*** If this review is helpful, give it a like! *** I just had a 10 out of 10 meal and felt compelled to leave a positive review; it was THAT good... 1) The quality of the food is a lot better than a couple of years ago. The Tikka Masala Sause is dark, and rich, and full of flavour, without being too sweet. It's in the Goldilocks Zone "it's just right". The chicken quality is better too. Marinated perfectly, falls apart in the mouth, and not "tough" to chew, it's just perfect. 2) The customer service is exceptional, the dude somehow manages to remember my preferences, even when I had forgotten to mention them myself! I like a lot of coriander, and I had forgotten to mention that when placing my order because it's been a while since I last had an Indian. So when delivering my food, he told me he'd remembered, and included a little pot of coriander for me, even though I'd forgotten to mention it! ...How do you remember all this, with hundreds of customers?? Amazing service! 3) There's one item which they don't official do any more, as it's off the menu for not being very popular, but I really miss it. Perfect customer service, he's kind enough to make them especially for me, because he knows how much I like them!! I won't say what it is, because I don't want to create extra work for them, by people seeing it mentioned here, and then asking for them. But needless to say amazing service for going the extra mile for me. Other take aways will just say no, which is why I will NEVER buy from the "Cubic" one, near Specsavers. They ignore notes/requests, and after spending literally £3,467 across 24 months there, they have zero customer loyalty. But Taj really make the effort to look after the customer. 4) The food is extreamly fresh. It's no secret that most places will prepare food ahead of time, and there may be a lot of preservatives in fast food places. I'm hypersensitive to things like that, and it's especially noticeable from the one indian that everyone says is the best, the one not too far from Home Bargains. But Taj, I didn't get that weird taste. So whatever they're doing, it's the right thing! 5) I'm not bloated! I usually feel really groggy and bloated after any take away, especially Indian food. But, I'm totally fine, some how? And I ate a load! But I feel great. I was expecting to feel high blood pressure, and possibly pass out to sleep... But nah, I'm great... I don't feel like him struggling to hold my food down, I feel properly satisfied! 6) I'm diabetic, type 2. And I monitor my sugar levels with a FreeStyle Libre 2. It shows more than just the number representing my blood sugar levels, as they are right now. They also show a graph, representing how quickly my sugar levels rise and fall. Usually high sugar/fat stuff like Indian, Chinese, and worst of all Dominos, causes my sugar levels to rise VERY quikly, and that looks like a steep line on the graph. However, while I've been typing this, I can see a fairly shallow increase, meaning that the ingredients they use, are better quality than other restaurants that I can compare with. The food contains less sugar than the average Indian restaurant/take away. 7) Extremely fast delivery, a d it was delivered by the same helpful guy who took my order, and remembered all my preferences, and went out of his way to help improve my experience. 8) Food was still VERY hot, despite me taking ages to get ready because I had something I needed to sort out before settling down for food, (10 to 15 mins). Which means the food was BOILING upon arrival. So yeah.... Really happy.... I hope the quality remains consistent, and my next order is just as amazing...!

Food is fantastic never let down by service or how polite every member of staff are. Even asked if they could make just a dairy free Korma, and they did and its beautiful. Coconut rice had half Bag of sugar. The lamb in madras was chewy. Nearly pulled my teeth out. The price was ridiculous £38 for two curry's, two terrible rice dishes some poppadoms and dips. But the sugar rice effort, absolutely ruined it. Last time I will eat there. And this review will be on Face book for sure.

Never complained about this restaurant before but tonight was awful. Butterfly king prawns-was just batter fried with a small prawn somewhere inside it, tandoori chicken starter burnt to a crisp, chicken passanda watery and everything tasteless. Have tried to call back and no answer even tho restaurant closes at 12am, I have been trying since 23:15. I wouldn't score this 1 star let alone feed it to my dog. Awful and really has let the restaurant down. USED to be the only place I would go now this has change.

Ordered 3 vegetarian side dishes and a naan bread. Food tasted great, both me and my partner were satisfied with the portion size, and the bill came to only 8 pounds for each of us. The waiter was also very nice and friendly. We were the last customers before closing time, and we had a nice 30-minute chat with him about experiences living in different countries. We eventually intend to come back for the Sunday all-you-can-eat buffet for 10 pounds. Only suggestion I could make is to add more vegetarian main dishes to the sit-down menu. The only one I saw was the curry, all other options were side-dishes. The takeaway menu seemed to have a lot more vegetarian options that were not offered when eating at the restaurant.

