M & S Kitchen Lakeside in Thurrock

I went to the m&s cafe in lakeside and felt like I was in a builders cafe as no saucer with your cup and given a stick to stir my tea, no communication as you just do your own ordering and then just sit down. I won’t be going there again as I really thought m&s were better than this very disappointed.

Looks nice from outside unfortunately was closed by the time we went there for a cuppa at 7pm

On visiting the cafe I ordered my food and pot of tea- table was only cleared but not cleaned when my food was bought to me no tea though, the girl said she would be back to clean table she never arrived, I waited and eventually asked another for my tea and to clean the table he brought my tea but no table cleaned. Very disappointed!

A beautiful cafe based inside the new M&S, very bright, clean and spacious. They have the friendliest staff here, very polite and helpful. The quality of food and drinks is very good, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Nice selection of teas and cakes available. The scone was giant and very delicious, goes very well with the creamy clotted cream and strawberry jam. There’s a gluten free option as well. Free water available by the entrance. The restaurant is spacious, allowing wheelchairs and pushchairs to go around without problems. 👍🏻

Recently visited for breakfast with my sister, she ordered hers first and me second on the self service machine, tea arrived for her first then me, then her breakfast arrived and mine didn’t, waited 20 minutes and asked if mine was going to be much longer, was told it wasn’t ready just yet but will be out shortly, waited another 20 minutes by this time my sister had finished her breakfast, asked again and was told that it had been ‘lost’ had to provide a receipt as proof even tho my tea had arrived, at this stage we had already been there for over an hour and needed to leave, I had to request a refund and was only offered a very unconvincing sorry, and was only refunded for my breakfast. I understand mistakes happen but to have to ask twice where it was, was frustrating to say the least, and then to have to prove my order and wait for a refund just made the whole experience one I won’t be repeating, not only did I have to try and grab something to eat whilst doing my shopping it limited my time in lakeside which I don’t get to do much. The way my situation was dealt with made this whole experience worse. So I can’t comment on the taste of the food due to mine not arriving.

Only popped in for a cuppa before M&S shopping. McDonalds kiosk style ordering put in your disc number and everything is delivered to your table. Quick friendly service. Only downside - although the tables were cleared and wiped as soon as they were vacated all the crumbs were swept onto the floor and unlike McDonalds didn't once see anyone come round with a dustpan and broom to clear it so customers were sitting with their shoes in muck.

The quality of M&S cafe has gone downhill. Dingy, dirty. You wouldn't even think its M&S! It's a shame. Went to M&S cafe abroad where the quality is still so good.

It is a shame, the place loses its value day by day, things get old, worn tables and floors, Not clean enough for M&S reputation, coffee stone cold, I assume, they don't pay enough attention anymore due relocation to old Debenhams, in any ways, this visit wasn't pleasant enough to not to criticise 🙄

Lady serving us, Wendy, was polite and helpful, helped recommend a deal to save money, frappe was nice and so was food. Thank you x

The Scampi meal I had today was not up to expectations. The serving staff are very polite and efficient, however the management do need to sort out the standard of food served.

A regular Saturday shopper and cafe visitor. Food is tasty and staff have excellent customer skills

Really disgusting service, we got there just before 16.30pm on a Sunday after seeing online that the cafe shuts at 5pm. So we get there before they’ve put the barriers across and she said ‘oh we are closed’. It wasn’t even 16.30pm yet! Why don’t you update your opening times so you don’t disappoint customers. All you’re doing is microwaving food, she could have done it for us but was rude and refused to. Would avoid this place. Very rude and unclear opening times.

Nice staff serving good quality snacks which was brought to the table. Toasties are lovely.

Stopped for a hot drink service was excellent. Wasn't overly full but a lot of people were having the breakfast which looked very appetizing. Would recommend.

Had a lovely lunch here. There is a great selection of hot and cold food as well as drinks. Good choice for vegetarians and Vegans. The prices are pretty good and food was full of flavour. Loads of seating which was clean and tidy.

Can't say it's perfect but good doesn't quite cut it either. The filter coffee was correct, the bacon butty was stacked and the toastie would please a hungover chef. The service was calm and effective. For breakfast it was not crowded at all.

Queues are not crazy and 2 people are allowed shop together.

I enjoy M&S kitchen a lot. It's like a cafe but with that touch of M&S. The food and the drinks are of the quality you would expect from M&S and so is the service. I don't think I have ever had a bad experience there and I have been a few times now. I would recommend it too people, just remember that they have gone for quality over quantity so if you want something the size of a dustbin lid then this isn't the place for you haha

My visit was fine and certainly not remarkable or memorable. Having said that, I find most M&S cafeteria are very mediocre. It was relatively clean and at this location, the staff were friendly. It's problem is that it's so uninspiring and hardly a welcoming atmosphere. It seems as though M&S feel obliged to lay on catering rather than wanting to.

When l visited this place, the service was slow because the server was taking the order AND making teas and coffees. Also a lot of the staff on the tills don't look very happy, giving the impression that they hate their job!

Pretty average and service very slow.

Ok but not brilliant and sad to see that toast is now only a breakfast choice before 11 we used to have this at all times during the day. It appears that we are not alone in expressing our displeasure at this the general attitude seems top be that it helps the kitchen staff so what happens to the customer is paramount I wonder!!!

Very nice Falafel salad, service slow only 2 assistant on duty, but it was a Monday afternoon.

Trouble with m and s kitchen is it looks just like a cafe.... in the 80s sense of the meaning. No frills, obviously good food as it's marks, but nothing special. To be honest it's just a place my elderly relatives find it easy to meet up.

Very helpful staff as I am in a wheelchair and your lady staff colleague carried my tray of goodies and placed on a table of my choice. Very polite and nothing was too much trouble.

Cooked breakfast with poached eggs, slightly dearer than others places, but quality produce well cooked. Decent cup of tea and great toast

For M&s very poor , the salad was very greasy and left a film in my mouth. My partners sandwich was limp both were very over priced.

Great food but not enough staff serving 40 minutes wait for food.

It was a very busy Saturday lunchtime during sale time. Unfortunately there was a 40 minute wait for hot food & several customers turned away to go elsewhere while I was there to get a coffee.

Some remarks annoy me the staff are only human not robots

I didn't eat here only had a cup of tea which was nice but my dad and son both had a cooked English breakfast. They had to wait twenty minutes for it to be cooked. They was told they could only have scrambled or poached eggs . The toast looked like it had been shown to the toaster (not colour to it ) and the sausages didn't have much flavour. Don't think they'd come back .

Had a variety of food and drinks. Scones, clotted cream and tea - Delicious. Service not as great. Ordered two drinks received the coffee immediately then the lady/girl walked away, waited around got the tea, then had to ask the person at the till for the tea, there was no queue so wasn't sure why it was not made when coffee was made. Overall was ok. Been to other M&S cafe had better service.

service can improve no point having so many staff if people are not doing their job properly. The staff need to stop talking and serve the customers.. food is good.
