Pretty expensive for the portion sizes. Enjoyed my experience but one of our group got food poisoning from the chorizo sausages

For when you want Mexican food while in Liverpool, everything ordered was good. Elote was especially delicious.

Visited as part of the Liverpool Walking Food Tour schedule 29 Sept '24. Well recommended and will aim to come again.

The food was legit (I'm Mexican so I can vouch for it haha) and very tasty. The staff was also lovely and they took really good care of us.

Really nice staff and atmosphere. Food was okay but I don't think it was worth the price. I liked the birria tacos the most, the rest of the tacos were just alright. On a positive note, the tortilla tacos at least tasted like corn like they should. We also ordered "pollo milanesa" and we got some chicken strips that even tho were very tasty, had nothing to do with pollo milanesa, they looked more like Korean style chicken. It would be nice if the owners did some research before putting something on the menu to show some respect to other gastronomy cultures.

We have a fantastic meal at Madre on the docks. We tried quite a lot of the menu and everything was lovely. Huge fans of the birria tacos, pork belly and the vegetarian tacos (grilled cheese and mushroom). Would highly recommend.

Fantastic food, service was very good. Great if you can sit outside. Lookout for the service charge on the bill. We have been a couple of times and it's well worth a visit. Many thanks JEREMY

If you are a Mexican food fan then you won't be disappointed. Bring your appetite too. Nachos to start nearly finished us off. Sadly only took one pic as was in a food coma after eating. Will be going back, great attentive staff and great value. 👍

WORST MEXICAN FOOD HAVE EVER HAD! Steak tacos were raw and seriously smelt off and nachos were tasteless. Pretty sad when the best thing we ate were the (supposed to be) crispy potatoes... more like roast potatoes. Not sure how you get Mexican food wrong, but ruined our 26th anniversary dinner. Would not recommend. ~~~~~~~~ Replied to owners request for further communication, but no response still 2 weeks later. Seems there is no real desire to seek feedback or improve. Such a shame.

We went to Madre on a Friday evening without any reservations. Staff was friendly enough to accommodate us with a good table when we agreed to have it for the next hour. The food was delicious, margaritas amazing/ they’ve even accomplished to make mine as sour as possible. Overall, I would love to go back again, was a great dinner!

Lovely place, we're seated quite late which seemed no problem. Went with the recommended dishes from the waiter which were all great. Staff were very friendly and the food was good and reasonably priced. Great experience for our first time in Liverpool. Would highly recommend.

The food was really good and the drinks were decent but the price for what you got was bad we only got 2 tacos for the type we ordered. They also charged a 12.4% service fee the order was around £40 which was terrible it was not worth the price.

I love tacos. I don’t know why I’ve never been here before. I mean, I’ve been looking at this place for the last five years.. 🤔 Anyway, finally went in this evening and wow, such tacos. 🌮 Beautiful tacos de birria with perfectly seasoned broth and also superb baja fish tacos. I had two of each. I could have had four of each. Or six. They were that good. I chose restraint and now I have regret. Such is life. Tacos are not just for Tuesday. They are for Monday as well. They may also be for Wednesday. Let’s see. Restaurant itself is smaller inside than expected; brick-ceilinged in the way of the Albert Dock. Historic. Big outside area. I’d sit there if I had friends 😛 Range of things other than tacos, but honestly, all I want is tacos. Yum. Bring me more tacos. The beer was plentiful and it was Modelo. A Mexican classic. Thoroughly recommended. Definitely go here for tacos. If you have friends, bring them along. Get a sharing platter. All so good. Tacos, tacos, tacos…. 🌮🌮🌮

Had high expectations but unfortunately the food was average at best and the staff were not very friendly or helpful, such a shame! Plus a high service charge automatically added without warning.

We visited Madrid for my fiancés birthday. Started off well got a shot for his birthday but after that the food was coming out cold and distasteful to the point we had to go eat elsewhere after. On top of this it was even hard to get a staff members attention.

