MacMillans Bar in Worthing

Can't believe that I haven't come here before! I've gone past this place soo many times and have never been in but after a recommendation from the guys at Heartbreaker we decided to give it a punt, and I'm so glad that we did! We had the crispy lamb which was a huge portion (even though it says small plate on the menu ha) - I've never had lamb like this before the green sauce, mint and pomegranate were just perfection. The wood fired prawns, whilst a little messy, were delicious with smoky nduja which we also soaked our crispy potatoes in. The charred hispi cabbage was also outstanding in a creamy miso butter. We thought we might order a few more dishes if we were still hungry but we were so full after this!!! We washed it down with a lovely bottle of Merlot but I definitely want to come back and try their cocktails. The vibe in the place is great. Both the staff who were working last night were exceptional, friendly, attentive, passionate and knowledgable. If you're debating about this place, stop, just go. Can't wait to come back in the future and eat my way through the menu!

The first time I was in this lovely bar it was amazingly good Asko I had the best cocktail and live music if want to go out don’t think too much go and have fun guys I recommend it to everyone 🙋🏻‍♀️

Went once for cocktails and we were underwhelmed. Didn't bother to leave a review. However, just went to their stall at the worthing food festival and bought cocktails. Chose two cocktails and watched them be made they didn't put any actual alcohol in. Were charging £7.50 for fruit juice. What a scam. Had actually planned to go there for some food. Definitely not going there now. Had fantastic experiences with all other food and drinks stalls however.

Last time I went I would give this place 11 out of 10. The steak type and weight on a board and brought to your table, and cooked it how you want. I knew the place was not cheap but I was happy to pay that price for myself and 3 guests. Yesterday I was a bit disappointed with the menu, 20 non steak items on the menu, the only steaks ribeye, sirloin and fillet this is not a steak restaurant now. These were set weight steaks on the menu, not a lot of choice. We were told the fillet would come out sliced like previously, it did not, it was still tender and melted in my mouth but a negative. This had the reputation as the best steak restaurant in Worthing, let’s be honest, lots of restaurants sell 3 types of steak the same. Bring back Steers!

Stupidly good We've not been for 10 years and the place is unrecognisable. Modern but still with the best steaks around We won't leave it that long again. If your on the fence I would highly recommend

I thoroughly recommend the fillet steak which I ordered & it was cooked to perfection and bursting 💥 with flavour. I teamed it with a pear & walnut salad, it didn't need a sauce to complete the dish because if the juices running out if the steak.

Food was good, very expensive for what you get, especially for the small plates. Chips were delicious. Cocktails were nice but not filled to the top. Customer service was excellent, very lovely and helpful. 2 cocktails, chips, and 2 small plates came to just over £50!

Totally overpriced for what you get. The pear salad was fine and the lamb starter was really yummy. We got sirloin steak as the ribeye was finished ( it was barely 6 pm so not sure why they were out of ribeye so early in the evening) my steak was okay but my husband's was chewy with lots of bits he couldn't eat. The service wasn't really helpful and the manager was borderlin-ing on being rude then she apologised and gave us 10% off.

Food was good, service excellent, however prices are too punchy. £10/100g Sirloin is way too much, especially when minimum weight is 500g. Temper expectation to increase footfall and you are on to a winner

Honestly incredible that such amazing food is available in such an unassuming place as Worthing. Service was great & I’ve already returned within a week of my first visit. Definitely try the crispy lamb, the Korean bbq chicken, the cabbage and the pork rib.

Superb food with great atmosphere, I think the cocktails are the best in worthing. The staff are helpful smiley and polite.

Great evening at Macmillans last night. The food is absolutely delicious, crispy chicken thighs were to die for and the fillet steak the best you can get...fact. Coleslaw (which was incredible) and crispy potatoes delicious too. Cocktails were fabulous as always.

Really disappointed in the food. I ordered a burger….. first one came and was raw in the middle and the second one I got was still a bit undercooked and so greasy the bun was totally inedible and soggy. Chips were skinny ones and had no flavour and were cold. Friends had the steaks which they did say were nice but not sure it’s worth the money as it’s all based on weight. Didn’t think the waitress was too bothered about the meal not being great and did charge us for the whole bill without any gesture of a free drink or something for the fact the burger was so disgusting and I had to sit with no food whilst my friends were eating theirs. Would not go back!

Never again I would rate 0 if I could such a disappointment was looking so forward to a lovely steak but only sell by the weight never heard anything like it . Had rib with side slaw served on the smallest plate going never again . While we was there thought we would treat ourselves with a cocktail ordered 2 strawberry daiquiris which arrived looking like pale tomatoe juice and tasted like neat lemon juice I wanted to complain but my partner didn't want me to make a scene money wasted don't waste your money !!

