The salad was so fresh, delicious and filling. The protein smoothie, vanilla, peanut and coconut was SO divine. Friendly staff. Will definitely be back when I’m next in Bournemouth.

We had the Oyster Mushroom Sandwich and the Power Bowl with Potato Wedges. All were delicious and well presented. We also had the Carrot Cake and the Chocolate Tart which were lovely too. Very good service and a nice ambiance.

INCREDIBLE! I'm not one for writing reviews, usually, but excellent cafes must be supported, and I have to say my breakfast was rich in flavour and better than any meaty breakfast I enjoyed when I was a carnivore. The sausages tasted meatier than meat sausages and the scrambled tofu egg was just amazing, as was everything else. I had to have 2 coffees because it's rare that I stumble upon a cafe where the coffee is made with real love. Please start your day well by giving it a visit. The cafe itself is dog friendly, which helps my furry son and me, greatly, and the atmosphere of the place is very relaxed, and the lady serving was utterly lovely and helpful. A great space to enjoy a good, slow start to the day. THANK YOU, Mad Cucumber!

We were big fans of Mad Cucumber and regular patrons for years but unfortunately this cafe has lost its shine. I'll start by saying that I know things are tough for small businesses - rising energy costs, rents etc. However, you still need to stay competitive. We would love to go to MC more but our visits have dwindled due to it no longer providing acceptable value for money. It costs more now for two of us to eat there than it used to cost for a family of three. In fact, the prices are now very close to those of Twelve a few doors down - which is a vegan restaurant (serving more high-end meals) compared to Mad Cucumber, which is a cafe. We periodically return, in the hope that things have improved - but each time we leave feeling hungry and short-changed. The last time we went we had a mac 'n Cheese which cost £9. But the portion size was teeny. It was almost starter-sized or what you'd give a young child. I had falafel with rice. A few tiny falafels and a teensy mound of rice (couldn't have been more than a spoonful or two). We literally finished eating in around eight minutes. There is no excuse for this. Rice and pasta are cheap, especially when bought wholesale. It doesn't cost a lot more to add a few more decent-sized spoonfuls. I actually replicated the Mac 'n Cheese myself for my family a few nights later, using vegan cheese, nooch, coconut milk, stock and pasta. The whole thing, for a family of three, cost under £6, and we had a huge serving each. When customers feel short-changed they go elsewhere. And I'm not sure the managers of MC are fully appreciating this. Since this place opened, most cafes and restaurants now offer vegan options. Many have dedicated vegan menus. You can now go to Cuckoos or Acado Lounge or Cozy Club or The Greenwood Tree in Lymington or The Little Teapot in Romsey or Bosconova and find a wider vegan selection than MC, a dedicated vegan eatery, now offers. And the prices and serving sizes are better in all those places. Vegan food is no longer hard to find and whereas MC used to provide something vegans might struggle to get elsewhere, they are now up against these other businesses who've widened their repertoire, whilst Mad's menu seems to have dwindled. In the past, there were hearty enchiladas, garlic bread etc. We would LOVE to become regulars again and give a dedicated vegan business our hard-earned cash. So I really hope the new management reads this review in the spirit in which it's intended. When customers speak, listen. Other people are clearly having the same issues with cost and serving size. I would hazard that it's more profitable to put a bit more on a plate than to not and lose custom. Widen your offerings too - do an all-day breakfast (that's really popular and other cafes do this. You shouldn't be able to get an all-day vegan breakfast in non-vegan cafes but not here). Do jacket potatoes, buddha bowls. Do a LARGE bowl of soup with a generous serving of roll. When you do something on toast or sourdough (like your jolly carrox which costs £8..20) give two slices of bread. £8.20 is a huge amount to pay for a single slice of bread with a bit of carrot on it. Put your shakes and iced coffees into slightly larger glasses. There are ways for restaurants to give a little more (which makes a big difference to the customer in terms of satisfaction) without it costing them a huge amount more. These tweaks would make a big difference. And if MC can't reduce their prices, then they need to make sure their servings and what they offer is worth what they're charging.

a delightful, natural-looking coffee shop. came in for a coffee and cake and was not dissapointed. i’d like to preface the fact that i am not vegan, but the banana bread was the best i have ever had. staff were welcoming and, as i mentioned previously, the place is very nicely decorated. thank you!

