I booked this because my dad loves Alice in wonderland and looking through the reviews, photos and website I was extremely excited to take him here for his birthday because everything looked and sounded amazing. I had booked the Ace of spades which was canapés and cakes etc. Literally couldn't be the complete opposite to everything, I was so so upset and wanted to cry at how deceiving it was, my whole family was mortified. No displays in the windows, no flowers around the middle pole, no red sofas, barely any tables, small reserved sign that had the time for our tea crossed out and rewritten, the waitress was sitting down at a table on her phone and only got up when approached. A train station cafe would have had much more appeal and comfort than this place. The coffee was average and the mini canapés were cute but we had to turn down having the cakes because it was so disappointing.

We stopped in here for coffee/tea & cake whilst exploring a very busy Covent Garden. Its window display lured us in. The food & drink was delicious .... and the tea pot was quite quirky to use. The cafe is part of a theatre and it was all quite cute but despite it being themed ... it lacked a certain something to hold your interest once through the door. Staff were pleasant but didn't interact much. It was great to have somewhere to sit to have a quick break away from the crowds but probably won't revisit.

I booked a table here a few days before visiting London and was delighted when i received my confirmation through promptly, along with details of where Madd Hatters were located. I had never been to the cafe before and from the online menu i booked the ace of spades afternoon tea for 5.30pm, which was a perfect time as we had a pick of the tables. The email told me that the cafe was located in the foyer of the Arts Theatre and the times it could get busy with a show ending/starting, this was just a bonus for a fan of musical theatre as it all added to the excitement. The staff were really lovely, very welcoming and helpful too. I am not a tea drinker at all and asked if the tea included could be swapped for coffee, this was not a problem. However, after hearing the gentleman recommend some flavours of their speciality 'Tey Latte' to my friend i decided to brave it and try something new! I was not disappointed... i had the toffeenut tey latte and LOVED it! It was the first and best cup of tea i have ever had. The consistency is just like a milky latte, so as a coffee lover this may have tricked my taste buds but the flavour was just spot on and i can safely say i am a now a fan. I have a sweet tooth, so it was all about the cakes for me! The selection we were given were lovely and the generous slice of oreo cake defeated me and i could not finish it! The staff boxed my friends cake up to take away as she was too full to even start eating it. I cannot fault the staff or food presented. The location is a bonus and should not put you off. It's only a stones throw from Leicester Square tube station too. I would definitely visit again and if you are unsure of what to have definitely have a Tey Latte, it will not disappoint! Thank you for a lovely pre-theatre experience.

We went here for a friend's birthday and had a great time. The food was delicious - although you didn't get a lot of savoury sandwich type bits - and the staff were lovely and even gave us a drink on the house. It's a little hard to spot from the outside as its part of the American Idiot musical backstage? But the decorations are quirky and fun and the atmosphere was great.

It is really not madd hatters themed place and their afternoon tea is not anything to do with madd hatters but if you want a nice afternoon tea for £9 or £14 in london this is the place to go! Lovely cakes, you choose 1 each and we got brownies and a little tea cake a drink and canapes. They were small but nice, really liked the little ham a cheese toastie that was nice and warm. Would recommend it but not if you want a alice in wonderland experience!

A cute little theatre cafe in the foyer of the Arts Theatre right in the West End of London. The window display is a hint to what the service is like. Attention to detail, sweet and charming and of course artistic. I had an artisan coffee here this morning before start of rehearsals and the service was so warm, welcoming and charming - it really set me up for the day with the best of moods. Very warm, relaxed and friendly. Five stars.

Had a really lovely visit here today. We had booked online for an afternoon tea. Although we arrived early we were seated and served quickly. We were offered a choice from the many teas and the waiter helped us to make a selection (so many to choose from). The savoury selection and cakes were very nice and about half the price of comparable afternoon teas in the area. I understand this place can get busy so would definitely recommend booking. Staff were very friendly and helped make this a very enjoyable trip.

Booked for 4 people ( 2 adults/ 2 children)for afternoon tea one month before sitting ( Easter holidays) only to receive an email the day before saying they had to cancel the booking due to a workshop at the theatre. Sounds like a case of very poor management; ie.left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing!Unable to comment on food etc as never got to step inside the front door!If you book a table here I suggest you also have a Plan B incase they cancel on you last minute too!!

