fry was especially tasty. Great washed down with a cool beer. Friendly service and the way they've decorated is so lovely. We'll definitely be coming back!

Superb lunch. We had a mix of starters, 4x fat and juicy fish cakes, rack of ribs, 4 large crevettes and 2 huge chicken satays complete with dips. All tasty and authentic. Chuck in a couple of Singhas and a large wine all for £35. Love the decor and ambience. Shame I live 20 miles away otherwise I'd be here all the time.

Food was delicious! Really good, can't fault it!!!! But when a few mums have a rare night out, having a 'baby shark' ringtone blaring out from the kitchen every few minutes is a massive downer! Also waitress had no idea and no interest.

Just waiting for the pizza to cook that we had to buy from the supermarket after being let down again by Mai Thai. Ordered takeaway at 5.30 for 8.30 - when we arrived we were told that it would be another 25 mins ! Sat in car and rang kids to say we would be a bit late bringing dinner home - went back in after 25 mins only to be told that they had not started cooking ours yet and it would be another 20 mins, so had to go shopping to feed kids before bed. Poor service and disgusting attitude by owners when asked for explanation for delay (none!). Avoid disappointment and go elsewhere.

After reading the reviews and looking at the advertising of this restaurant we were expecting tradition thai food, the only thing authentic about this restaurant is the decor. They had no sticky rice on the menu which is extremely surprising for a ‘traditional Thai restaurant’ they had no idea what prik nam pla dipping sauce is and no idea how to make it! That’s like going to a fish and chip shop and them not knowing what tomato sauce is.The Thai crackers were dripping in oil and was like chewing gum,all over priced with no flavour.Was not expecting the seafood to be frozen considering that they are right on the coast! So if you want a traditional Thai restaurant that doesn’t serve sticky rice and cooked by English people then this will be right up your street.This has me thinking the owners have been to drinking in Thailand cooked pad Thai a few times and decided to open up a restaurant in England.Bad idea I’m afraid...stick to cooking Cornish pasties ;) on the other hand there is a amazing authentic that van just 20 mins down the road

Hands down this is my most favourite thai-food eating establishment!! Since returning from my backpacking trip around thailand a few years back, i yearned for the food once more...and then i discovered mai thai. The staff are super friendly and chatty, and i love the fact its a family-run business, who know their stuff when it comes to thai food, having developed their skills whenever they have been over there. I have become such a regular, their dish recommendations are highly regarded, and the food so reminds me of my time in thailand...so authentic..and reasonably priced considering alternatives to this degree these days. The owners will go completely out of their way to make anyones evening enjoyable, and will look to resolve any issues that a customer may have...which is why i cannot believe another recent review which is so negative and malicious towards mai thai...usually when an establishment has to caution a customer with police action it usually means anti-social behaviour, and to safeguard the other customers. This only strengthens mai thai's image in my opinion...fab food in a fab environment, where customers are well looked after and feel secure...highly recommended!!!

We had a lunchtime meal yesterday which was full of flavour and really authentic. The atmosphere was very good and the staff very friendly and chatty, but not forceful. We try to eat at Mai Thai when in Truro and in my mind has made an extremely successful replacement for previous Thai restaurants, in fact better than the others. It is definitely our “Go To” place for Thai food. Keep it up guys and stay nice.

Food was lovely but service was poor. When making a booking I wasnt informed to bring our own booze or that it was cash only. I was told very abruptly not to be late only to find there was no one to take us to our table when we arrived and we sat there for 20 minutes before anyone took even our drinks order. It seemed there were some staffing issues! Shame as the food really was lovely!

Really good green curry and pad thai. They don't losd the dishes up with sugar and they get authentic ingredients. Prices are good. Service quick and friendly. Great to have a good Thai restaurant in Truro again.