We didn’t know where to go for breakfast on a Saturday morning and stumbled across this place on Google Maps! So glad we did. The place is beautiful inside, staff were very friendly. The Mad Breakfast was amazing and so tasty. Very good prices too and huge portions! Shall be back!

I treated myself to a pay day lunch for one here and it was a lovely experience. I had a falafel bowl and a sparkling elderflower drink. The portion size was pretty big but I have a large appetite so it suited me well! :) The service was quick and friendly and the atmosphere was calm and cosy. I'd had a takeaway tofu wrap around 6 months before which was delicious but this was my first time having a sit down lunch - I will definitely be back. Thank you, Mad Cucumber!

This must be the best breakfast in Bournemouth ... And it's vegan. They make excellent coffee. I really like the porridge, but the pancakes are good too. Worth coming to Bournemouth for!

Be kind to everyone is printed on the wall. HA! That certainly starts with the humans handing you their money! The portions of food are minuscule and we felt royally shafted at extortionate prices. This was reinforced when we saw staff bring out their food bowls stuffed to the brim. If you can go when staff are eating you’ll see how much they have on their plates/bowls compared to you the paying customer. And the bowls are small don’t let the photos deceive you. The rice was so hot in places I’d swear it had been microwaved as it burnt my mouth. I’ve cooked rice in a rice cooker and have in the past used a saucepan to steam on the hob and I never got it that hot! There is no atmosphere in the place as the staff are not interested. Nobody came and asked how our meal was half way, we weren’t offered any more drinks and the place was quiet.

Food was tasty overall. Nice smoothies and milkshakes. We would have liked the staff to be a bit more smiley and welcoming.

Came with my kids and 3 other adults. 3 of the adults wanted avocado madness and they didn’t have so we ended up with wedges as no options for us to eat. The kids and one other adult had the pesto pasta and Mac n cheese kids meal but that amount was what my kids would have eaten as toddlers not 7 year old boys. I now need to go and cook them a second lunch.

Had breakfast here with the family on a recent visit to Bournemouth. The food was lovely but my açai bowl could have done with being a bit bigger as was still hungry!

Unacceptable. I visit here every time I go to Bournemouth for a sit down meal. Always great portion sizes. This time we had a take away and I took my package to the beach and opened it. Before I opened it, I wondered why the carton felt so light. I was shocked when I opened it. My friend looked at the portion size and said ‘That’s a toddler’s meal’. I paid £12 for a heaped tablespoon of rice, a tablespoon and half of curry and table spoon of salad. I joke not. I had to use bread we had brought with us to bulk up the food. Thinking back I should have taken it right back to the shop. They would never have served us that if we were sitting down. My husband was also disappointed with his portion and said it wasn’t worth the long walk from the beach. Shame as we were so looking forward to our visit

Fantastic vegan brunch! Very relaxed atmosphere, different from how I remember but definitely an upgrade. Highly recommend buying one of the cakes from next to the till as I brought one for my friend (who is not even vegan) and she loved it! Thank you.

Went for a vegan breakfast after reading other positive reviews. Ordered the Mad breakfast and was very happy with it plus it was the only breakfast where the hash browns where cooked to perfection and fluffy on the inside. Learnt that the place is in transition with the new owners who served me for me so it appears that the standards are going to remain high and is in good hands.

I am not a vegetarian, but I have to agree that the food here is delicious and I have visited on several occasions. The Power Bowl is a favourite, but the Baba Ganoush yesterday was a great change. The staff are very friendly and welcoming.

