Deckhouse in Taunton Deane

I had lunch here with my mum, and it was lovely. The pasta dish was sensational; beautifully cooked and just the right amount. The vegetarian brunch was also delicious, and so fresh. The staff were lovely; very friendly and attentive. We will be back soon.

Hands down my favourite place to go when I visit Taunton. It’s decorated lovely and had a nice atmosphere but the main attraction is how impeccable the service is here. The staff are absolutely incredibly and deserve a raise because they make the experience extremely inviting, friendly and accommodating.

Came today with familt. Great coffee. I had a bear in the milk Brunch was massibe and great value. My dog loved tje redrursnt and treat!

My 2nd visit since it had opened, lovely building and I like the decor, food just doesn’t stand up to the price. I had fish and chips, neither was crispy. You could bend the chips in half without snapping and they tasted like they had been cooked in old oil. The mushy peas were khaki in colour rather than a bright pea green as you would expect from freshly made. I have eaten the same dish at other local establishments which cost a couple of pounds more but I’m happy to pay as the difference in flavour of freshly cooked produce is totally worth it !

We came on Saturday for brunch and ordered two rounds of hazelnut coffee along with two English breakfast platters, one being vegetarian. The service is great, the ambiance is nice, but there are limited vegetarian options. The coffee was exceptional— rich, smooth, and perfectly brewed, making it the highlight of our meal.

Accommodating staff leads to a lovely meal, we'll be back! The food service side was full up on this particular day, but the bar staff was willing and had us sit in their side to be served. The atmosphere was a good mix of appealing energy with just a little of home like cozy. As for the food, it was delicious! The tapas variety is a great bit tbh, you can choose a few to share and they are good size. The parmesan tossed chips were hugely moreish and the eggs royal was a rich feeling brunch along side our tapas. It was a great visit and stop in!

Had lovely lunch with friends. Friendly staff including Joe who got our table sorted. Lovely waitress Kate looked after us and took order. Food delivered promptly and was really tasty. I had delicious salad and halloumi and flatbreads and was well priced. I was so pleased we had come here and will definitely come again,

The team was absolutely wonderful and welcoming. Super prompt at seating and taking my order aswell as punctual at delivery. Lovely atmosphere, throughly enjoyed my time here and can't wait to come back again.

Just walked out of restaurant after being left without service for 12 minutes. Staff walking around not paying any attention to us whilst serving other people. Totally ridiculous. Wont be back.

We had a brilliant night. The food was delicious and the wine was really good too. The staff were all really sweet and couldn’t do enough to make sure we all had fun. On the evening we were there, they had a live singer who was amazing and really got the party started! I can’t wait to go back!

Great food, great service, great decor, a nice evening

Prompt service initially. Didn't enjoy my brunch dish, very difficult to eat the way it was presented, and egg undercooked (partners poached egg wasn't even a little bit runny though!). Ate less than half my meal, no one asked how it was at all through the meal, at the collection of the dishes, or the paying of the bill. No one said goodbye on leaving, even though a few stood at the bar. Won't be returning or recommending. Shame as the inside is totally my vibe.

Ufortunately was really ill after eating lunch here. Really disappointed as had eaten there before and not had a problem.

Brunch is something worth having here.

The wine and tapas evening on 19th September was a fabulous experience. Good wine, tasty tapas and excellent company.

Nice place, but please be very aware when ordering wine! £14 for a glass of white wine is extortionate!!!!! We paid £24 for 2 glasses of wine, we visit London every couple of months and have never paid that there, which you probably would accept! Shame because we have told all our friends how nice it was but now we'll have to warn then!

We popped in whilst passing for brunch. The decor and atmosphere were both great. Staff were friendly and attentive. The food was definitely the highlight though. The veggie brunch was perfectly cooked, poached eggs with runny yokes, amazing potatoe rosti. We'll definitely visit again.

We came along to the Deckhouse into for a bottomless brunch. We were very impressed with the whole experience. The food was lovely, the drinks were delicious (and plentiful!) and the server - I believe his name was Joe(?) - was wonderful. Would highly recommend :)

Have been many time now and always have had good service & the food has always been good. Staff are very friendly. Will be going again. They also have a very good wine selection but it's not cheap. It's in a very good location in the town centre. Also it is comfortable inside.

A great surprise... we didn't really want the 'standard' junk food and stumbled across this place. Comfortable and great for families or a relaxing meal. We returned a couple of days later.

The food, service and atmosphere here are great. We came here on a Sunday for a late breakfast and were greeted warmly by the staff. We ordered 2 lattes and 2 breakfast brunches (pictured), the coffee was excellent and the breakfast was superb. The venue is really nicely decorated and very clean. The staff were attentive and very polite. The cost was on the high side, but i think it was worth it. I will definitely be going back.

Popped in for a light bite, had tapas prawns and chicken. Friendly waiter, only gripe was that the server didn't return with our plain mayo. Will definitely go again next time I'm in Taunton.

