Lussmanns Sustainable Kitchen & Bar - Hertford in East Hertfordshire

Really lovely restaurant, with a nice atmosphere and a good menu. But it's let down by the service. We were a table of four but for some reason we were only given three menus and, after eating our starters, only given three new sets of cutlery. When asking for another set, this took forever and eventually I just had to grab some from another table. Drinks also took forever. Maybe just a bad night.

Lovely experience. First time at this place and pleasantly surprised. I ordered the chicken Caesar salad, for main, and the Eton mess for dessert. The staff were so welcoming and friendly too. Would definitely visit again.

Service was great .... Food was ok . Not stand out . The Greek salad was disappointing to say the least . The standard of it was mediocre at best and to call it a main course was a joke . More of a side salad and at £16.50 highway robbery . Its a shame but we won't be going there again .

Lussmans saved the day after we were asked to leave a nearby restaurant because we had a newborn baby with us. They didn't have space in the main restaurant but seated us in a private room and were so welcoming and accommodating.

The best steak I’ve ever had, it melts in your mouth, it was so tender and full flavour, we were sat in the bar area but we were not ignored, the staff were attentive and extremely friendly !

I don't even know where to begin with this best kept secret! From arranging the booking with Rafi, the manager, right the way through to enjoying a first class meal at this fine dining fish restaurant. There were meat options, too! The mushroom starter was incredible. The daughter ordered the Halibut and I ordered the whole lemon sole... to say they were delicious beyond words is an understatement! Absolutely exquisite. I had the rhubarb meringue and daughter had the vanilla ice cream with hot coffee poured over it. STUNNING. RAFI! thank you for looking after us before my work trip back to China x We're looking forward to visiting again! Only one picture taken pf the mushroom starter! We devoured the main lol x see you all again soon x

Superb value set menu with plenty of choice. First time visit on a Sunday for a catch up lunch. Impressed with the menu overall and especially the great value set menu. Had 3 courses, plenty to choose from within the set menu options. Rest of the menu looked good too. Great to see such a focus on sustainability. Wine list comprehensive and considered. Bonus of lots of Gluten free options within the set menu as well. Gluten free and intolerances accessible via a QR code on the menu. Pleased to see several dessert choices. Service attentive and informative.

What a wonderful afternoon spent at Hertford Lussmans. Myself, my partner and my wonderful freinds (over from Bali) thoroughly enjoyed our food, drinks and service. Our waiiter was attentive, freindly and a credit to himself and Lussmans. We will return and recomend you to everyone. Thank you again for a lovely afternoon.

Came on a Sunday evening for my birthday meal. Staff were brilliant from the moment we walked through the door, from the greet, to the table, to the meal. One of our waitresses was clearly training and learning, but she was still absolutely fantastic and did a great job! And the food, wow, all 3 courses were great. Not a single thing let it down. Thank you for a lovely meal, will definitely be returning!

Great place. Had a really good value meal here on Sunday. Two course for not very much. Starters we had the caper salad and terrine. Both plates licked clean. They had run out of sole so I went for the steak which was immense. Fishcake equally good. Desserts were also high quality. Would definitely recommend this place. Decors nice, staff friendly and food delicious. Would go again. I’m closer to Hitchin so want to try that one next.

Great meal. Fantastic waiter (Chase). Only let down by a cheese plate that was mostly plate with 3 scraps of cheese. Very tasty cheese, but one mouthful of each!!!

Delicious food, friendly service and atmosphere. Still dreaming about that pineapple carpaccio! We came for the first time to Lussmanns and we will definitely be coming again.

The food and service are fantastic as always, however there is some news about a bar being installed at the front of the restaurant which might turn off some people as having a bar normally comes with loud people.

The location has moved along the street but the food is still great. Also offering local craft beer too.

We haven't been to Lussmans for a while, but I'm not sure why, because the food is as delicious and thoughtfully prepared as ever, with a welcoming atmosphere and excellent service. Thank you to all the team in Hertford - we won't leave it so long until the next time!

The food was overall very good, especially the Hunters Linguine starter which I highly recommend. The setting, decor and interior is also very easy on the eye, but… Maybe we caught this place on a bad day because the service really wasn’t up to standard which was a surprise having read the reviews before booking. We’d been sat for 35 minutes without our food orders being taken so one of us had to get up and find a waiter to be served. We were told “sorry I thought you were waiting for more people”.. when there was only one person missing from our eleven person booking, it seemed like a made up excuse rather than the real reason. The waiters were polite and friendly but the orders took too long to come out, our various empty glasses, beer cans and wine bottles were left at our table throughout our stay, our dishes got half cleared and the rest ten minutes later, our deserts came out without spoons so we had to ask for them, and the surprise birthday deserts that was requested by one of our party before we arrived weren’t brought out. (We did only remember about this until after we left). By the time our deserts came out we’d been in the restaurant two and a half hours. Perhaps the restaurant was understaffed but some of this is preventable regardless.

Great service and excellent food, even on a busy Saturday night. Highly recommend the Friday fish n chips

Brilliant menu and delicious food with friendly service.