We weren't looking for anything special, we were passing and wandered in here to get out of the bustle and overcrowding of Chinese New Year in Soho. I wanted somewhere quiet to chat to my brother. This is just the not-very-impressive lobby of the arts theatre with a few tables in it. There was no theme that we noticed, the only connection with Alice in Wonderland would seem to be the name. Tea was alright, coffee was alright, cake was a bit tasteless and the service on the slow side. It wasn't outstanding, but it was very quiet as a show had just started. Toilets were okayish, three drinks and a cake came to £10 which is cheap for London. The cake was served on the cheapest kind of paper plate, the sort that bends double under the weight of the food. We weren't allowed any cutlery to eat it with, so my daughter got two wooden stirrers and hacked away at it, announcing that they were chopsticks. It worked out well as somewhere to get off the street and warm up, somewhere to have a chat without intrusive music or four thousand kinds of latte. It all reminded me of the sort of cafe you got in the late 1980's, when no one tried very hard and you weren't there for an 'experience'. That's actually quite refreshing, particularly in the West End. Still, it's an unlovely place and I wouldn't go out of my way to visit it again.

We booked an afternoon tea at Hatter's and with a great name like Madd Hatter's we were expecting a lot, but the decor doesn't live up to that name. The service was lacking and poor. There were dirty dishes on the tables around us and people behind the bar just hanging out when they could be clearing the dishes. That is really secondary when it comes to the food and drink. We ordered the Ace of Spades afternoon tea it comes with Any Tea / Lrg Tey Latte, Savoury Canapés, Slice of Cake / Cupcake, Mini Brownie Collection, Macaron Collection and cake bombs. We received an Earl Grey tea, which was good and a White Night Chocolate Tey Latte which was okay at the start, but about 1/3 way in I just couldn't drink anymore, but that was my personal taste and not anything Madd Hatter's did. The savoury canapes were very good, but very few especially compared to all the sweets that was given. The brownie collection was chocolate brownies with and without nuts. They were good ordinary brownies. I would not call it a collection. The macaron collection consisted of 2 mararons. 1 chocolate and 1 berry and they were sub par at best. The cake bombs were not cakes at all. The were a cookie base with overly sweet marshmallow fluff blob on top covered in a artificial tasting chocolate. Then comes the most disappointed cake and cupcake I have ever tasted. We got an red velvet cupcake and a orange citrus slice of cake. Both was so old and dry they were inedible. If we had tasted everything there I would have sent it all back, but we took most of it to go because the Tey Latte had put me off from the sweets. We throw most of it away. So dissapointing.

Discovered this little hidden gem after calling into the box office to buy tickets. Had an hour to kill before the show and needed to eat. The streets outside were crowded and manic and even the nearby over priced chain sandwich shop was busting at the seems. This little place was quiet, the staff were friendly, and I purchased a giant toasted sandwich and large frothy coffee still getting change from £7. My will power was strong enough to avoid the cakes, but they looked to die for.

Having read the reviews I was fully prepared for an average afternoon tea.On arrival as expected it was not as pretty or well laid out as you would like for an afternoon tea. Once the cakes and tey latte arrived I was pleasantly surprised, the cakes and sandwich was a very good standard, I had the red velvet cupcake which was delicious! But the best thing was the Tey Latte, I had the coconut one which was amazing, the flavour is so rich and I was left wanting another mug full!! If not for the layout and appearance I would definitely recommend the tey latte and cake!

I booked afternoon tea as a holiday treat for myself and 2 children. Wished I had checked out the reviews before I booked! The restaurant is in the lobby of the theatre, so any deliveries or people wishing to visit the box office are vying for attention alongside guests trying to enjoy any food or drink. For the duration of our visit (2.30pm), a delivery man was walking backwards and forwards pushing his trolley and then bumping down the stairs. People were queuing to book tickets and bumping into our table and chairs discussing which performance they wanted to see right next to us. We were also surrounded by piles of deliveries; drinks, handtowels etc. Not a nice atmosphere in which to sit and linger. The food was disappointing & very expensive for what it was - we had the Ace of spades set tea. The savoury canapes were a few bite size pieces, served with a cake of our choice each, plus some brownies and macaroons. The cake bombes were not available. The cup of tea was ok in a quirky cafetiere style pot. We left at the end feeling overloaded with chocolate but still hungry for something a bit more substantial. Not nearly as good as other afternoon teas available elsewhere. The toilet facilities were not nice.

Not usually someone to be negative about a place...Agree with previous comments about the location and interior. It is essentially a lobby so nothing special which was a shame when we arrived. Website builds the place up but reality doesn't match.Emailed ahead to pass on information about cheese allergy and received a pleasant response saying we would not have any cheese canapes. However arrived and all canapes contained cheese which meant I had a leave all the savoury options. Ordered drinks to be told later one of the flavours was no longer available. Again similar to a previous comment no 'cake bombs' were provided and we didn't bother asking.Toilets were really untidy with loo roll everywhere.Staff were quite pleasant and apologised for allergy problem but no alternatives offered though which I was surprised at in terms of service. I was given a £3 discount as a sorry. £14pp is definitely not worth it! What I had was worth half the price. My latte was tasty even though my original flavour wasn't available. If you're going for cake and tea I may recommend the place for taste. However for afternoon tea or 'madd hatter's' atmosphere I would not recommend.