Excellent brunch and lunch location. Coffee is well brewed, food is very tasty, especially the chicken and eggs brunch with a tangy kimchi slaw and potato rosti. Lovely and friendly service plus happily dog friendly. We recommend and will be returning soon when next passing through Taunton. This is a good reason to jump off the durge of the M5 and take a break.

This was the best chicken burger that I have ever eaten. The staff were polite and very useful when telling me about the menu. It had a great environment and was a well designed interior. Would recommend to anyone and will be returning shortly!

While the food (I had Eggs Royale) was lovely, it was the amazing staff who made the experience at Deckhouse extra special. We were warmly greeted at the front door, and our waiter, Joe, was brilliant. Amiable and professional, there was something extra special about this young man and his desire to please. We felt that he really cared about our dining experience and wanted to make it memorable. He succeeded. I can't praise him enough. A really terrific waiter!

Great place. Very pleasant staff. Attentive without being over the top. A tad expensive but worth it. You could easily pay the same for a poorer experience regarding food, ambiance & staff.

I enjoyed a wonderful evening at The Deckhouse with my boyfriend. As a birthday treat we attended their Wine Tasting event. It was well planned and educational and lots of fun. We even went home with a couple of bottles of our favourite wine to enjoy with family. Tapas for the night was also delicious. Thank you.

Great wine and wonderful tapas Deckhouse Taunton lost its way for a while but the new menu, the staff and a willingness to understand what’s gone wrong means it’s yet again a great place to visit Give it a go

Had the most amazing fish pie definitely cooked fresh can’t wait to go again. It’s a shame the service charge was put on the bill I would have probably tipped more than they charged but it annoyed me that some places feel the need to do this do this, I’m sure they would get more if they didn’t as the service was brilliant.

We only popped in for a drink. Nice modern place but the drinks were overpriced and then they added a service charge on top too! Don’t think I’ve ever paid a service charge for a drink before. We were only there about 20 minutes. Leaving a tip should be a choice not forced.

Nice atmospherics in a modern nouveau bistro. Good coffee, slightly average food (for the price) but a very comfortable all round experience.

I recently enjoyed a wonderful bottomless brunch at The Deckhouse. The food and drinks were delicious, and the staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. My partner and I had a lovely date and would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a great brunch experience.

Intended to get lunch with a colleague. We were told to sit wherever we liked and ordered drinks while looking at the menu. The drinks came but nobody ever came back to take our food order - really poor service and no atmosphere to speak of.

A lovely spot for brunch. Staff were friendly and accommodating, very receptive to me requesting a swap in/out of ingredients for my dish. I ordered the Shakshuka - it was delicious! A little bit of a spice kick but I have a very mild palate! I would highly recommend, and I will be back for sure.

Deckhouse is a fantastic addition to Taunton’s restaurant scene. We came in for dinner on a Friday night and had a great experience. The charred chicken is superb and I can really recommend the choc mousse for afters. My biggest compliment is reserved for the service - the whole team was really friendly and welcoming. Joe, in particular, really stood out - he was very knowledgable about the wine list and made sure we were well looked-after. We’ll definitely be back!

I sat at the bar and ordered a coffee. They only seem to do meals now, as opposed to light bites so I had a pain au chocolate. I was very surprised when it came to 8.25. Not only did the regular latte with an extra shot cost 4.50 but because of the added 10% it was in fact £5, which is extortionate for a coffee house or whatever the place is now. I could have asked for it to be removed but just couldn't be bothered. I won't return as I am sick of places charging an extra tax without advising so. And I most certainly don't expect to be charged a service charge for a coffee and croissant.

This was the first time we’d dined at the Deckhouse and it is now one of our favourite dining experiences. The food was delicious. My partner enjoyed the steak for his main and my favourite course was the Crunchy roast vegetable salad for my starter, which our server, Joe, asked how i’d describe it in one word, i said “tasty”. We really enjoyed our date night here, the three courses were served at just the right times and Joe provided an exceptional quality service.

Had the normal breakfast. Tasted decent and coffee was really good. What you expect of a top rated cafe. Proper sausages too 😁 Service was a bit slow and not that attentive but it was full when I went. Would have been 5 stars if you gave me a bigger plate to eat on and charge less as £20 is a bit steep

Joe was sweet and funny. Very very descriptive of the dishes. Even asked us for our own descriptions. Can confirm that the chocolate mousse is ‘chocolatey’. 11/10 would mousse again.

Paying a service charge without being asked doesn't sit well with me. It's taking money from me without my permission. I suppose the owners will say it's mentioned in the small print somewhere on the menu but who looks at that?? I look at a menu to see what's available. The prices here are already higher than most places without having 10% added to my bill. Mediocre coffee and yet a premium price. I won't be returning, not because of the prices but more the way the business is run and it's attitude towards my custom.

Very bang average. Food is nothing to write home about, and rather expensive for the low quality. Coffee was nice, as well as being hot. Service was lacking, after being seated at a dirty table we had to ask 3 times for it to be wiped. Glasses provided for water were also dirty.

