Mad Squirrel Brewery, Tap & Bottleshop in Dacorum

Wanted to leave a review of the St Albans excellent taproom from the brewery. Being a bit of a novice beer drinker i needed a bit of guidance on what and how much of each drink I should have ( one of the recommendations was a 9.7% stout that is apparently best drank in thirds if you can manage it!) by the wonderful team member Marcus behind the bar. A brilliant afternoon’s experience that I would really recommend if you’re looking for something local and a bit different.

What a bloody brilliant find ! I came here with my other half and had a splendid time ! There were only 2 members of staff but gosh they gave us service with absoloute excellence and they were super friendly !!! The pizza I had could've been better but my other half said his was superb !! The drinks were served at great temperature and there was plenty of choice. I was hoping that there would've been less children hanging around as it was a bar but obviously that cannot be helped. Thanks for a great time:)

We decided to have a dog walk to the Mad Squirrel Brewery. Lucky enough to be only 20 mins walk away. We fancied a craft beer and one of their delicious freshly made pizzas. Had a brilliant lazy afternoon drinking Sumo and Hopfest beer, delicious! The pizza was soooo gorgeous- meat feast one. I can highly recommend you try this. Overall a fab afternoon of good beer and pizza. Thank you for a great afternoon.

Absolutely amazing service from the staff at Mad Squirrel Tap & Bottle Shop. I live in Manchester, and my best friend who lives in Berkhamsted had a baby this morning - so I found this place online and dropped them a message - as a total long shot, to see if they could deliver some beers as a congratulations. Considering we’re in lockdown and it’s an Easter weekend, I assumed it was a non starter but worth asking the question. They replied straightaway, and the guy was incredible - went completely above and beyond, offering to drop them off himself on his way home. Less than half an hour later, my friend called me with a beer in hand. Blown away by this service, especially during these circumstances. Could not recommend higher. Thank you so, so much. A perfect example of why we should support local businesses, especially at this time!!

So nice to be able to sit in a brewery, out of town, enjoy really good beer and the pizza is spot on. The staff are always v friendly and will let you taste before you buy. The beer is excellent and the pizza is one of the best in the area

The beers are great and that is the main reason for a visit but the pizza is excellent. Cooked to perfection and a great combination of toppings.

Everyone just loves to help you out in the brewery, and also in the little shops located locally. Their selection is vast and varied, so there should be something there that you like. We did the tour and it was informative, however, the machines weren't on and it did become a little boring after a while. But as far as the people and the drinks go, it's really lovely.

I’ve been here a few times now and thoroughly enjoyed my visits. The beer is great with plenty of selection.

I arranged a visit to this quirky place with friends to surprise husband. Booked through Groupon, very reasonable offer. Also got further discount using mother's day code. We had a great tour of the brewery the lady was really informative and friendly. Had a variety of beers on tap and the pizzas were really delicious. Seating area was good in the sun. It was a little difficult to find but I just wasn't looking at the signs properly! Somebody needs to be designated driver as the area is quite rural or just get taxi. Definitely would recommend a visit!!

Bought a group in voucher and booked on line Couldn’t attend due to illness but spoke to them after many messages left and calls and they couldn’t change it so I had to speak to groupon Groupon said email them and get confirmation that it was ok to move my booking .. emailed and again no reply!... now my voucher has expired Awful service and very upset and angry about them just not caring or replying money well wasted and will not be drinking in my Berkhamsted shop again due to this

Excellent, really enjoyed it, great beers, excellent service, lovely hand made pizzas if you want to go with it. Everything was excellent. The owner spent time talking us through all the beers too. Will definitely come back

Hi ~ we visited the new Harpenden Branch of Mad Squirrel at 72 High Street, Harpenden and were really impressed with the decor, the food and especially the stout! The staff were really helpful and patient as there is a lot of choice. We had burger sliders, chips and a platter of meats - YUM! ~ The food was severed quickly and it was a real treat - thank you : ) we will return.

We ( my Stags and myself ) came here after some Quadbiking in the morning. It was a Saturday which is Pizza day at the Brewery! There is a small bar inside the brewery where you can sample the unique and beautiful beers, ales, stouts & Pilsners which we did with great enthusiasm! As planned we ordered some advertised Artisan Pizzas and they are a perfect compliment to the drinks on offer. The delicious pizzas are handmade to order and cooked in a stone based oven. Outside there are a few long tables with plenty of chairs. We were lucky enough to get a table looking out into a huge field as we drank and ate and drank and drank...you get the picture. The brewery is a great place to chill for the afternoon with a funky vibe and a great atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Now have a loyalty card, great brews and staff always friendly and helpful offering advice and drinks according to taste. Give them a try!
