Lurra in City of London, Westminster

Booked a table and was not told will be sitting in a tent adjacent to the restaurant. The table was plastic and the chairs were uncomfortable garden furniture. The meal was overpriced and limited.

Been to Lurra twice, and both times were enjoyable. We have tried a bit of everything, however I must say that the yellow tail tartare, the jamon and the turbot (even my picky eater 4 year old enjoyed it!) were our favourites. The cheesecake is superb and it’s definitely worth to pop in only to have that dessert and a glass of wine. Staff is friendly and attentive. Lovely atmosphere. We will be back! Thank you

Very disappointing. Been going here for years but hadn't been since Covid. Service was very slow, had to get up and ask for a drink after arriving. Starters were ok, main course of octupus (still excellent) and portk ribs, almost inedible. We left them and told the waitress that they were too tough to chew. She seemed disinterested. Still came in at £300+ for 3. no mention of the awful ribs. Was the best Spanish in town..nowhere near it now. Check out Hispania at Bank...and and no loo roll in the bathroom. Inexcusable for a restaurant this pricey.

Overall, a good experience. The food is definitely not “average” as some reviews claim - it varied from good to very good to exceptional. From what we ate I would break that down as follows - iberico jamon (good), pan con tomato (very good), the mains - leg of lamp and the iberico pork (both exceptional) - the pork tasted so rich and tender you could almost think it was a high quality steak, side dishes of tomato salad and fries (both very good) and finally one burnt cheesecake (exceptional- so light and fluffy/definitely the best cheesecake I’ve eaten). Now price relative to quality brings the experience down a notch - the meal cost c.£270 (incl. 4 glasses of blanc de blanc bubbly and 1 glass of desert wine). I think £200 would be more reasonable. One other thing, the service is slight hit and miss. I booked a table inside (not knowing it would be so warm) but when we arrivedI saw there were 4-5 empty tables on the patio outside so I asked if we could sit there. Note it was about 6.50pm. The guy said he would check and when he came back said to me something like “nothing free currently but if you want I can see if something becomes available in half an hour”. What an earth is this supposed to mean?! The tables are empty - either they are booked before say 9 or 9.15pm or they are not. Anyway, this doesn’t put me off the restaurant and shouldn’t put you off coming here, just slightly odd.

I have been vistiing London for over 35 years and have eaten in some great restaurants. I would have to say that the food on Saturday night was as good as I have ever had in London. The whole expereice was outstanding - the ambiance, staff, our waiter, service etc. The food was simply wondeful - octopus, turbot, steak, aubergine, the cheesecake. Note, it is an expensive place but the overall quality of the food really helps !

Spur of the moment visit prior to a concert in Hyde Park, lovely friendly greeting by staff, with time spent explaining items on menu. Ordered a selection of small dishes, pepper and prawns absolutely stunning. Owner?/Manager very friendly, so much so we ordered a second bottle of wine..... the basque cheesecake is worth a visit alone!. Great hospitality, we dropped in the following day to enjoy some particularly fine cava, and another couple of slices of cheesecake. Yes, it's pricey, but we loved the food and the hospitality.

Overrated, nothing special. … Someone has to point out how average this place is. I have been to Basque country, both Spanish and French parts. Had Basque food quite possibly hundreds of times. Including a few places in London. This is quite possibly the bottom of my list. We’ve sampled quite a few dishes including 3 types of main courses. None of them was exceptional. Given the price range, nothing came across worthwhile to mention. Service was ok-ish. Apart from the fact that Our waitress couldn’t even tell what some dishes’ main ingredients were. (Her excuse was that the menu has recently changed :)) )The wines were also nothing special, just expensive. It’s also very noisy, full of people who seem to be burning company “entertainment” budgets. If you are after good taste, there are many others, if you after truly high quality service, there are many others, if you are after a place simply “expensive” go for it.

The food was so delicious! We had the octopus, the dry aged ribeye steak, and a cheesecake. The octopus and steak were cooked to perfection, very tender and well seasoned. The texture of the cheesecake was also fantastic. I do hope they can improve the plating, though. The dishes tasted better than they looked. The price was very steep, too. The steak costed 130 pounds.

This has always been our treat restaurant and have had some fantastic meals here in the past. My wife and I took my mother here today as she was passing through London on the way home from Costa Rica and we wanted to take her somewhere special l. Regrettably it didn’t live up to previous expectations. Service was excellent as always and we ordered a selection of starters including Croquettes and squid and a few more. Everything was excellent however the main even which I think was something claiming to be a prime rib was terrible. It was absolutely doused in oil and not cooked to sufficiently tender the fat so it was extremely chewy and hadn’t had the sinew cleaned off properly by the chef / butcher. It looked ok but due to it being too fatty and oily I was left wishing I’d have gone somewhere else and had a sirloin / fillet / rump steak. A restaurant famed for its meat and self proclaimed specialist in Galician beef should have done better really however they very kindly offered for our 2 cheesecakes to be taken off the bill (£18). I accepted this and moved on but was absolutely staggered to see on the itemised bill a charge of £140 for that piece of steak. Yes that’s £140. For a chewy, oily, under rendered & poorly cooked steak. The overall bill was £300+ including 1 bottle of wine for 3. Seems like a lot of money to me for a below average meal.

It looks like this restaurant has had some fairly mixed reviews. But for us (a table of three), we have only good things to say. The food was superb (elegantly understated), service was attentive, courteous and professional, and we left feeling completely satisfied. Pricing is not for the faint-hearted; and most of the clientele looked like they were on corporate account. For us on personal account (on holiday in London for the first time in more than three years), it was worth seeing how great food can be. The FT has sung Lurra’s praises. Would I return? Probably not because the pricing is a little steep for me, but I would still recommend it to friends wanting to to sample Basque cuisine at its best. The pork was full of flavour, crabmeat pintxos perfect, and octopus deliciously tender. Lunch for three (including one dessert to share and two glasses of the mid-priced wines) came to £250.

We arrived around 14:35 today with our luggage with us and the reception told us to leave our luggage at the reception they will put our luggage in the storage. However, our luggage was instantly be stolen within 2 mins because there’s no one at the reception to take care of our luggage and the thief just came in and took our luggage away. The situation even was noticed by the owner of the luggage not any of the employees in the restaurant. Even more, the manager came out after the situation happened and blaming us about we put our luggage at the reception result in the luggage being stolen and not their fault for not taking care our luggage, which we just follow the indications they told us. NOT EVEN CALL THE POLICE AT THE FIRST TIME!!! AND NOT EVEN A SINGLE APOLOGY!!! Please do not enter or book this restaurant AGAIN!!! their response and taking no responsibility in this situation is not deserving a Michelin star!

Understated and anti-fancy but pure quality. The food speaks louder than the service. Octopus is the recommendation if needed.

I left Lurra feeling ripped off. And angry. It used to be on of my favourites- a local , buzzy restaurant with great food and decent value- perfect for dinner with friends. Now your friends have to be billionaires! The portions tiny- I mean how can a Spanish restaurant serve two tiny pieces of bread with tasteless tomatoes for £6? We all felt felt they were trying to get you- like I was at a members club like Annabelle's where just breathing costs! The food is good but not amazing and there are now incredible restaurants popping up that are way better value for money. Service wasn't great either- we sat upstairs and while we were eating, the waiter started spraying down the empty tables with chemical spray . I have never ever had this happen. There was a lack of charm and felt perfunctorily. It feels like a private equity company has bought and wants to squeeze every penny from you without doing much. Lurra has left a bad taste in my mouth and not from the food.