Totally Obnoxious server. Was unnecessarily rude to my mother, when we enquired if we could have a table at lunch time. We’ve eaten before and food was fine. Probably wouldn’t return as customer service is a big part of people’s experience.

Asked for a table for coffee, then was shown to a table by a waiter - was then told by an extremely rude manager our seat was reserved for food only. We felt so uncomfortable we then left - and then overheard the manager talking rudely about us to another member of staff! Unbelievable service, manager was rude, entitled, and treated us like dirt. Had been here many times, and will absolutely never come back. Thanks for nothing!

We dropped in for lunch. We were seated upstairs and ignored for 15 minutes. When the server came we explained we only had an hour left and asked if we would get served the 2 course lunch menu in this time. First course took another 30 minutes to arrive, second course arrived leaving us 5 minutes to eat. To add insult to injury we were then presented with a bill including 10% service charge which we asked to have removed. There just didn't seem to be enough staff which was such a pity.

Wow what a lovely relaxing place to eat we diverted on our way back from clarks village back home and glad we did. It was the first place we came across and so pleased we had lunch here. My only criticism was the fish pie had too much chilly and couldn't taste the fish or sauce which spoilt it for me sorry. Can you make it less hot or state in the menu it has chilly in it. I would have chosen something different. I did eat it all btw and the side salad was lovely with a nice dressing. I love flavours but not hot as in chilly hot please.

We often go at the weekend for breakfast. Food lovely and cooked fresh. Atmosphere is relaxing and the staff are happy and helpful. The only negative is that I dont like a 10% service charge added to bill. They will offer to remove it but 2 things - no one should be taxed for being nice and I want to be free to decide how big the tip is not a computer. But otherwise, fantastic place

This place gets it just right, and I cannot praise the staff enough, they were wonderful.

Food was average but expensive and the hot chocolate was really cold. The thing I most dislike is not treating staff well and that for me is the most important factor in a business... If you treat your staff with kindness and decency, it will reflect in their work and for that reason, I wouldn't visit ever again.

Had a fab meal yesterday at the Deckhouse and was very impressed which I don’t say lightly as picky with my food and rarely give a five star review but fish pie was fabulous and cheesecake. Two course menu with a glass of house white is exceptional value and wonderful atmosphere and music . Will be back

UPDATED - Credit where it is due, Sarah the Manager has contacted me personally and clearly genuinely cares about the service received and ensuring this new business meets the standards they aspire to. Thanks Sarah I rarely leave reviews, and I’m sorry this is negative. Visited today for the 1st time with my wife and two children (3&8). Arrived and were seated, asked for children’s menus and the waitress was unsure if they did have such a thing and only with a prompt was prepared to find out. Even when she returned it was still not clear how children were catered for, she didn’t know and only upon paying the bill was it clear they are treated as adults. Service was slow, and when ordering desserts we grew increasingly frustrated with the delay, especially as all staff were busy congregating around the bar ignoring dirty tables and blissfully chatting away. Eventually we had to cancel the desserts. Worth noting this was a Sunday at 4pm and it was not busy. It’s a shame as the food was ok even if the menu is a little uninspired and the decor is lovely. But, as in other reviews here it’s clear there is lots of work to do with the team and ensuring the service meets the standards of the environment.

I have wanted to vist the Deckhouse for sometime, and, because it's my birthday, I decided to go there for brunch. It was great. I booked a table last week, and the chap who took my booking was absolutely delightful, and everyone I met today was lovely too. Nothing was too much trouble. It was a pleasure and a treat!! First visit, just for coffee. Nice surroundings, pleasant atmosphere, good welcome. Found a table, a touch cramped but the place was very busy and noisy. Excellent service, brilliant coffee. Very convenient for the town centre.

Asked if they could seat a table of two....not welcomed, without any words just pointed at a table closest to the front door without any acknowledgement at all. Incredibly rude host. Horrific attitude. Won't be returning.

Food was OK, and the service (delivering 2 plates and 2 drinks to a table - not a difficult task) was fine. What did leave a sour taste was the addition of a "discretionary service charge" of 10% automatically added to the bill. More and more restaurants are now adding this to the bill, which is deplorable. If the restaurant thinks the staff deserve more, pay them more. Leaving a tip should always be the decision of the customer, and shouldn't be surreptitiously added to the bill. Won't be returning.

Been here a few times for drinks and always good vibes. Had a meal tonight and really enjoyed it, Ed made us feel really welcome and relaxed. Would recommend.

Deckhouse is steadily becoming my new favourite place in Taunton! The staff are all so lovely and the food is delicious. I came here with my girls in search of a festive menu to get us in the mood for Christmas and we weren’t disappointed at all! The vegetarian options were so good and filled to the brim with flavour and the wine and cocktails were all fab. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for good food and wine in a cosy spot. I’ve been here several times now for food and it’s all been lush.