Ordered a vegetable korma as I am a vegetarian, was told home delivery would be 45 minutes to an hour, so decided to collect myself.Started eating the korma only to find a piece of chicken in it! I am absolutely disgusted!! Phoned the restaurant, had no apology, they delivered another dish after waiting 30 minutes, by which time the rice and naan bread was stone cold. Restaurant insisted on the dish back with evidence of the half chewed chicken. Will NEVER eat here again. DREADFUL!!

I have been visiting Maheen’s (and its previous incarnation, The Shezan) for over ten years and it was always one of the highlights when visiting Ammanford to stay with my Grandparents. These days, I unfortunately don’t get as many opportunities to visit the area, but it’s a personal pledge to always include a meal at this restaurant any time that I do. So, with a holiday to South Wales booked, I was looking forward to returning to this little haven and hoped that it was still open and doing well. While I could see on TripAdvisor that Maheen’s was still serving Ammanford to its usual high standards in July, given how things are still tough for businesses (especially in an area such as Ammanford, which I believe still has high unemployment and yet seems to have even more takeaways and other food establishments than before), I was hoping that I’d find them still open and thriving. Entering the building, we were greeted by not just the waiter (who also remembered us!), but thankfully also the restaurant as we knew and loved it. While the food is ultimately what matters the most, for me, it would have been such a shame if Maheen’s had scrapped the warm red wallpaper, carpets and mixture of dining areas and followed the trend of cold bare walls and laminate flooring. Ok, there were some signs of a little wear in a few places, but this restaurant is very comfortable and homely - far removed from the, often sterile surroundings that form the interiors of Indian restaurants these days. I did notice that they had since added some neon lighting to the ceiling in one area, which reminded me of some “improvements” made to a local restaurant (in which they gutted the (a bit worn in places, but just perfect!) interior, which was practically the best thing about the place and went for bare walls and neon lighting that changed colour running along the edge of the ceiling). Thankfully this was on a far subtler scale and also one doesn’t really notice it when sat down and eating. And speaking of eating, time to move onto the food and drink. Draught Kingfisher lager used to be the beer of choice when dining at Maheen’s; they have since shifted to serving only bottled Cobra, which is no problem and actually works out as better value, since ones gets more than a pint for the same price as what some restaurants charge for a pint. For a starter I opted for poppadums, whereas others in my family went for onion bhajis. Naturally we also asked for a chutney tray (which at Maheen’s consisted of mango chutney, raita, onion and coriander salad and ground coconut (I haven’t encountered this anywhere else, but it works very well!)) to accompany our starters. The poppadums were cooked nicely and tasted good, as were, I’m told, the onion bhajis. The chutney and raita were still both tasty, but like the chutney tray itself (no longer a metal revolving server (with the raita served in an accompanying miniature jug), but now plastic containers housed inside what resembled a metal mini milk bottle holder), a bit substandard and rather thin. But if savings have to be made, then it’s far better to make them with sundry items such as these rather than with meat quality and other areas such as hygiene (Maheen’s has a very respectable four out of five score for this). So, onto the actual curries. My family chose chicken jeera, chicken vindaloo and vegetable vindaloo and I selected my old favourite, chicken jalfrezi. These were all nicely presented in copper bowls and each of the rice portions came in patterned ceramic dishes. The quantities of everything was just right. I also ordered a plain naan bread, which came in a basket and was already cut into quarters, which seems to be the trend now, but is fine (there is something satisfying about tearing a naan bread, but it doesn’t really matter!). It tasted very fresh and flavoursome, with no need for anything else added, although that would be nice to try a garlic or other flavoured naan. Starting to eat my curry, it took me back to the last time (it might have even been seven years) that I ate at Maheen’s – it was just as I remembered it and nigh-on perfect! Everyone else enjoyed their dishes as well – the only complaint (which I agreed with) was that the curries could have been a bit hotter, temperature-wise. In the past (I can’t recall when), they used to bring out tabletop food warmers, though actually, many other restaurants also no longer seem to do this, either (which is a shame and doesn’t make sense). After we had all enjoyed (and in my cousin’s case, having had the vegetable vindaloo, which was a first!) also endured our main courses, we relaxed and finished our drinks before being brought the bill and those wonderful hot towels and some After Eights. Finally, we had the pleasant surprise of being greeted by the owner, who we had a nice chat with (again, he remembered us all!) and which was the perfect way to finish the evening there. So, after it being far too long since my last visit, I was so happy to discover for myself that Maheen’s is still a fabulous restaurant and a real jewel in Ammanford’s crown. With there now being three Indian restaurants in the town (along with other food outlets), one would assume that there is still a strong taste for Indian food, yet the competition has to be at its most intense for some time and so I hope that especially an established stalwart such as Maheen’s can survive. If it can continue with what it’s doing (and also consider the points I brought up), then hopefully it will continue serving Ammanford for years to come. If you live in the area or are visiting, be sure to check it out!

