Thank you for making our birthday celebrations so special for our friends 60th . The food , prosecco and personnel service was amazing and we can't thank you enough for your kindness .

Was brilliant for my first time there 100% worth it

This is a lovely pub for a short snack like a brunch with a glass of coke. It's certainly worth another visit as it by the main bus stop in Taunton, Somerset. I visited again today (22/5/23) and had a nice chicken club sandwich with chips and a cool glass of coca-cola. Will visit again and we'll recommended too. I visited today after a year away and nothing has really changed but great service from all the staff. I paid a return visit to Mackenzies again today before heading home and had a lovely lunch while waiting for a bus back home. Great service once again by all the staff even though it was very quiet and I was the only person there.

Beautiful place, music was very loud though. I have no clue why it wasn't busy yesterday evening when my partner and I visited. We had lovely meals which were made quickly and tasted great.

This place was absolutely great I just came out I ordered and within less than 5 minutes my food was at my table. The food was very hot still showing how it was freshly made and it was absolutely delicious I had the firehouse burger and my partner had the cajun chicken burger which just melted in your mouth definitely would go back.

Went on bank holiday Monday lunchtime very quiet. My wife had chicken fajitas, came with 5 small wraps, and a very generous portion of fajitas good value. I had a ranch burger again very nice, I would say the fries were a little greasey for me. Lovely location would recommend

Near empty early on a cold Friday evening and back of advertised Happy Hour ales. 2 4 1 burgers deal made the food palatable. Not brilliant.

First time since this pub was re-furbished. I only had a drink, but i will be back for food. Especially Tapas Tuesday. Nice interior, staff were really great.

Was incredibly disappointed with the service when it came to potentially booking a private function over the phone. We have a member of our family who is bound to a wheelchair due to being paralysed after an incredibly traumatic event. We were looking to book a private function for a birthday and when we rang to ask if they had wheelchair accessibility (lift, as I know the functions are held upstairs) We where told by a young lady “unfortunately we do not have a lift” then in the background I over heard a man say “we do however have some strong members of the team that could carry them up the stairs” To which he then laughed and played it off as a joke. Fair enough the venue doesn’t have access for disabled people. However to make a joke and laugh out of it felt incredibly unfair, unnecessary and so unprofessional. We will not be booking with Mackenzies. Not even for the reason they don’t have the access but more for the reason they were completely inconsiderate and rude. Anyone with a family member who is limited to access due to a disability will understand the struggle to book places for meals, events, parties ect. However most places are usually pretty helpful… but this service was incredibly upsetting and i really hope this doesn’t happen again to anyone else in a similar position. Unimpressed is a understatement

We hired out the upstairs venue last night for a special birthday. It was a great room and large enough to cater for our large party and band. The staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble when getting everything ready and decorated the day of the party. We couldn’t of picked a better venue. Everything was perfect and everyone that came said they enjoyed everything about it and what a great place for a party. Big thanks again to all the staff that made a special birthday a memorable one. Definitely recommend this venue to anyone looking for a great party place.

Great service. Good and tasty food. And great portions too!!! But the music is little too loud inside. But great variety of menu to offer and order. But!!! We always prefer to sit outside, as the music is so too loud inside to have a conversation!! Otherwise this is a perfect pub In Taunton!!! ❤️ Please lower the volume of music inside in weekdays!! 🙏

We hired up stair for our belated wedding reception! It has everything you need up there that you don’t really need to come down stair, the place is kinda perfect for most people’s needs! Manager Anthony and his staff couldn’t have been more helpful so thank you, and another big thank to our bar staff.. friendly and professional.

Lovely pub but drinks expensive.

The food is OK, its a little over priced for the quality, but when you consider the pizza is large enough to feed two and the other portions are a good size it all adds up to be OK. The atmosphere is that of a night time drinking venue that settles for a restaurant during the day, its neither fun, romantic or interesting. As for service the people here are present but I wouldn't say friendly and there was a lot of stuff they couldn't provide for one reason or another.

Great place for a works Christmas meal.

A Saturday breakfast trip. Nothing wrong with the place, just ok in all regards. More of a night place for younger folk I'd hazard a guess at. Wasn't expensive but more functional than a service venue. Felt a tad underwhelmed.

Had a function in their top room recently for over 50 of us. Louise and Tony could not have been more accommodating to my requests and everything went so well, would happily recommend this venue to anyone needing to hold a party/function

It's ok. I ordered a £10 drink and it came with a fruit fly. Seems like expensive drinks. It is maybe a step up from spoons. Good location though.

We had our wedding reception in the bar and seating area , best thing we did with such a fantastic atmosphere ,staff were exceptional, food amazing , all guests had a fantastic time . Thank you to the staff and management for everything

Had a lovely bottomless brunch with friends. Service was great, lots of customers enjoying themselves made for a super atmosphere. Burgers were lovely, recommend the Dune bug cocktail jug, which we topped up with our bottle of prosecco. Will definitely visit again.

Had a lunch time steak deal with the family under £9 for one of the tastiest steaks I’ve eaten cooked to perfection and pepper sauce in that price too amazing .

Had food and drink on Saturday the 1st July. We were in a group of 8 and sat outside as it was a sunny day. Service at ba very was good and drinks reasonably priced, the food was ok, however the chips were terrible.. while sat out side a staff member parked his car outside pub on public walking area, where kids were playing (silver ish VW) and both times the used car in a short space of time he wheel spun out the public area at speed despite kids playing on scooters. 2nd time he came back at speed and skidded to a stop he was asked as he walked back into pub to moderate his driving to which he became abusive, and one of our party followed him into bar area and challenged him where bar staff got involved very poor behaviour. Point to note both taps in gents toilets were broken!.

