Starters were good. Wine was good. Mains were good, but price-shock at bill time wasn’t. £145 for a steak that was good but not great, shared between 4, wasn’t a happy ending. We were told that the policy of the restaurant is “replace any steak which customers are unhappy about at the point of serving”… which is a strange way of measuring customer satisfaction, as you won’t know what you’re being charged until you see the bill. Nearly £800 for four diners (starters, 3 bottles of wine, turbot, a steak, side dishes)… £180+ per person didn’t feel like fair value. I won’t come again.

I wish i took more and better pictures, but was too busy eating incredible lamb, steak and their infamous Basque Cheescake (gold star). Love this place, the food is always great, but I won’t lie, I go for their cheesecake, this is absolutely one of the best in London. The wine list is also good, and prices are reasonably I would say.

Definitivamente no volveré.

Our go-to spot for dinner, this Basque grill impresses with its small but outstanding menu. The octopus is a must-try—exceptionally soft, tender, and bursting with flavors. The burnt Basque cheesecake is the perfect finale: rich and irresistibly creamy. A truly delightful dining experience every time.

I recently dined at this restaurant and was truly impressed by the amazing ambiance. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, creating the perfect setting for a relaxing meal. As a vegetarian, I was happy to find that they were very accommodating to my dietary needs—though I did call ahead to ensure there were options available. The pan con tomate and peppers were absolutely delicious, with fresh, vibrant flavors. The Spanish tortilla was equally outstanding—perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful. Overall, the combination of great food and a welcoming environment made for a wonderful dining experience. Highly recommend!

Disappointing Service Undermined the Entire Experience I recently dined at Lurra, and while the food was satisfactory, the overall experience was severely compromised by the subpar service. Upon being seated and provided with menus, we waited for over 15 minutes before the waiter finally approached our table. Unfortunately, his demeanor was far from welcoming, and instead of offering any recommendations or guidance, he simply stood there, unengaged. When we inquired about the different steak options, he appeared confused and was unable to clearly explain the choices. We also ordered a bottle of wine, and when the waiter attempted to open it, he spilled a significant amount of wine on both the table and the floor, as though it was his first time opening a bottle. This incident was indicative of the overall lack of professionalism we experienced throughout the lunch. Despite our hopes that the service might improve, it did not. The level of attention provided was minimal, despite there being only four occupied tables in the entire restaurant. After finishing our meal, we found it exceedingly difficult to get the waiter’s attention to request the bill, which resulted in an additional 15-minute wait while the staff appeared to be snacking in the kitchen. When the bill finally arrived, I asked if a service charge was included, to which the waiter confirmed it was. I requested its removal due to the numerous service issues we had encountered. When he returned, rather than addressing the concerns, he inquired rudely about the specific issues we had experienced. I explained the delays, the lack of service, and the mishap with the wine, but instead of apologizing, the waiter became defensive and abruptly walked away. As we were leaving, the waiter, who was casually drinking water at the bar, did not offer a proper farewell. Instead, he made a dismissive remark and began to argue that his six years of experience justified the service we received. Given this experience, it's understandable why the restaurant was nearly empty. While the food at Lurra was decent, the entire dining experience was overshadowed by the unprofessional and inattentive service. It’s unfortunate that such service is causing the establishment to lose customers. I would not recommend Lurra to others based on this experience.

We always enjoy the food here. However, the price has increased quite a bit when we visited this time. What also surprised us is they charge 15% of discretionary service fee. This amount is way off the market for this type of restaurant. It is a great place but not Michelin star / fine dining. 13% - 13.5% would be more appropriate.

Very nicely decorated store with good vibes. Freshly made food on the grill and delicious appetizers. Also quite some choices available. Personally, loved the paprika fries and cheesecake! The bone marrow dish was a bit filling and they gave a lot (than we expected). Also you should definitely have it hot unlike us - as we were chatting and had it when it had hardened at room temp. The dish easily becomes greasy after a few bites but otherwise flavorful and well made. The octopus meat was really soft and tender! However, we did not find a particular liking to the orange sauce but overall the octopus meat was super tender and delicious unlike other Spanish restaurants we’ve tried and tastier than some of the places we’ve tried in London.