Had a curry delivered last Saturday and although it arrived quickly, the food wasnt good. My vegetarian Korma was lukewarm and devoid of any veg except mushrooms and a few pieces of potato. The chips were half cooked and the naan was still doughy and under cooked. The chutney tray sauces were meager considering there were 2 of us sharing. My OH had a madras and it was nice as were the onion bahjee. All in all a bit of a waste of £25. What once was a jewel in the Ammanford crown, Shezan, now Maheens, knowing the owner he has tried to replace the previous chef with varying success. But recently it's the food is devoid of any genuine taste. And all the curries are all sauce no substance. The staffing has changed for the worse. The ambience of the restaurant has never been the same. Anyone that rates this 5* truly knows nothing of the glorious cuisine Indian can be.

Having read the two terrible reviews, I find them hard to understand. My wife and self were passing through Ammanford - from Leicester, where we have endless Indian etc restaurants - and went to this one 'on spec' and had the best meal of our 6 day break in Wales. Maybe it's just the luck of the draw with some, but we would definitely go again. The staff were fine, the service good - although there were only a very few people there for a Saturday evening.

Lovely poppadoms and chutney tray for beginners, nice crispy onion bajees and naan bread. 2 of us had the veggie pathia which was sweet and sour rather than spicy but still lovely. My partner had the madras which he thoroughly enjoyed, I had a veggie korma and it was fab! Could have been a little warmer but other than that the food was wonderful and there was plenty of it. Just been for a Takeaway from Maheen;s in Ammanford, I have never ever had the misfortune to receive a meal as disgusting and atrocious as I have received this evening. I ordered a Shami Kebab as a starter, which was cold and looked like two £2 coins they were so small, followed by a Lamb Saag, which traditionally comes with a spinach sauce and is quite dry, not swimming in grease and tasteless as I had this evening. The keema rice was devoid of any meat whatsoever, and the Keema Naan was dry and thin and for some reason cut into quarters, maybe to save the Keema meat inside it, because I couldn't find it. This has to be the most disgustin excuse for an indian meal I have ever had the misfortune to experience. I had to give 1 star because the ability to give a zero doesn't exist.

Maheen's restaurant in Ammanford can compare more than favourably with any Indian restaurant I have visited and they include London, Birmingham and Cardiff Indian Restaurants. Once inside the door you will experience a warm hearted welcome from every member of staff - I'm always greeted with "Shwd mae, Shwd I chi hero?"You will experience a very good selection menu and if you ask for a combination or a different meal they will certainly do their utmost to try and accommodate your requirements. The ambiance experienced during your visit is something to experience and value. When visiting Maheen's one can't help but noticing the same faces as when I was there last time, which certainly proves that it is well worth a second visit in order to experience the gastronomic talents of the chef. Outstanding indian takeaway food, genuinely surprised how good their food was, been back many times now and consistently excellent. Edit. A sad decline in standards across the board, we eat here multiple times a week, unfortunately the food quality has declined to the point we had to contact them when my Son's curry had half an inch of oil floating on top of it. They declined to apologise or replace it, we won't be going back.

Been a regular customer for years both myself and all my family tonight we had a biriani and I have to admit it was awful... it was bland no flavours at all hardly anything other that rice onions and about 2 potato's which were under cooked honestly awful. I don't know if you may have a new chef but we as a family won't be returning as this was the same last week when other members of my family had food it's changed and not for the better sorry but you are going to loose alot of customers

It's a shame I can't give a better rating. As a lover and self proclaimed connoisseur of Indian food, Rasoi has all the makings of a fine establishment, however... Staff need better training. On multiple occasions simple questions RE dishes have had to be relayed by the serving staff to the chefs as the staff are unsure on menu items. Curries have been wrongly served to guests.. again, it's the servers job to get these things right. Also had a bad experience with there weekend lunch offer once. Nowhere does it state that they close the kitchen for 2 hours at 3pm. Our booking was for 2.45, so 5 minutes after sitting down we were told we MUST order now before the chefs finish for their break. They shouldn't accept bookings at these times if their going to proceed to rush customers. The menu for the lunch menu is also confusing and easily misconstrued leading to a more expensive bill. This all being said. The curries are fine. The breads are nice and fresh, chutney trays are good too. Portions are a little low, but that's pretty normal these days for dine in upmarket Indian restaurants. I would say it's worth a visit for a nicer occasion as the restaurant is nice. Just bare in mind the service issues that can occur.