Great welcome and great service very relaxed and friendly.....and profession attention....and considering it was her first day..1st.class. Food was fantastic..as a party of 4 all will recomend. Suggest menu needs to be rearranged and simplified. Starters, steaks, sides on1 page Then main courses etc and Desserts on another...more customer friendly. Shall return....

We stopped for cocktails before going somewhere else for a meal and loved it! Really cool place with 2 lovely gardens and alternative decorations, great cocktails too! Wish we'd stayed longer!

Quite honestly the best scallops and steak I've ever had. New favourite, will definitely be returning.

Sam & his staff made our evening a fabulous experience. My sons 18th & the best steak he’s every had . Cocktails perfection Food presented beautifully & taste sensation . Looking forward to our next visit . Highly recommend.

Limited food. Served Sunday menu during the week. Steak house…. Hardly any steak available. Didn’t stay to eat as barely anything on menu. Ended up going to a restaurant down the road which was delicious.

Absolutely lovely Sunday lunch. The steaks were cooked perfectly, the sides were not just a bit part of the meal, they all really added to the experience. Will definitely return and thoroughly recommend MacMillans

3 of us went to dinner, ordered 3 steaks and sides and three drinks. No starters or deserts. We’re told that we had to work out the price of the steaks ourselves vs the ordered weight to ascertain a price for each meal. I just want to know what I’m paying straight off rather than having to get a calculator out a restaurant. The service was ok. The steak was nice ( nothing above the norm). Had to politely ask the staff to turn the music down 4 times as we couldn’t hear each other talk. Then the shocker - £208.00 for three steaks and sides!!! No wonder they don’t give you a price up front. I’ve had better elsewhere for much much less. Couldn’t afford to go ever back there again; it is, by far, the most I’ve ever paid for steak in my life.

Great place for giant steaks, nice chilled out atmosphere, attentative staff.

The BEST burger you'll ever have!!! So simple yet absolutely perfect. You feel disappointed when you've finished it as you just want it to go on forever. Would highly recommend

Service and food was exceptional. The server was very funny and charming and the party appreciated his jokes. He did his best to make sure we were happy with the service and food. He also gave excellent recommendations for order sizes based on our parties size and taste preferences. Everything was eaten and everyone was full. The food really stood out too. We enjoyed the Rib joint, chateaubriand and oysters. These were all excellent. The first bite of the rib joint left a few of the party speechless as it was so wonderful. The crunch on the potato and yorkshire puddings were also incredible. The cocktails were also excellent and some of the non drinkers in the group were even lured in to try some after having a taste of mine. I did not expect to be as impressed as I was with this place. I wish it had been there when I was growing up in Worthing, as I would have happily attended at every opportunity. My party don't usually enjoy beef as much as I do but they all asked if we could go again next time. Thank you so much for the wonderful food and experience!

Perfect! Absolutely banging! The steak was cooked to perfection, the sunday roast side plate was beautifully cooked, the cocktails were delicious and the service was excellent!! 10/10 all round! Could die happy now!

Not happy.... me and my partner decided to try macmillans for the first time and was extremely disappointed. We decided to have a light dinner, due to a heavy lunch, we chose fillet steak thinking it would be succulent and tender, but it was not! It was tough over cooked and luke warm. The atmosphere was ruined due to the company of unruly delinquents, being rude and loud. With our was meal coming to an end with the last kick in the teeth was a bill of 105 pounds for 1 steak, 1 side of potatoes, and 4 drinks!

Food was nice and complements to the chef , however service was very poor . Food came out all different times which meant it was abit cold . Was waiting ages to be served each time and had to keep going up to be waited on . Asked for the bill 4 times again waiting ages. Staff could of made more of an effort seeing as the money we spent on the food . Had to pay £31 tip which again if it was down to me I wouldn’t of paid as the service wasn’t up to that standard. Heard so many good things and was looking forward to the meal however unfortunately I will not be coming back here again .

Never again…… booked a table early on a Saturday evening 6.45 . Got put right by the bar. So dark could hardly read the menu. Ordered starters and mains. Told a 40 minute wait. Don’t mind that!! Time to enjoy a bottle of wine and a chat under the bloody disco ball. Waiter then informs us the starters and the mains are already at the same time🙄🙄. Not enough room on the postage stamp size table to put the food on say he stacks it on the bar…. I could go on but we will never go back.