I got a plate of burnt cheese with no toppings. No lettuce. No sour cream. No guacamole. I took two bites of it and pushed it away from me. I'm American, so maybe the Mexican food in the UK isn't the same, but this was terrible. The service was good.

Food was lovely,service was normal, 12.5% service charge is very cheeky. Ruined the dining experience for two people.

I went here to have a cocktail, and cocktail only. I’m a pretty reasonable guy. This drink, some whiskey based cocktail, was so bitter and acidic it burned my throat. Currently sat in my hotel with a burning sensation in my mouth. Thanks. Staff were super nice and friendly. Atmosphere was on point. The drink however, absolutely sucked and I’m genuinely in pain.

Everything served was delicious, would certainly visit again and recommend. Attended with a party of 6, ordered the table sharer for £30pp, was certainly enough food!

The location is amazing and the food / cocktails were great. Unfortunately, the service was extremely slow from all staff - from being seated, to ordering, to getting the bill, to paying. But, we will be back because the food was lovely and the atmosphere / location.

Advertise food as gluten free but say they can't guarantee it's not cross contaminated. Staff did not understand that celiac disease is an auto immune disorder, they thought it was an allergy. Very scary. I'd advise people with celiac disease to give it a wide birth.

Honestly had better Mexican in regional Australia. And servings were small. Go elsewhere.

Really enjoyed Madre! We probably ordered a little too much but it was all really tasty. Tuna tostadas were probably the star of the show for me but the tacos were also delicious. We had the monkfish which was really good, so good we scoffed it down before I could take a photo! A great selection of margs too!! Service was fab. Our waitress (didn’t get her name!) was super friendly, very helpful. There was a slight hiccup that she sorted out straight away. Gorgeous interior, great location situated in the beautiful Liverpool docks. I think the only negative was that it was a little bit pricey but it was a lovely experience and will be back!

I do want to lead by saying my server tonight was very nice and this review is not directed at her. This is the third time I’ve come in and the second time I’ve had a negative experience. The first time, I ordered a drink at the bar and got tacos for takeaway- amazing, fast, delicious. The second time I came in and was seated outside (my choice) and ordered my drink. The girl who delivered the drink put her finger on the salt rim of the marg- I get it, that happens, but disappointed that I had to drink the marg from the other side. I sat outside for another 20 minutes and wasn’t checked on at all, had to move inside and try to flag down a waiter three times to ask for a second drink and the bill. The waitress spilled the drink when she put it down & there were no napkins out. Took another 15 minutes to get the bill. Was charged a service fee despite the lack of service I wanted to give it another try tonight because the first experience was so positive - I went in and confirmed I could order my food for takeaway and have a drink as I waited. Had my drink and then was told they couldn’t actually do takeaway. I asked to cancel as I had somewhere to be in 20 minutes and didn’t have the time to sit and eat - so they wasted perfectly good food (they were kind enough not to charge me at least). When I’d asked for the bill, they said my food was ready if I wanted it, which I would have loved but would have been completely late for my event. Not sure if the policy on takeaway has changed in the last few weeks, but it wasn’t a problem before. A bit miffed that I had a second bad experience and because of it will not have eaten today and won’t have a chance to eat until close to midnight. As good as the drinks and food here is, I will not be giving the restaurant aanother chance. I don’t like to write negative reviews but felt the need to warn anyone who’s might be in a similar boat to me

Small portions. The tacos were nothing special; tiny, soggy and you only get two. Nachos looked promising, but were nothing special. Was pricey for 5 of us, despite us having mains that were smaller than your average starter. The only upside was how lovely the staff were. But, do yourself a favour and go to Taco Bell instead.

We went for the "Madres table" option where a curated selection of dishes that our waiter chose for our particular tastes was brought out and everything was excellent. My favourite was the beef chin tacos and my husband's was the fish taco. Our waiter was lovely and we chatted to him for a while, the playlist was great and overall we had a lovely evening, would thoroughly recommend.