Having booked online we were very impressed by the website and were excited to see the decor and atmosphere of the place. We were greatly disappointed. The location is a huge disappointment as I was expecting to be taken through the double doors and into the magical land that is Wonderland. Unfortunately, It is in the lobby of the Arts Theatre and so the place is cramped and untidy. When we visited it was swamped with children who were taking part in 'AnnieJr' - this meant that, even though we had reserved a table, there wasn't one available. Once sat down we were rudely asked what we wanted and given no explanation as to what we were entitled to, having pre-booked the Ace of Spades afternoon tea. Once we had ordered the tea came quickly and was lovely and fresh. However, the small canapés were dry and the cake hard at the edges. The quality suggested that they had been sitting out for some while. Our selection was also missing the cake bombs and so I cannot comment on them. The price is extortionate for what you get and the standard. Definitely won't be going here again!!

Booked online, the pictures and right up on the site looked really good, but really disappointed when we got there. We went for the ace of spades afternoon tea, which said it consisted of a drink, canapés, cake, brownies and chocolate bombs. The tea latte was fantastic but when we saw the afternoon tea it was a bit shocking, it said canapés but we got sandwiches, a tuna and sweet corn, chorizo and brie and a brie and tomato, all a bit crappy in cheap bread and finger marks all over. The cake itself looked reasonable and tasted okay apart from the fact we had a chunk missing out of one of the cakes. Then cake the mini brownies which were obviously the ones that you buy in the tubs from Sainsbury's and weren't really a selection. We were extremely disappointed as they were charging £14 per person. The service was really slow and they never asked us if everything was okay or came to check on us. The staff were more bothered about talking with friends instead of looking after customers. As other people have said its the foyer to the theatre which isn't great but that's our own fault for not checking first, however other people were coming in with food they'd bought from the super market and eating it there. Not really what you want to see!!!We refused to pay the full amount and they seemed shocked that we'd questioned things. Won't be going their again!!!! wasn't the best way to start our weekend away.....

We were going to see The Commitments, so decided to book here for an afternoon tea. We didn't hear back regarding the booking, but when we arrived there was a table available (in fact all the tables were!)Service was slow despite us being the only table there. When the canapés were served they were still partially frozen, and only a small amount per person for the money and whilst some of the cakes were nice, some really weren't very good at all. Not really an afternoon tea at all and I don't think it should be advertised as such! My advice, pay the £25 for afternoon tea for two next door at Patiserrie Valerie!! The place itself is lovely, even though it's in the lobby of a theatre, and the Tey Latte's were surprisingly nice but the food itself really left a lot to be desired, both in terms of quality and value for money.

My friend and I loved the atmosphere of the place and everywhere you look there is great attention to details particularly in the lights and the mini tree's that are shaped on the table. There is a box office in the cafe but you forget its there. We went in for afternoon tea and adviced not to by the staff as a show was going to start in the theatre in 20 minutes and it'll become extrememly busy. We had cupcakes instead, i had the red velvet which was disgusting, hard sponge round the outside, the cream was overpowering of cheese and i struggled to eat. The tea was lovely and i really liked their attention to detail, mainly the timer given to have the perfect brew. We stayed for 40 minutes and the place got no busier however glad we never spent the moneny on afternoon tea as we would have been unable to eat most of it. Lovely place but horrible food.

An inexpensive afternoon tea (£9) consisted of 4 triangular sandwiches, quite nicely prepared with crusts cut off and a variety of fillings and a slice of cake or tart and tea. The unusual bit was the tea, worth a visit for this alone. A contraption appeared for each of us full of our chosen tea leaves and an egg timer! The tea, once brewed, is then placed on top of glass where it pours through. All very ingenious and tasted delicious.

By the name, I was expecting an alice in Wonderland themed tea shop, but this really is not that at all... it is simply a coffee bar attached to the Ghost Stories theatre. My partner and I were given a gift for Brownies and Macaroons with a drink here, and chose to come on a Sunday Afternoon. When we first arrived we were a bit confused, the cafe itself is in the lobby of the Arts Theatre itself, with people coming in and out to buy tickets for shows. Also, the cafe had a 'shabby' look to it. But it wasn't the sort of 'cool hipster shabby chic' that can really look good, it was tired, worn and dirty. When we were presented with the cakes, they looked great... But that is all. Unfortunately, all the brownies were terribly dry. They lacked flavour. They were supposed to be different types of brownies, but no menu or card showing what they were was provided, and even so, there was little taste difference between them. The same goes for the macaroons, they were dry, stale, without that 'light/chew' you usually get with a decent macaroon Again, no card showing what the flavours were, and some had flavours we just couldn't work out!!Would I recommend it? No. It was really poor, I've been to far better cafe's and hotels which serve really decent cakes and afternoon teas in a much warmer, friendlier and comfortable environment.
