Maghera Inn in Down

The staff were incredibly friendly and the food was to die for. Tried both the salmon fillet and the chicken katsu curry and I honestly don't know which to recommend more.

This was the first time we have been to The Maghera Inn but it definitely won't be the last . The menu has plenty of choice the service was excellent and you couldn't fault the food it was delicious.

food was good but like a lot of restaurants ordered dessert and coffee the coffee came 15 minutes before the dessert I should have said but u would think they would know don't drink coffee before dessert at home

Lovely food on Easter Sunday. They do a collection service for food too, which I've used a few times. Highly recommend.

A real hidden gem , will definitely be back

Very disappointed with the food yesterday. I had the Lasagne which was terrible was mostly cheese and the little bit of mince that was in it was so dry. Another one of my party had the burger and they were not impressed either saying it was so dry as well with no real taste I have been on previous occasions and food was normally very good but I'm afraid yesterday will put me of going back in a hurray

Incredible food - large portions, great value for money. This pub/restaurant has a lovely vibe and suits adults and children.

Have used here on previous occasions, the most recent time which was 2yrs ago and everything was nice. open fire, nice atmosphere & food was lovely. However, went a few days ago with 3 kids and 2 adults (didn't book) around 1150am. The place was empty and was only to be told RUDELY they could not us provide us with a table. Its understandable if they have bookings and all tables were full, but unfortunately this was not the case. If this was my business i would try and accommodate every customer walked through the door. This is lost business and i think its fair to say i will not return or recommend to family or friends. We then went on into Newcastle only for O'hares to take us as a walk in with no issues. so my advice would be going forward book a table in advance.

Great busy atmosphere. Food wise portions are very generous. Chicken liver parfait and crumbed mushrooms were good starters and then the salmon was OK - huge portion of salmon. Sausage and mash also good. The onion rings were disappointing and wouldn't order again. Too much batter and the onions were very bland, basically just a doughy flavour.

Lovely old fashioned country pub. Authentic and atmospheric, offering warm and attentive service, big portions and a nice variety of options, including a kids menu and desserts. Loved it!

Finally found a roast dinner worth having. Food was great and staff friendly.

This place was recommended highly by friends and I’m so glad I made the journey the steak was beautiful and the staff were so attentive we will definitely be back 👍👍

We went to the Maghera Inn a few weeks ago. We booked the table for 20:30, so a late booking but I must say it was a lovely experience from the food to the service and all around we had a fantastic time. We were the last to leave the restaurant but the staff never made us feel rushed. We both had the salmon and the portion size for that dish was massive and the aroma.... We're definitely going to come back again.

We call in here regularly after a days walking in the mountains. It's a cosy bar with a log fire crackling in the corner and friendly welcoming staff.

Delicious food. Lovely setting. Great location for a hiking day. Not cheap but then the decor and food weren’t either. Everything we ate was in big portions and tasted fantastic. And they catered amazingly for our small children too. Beautiful Christmas decorations.

We visited here after having it recommended to us. It certainly didn't disappoint!!! As soon as you walked in the door all of the staff were so friendly, love the decor especially the Christmas decorations!!! The food was absolutely gorgeous and we'll definitely be back.

First time here and had a beautiful meal with my friends.

This establishment has to be the cosiest, most comfortable, casual bar/restaurant on the planet. More importantly the food and service and friendliness are superb. I have started to go on a Friday afternoon to treat myself and I honestly cannot complain about one single thing. The food is so tasty, plentiful and well presented. It is consistently delicious, not common in this day and age. The roast dinners are actually the best anywhere because they actually taste of old fashioned roast dinners. Well done the Inn, I’m so happy I’ve found you.

Hadn’t been here in a few years and decided to return as a family as we had rented accommodation in the Mournes and wanted a decent meal. Wasn’t disappointed, the food was lovely and portion sizes were great.The service was good considering the place was packed, about a thirty min wait. I’d recommend the salmon,it was delicious, my daughter in law had the roast beef and loved it. One small thing though, we had one member of our group still eating and the waitress whipped away everyone else’s plates. Overall a great experience and will definitely return

Always very attentive with great food.

Recommended by the B&B we were staying at. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. Ordered one of their specials and their salmon dish. The portions are huge, one could easily feed two. The meal was hot, delicious and plentiful. Good atmosphere, clearly a Favorite of locals and understandably so. Go hungry and you will not be disappointed. The chef and staff are to be commended. Glad we took the advice of our host.