Mine and my partners experience at Madre was an overwhelmingly positive one, the food was absolutely outstanding, the beef was flavourful and the pork belly was amazing. The service we had was also 10/10 as a massive shout out goes to Sophie as she was great and gave us good advice and made us feel comfortable and welcome, thank you Sophie for making our stay a memorable one!

This place is a 10/10! Our evening was truly one of the best we’ve had in a while. Sophie was so lovely, attentive and welcoming she honestly made our evening. She mentioned to us that today was only her second shift working at Madre, and she went above and beyond to give us the best experience! Food was easily the best Mexican we ever had. The meat was so tender, the guacamole incredible and the vibes simply immaculate. HIGHLY recommend this place :)

This was the bring me what you like experience. You have to go with the flow, as the dishes arrived thick and fast. I particularly liked the fried chicken and the pork belly. It was all pretty good.

Meager attempt at mexican food... the chicharron skewer was halfway there. Tacos were lackluster... no homemade tortilla, single corn only, chochinita pork was flavorless and limp. A dusting of cilantro could hardly save it. Worse even was my dirty tea cup and plate, awful music (perhaps something culturally reminiscent of Mexico might be more wise?!) Waitstaff was attentive.

Booked here on a trip over from Ireland and had heard great things but very disappointed. Firstly the table was so sticky your skin stuck to it, the lady beside us had to ask for her table to be cleaned because it was so sticky. Ordered the chicken tacos and couldn't eat them they were disgusting, not sure if I just didn’t like the way they were made but I dry heaved at the smell of them. Fiancé also couldn’t eat them. Waiter didn’t check on us once or even ask us if everything was ok at the end when our plates were still full because we couldn’t eat anything. Wouldn’t go back.

Overall really good but why are the cauliflower tacos SO SPICY? Almost inedible they were so hot, and it's not marked on the menu. Drinks were really nice, and the atmosphere is great

Mexicans, run from this place. If you are looking for Mexican food, this is not the place to find it. Chorizo ​​is ground meat in green sauce. The marrow is over seasoned. The grills are not what one is used to seeing in Mexico. This is not a Mexican food.

Mexicans should refrain from going... :/ the best thing was the guacamole and it still wasn't worth it.

Such a vibrant spot - great food and excellent service. We shared a selection of tacos, starters, and wine and the bill was under £30 each which we were really pleasantly surprised with. I’m still dreaming of the birria tacos wow. Would definitely recommend and would return again in Liverpool.

Best food I’ve had! Had the birria tacos and the pork belly starter and potato starter, everything was amazing. i think the pork belly was the best thing i’ve ever eaten (and i was raised by 2 chefs). absolutely would recommend going here, perfect amount of food to feel full but not too stuffed, staff was friendly and service was super fast. i think everything was served with an hour. cost was well worth it. cosy and colourful atmosphere. will be apart of my liverpool traditions, and will recommend to anyone i know.

Food looks good but isn't ,tacos were bland and nothing special about the nachos , everything was way over priced for what we got , somehow got mains before the starters and got ignored by staff when trying to get the bill. Would not recommend

I’m sat in the restaurant, feeling like I had to leave this review because I’ve been blown away! Food is the best Mexican I’ve had either side of the pond. I’ve been raging at my GF about the 4 star reviews. I’m not normally an easy customer. Honestly, would rather come here with travel time than dine at many high end London eateries (tried Ting in the Shard last weekend - don’t waste your time, get on a train and come here, and it’ll be still be cheaper!) GF is GF and this was handled really well, very wide range of options. Very very happy camper, ordering my third drink and third course. Edit: I’ve been back three more times since first review. I absolutely stand by it. Honestly would visit Liverpool just to eat here. In danger of being boring - just come. Get the lamb, and the pork belly.

A group of seven of us arrived mid afternoon, ordered 2 or 3 dishes as recommended by the waiter. They arrived randomly and many were cold. The tacos at £9 for a pair were dry, warm, not hot and overpriced. We had 3 bottles of wine and a couple of beers and were horrified at the cost of £45 per person including a tip.

