Very convenient for anyone travelling on A1. Although located in an industrial estate, this is anything but industrial. The tea room is beautifully decorated and gives you a feeling of Alice in Wonderland tea party. The food is great and fresh. We will certainly be visiting here again!

Great place, great service, great food an outstanding value for money. My fantastic partner and I were heading to Beamish and stayed at Washington. Started the day to Maggie's. Dog friendly, had belly buster breakfast which is not only massive but really high quality. Special mention, I had a latte, omg so good I had a second.

Was shopping in the area and noticed this little gem, as we were feeling hungry thought we would give it a try. Wow what can I say had the corn beef and potatoe pie with all the trimmings and the only word to use is SUPERB the pie was excellent consistency (no soggy bottoms here), the chips were unbelievably tastey no grease or oil residue and fresh vegetables, well worth the price. Will definitely recommend this to friends and family and will most certainly visit again

If you are looking for a lockdown present or a special treat the afternoon tea here is fantastic! Well done for keeping it fresh, homemade and great food When it opens back up , small friendly and definitely worth a visit A little gem in the middle of an industrial estate ❤️

Second time visiting this place, the breakfast last time was lovely.Today's experience. The shop only had 3 other people in which is great not being busy as you would get served quicker. We waited 5 minutes no problem, the lady came out served the other tables breakfast looked across at us and walked back into the kitchen area. She came out a second time served the table and looked across at us for the second time, waiting patiently untill their order was served. We waited a further 15 minutes and decided to leave as you could just hear talking from the kitchen area.If it was busy we could understand but the place was empty with only the 3 other people who had been served already.Even of the staff had said we wont be long or acknowledged that we were sat waiting we would of waited incase they were dealing with a big order but all you could hear was talking.Waiting in total for 20minutes with only 3 other people this is a complete joke not to even be acknowledged or asked if we wanted a drink.A let down as the 1st time we visited this place the service was slow but the breakfast was nice and the place it self is lovely. We did decide after the 20 mims to get up and leave were we had a lovely breakfast in the Washington galleries.Probably wont venture here for a 3rd time to be honest, I would hate to think if it was busy you're breakfast would probably end up being you're lunch.1 star is purely for the service and unwelcome feeling.

This is only the second time visiting this tea rooms. The first time my friend was over charged and today I was overcharged. It’s bad enough being over charged but when it’s brought to the staffs attention their attitude is appalling. It doesn’t take a mathematician to add two items together. The staff are either very incompetent or doing it on purpose. Anyone can make a mistake but for it to happen twice it makes me wonder. The staff definitely need training in customer service. I also found the crockery on the table was dirty which was very off putting. Now to get to the food. I had the special which I was enjoying until I found a big black hair. Needless to say my meal was left and I couldn’t bring it to the attention of the staff after their attitude with being over charged. We won’t be returning.

Called in Maggies for lunch , excellent choice and very tasty . Decided to buy some goodies to take home 2 scones very dry and had to throw away. Vanilla slice pastry was very undercooked and slice of apple pie very sour. These 4 items cost me £7.90. Will never buy anything to take away again and need to think about another visit. Rethink your take away prices Maggie, they should be slightly cheaper than eating in.

My wife and I called in to Maggies Tea room to save us from cooking our lunch before we embarked on a long journey for our holiday break. We were greeted into a friendly and clean atmosphere where we had our lunch which we chose from a varied and modestly price menu sheet. There was plenty to offer and they had a great sweet menu which we resisted. I have visited this Tea Room on at least 3 times in the past and have always enjoyed their culinary offers.

If, for some unfathomable reason you find yourself hauled up in the Crowther Industrial Estate then I suggest you make your way to Maggie's Tea Room. I recently took 'her indoors' to shop in the local Paper Craft outlets and had a good hour to kill. The tea room was very busy at 1pm...mostly chatting ladies and a couple of noisy kids...but service was prompt and staff efficient, obliging and pleasant. Coffee tasted good and a cheese and tomato sandwich (generous grated cheddar and diced tomato in a largish soft white bun and with a small side salad) was very well received. Tab was a little over £5. Menu is quite varied and...always a good indicator.. the unisex toilet well kept and very clean.