Great cocktails, awesome espresso martini. Great staff too. Didn't eat, just drinks. I do know they use a really good local butcher though.

Although service is slow, the food made up for it. Went here for a birthday steak with all the Sunday trimmings. Good bottle of Malbec also. Although not the cheapest option in town, the steak is by far the best.

Good service but oh my!! 2 chips that basically feed one person, the staff will talk about you while in the kitchen as I did hear them! Won’t be coming again well over priced but like I say friendly people just poor management and overpriced badly!

Went last night,four of us ,ordered cocktails,order was wrong , cocktail waiter disputed it ,we ordered ribeye wasn't cooked how we ordered it and full of fat and couldn't cut through it,for the money it cost it didn't live up to the price,won't be returning

Truly the best steak in Sussex! Atmosphere is always chilled, the cocktails...artisan and all the sides are beautifully suited to the amazing cuts of beef. I come from Kansas, the heart of steak country and, to this day, nothing has beat the steaks at Macmillans. Consistency and quality at every turn. Best birthday dinner in recent memory. Thanks guys! #staysaucy

An intriguing interior, edging towards kitsch, combined with a "dive bar" atmosphere wouldn't normally be my type of place. However, the food was outstanding - very unusual to see steak sold by weight in this country but welcome. Each accompaniment had its own distinct taste from the tender-sweet pork rib to the ever-so-crispy roast potatoes and superb red peppers. Service was a little haphazard on occasion, the minimal choice of desserts was unanticipated, the lack of coffee heavily disappointing, and the bill was hefty. All faults were forgivable though, as we were heavily impressed with the main attraction - superlative steak house.

Nice venue, love the decor. but abit over rated. Would be nice to have a healthy option instead of fries and hash browns. Nice friendly waiter with glasses.

Went here with friends,as been here many times and never fails to disappoint. The place was packed,so there was a little wait for our food but that didn't bother us at all. The steaks were amazing along with the rest of the food. Service was good and the place had a good atmosphere. I visited the gents and was blown away by the decor,felt very trippy and had trouble finding the door to get out lol but that was probably down to the amount of alcohol I consumed. Macmillans is well worth a visit and will definitely be going back.

Great vibe, welcoming and great range of drinks. Sat at the bar, drank some whisky and had a lovely chat with two of the barmen who introduced me to Greek Mastic. Will definitely go again.

My new favourite place! I have never had better food ever!!! The steak was insane and everything else perfect. Vibe was chilled and our waitress was so lovely. I can’t wait to go again!

Lovely food! We had the steak. It was perfection 👌 We came on a Saturday evening and it was super busy. There was a large table of really loud guests but that's not the restaurants fault. I would come again definitely but I'd choose a quieter time so I could relax a little more.

Steak cooked unevenly which isn't great for a £70 steak, we were asked to move to a different table half way through the evening as we were 8 minutes late to a table where we were constantly lent over by bar staff.

I mean, it's so good, I almost feel like it wouldnt be fair on myself eating anywhere else now! Everything, food, drinks, service etc are great

Oh my, if you want somewhere special for sunday lunch, then this is the place. Great gravy, Yorkshire's, steaks and veg.......service is great too!!

We were really looking forward to eating here after trying the food at the Worthing and Brighton food festival. The restaurant is really well decorated and the food was superb. Sadly we chose a night where there was a large party of people who were screaming, shouting and swearing all night. We managed to change tables together with other diners. We spoke to the staff several times about the loudness but nothing was done. We very much enjoy going out and having fun but this was like eating in the middle of a night club. I’ve never experienced anything like this. We love the food but would think twice about coming back as the very noisy inconsiderate crowd totally ruined what was going to be a great experience. Do not sit at the back of the restaurant if you want half a chance of hearing each other talk.

Big thanks to Imogen for looking after us last night, she is incredible. Great food and drinks, only thing that spoiled the evening was a group of drunks near us but Imogen did her best to pacify them. X

We experienced macmillans at the preston park food festival, and we’re planning to visit their restaurant in Worthing for the full experience. Great bbq food and burgers. The potatoes were amazing!

Loved this 🤩. We visited Macmillans tonight and the vibe was so chil. The food was amazing. The quality of the steak was just amazing, cooked to perfection and cut like butter. The satay dish and wings were amazing. Will definitely have that again. The staff are so friendly and attentive. Thanks for a great night. 👍

Great cocktails, great food. Inventive bbq style small plates, best pork rib I've had outside London. Steaks on the pricey side but very good cuts cooked perfectly.