Visited on the 9/12 as a group of four and was lucky to enjoy the private dining room. The food choices were great and the food itself was beautiful. Our waiter was lovely and very interactive, in fact all the staff on the evening were lovely and smiling a lot which shows a good environment. 10/10 and we will definitely be back in the new year.

Outstanding food & service loved it

Beautifully ambient restaurant. Nice vibe in there. 3 out of 5 plates were returned. Fish overcooked. Rice under cooked. They forgot an order of shepherd's pie so we couldn't eat together. The pork schnitzel was full of fat unfortunately which was returned. One diner swapped his meal for another shepherd's pie which was cremated. Service overall was very good though I hasten to add.

Hit and miss place. We’ve been here many times and sometimes they do great food and service and other times the service is really bad - one server in particular forgot our food multiple times and seemed to laugh about it rather than apologise!

Excellent service and food in great relaxed atmosphere. Creme brule was fantastic but let down by being handed bowls direct from servers hands instead of bowels being placed in small plates not the most hygienic way to service or present. Needs attention. Sam the server was clearly embarrassed by this. Will return again. Highly recommended.

We've always enjoyed eating at Lussmans. The service is great and the food is really good. Definitely our favourite place to eat in Hertford if looking for something a bit more special or if celebrating an occasion.

Wonderful experience for our wedding anniversary

Exceptional food, healthy and high quality. The service was excellent, we had such a great time there. Prices were quite reasonable for quality of food and service. Beautiful yet comfortable design and aesthetic as well. Highly recommend if you are in town and want a nice dinner experience!

On recommendation made a special trip to Hertford for our anniversary. Food & service were good but the rest was chaos! Although only a few tables were taken we were seated at table 20 next to the bar & by the stairs to the toilets & staff changing rooms.Our peaceful, romantic evening was ruined not only by the bar opposite constant heavy bass in the background (which I appreciate they can’t control but it was just the last straw)but the arrival of a large amount of staff for evening service. Two of these staff were new and were being trained, one rather loudly by existing staff, rather than enjoying my meal I was learning all the table numbers and that if they don’t order a ‘small’ glass of wine, don’t give them one! With a 12.5% service charge & the restaurants reputation we thought we would be looked after better than this. So disappointed!

We went to Lussmanns for the first time tonight - I’ve always wanted to go. We had a lovely bruschetta started to share. I had the vegetarian paella for main and my husband had the steak. The food was sensational and so was the service and the ambiance we got served by Libby who was an absolute delight and really smiley and attentive. For pudding we shared the strawberry cheesecake which was light and very full of flavour. It was all fabulous the only thing I would have liked would have been to had to sea food in the paella seeing as it is advertised as a fish restaurant. Anyway still loved it.

Had a really wonderful evening. The service was impeccable. Our food was good but not outstanding but I would recommend.

I was a bit disappointed, unfortunately. Despite the restaurant's great decor, the meals turned out to be surprisingly average. Moreover, the food was expensive for something that lacked flavor. For our starters, we ordered burrata and linguine. Out of all the dishes, the only one I truly enjoyed was the linguine (I could give more than ⭐️⭐️⭐️ only for that really). When it comes to the main courses, we had the Rhug organic lamb leg steak and MSC red bream puttanesca. Unfortunately, both dishes were quite bland and failed to impress. On a positive note, the service was good, and we had no complaints about it at all.

We love Lussmans and the food is absolutely delicious. Service amazing, and the location is great. However, the portion sizes have shrunk, and particularly the chicken dishes. The two male members of the party ordered the pot roast chicken leg, but actually two skinny drumsticks arrived with a tiny amount of sauce, not even in a bed of vegetables. While very tasty, this was unacceptable for a main meal on a Friday evening. I hope this problem improves on our return! Oh, and the wine and desserts were fantastic. Hence overall 4 stars.

This restaurant is absolutely amazing! I celebrated my birthday the other day and the staff were so friendly. I had a ham hock terrine for a starter and it was lovely. I had Steak frites for my main with a buttery sauce and the steak was cooked just the way I like it and was very juicy. The chips weren't soggy and all crispy. The herbs in the sauce were lovely as well. For dessert I had a date and toffee pudding. The pudding was gingery and it wasn't too much. it was perfect. The cake had a bunch of flavours and I even got extra ice cream for free since it was my birthday! Will definitely come again! :)

Amazing restaurant! Food was delicious, ambiance top class and the waiters/waitresses incredible. Can't wait to return 10/10 Priced really quite cheap for the quality also!

After visiting this establishment I was bitterly disappointment. The staff and food was very pretentious while offering mediocre tasting cuisine.

The food was excellent but expected more quantity for the price.. Andrei, I ordered the Cod Loin which was delicious & my husband had the smoked Haddock with poached egg. we both enjoyed it immensely. My husband felt that the portions were small for the price. I loved Lussmanns and the docor is beautiful.

Great experience. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly, non-alcoholic selection is excellent and the food is good. As with most British restaurants these days, the main courses are a little unexciting, however the starters make up for this so I’d recommend having two of those instead! Had the crumble for dessert which was excellent - one of the few places these days that has a decent crumble to ice cream ratio! Prices are reasonable too and - rarely in this day and age - the restaurant was spotlessly clean.