Visiting Bournemouth for the first time last weekend, I searched for somewhere Vegan for my first morning in the city and decided to check this place out. Well I'll tell you what... I've never felt so welcomed. The staff there were so friendly, warming and always with a smile on their face. I went Saturday and Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed their cooked breakfast and good coffee. I also had a wonderful fruit smoothy on the Saturday and although it was a one day only thing they were trying out (I'd recommend you keep making that one), they were willing to make me another one the next day, which was really wonderful of them! I'll be moving to Bournemouth next year and will definately be popping in as often as I can. Thank you all so much again for the service you gave.

Came here just looking for another restaurant to try on our 2 day trip to BournemouthNice interior, sat inside what looked like a bookshelf that had the shelves replaced with a table and chairs, pretty coolOrdered 2 chocolate and peanut butter milkshakes, (we thought) one of which didn’t arrive so we’re thinking they misheard us, which we didn’t correct because we were happy with our experience so far and they looked busy, the milkshake was very tastey, for food we ordered of the specials which was a Dahl of some kind and a marinated tofu salad, then coffees and cakes to finish Both mains were really tastey, the salad with the Dahl was fresh and the Dahl mild but tastey, the marinated tofu salad was shockingly nice, probably the best flavoured tofu I’ve had, the cappuccinos were better then any soy or coconut Milk cappuccinos I’ve had anywhere else, mainstream restaurants included, lost count of how many bad cappuccinos I’ve had lately with no foam but these were perfect, and the cheesecakes were really tastey and indulgent, I have no complaints, for everything we had it was £35 pounds so I would say good value not overpricedthe only mistake made was by us not being clear on saying TWO chocolate peanut butter milkshakes

My wife, daughter, and I, decided to make our first visit. My wife has recently joined me in the vegan lifestyle, and our carnivorous daughter was intrigued. We each had the vegan burger, a different smoothie and, being particularly hungry, I treated myself to the avocado boat. Firstly, we were greeted on our way in. Great start. The waitress was extremely friendly and helpful. The satisfaction continued. Within the first bite of her vegan burger, our daughter said “How can this be nicer than a beef burger? This tastes amazing. Dad, will you let me try your vegan burgers at home?”. Another convert in the making? Give me time. The smoothies were absolutely delicious. In fact, I was tempted to try a different blend. The avocado boat with sour dough bread and hummus was also rather tasty. What more can I say? Oh yes, the decor and ambience is very relaxing. 10 out of 10 guys. You’ll definitely see us again. We hope you have a wonderfully busy Summer!

I'm 11, and I'm also vegan. My parents come here all the time with me. The staff are so friendly, and I'm really fussy, so a big round of applause to them, because I haven't had a single one of their meals that I have not liked, now that's immpressive! It must be hard running a restuaraunt when a huge pandemic is going on, but they are still managing to serve amazing food. I really appreciate how much effort goes into making the food. It's a great place, which does not support animal abuse (everyone deserves to live a happy life, even animals, and yes they do have feelings, so totally go to Mad cucumber, instead of going to a local butchers.) Even if you're not vegan, it is still delicious in there, so I suggest it. You don't have to eat meat to enjoy a meal (in fact, I enjoy it WAY more being vegan.) Mad cucumber is really welcoming too.

Fabulous, fresh and nutritious food in comfy setting with friendly and helpful service. Honestly couldn’t have enjoyed lunch more. I had the Avocado boats with hummus on sourdough. My wife had the Moving Mountain burger. Plates full of delicious and nutritious food prepared and served with care and love. We both had mocha made with almond milk. Rich coffee and deep chocolatey goodness. Delicious This is one of the best meals I’ve had in years. So once lockdown eases get yourself to Bournemouth and eat here!!!

