Mahfil Restaurant in Birmingham

First time here on a Sunday afternoon. I cannot fault Mahfil. An ample choice of dishes, including meat balti, chicken tikka curry, potato & chick peas, saag. I asked the waiter for some chilli and he brought out a small plate of green & red dried chilli and some Naga pickle. Amazing. Will be back soon :)

We went there on a Sunday at lunch time and had their buffet. First the plus: The surrounding area was nice, parking was easy to find, the interiors were new, fresh and very clean and the service was good. But sorry, the food lacked any taste or flavour. Maybe it is their buffet to clear out leftover food. Maybe when you order food from their a la carte menu in the evening, they cook fresh and the food gets favourful and tasty.

Ordered a selection of food. The food here is great, few notable mentions: The starter crab dish was unique and tasty. The lamb shank was delicious! The meat came straight from the bone and was full of flavour. We arrived for early dinner on a Saturday (5pm), the place just opened and was empty. Once the next guests came they were seated right next to us, a little odd given every other seat was empty. All in all, a good spot and would recommend a visit.

A great curry house with friendly staff who offer good recommendations. Has a classy, intimate atmosphere inside. You can bring your own alcohol but they serve their own soft drinks. Definitely recommend this place - expect to book in advance as it's a small but great spot. Booking is so easy and they have made accommodations for timing and group size changes on multiple occasions with no bother. Food is always great and the menu is varied - the naan bread is particularly special here! It's good with dine in and takeaway experience as they deliver.

Another delightful evening here with friends. I love this place, so relaxed and easy, delicious food cooked well and served by attentive friendly and efficient staff.

Love this place as the food is excellent, but what a disappointment to have booked days in advance for sat evening to arrive to a very busy restaurant and no tables after having to wait some time to be sat upstairs. Oblivious over booked as our bill was brought to us as soon as we'd eaten our meal then shortly after the waitor told us the next people had arrived for our table so we had to leave not even finishing our drinks. We had one hour at our table! On leaving there was many people waiting for their tables. Come on mahfil sort your table booking system out has put me right off coming back

Terrible service and even worse curry. Don’t go here, you’re down the road from Stirchley where you’ll find a much better curry. Lived in the area all my life and decided to give it a try…no wonder nobody’s ever recommended it.

This is one of the best Indian restaurants I ever visited. I live in Staffordshire and these guys are in Birmingham but it was worth. The restaurant was looking very clean, toilets were looking very clean, all staffs were very attentive. I’ll go back. If you drink an alcoholic beverage take with you please. I only have a bit of issues with water + ice cubes I think without asking waiting staff should not add ice cubes and the music could be not too loud. I’ll be back soon again

Always our go to Indian. Food is always hot, tasty, great quality. Delivery is always a little early but that’s better than late!

I enjoy the food from here however, today’s naan was not as good as I thought it would be and not sure it was what I asked for.

AVOID!! Ordered food for the first time from here tonight, waited over 90minutes for delivery. We ordered chicken tikka along side other dishes...it came with no sauce. So rang the restaurant and was told if I wanted sauce it would be an extra £3.95. Bearing in mind we had spent alot with them tonight. The guy I spoke to was really rude and said 'you don't get it for free!' I told him i will be leaving a bad review he said OK that's fine The food that we had was very cheap and overpriced! We won't be using them again! Avoid!!!!

What a wonderful Christmas dinner we had at Mahfil yesterday. The food was just gorgeous!! The staff were brilliant and so polite. The service ran smoothly and we can't wait to return. Thank you.

Ordered chicken korma for take away and it was the worst 1 l tasted in 46 years of eating korma, no taste, creaminess and 4 pieces of chicken

Normally it is good and on time. Firstly the app said it was delivered, then after we queried, said it would be late. It then went beyond the new time and the food wasn’t piping hot and the chips we ordered were not delivered at all. Very disappointed as we had been out all day and hadn’t eaten.

Mahfil.is our new favourite restaurant, we have been 3 weekends in a row with different family members , we would recommend the banquet for 4 people , great value for money and delicious, I'm not a big eater but I ate every course which is unusual for me . Service is very good . Food amazing and value for money . It can get a little loud on busy nights and you really need to book in advance. The only down point is the toilets really could do with a deep clean , tiles , plumbing pipes , floor etc, it's a small point but would make this restaurant the perfect 100% place to go .

love this restaurant but they do get the order wrong. got 1 extra curry but didn't get any rice 😕

Staff seemed not happy as we only had a main each. We are small eaters but it felt like we were not liked fir this. We were talking and a young man came along and rudely butted straight into our conversation with "are you paying by card or cash". Thus is unacceptable and so rude. We felt like they wanted us out. It was my birthday too. How not to treat customers. We were also checking out the place for an upcoming event involving 10 people. Thanks but you just lost that custom.