Brilliant food. Comments include "best steak I've ever had" and even "best burger I've ever had". And do NOT miss the bone marrow and green peppercorn sauce, everybody's dipping it!

Atmosphere is more like a bar than a restaurant, far too loud. The service really is poor for the money your paying, cocktails again were average, only positive was the food, steak was fantastic, but then your paying £40 so it should be!

Was supposed to be a lovely birthday meal for my son, we were kept waiting for our food for a looooong time. Food was average . Why can't you anticipate putting plates on the table if people are sharing food? Slow service and even when the bill arrived the waitress spilled all of my wine on me. No reduction on the bill for that. Pathetic !

Finally found it open and we went in with a friend. Reminded me of slightly seedy upstairs bars in Soho or Notting Hill. But when the food came ...!! I think my ribeye was the best steak I've ever had - and so did our friend, who had one too. Truly excellent food and friendly service. The single reason for not giving 5 stars is my wife is wheelchair bound and Macmillan's has no disabled facilities and lavatories on the first floor..

A steak worthy of best of the best of the best. I'm 56, I'm from the mid-west of America. I have had my share of steaks. I have had many very good steaks but this steak was among the best. Cote de boeuf like no other. The char from the grill was perfectly infused throughout without being too overwhelming. The seasoning was perfect and the temperature was the perfect medium rare we requested. It doesn't stop there. The triple cooked chips were perfect and the kale and pecorino salad with pomegranate was the perfect guest to the party. We chose a Spanish wine that was very good...mid range and it worked well with the steak.

Splendid Steak, no one does it better. Staff & service we're excellent. Highly recommended.

Absolutely amazing night! The food was sublime. We decided to share the Korean barbeque pork, chargrilled prawns and tomatoes salad with mint along with a fillet, everything was 5* and the steak was the best we've ever had. You certainly know there's alcohol in the cocktails too! The ambience was perfect, would definitely be back, loved it!

Steak severed on cold plates, asked if they always do this and was told this was due to the fact they were outside cooking the food. The rare Chateaubriand ended up blue with no sear and no crust, for £55 this isn't good enough.

Who knows if they will honour your booking? They didnt with ours. Despite phoning 5 weeks ago and dropping in f2f at lunchtime today to double check our booking was inside, they cancelled us this afternoon. Baby sitter booked and everything. Awful customer service. Fuming. Such a shame too after supporting them through the last year.

What a gem. We were here today and can’t wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. Although it has a great selection of steaks and meats, one of our party was vegetarian and they had one of the best meals they ever had ( Aubergine plate). The service is excellent too. And the soundtrack! highly recommend this restaurant

I am very disappointed with the poor conduct and the professional standards shown by the two young male bar staff. We were sat by the high top bar were there was a mirror. My partner could see them pointing towards us and laughing in the mirror. We asked to leave and collected our coats, the women who spoke to us apologised on their behalf. It's a shame really, when some staff members were really polite and professional. It must be very embarrassing for your business.

Went today for a date night. Never disappoints. Staff were super lovely - we were served by 'Tom'. Cocktails were perfection and the ambience is just divine for a little place in worthing. Didn't know they were still doing EOTHO either so that was a nice surprise ;) Sadly no photos, too busy enjoying!

Even though it was the day before lockdown and they were running out of some food items on the menu I had a really good meal. The filet steak was the best steak I have had in a very long time. Cooked to perfection. It is very pricey, for 3 of us our meal came to £168.+. And it is a very loud music environment. More of a pub/club than a restaurant but the food is outstanding. Great staff. Would have been 5 stars if not for the noise.

Mixed feelings about Macmillans. It took about 10 mins to be asked for a drink and once ordered it took 15 mins for the drinks to come, we could see the drinks sitting on the bar waiting to be served. The music was so loud we almost had to shout at each other to be heard. The service was generally poor and the staff seem disinterested, when paying a reasonable price for the food and drinks you would expect the service to be welcoming and efficient, this was unfortunately not the case. The redeeming feature of the visit was the food itself. The steak was beautifully cooked and all sides dishes were delecious. On reflection I can’t see myself heading back to Macmillans, which is a shame. If there were a more positive welcoming efficient attitude from the waiting staff and were the music turned down a little you could vastly improve the experience as the food is excellent.

Unreal food. These guys have got it nailed. Had the Sirloin, Slaw, Triple cooked chips and the Mac'n'cheese 👌🏻. Good cocktails too. Treat yourself.

Amazing food, really good steaks, but unfortunately bartenders don't know how to make easy old fashioned, mine was plane whisky on ice. I hope you guys gonna make it better.