¡Mad Cucumber es el mejor! Siempre tengo ganas de visitar Bournemouth para poder comer aquí. El quiche es absolutamente para morirse, pero todo lo que he comido aquí ha sido genial. El tofu satay, los desayunos fritos e incluso el aderezo para ensaladas es increíble. Compré 4 piezas de su tarta de queso con frutos rojos la semana pasada porque era increíblemente bueno. El personal es muy amable y encantador, y las nuevas medidas covid implementadas hacen que comer dentro de la cafetería se sienta muy seguro. El café con leche matcha es diferente a cualquier otro que haya probado. ¡Comida vegana reconfortante absolutamente increíble! ¡Volveré tan a menudo como sea posible!

Cuando pregunté sobre el nivel de especias del chile de quinua, me dijeron "no picante", que no es una forma útil de describir un chile. Lo pedí de todos modos. ¡Tuve que repetir mi pedido 3 veces (comida y un té) para recibirlo correctamente!Era un nivel suave y cálido de especias y muy sabroso. No me gustaron especialmente las bolsas de té reutilizables de silicona, eco pero poco atractivas.El restaurante estaba muy ocupado, así que es popular, lo cual es una buena señal.Si el personal pudiera sonreír y saludar, obtendría una quinta estrella.

Mi esposo y yo nos detuvimos en el MC para almorzar. No somos veganos, pero nos gustaría probar algo diferente. No nos decepcionó. Tuve el chile de frijoles y quinua servido con batatas, mi marido tenía el quiche y ensalada. Ambos platos deliciosos. El batido de bayas fue increíble. Servicio amable. Muy contento de haber elegido este lugar. No vivimos localmente, pero definitivamente volveremos a visitarnos cuando estemos en el área. No solo para veganos, sino también para aquellos que quieren probar comida fresca y sabrosa.

Excelente sitio para comer y para pasar el rato tomando te o café. La comida esta buenísima, llevamos tres días aquí y hemos repetido dos veces y seguro que volveremos antes de irnos. Un trato excelente de sus trabajadores.

Have been visiting MC since it opened. Never disappointed with the food, and staff are always helpful and friendly. Bournemouth is lucky to have this.

Dios mío, tuvimos el aguacate, fue excelente, muy sabrosa comida y una buena cantidad de ensalada. El café también fue muy bueno. Las opciones aquí son geniales e incluso volvimos a desayunar pero dejaron de servir a las 11. 30, lo perdimos por 8 minutos. Toda la comida servida parecía fantástica. Definitivamente lo recomendaría y si volvemos a Bournemouth volveremos.

Visited here with family. The place was very busy but there were two empty tables needing clearing - we stood for a while waiting to be seated but the waitress ignored us so we sat ourselves. The menu is great. Lots of options and all very affordable. I chose the chili, my husband chose enchiladas and my mother in law chose the jackfruit. All presented very well and delicious. We also ordered a couple of sides which were great too. Only very minor qualm with food would be that they should give two slices of bread rather than one. Overall, a brilliant food experience. It makes its very easy to be vegan in Bournemouth knowing that this place exists. Will definitely return again soon but would like to see some form of greeting on arrival.

I must say I have had some great experiences at Mad Cucumber, however I have lost track of the number of times I have tried to visit and found it to be unexpectedly closed, which is hugely disappointing as we travel some way every time. This evening's visit was especially disappointing; I checked the opening times (stated they close at 9) AND the Facebook page to check for any unexpected changes- apparently nothing. However, when we arrived at 5.10, we placed our order only to be told that the kitchen would not be serving again until 6 due to a large function, and that they couldn't even put together a sandwich. This is especially stressful for me, as someone with a very disordered relationship with food and MC is the only place in town I feel comfortable eating. There is so much right about this PLACE, but as I am not prepared to call up and check I'll be served before every single visit, I'm afraid it's falling off my reliable favourites list.

I visited two days in row to try and sample as much as I could! Having worked my way through a lot on offer, all of it was truly amazing, and some of the best desserts I have ever had (even pre-vegan days). The atmosphere and ambience was also great, lots of seating, books and games available and very popular. But, the best part of all…those amazing fudgey, delicious brownies – if you are even close to this place it would worth a trip, purely for the brownies. They were just a little crispy on the outside, soft and squidgy in the middle…..all in all perfect, best brownies I have ever had in my life (and I consider myself an expert in the brownies department!). Only improvement would be to create a postal delivery service!!