We came here after our wedding at county hall for lunch. The staff and food were fantastic. The staff really went the extra mile to make it special. The menu had great options and every course was brilliant. The best dish for me was the Bombas. Highly recommended

Restaurant looks very modern, cosy and relaxed. It is in good location in Hertford. Atmosphere was great and we truly enjoyed our dinner. Table needs to be booked online or via phone and it’s possible to reserve a lovely new private dining room, perfect for special occasions and family celebrations. The food was amazing and well cooked. My partner had * Organic sirloin steak & chips (255g, Rhug Farm, Corwen, Wales) rare with red wine sauce and it was totally delicious. I had * MSC smoked haddock & free-range poached egg Kale & shallot potato cake, wholegrain mustard sauce and again totally lovely. Also ordered a bottle of white wine ( there is wide selection of red/white wine and rosé, alcoholic drinks such as apéritifs, beers and ciders, whiskey, ports, some cocktails and non - alcoholic drinks too. The service was perfect, Tabitha was excellent! Very friendly, attentive and rapid! Tap water as we were sat or maybe even before :). Tabitha really knows what to recommend and we both left delighted. We had a bottle of wine and we had it filled up regularly as Tabitha really paid attention and took a great care of us. Next time when we will be in Hertford, we will return :)

Have Visited a couple of times and the food quality is good, enjoyed the steak frites on second visit along with the pate as a starter and bramley apple crumble for dessert The food service was good and waitress very friendly and efficient, good use of floorspace as the restaurant never felt cramped or restricted in terms of access to the table to the facilities and between the Isles. The atmosphere in this restaurant is its best, among the good points. It always felt very relaxed and friendly even when it got busier (although the restaurant wasn't busy on the latest visit) Overall, recommended as a friendly relaxed restaurant with good food, facilities, floor space and decoration and atmosphere.

Always amazing food, however sometimes service is a little slow. Food is sustainably sourced which is a nice touch. Good range of vegetarian and some vegan food.

My girlfriend and i have now been here 3 times for special occasions, and the food and the service have always been 5 star. Would definitely recommend this if your having a night out. Lovely seasonal menu and reasonable prices. We got the set Christmas set menu for £32 each and it was great value for money, and the cocktails where lovely.

So great. The food was fab. The staff. Especially Mattao was so great with my 4 year old. Such a lively man. He was the icing on the cake.

We booked at fairly short notice for a family meal of 18 after a family funeral. The staff were very accommodating , kind, sensitive and efficient. We preordered our food from a set menu. It was all delicious and beautifully presented.

Excellent fish dominated menu, deliciously cooked. Staff very accommadating. Service was a little slow and local, nearby parking is hard to find. Not cheap, but you get good quality, which you do pay for. Ideal for special occasions. S.G.

Not worth the money one would pay for the food.

Updating my review as my last one was from 6 years ago! Booked here thinking that it was still the same restaurant as before, serving mostly fish based dishes. So was pleasantly surprised to see that it has now moved location and offers new dishes that include steak, rabbit and also fish. I had the linguine with rabbit for starter, steak frites (always medium rare!) and apple crumble for dessert. The food was fantastic with the steak done perfectly! Will definitely be visiting again more frequently in the future.

Some very nice dishes with great service and a good atmosphere. I've been three times now. Last time I went, the starter of rabbit was exceptionally delicious. I had the hake as a main which was fine but I was quite envious of my son's steak which he was delighted with. Unfortunately the vegetarian food has not been so good. Earlier this year my wife was served an aubergine parmigiana that was surprisingly bad. Now it's difficult to persuade her to return.

We arrived late on bank holiday Monday and was able to get a table quickly and easily. Food was lovely our waiter was brilliant; he was able to recommend the wines and side dishes for our meals. Except for the too expensive wines and a desire for more vegetarian options, i recommend Lussmans wholeheartedly

I ended up here by coincidence but the restaurant and ambience were amazing. Great team and fantastic food make this an outstanding choice for everyone looking for a dinner experience in the Hertford area.

We went for a early dinner, the food was quite good but unfortunately the service was slow, plates not cleared away and we had to ask for desserts, considering we were one of three tables in the restaurant the waitress preferred to chat at the away.

First time at the new location on Fore St, both me and my wife went for the set menu, and in this day and age the value for money is fantastic, salmon starter, then we both chose the vegetarian options for our main, we were not disappointed, then with a little bit of retro desert it was just brilliant, thank you Nick for your great hospitality.

Nice atmosphere, tasty food with interesting combinations, delicious fish. Good place for special occasions. Beware: olives, bread, or any additional food like mashed potato or salad is not for free:)

Back for the first time since before lockdown. Refreshingly, despite a move to a new location, Lussmans is every bit as good as before. A tasty menu, attentive staff, and a lovely seeing - what more could you ask for...

Great little place with amazing food and really good espresso. Have to give a shout-out to my bartender “Orange Butter” and her buddy “Android Carrot”.