Underrated, in my opinion. The food was spot on, lots of great flavours, and a nice selection throughout the menu.. Very friendly and welcoming staff. The drink I had was incredible- it was a Mezcal based cocktail (I forgot the name). My only criticism would be that none of the dishes were particularly spicy, but that is just me being annoying.

Amazing food at Madre. The guys that waited on us were so passionate and knew their food so well. Great atmosphere and drinks. Worth getting the ‘Madre’s table’ tasting menu to have a bit of everything.

Popped in for a light bite and couple of drinks. The food was amazing, staff so efficient and friendly. The Spicy Margarita was a hit too!!!

Called in on a Saturday afternoon. It was the only place that had seating available. After visiting, we weren't really surprised. Food was pretty average, no atmosphere & waiting on staff were impatient & dismissive. Won't bother again

Lamb didn't have the tender texture tasted awful 🤮 salad nice was expensive for rubbish meat so cold had to keep our coats on most people did not going again disappointed ☹️

Now this place, this place is a bit special. This was our second visit, and once again, Madre did not disappoint. We had a selection of tacos to share, but the standouts by far were the Bahja Fish and the Birria. The latter of which were so good we ordered a second portion!! The marks were on point, and the service was a perfect balance of attentiveness without being overbearing. I honestly can not rate this place high enough.

Exciting menu with a good variety and the food is tasty. Would recommend the nachos and quesedilla de papa. Unfortunately, the service lacks any kind of enthusiasm.

Came in for a couple of drinks with the mrs, Norman and Adam (the two bartenders) took care of us all night. Highly recommend 👍

Decent food quality but was not entirely convinced by the menu and what was available. It was mostly tapas style and that may work for some but we just felt a little underwhelmed while leaving. Benefit of the doubt because it was our first visit and it is entirely possible that other dishes might have been better.

A very strong 4* here. Enjoyed this a lot! It's nice to try some Mexican food and it was a first time visiting Liverpool as well. The tacos were absolutely delightful! Such a solid mix, we shared the first four on the menu and the margaritas were amazing! Would highly recommend them as well. The staff were nice and friendly, we went when it was less busy and everyone else in there seemed to be enjoying themselves too. The location is right by the docks which again was a nice experience to see and visit, so it's a lovely location overall. Solid A**** LDT x

Went to his loverly restaurant for a bit lunch. Reasonably priced. Food was quite tasty, could have ate more. But me and the lady ended up running to the toilet afterwards, considering we only ate at this place the whole morning I cannot recommend this place. It’s a shame but I don’t like having to run to the toilet half an hour after eating.

Best Mexican food I have had in the UK. I am. American food snob from the US :) and I was impressed at the good taste and presentation.

This is a tourist trap. The margaritas are loaded with ice; it’s 5 sips. The management ADDS A 10% SERVICE AND DIDNT TELL ME. The food was actually pretty good.

Awful experience. Food came at different times and some cold. Overpriced and small portions. Some dishes tasted off, couldn’t recommend any less. Food bland and unseasoned.

Tacos were good, the chicharrones are NOT traditional ones so 10/10 would not recommend as it is disappointing. Was expecting like what my columbian friends mom would make like rendered pork skin but these are pork puffs like out of a bag with tajin seasoning put ontop. Margs were tasty. Vibes are nice.

Popped in for some Margarita's and Nachos spent the afternoon there 😁, great service and food. Probably the best Margarita's I've ever had 😉

If you are looking for a party this is the place. Music was a bit loud for me couldn't hear my husband very well. Limited selection of Mexican beers but the tequila selection was large. I can easily say it was the best birria I have had in the UK. Hope you like it spicy.

Came down last week from Edinburgh for a gig and stumbled upon this place while we were doing all the touristy things, the staff were lovely! and the venue itself was a great spot too! I keep telling my friends about the Nachos. They were the best ones I've ever had and the halloumi taco was amazing too. they should open one in Edinburgh! Honestly have the Nachos you won't be disappointed ❤️