My partner and I came for dinner here and we were super excited because we’d heard so many amazing reports about this establishment. We were bitterly disappointed, the fish and chips was mediocre but the rib stack was atrocious, they were swimming in bbq sauce to the point that the sauce was falling all over the sides of the plate, I think to hide the fact that there was barely any meat on the ribs. The onion rings were so hard I could have smashed the mirror with them. The service was poor because the staff were more interested in chatting to each other than serving tables(we’d waited more than a sufficient amount of time to be asked what dessert we’d like) overall it’s just a shame because we heard such amazing reports previously. I won’t be back.

Called in for Sunday lunch which didn’t disappoint, had chicken strips for starter which were amazing and then the roast turkey and ham for mains which was delicious, the portions are great, I had gravy on mine and the son had peppered sauce on his and both were out off this world, the whole experience was amazing from the tentative and friendly service to the amazing food to the new furniture this is most go to place

Maghera Inn is a lovely country pub. Food is always excellent. I have never had a bad meal here. Staff always friendly and try their best to accommodate at busy times to get you a table. Unfortunately not always possible, but they do try. I definitely recommend a visit.

Great food apparently they have been doing good business throughout the summer. We were really impressed.

Eclectic decorated and homely little inn and staff were exceptionally welcoming and relaxed atmosphere creating. The family and I visited for early father's day family meal and the food was incredible. Highly recommend the Katsu Curry so sumptuous and creamy. The Cod and chip also must get a we shout-out as it was rated by a knows what they like fisherman. Update - On a recent birthday dinner visit this little gem has continued to live up to the fond memories of the previous experience and have to add a big thumbs up to the fillet steak.

Came here with 3 other people and we all had a great time, everyone loved their meals. I got the seafood chowder and the tender stem pappardelle pasta and sticky toffee pudding. The seafood chowder was very very nice BUT didn’t top my all time favorite. The pasta was gorgeous, nice and creamy but not too heavy and the goats cheese was lovely with it. I do think they could do with more vegetarian starters or a veggie burger option. Definitely recommend and would come here again!

Lovely meal very pleasant staff . Turkey and ham dinner was great and plenty of it . Good selection something for pretty much everyone even my picky don't really like vegtables vegetarian niece managed 3 courses

The booking process was a bit disappointing but we liked the Maghera apart from it taking a long time to place our order - 45 minutes. The food was great and the service good once we’d overcome the original delay.

Lovely wee pub 🍻😍 Had the Roast of the day and the beef was melt in the mouth + lovely gravy + mash! Fish and chips also good, although I'd personally recommend the roast if you're unsure! They serve Guinness 0.0% which is great if you're driving but still want the Irish pub experience 🍀😉🚗 Really sweet decor in and out, proper Irish pub.

The fish chowder was just soooo sooo good. The foods a bit pricey but the taste, presentation and quality of the foods is just so good.

Great service , dairy and gluten free options, server knew exactly what was suitable for me with intolerances and I was extremely happy with that service as most places aren't to sure , would happily return ( if we can get booked in , it's a very popular spot) always book before hand for a table if possible

If you want value for money don't go If you want friendly staff don't go there if you want a relaxed meal, without staff coming up to you and hurrying you don't go there Sad really it has to be good place

We were booked for 8 p.m. but tablecwasbt ready. Quickly offered seats in bar area and our orders taken from there. Seated by 8.20 and meal served immediately. Meals were delicious and my Thai Green Curry was excellent. Atmosphere busy and friendly.

Gorgeous pub, food was amazing. 7 of us sat in & were really well taken care of - everyone loved their meals. I had the chowder which was fantastic. Lovely atmosphere & staff were great too. Highly recommend!

First time was good but service was slow. Second time service was slow and food was terrible. My dish was sizzling chicken that could not be eaten. I ate some because l was really hungry. But wouldn't bother again.

What a lovely pub, plus it had food on a Tuesday and the food was excellent. I had mushroom risotto, with pea shoots and spinach - truly delicious, I’m sure the small portion was to encourage me to have a pudding. My husband had Korean beef, with vegetables and rice - he loved it. We shared a sticky toffee pudding and salted caramel brownie both with ice cream - the brownie was my favourite. We will be back!

10/10 for food and for friendliness of staff. I would highly recommend the Mahgera Inn for a meal. It does not disappoint... brilliant menu 😋