This was our first visit. My sister and I went to the counter to order drinks, we did take a while to decide (there was no queue so being indecisive shouldn't have been an issue), but we were made to feel like an inconvenience by the server, so decided to go back for our food order once we had had a little bit of time to think. I went myself to the counter to order food, there were no baked potatoes (it was quarter past three and the closing time was four so this seemed fair enough) so I had to go back to ask what my mother wanted instead. When I returned to the counter another member of staff came out of the kitchen and asked the server 'is that a food order?' when she answered 'yes' her reply was 'ahh are you joking?!?'. Again, not very welcoming at all and made to feel like even more so of an inconvenience. We could not complain about the food - other than the fact it looked like they were rationing their crisps. The salt and pepper dispensers were rusty. One of the staff members was wearing leggings as trousers which wasn't pleasant to look at - especially considering you could also see through them. There was a very pleasant member of staff who we heard interacting with the customers, bless her she must be the only one. While eating, I googled what time they closed to try and figure out why they were so upset that we were ordering food. We joked that we were surprised they weren't shouting at new customers walking through the door 'WERE CLOSED AT 4' and just as we said it that'd exactly what happened. Just to make matters worse, as it was nearing closing time one of the staff members was leaving. Before going home she clearly wanted to show her work mates her dog/puppy - which she took into the kitchen! A food hygiene inspector would have had a field day. Although there was no complains about the food (although the customers the next day might be eating dog hair) the customer service and hygiene issues definitely meant it wasn't worth returning to. Disappointing trip.

Hidden away in an industrial estate is this jewel. The main attractions here are Dainty Supplies and Design a Cake where people flock to find items for baking and making. How many overlook this small establishment.

This tea room looks like an industrial unit form the outside but once you go through the doors it opens up into a lovely 'shabby-chic' tea room with delicious home made cakes and scones. The coffee is really good too! The staff bring your order to your table which means there's rarely a queue. This has become a regular place for me to meet with friends almost every week!

Best toasties around, TEA IN A REAL CHINA CUP AND SAUCER with gorgeous teapots. I get a different one and cute little milk jug every time and it really adds to the charm of the place. Homemade pies are gorgeous too and family tell me it's a good cup of coffee. Cakes are really nice, always opt for the homemade ones! If we are anywhere near we always pop in its definitely one of our favourites.

I've visited here twice, both times for afternoon tea. The first time was with my friend, the second time we went back with our partners. We booked both times through Facebook message, and the owner (not sure if she is the owner, I just assumed she was) remembered us from last time, and recalled that we both picked all of the raisins out of our scones, so she made plain ones and kept them reserved especially for us when we went back! This made such a difference to our experience; having staff that remember you and actually care is so nice and makes you want to go back. The portions are generous and the scones with cream are soooo good! Lots of choice for sandwiches and cakes, sometimes they even add some nice little chocolates... Bottomless teapots, which are adorable, everything served on china, the decor is amazing - all of the chairs are odd and any matching ones are scattered around. The whole place is so quirky and fun - such a nice atmosphere, would definitely recommend!

Well this is well worth a trip. Everything is served on China which I love and believe me it was well worth z visit. I had cake with rose and lavender and it was absolutely amazing. My daughter had a toasties which was served with the most delightful coleslaw I have ever tasted. Anna, shelly, Hayle and Jan are really, lying worth more than a mention. Everything was immaculate and the service exemplary. This is definitely a place I will be visiting every time I am in the vicinity. There us also an added feature of a small clothing shoo at the back called gladrags which us well worth a browse.

When there as a family of four, Being before quite a few times without any problem, but this time me and my son had burgar, chips and extra slice of cheese and onion rings plus its says salard. Both burgars had no salard and were missing extra cheese. The burgars in the photo looked really nice, the ones we got we got were very thin and tasteless. The staff are great but very much doubt we will be back.

First visit here. Lovely ‘proper’ pub with lots of history. Greeted warmly upon arrival and drinks brought to our table. Got the steak and ale pie with veg and mash. Absolutely delicious and home cooked, no microwave meals here. Dessert was ginger pudding which was knockout. Staff were all lovely and we were made welcome. I told them we would be back and we will. It was excellent.