We went as a bridal party and had the bottomless brunch. The choice of food was extremely limited!! We were not impressed at all. When you're going to offer bottomless Cocktails I would expect a similar thing with the food. It would have been better to have some kind of buffet. Cocktails were nice, but a massive difference between how each jug was made up. I had Pimm's and it was incredibly weak. My friend had Pimm's and it nearly took her head off!! Also, the tap in the disabled toilet didn't work and there were no other accessable facilities.

Everytime I’ve come here, the staff are amazing, so kind and friendly, great to have a chat with, I think the manager is the best aswell

Great place to stop and have brunch or lunch with friends and family. It's also ideal as it's right opposite where all the buses stop now in Castle Way. Had lunch again today(24/4/2023) always very good service when waiting for a bus back home. Today I suggested a change of venue from the Hangout bar to Mackenzies Bar and Kitchen to a old shop reunion group of people so we went and had coffee and a catch up. I visited once again and had a nice light snack before heading home as Mackenzies Bar is directly opposite the main bus stop. Would recommend this lovely place to anyone who visits Taunton and it's also within reach of the main museum and the main hotel in Taunton called The Castle Hotel.

A very nice gastro pub, it's a nice space and environment. There's a good selection of pub foods and beers, although the drinks are a little expensive. They do a 15% discount for stagecoach travellers. It's in a great location for bus travellers and the castle green is gorgeous in the summer.

We hired the upstairs room for our wedding party and had such an amazing time. Anthony was so good helping us plan the details from the start and suggesting various drinks/food options. On the day Anthony and his team were excellent making sure all guests got welcome drinks and then providing impeccable bar service from 4pm past midnight! They worked so hard and everyone commented how great they were. Our wedding party was amazing and we all had such a good time. Thanks again. Would totally recommend. Emma & Neil 👍🏼

Was amazing time! Food was lovely and so were the cocktails! All staff were so friendly and had a nice conversation with the ones behind bar!

Our experience didn’t start well. Rang to pre-book table for four people for lunch but member of staff didn’t have access to booking info so took details and said manager would ring next day when he was in. There was no phone call the next day! I rang again later to check if a table would be available and was told there would be no problem. We had decided to try the tapas menu and ordered eight dishes and a bottle of Prosecco. Two of the glasses given to us still had lipstick marks on the rim and the other two didn’t look very clean. They were replaced with clean ones. This was a Thursday lunchtime and only one other table occupied by people having drinks. By now we were beginning to think we’d made a mistake! However when the dishes arrived we were absolutely delighted by the quality and the freshness of the food. Throughout our time there the staff, barman and the waitress, were delightful, polite and friendly. The chef is obviously top rate as every tapas dish we ordered was perfect. The venue itself is really lovely and the toilets were very clean. It was our first visit but I’m sure we shall go back in the not too distant future. Four stars given but would have been five if not for the ‘hiccups’ mentioned.

Found this gem, whilst waiting for the bus. Had a delicious Steak cooked to perfection. Will be visiting again 👍

I usually like the food this place serves but the eggs royal that I ate at this establishment had too much vinegar in the hollandaise sauce that I could clearly taste plus the poached eggs were overdone to my disappointment

Excellent service and a good interior. In good weather the seats by the outside tables are really popular.

Amazing food and a great run pub

Food was good quality but small portions.

Visited last Saturday around 5:30pm before a theatre trip. The food was awful. I had a steak which was so tough I couldn't eat it. My husband had the chicken which was very overcooked it was hard and dry. No one came to ask if everything was OK despite the fact it wasn't busy. When the plates were collected I did let them know about the steak and I was told the chef would be advised. If we hadn't already paid I would have requested a refund as it was so bad but due to time restrictions we didn't have time to stay and make a fuss. Such a shame as a nice pub but won't be eating here again.

My son and I only popped in for a quick drink after shopping in town. The service was quick and friendly and the drinks were of a good quality.

I booked a Christmas Eve meal for 16 people including young Children, cannot recommend or praise Mackenzies enough for facilitating us all , from sorting the table to ordering all the different food and many drinks , we all had a fantastic time and my fajitas were amazing !!! Highly recommend this fantastic bar and their staff were all brilliant .

Great looking pub good staff but must have been chefs nite off. Christmas meal was bland and boring to look at all 3 courses and main was stone cold and the veg had been cooked to within an inch if its life. Will go for a drink but eat elsewhere.

Tori and Cam were amazing! They looked after us so well. We emailed in and asked if we could book the bottomless brunch a little later when we reserved our table and they were very accommodating. I personally had the avocado toast and it was AMAZING! Like this is my go to break I have everywhere and this was the best I’ve had! Lovely location, live band we're great but....food was awful. Ordered 4 Steaks, 2 with chips and 2 with salad. When they arrived at the table, the 2 salad ones came with no salad or any offer of an alternative. Apparently they had run out of salad unless we were having a burger! One of the steaks was tough as old boots so was exchanged for a chicken breast. It came out as dry as leather. Wouldn't eat there again

Will never go in here again, absolutely disgraceful when you end up paying ten pound eighty for a pint of Fosters and a pint of Guinness extra cold. I could understand it was so quiet whilst we were there, especially at those prices.

Really enjoyed the food. The tapas selection was not only extensive, it was very tasty. We went late afternoon on a sunny Saturday, which meant the venue was busy and vibrant. It won't break the bank either.

One of the team members with scars on his face was incredibly rude to us.

It's just a bit soulless, really. I doubt I will change this, as it's based on many visits: I have to come weekly for quite a while, but thanks for your reply.

£30 for 2 glasses of wine, one G&T and 2 soft drinks!! Also, as we were attending a party upstairs, we weren't 'allowed' downstairs. I won't be going back.
