Made a special trip into town for one of their renowned savaloy sandwiches two weeks ago only to be told they had no savaloys. Can happen I suppose, went back again this morning ~ another special trip, only to be told they still have no savaloys. Time to inform your customer base that you no longer serve savaloys.

Saveloys, what have you done to them? I stopped buying them around 6 months ago because when you peeled them the meat was always slimy, so the other day I decided to give them another try and there were still slimy but now the texture of the meat when you get is is like eating Shipmans sandwich paste direct from the jar and they had a strange sodium taste to them. As you can guess, I won't be buying or recommending them again. As can be seen, these Saveloys were well in date Dicksons had the chance to answer this complaint on their Facebook page, to date they have not acknowledged it, I'll not be buying from them again.

This was my 1st “too good to go” I paid £3.40 & got one egg triangle sandwich & 1 cheese savoury triangle sandwich, 2 beef fajita bakes, & 4 yes 4 rolls of stuffing, it’s what I would call a disgrace, and wouldn’t bother again

Went to the shop on the corner of Newgate street/Grainger street in Newcastle city centre. Ordered a large sausage bun with a hash brown, the bun very very dry definately not fresh, no butter or marg on the bun, with 4 very small sausages and a tasteless hash brown. Definately not worth £4.78. Should of went inside the Greenmarket where there is plenty of choice with fresh decent portions for a lot less money.

Awful ! This pie defied its title ' steak pie ' . A gravy mush with one small piece of cheap tough stewing steak. Never again.

We bought two savaloy dips in the Houghton le Spring branch. They were an insult to the name and tradition of the savaloy dip. The savaloys were almost colourless, barely a pale pink and almost totally lacking in flavour. The pease pudding and stuffing were no better, both equally lacking in flavour. They were so bad that after a couple of bites we threw them in the bin. They were not cheap, £4.19 each, and a complete waste of money. Dickson's should be ashamed of themselves for selling these as traditional savaloy dips. They bear no resemblance to a proper dip. Don't be fooled. Save your money.

This is for the branch in Guidepost. The shop has changed drastically from a butchers and sandwich shop to quite simply a fast food joint. Overpriced hot breakfast-style rolls available, along with a pastry counter but the fresh meat is stuck into a very small chilled shelf and is pre-packed with little choice. Such a shame the butchers have gone from here. The staff are on another level and I don’t mean good. The expression salt of the earth comes to mind but in a bad way. Rough looking and in manner too. When asked for more mushrooms by a colleague, another just simply said aye aye and started throwing trays around. Walked away with 2 hot breakfast sandwiches and 2 pasties for over £14. The quality of food is ok, hence the 2 rating but honestly, this place has gone downhill. My mother who has gone there for years will no longer go either. Sad really.

Great food. We bought a ham and coleslaw long roll and this was fresh and delicious. We took home with us a large steak pie. We heated the pie in the oven and I have to say that it was the best beef pie I can remember eating. Well done!

Bought a make your own breakfast from here, tasted horrific, everything tasted like washing up liquid, probably the worst tasting black pudding in my life, was all just disgusting. Couldn't even make a decent cup of coffee. If I could give less than 1 star I would. Absolutely awful.

I love Savaloy Dips, a tasty Savaloy, sage and onion stuffing, pease pudding and the top of the bun dipped in gravy. I’ve been eating them for decades, not that often maybes a couple of times a year. I used to buy mine from a pork shop in Heaton, then moved to Forest Hall new deli but all delicious. Today I tried Dicksons on Grainger Street, my son and his wife were over from the USA so we needed Savaloy dips. There’s not that many pork shops anymore (sadly) so finding one isn’t easy. I now live away from my usual go to, so Dicksons was the nearest. What a mistake!! Absolutely tasteless, texture less disgusting Savaloy, my car now stinks with a smell that certainly isn’t related to any meat product I’ve ever had. The Savaloy itself was a blended pale (literally) imitation of this great northern delicacy, the only flavour came from the salty pease pudding, I know it had stuffing but there again was no taste, same with the gravy dipping, nothing. Well didn’t eat the sandwiches, a huge disappointment...absolute utter rubbish, avoid at all costs. Tomorrow I’m heading to Forest Hall, I need my faith restored.

Just had a sausage and egg muffin at the Dicksons on Grainger St in the city centre. Not bad traditional breakfast served with a smile. A customer in there was telling how he'd been coming for years and how it was better quality than the Greggs opposite. A decent enough pit stop for a pre-work breakfast in the city. Small seating area at the back too.

Was on holiday last week in Whitley Bay and bought a selection of pies to eat in the caravan from the Dicksons butchers there. The plate steak pie was simply superb and possibly the best I've ever had, full of tender chunks of prime beef and a rich gravy. The smaller pork pies were excellent too. I've since discovered that this firm has a lot of shops across the North east. I can't recommend the pies highly enough

Easter Monday, my partner and I were trailing round the streets of Newcastle looking for an all day breakfast at 1pm, hungover and drenched from the rain.. no where was still serving breakfast until we found Dicksons! It was gorgeous! Helped us right out before our dreaded drive back to Stockton! Perfect bacon and sausages. Thanks so much :) P.S. please add toast?

Called into the shop in the city centre on a freezing cold morning and asked for a steak slice at £1.35. Didn't realised until l left the shop that I'd been given a cold one. Anyway just decided to take it home and heat it up then. Couldn't believe that they charge as much for this poorly presented small savoury. On this experience l don't think I'll be returning.

Just visited the north east and visted the Dickinson shops where available. These shops sell seriously good pies and carvery sandwiches at great prices. The mince and onion pie is absolutely top notch. Definitely worth checking out if in the area, you won't be disappointed.

There are many Pork Butchers in Newcastle who serve freshly made traditional Pork sandwiches and often Savaloy sausage too however they always have freshly baked pastries and pies. My favourite here is the family sized plate minced meat pie mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