I need to say that, this place is great! Food is amaizing, staff is very friendly and helpful -I came with litte baby ( I am breast feeding) I cannot eat a lot of things- but they have so many alternatives and they help you to choose right food.I could relax and enjoy with my baby girl rest of the afternoon there.Very recommended and I will back there again:)

A lovely slightly quirky vegan and veggie restaurant in Bournemouth. Great food, really good coffee and fantastic cake. Wonderful atmosphere in which to eat truly good vegan food.

My friends and I had lunch sat this lovely vegan cafe - highly recommended. The food was delicious, served promptly and the portions were good. The staff are friendly and helpful. I think even non vegans would find something to enjoy on the menu.

I've been a vegetarian for 20 years, and whilst I admire vegans, giving up dairy is a stretch too far for me at the moment, but so bored of meat eaters saying veggie/vegan food is dull.

Popped into the mad cucumber for an early dinner on Saturday and was not disappointed. The setting is nice and relaxed, the food delicious and service excellent. I went for the bean and quinoa chilli which was absolutely delicious, full of flavour and served with amazing sweet potato pieces. Had a chai latte as well which was really nice. Would definitely recommend to anyone who likes good, tasty food (not just vegans and veggies)

Came across this fab restaurant by accident with a hungry family. The menu offers a varied choice of options from a vegan fried breakfast to much more sophisticated offerings. Great gluten free dishes, packed with flavour too. The food was judged to be of such a high standard that even the non vegans vowed to return. Recommended to all :0)

Great selection of vegan food which tastes phenomenal, great vibe too. Chocolate milkshake is a must hit.

We both had the enchilada which was very good. We also had salted caramel cake which was delicious and you couldn't tell it was made without eggs.

Nice wholesome tasty vegan food in a chilled environment with a bit of a “hippy” vibe. Good choice of food, though lunch offers the most variety, breakfast and dinner menus are a little more limited. Child friendly and did some nice smoothies and a really really good oat chocolate milkshake! Tasty, filling food! Would visit again if back in Bournemouth.

There's a nice hippy vibe in the place. I've ordered the marinated tofu, which was delicious and the meal was very big, which I quite like. I would definitely recommend. Also they have lots of dietary options for people like me with a gluten and dairy intolerance.

This is my all-time favourite place. I wrote my dissertation in there and most of my play. The food is superb, the atmosphere is great and the cakes are mindblowing. I would sometimes drop by just to get a slice of cake to take home. Ok, who am I kidding? A few slices. The place is run by a lovely couple but don't cross them, I once saw the owner chasing a robber out with a broom, by no means an everyday occurrence. I watched this place grow over the three years I lived in Bournemouth, from a quirky cafe to a full-blown restaurant, a favourite amongst locals who only recently began dinner service. Everytime I think of Bournemouth, I think of them and it will be first on my bucket list when I go back.

this place is our absolute favourite. Everything we have eaten here was to our taste, prices are great and they are very flexible to adjust meals for children or if you have any allergy. Cake selections is the best and we never had brownies better than here. Number 1 cafe' in the UK!!

Thoroughly enjoyed our coffee’s and cake here, would highly recommend if you’re in the area. A great variety of food and good service!

Since going vegan 3 years ago, I have yet to find mint choc chip ice cream, it just doesn’t exist, so the milkshake they had as a special has literally made me life. It’s amazing that this place is so good for us!

Lunch, great service and lovely home made soup and slice of mouth-watering sourdough. Well done! We’ll be back

Very chilled cafe with lots to tempt on the menu. Lots of gf options although they didn't have gf bread. Food is fresh and help yourself to jam jars of water. Great if you're looking for something different with a hippy festival vibe.