A bit disappointed with the lack of flavour and quality of the food that was delivered. Mahfils is usually really delicious and we love to sit in the restaurant to eat for special occasions, but the food delivered tonight didn’t match up to its usual quality. I had more sauce than chicken in my Butter Chicken that it was more like a soup and the flavour wasn’t as tasty. The whole meal was a bit of a let down to be honest, not great.

Great food but the order is never correct

My friend and I visited the restaurant last night. The food was amazing! Best Indian food we have had. The food was delicious and plentiful. The staff were very polite and helpful. The restaurant is very lovely inside and beautifully decorated. The room upstairs is very modern and spacious. We will certainly visit again with friends and family!

Superb Indian food. One of the best in Birmingham. Get a blanket size naan and a 'Ruby Murray' . Wonderful. Booking essential . Recent change in policy has meant that this restaurant no longer sells alcohol. (A big mistake in my view)

Food was nice but I ordered a tandoori mixed kebab main and got a chicken thigh, 3 nuggets of lamb and chicken and half a sheesh kebab. not worth 13 quid. when you do a great deal of 40% off its not so great if you give 40% less.

Delicious. Did arrive 15min before the time we’d selected meaning we weren’t ready for it but everything tasty.

We booked as a group for a family event and the food was really good, not very spicy which we and kids enjoyed that way, but I could taste the sugar on the naan bread unlike other places. Also the waiting time for main course was 55 minutes and that was too long because we did not want to order starters except papadoms. Tge place was very busy on Saturday night and I noticed lots of takeaways, that must have busied the thefts and kitchen staff. The waiting time made me think we were not that of a priority, not like takeaways anyway. For a next visit we'll have a different approach.

Gutted as I have used for years and always said how great the place was until tonight. Made an order for collection & one of the mains was wrong so called and they said could collect a replacement, when I got there no apologie and when I got back the butter chicken was watery not to the standard of previous orders.

Top notch. Excellent non pushy service, beautiful ambience, and first class food but not quite 5 star. Can't fault it at all really, will be back soon to try another dish.

It's a very nice place and the staff are very friendly. My food was very well cooked and the ingredients are good quality. Unfortunately the flavour really let it down, I found my curry to be rather bland and tasteless. It's not just the heat that was lacking, it was the overall blend of spices that you expect from an authentic Indian meal that was missing. Also, minor criticism, the lighting would be better if it was a bit dimmer. Other than that, it's a lovely place to sit and enjoy a meal.

Delivery time kept changing said it had been delivered when it hadn’t then added another 15 minutes after it was already 35 past the time it was meant to be delivered & food was cold especially the naan breads was barely edible. Haven’t had a curry in months and after this one probably be even longer before I have one.

Lovely place great staff but sorry to say the food is so bland.Four of us for the first time we all had different curry's all different spices and not one of us enjoyed them.quite expensive as well. Shame really.

Meal was nice, although I couldn’t eat my coriander & garlic naan bread because there was something red on top of it. Due to me having allergies & not knowing what it was I wouldn’t eat it. It would be more helpful if a full description was printed alongside the item

I'll never order a take away from here again. Chicken was ok, why I've given 2 stars. Too much watery ghee and the nans had dried to dough. No garlic on mine. Just dry, with bits of red. Disappointed 😞

Set the scene... a much anticipated festive celebration for family and friends. Sparkle, magic, and the wonder of celebration. Oh, sorry, that's not this place at all. There's porridge out there spicier than you get here - a range of dishes were ordered from mild to "3 chilli pepper", all of which could be served to a one year old and they'd be bored (I'm not even kidding. Baby food is spicier). It's like eating soggy sawdust. Don't expect dessert, there isn't any to be had. Last of all, the very best bit. The most creative award of the evening went to the bill. Which bore absolutely no resemblance whatsoever to the published prices on the web menu. In any way. Not even close. Massively overcharged when compared, and surprise surprise... a completely illegible bill with drinks nothing more than a scribble at the bottom. Staff stood there finding everyone's puzzlement very amusing. Their grins only broadened and their eyes twinkled when a further pile of tenners landed on the plate to cover the mysterious cost of what what was, without a doubt, the worst curry any and all of our 20 strong party had ever had. Hands down. Seriously people, if you respect your taste buds, your wallet and your self esteem, don't touch this place.

Poor service what’s the point in booking a table and it not been ready over booked and ruined the evening

Booked New Year's Eve with family two months prior. Rushed service we were told we could not order desert as table had been booked and people waiting . We had one hour to eat.The bill came to almost,£200 at this price the service was questionable due to rude members of staff,not an enjoyable evening and will not be returning. Money first, service secondary. 👎

It was a hit quite as we were earlier than normal.

Everything was lovely, just 1 naan bread was cold, but we still enjoyed our meal, so we could have warmed it back up. But overall lovely food.