We went for dinner today and food was pretty good despite being a bit pricey. And yet we experienced one of the worst service ever while in London. They didn’t bother to change our plates between the courses, then brought a pretty rare ribeye steak (with some blood on the bone) to the table when we actually ordered “medium”. When I said the meat was rare the response from the waitress was “I understand but this is a Spanish restaurant and all of our customers know that we cook the meat a bit less than usual.” So I was literally looked down upon for not having the level of Basque food expertise of their average customer profile, (apparently didn’t quite meet their expectation as a customer!). And the best part is, while lecturing me on the ribeye, they forgot to serve one of the side dishes we ordered and still included it in the bill (luckily I am an average customer when it comes to checking the final bill). Definitely won’t ever go back despite amazing food!

"Great food as always. Disappointing service and ambient: 1) waiter smashing a wine glass on our table and barely apologised 2) given temporary seat next to window glass door so feeling drafty and in the way until moved to a better table after our starters 3) waiter forgot to bring one of the dishes we order (peppers) but charged us all the same at the end 4) while waiting for the bill I saw a mouse popping from the corner near the small window. 5) Ambience too loud (should to something about echos), waiters very nervous not smiling, one of the cooks angrily shouting he has had enough of working for this restaurant. Not remote relaxing, let alone romantic. 6) I complained about the above with the Italian manager. He apologised but only offered a refund for the food we paid for and never received. Too little a consolation for a disappointing wedding anniversary dinner and the hefty bill we paid!

Lurra seems to have all ingredients to succeed but fails on executing with lack of attention to details. Overall rather disappointing experience. Basic ingredients are ok but the chef is not making the most out of it. The tomato bread was excellent, the jamon a bit dry. The filet was chewy most likely due the the way it was cooked (right out if the fridge or for too long in the pan on one side). Plate was cold and no question asked about how the filet should be served. Cheesecake is excellent and espresso ok Overall there is not much missing for the team to make this a great place.

I went to Lurra a few times in 2017-19 and now recently again in 2024. It is a pleasant dining experience with good to very good food, but the new pricing is way over the top and this brings the experience down from 4 to 5 stars to a mere 3. We had a low-key, low alcohol, week-night dinner for 2 and we spent well over £300. That just leaves a sour taste even though the food was delicious. The lamb (main to share), croquetas and burnt cheesecake were standouts. I also enjoyed the sides, however: £15 (+ 15% service charge) for a tomato salad, that is one large tomato sliced and dressed, is offensive. I have eaten as well or better for less than half the price tag (in central London) and for a fraction (elsewhere in England and Europe), so I will not be in a rush to come back.

Over the last 5 years we’ve been to Lurra many times and always been blown away by the whole experience. So we were really disappointed when dining there last night. There was zero engagement or rapport from the waiting staff, and the food wasn’t nearly as good as we’ve been used to. The octopus was not as tender, the portion size of the anchovies had been reduced and they can no longer justify the £6 per portion price. The sharing rib eye is now served rare on a sizzling plate for you to ‘cook’ yourself, and was tasteless and chewy. The cheeseboard and baked cheesecake were good, but not good enough for us to recommend Lurra again. Has management changed I the last year? Won’t be booking again.

Great food and altogether good experience. I would, however, highly prefer if you’re not leading the pack with this service fee nonsense, with yours set at 15%, higher than the current going “market rate”. It’s totally fine to increase your prices, but this hidden negative surprise fee is not ok in general as an industry phenomenon, and please don’t be the leader of this inelegant solution to what is understandably a challenging environment for restaurants… I’m ok to pay up for quality, just not to be blindsided or tricked.

The food was exquisite HOWEVER, the prices don’t match the quantity. You are paying prices of fine dining tasting menu for small bites. What bothered me the most is that we arrived quite early in the night and they claimed that the smallest fish they had was over 1.2kg; for £98 the kg and knowing we are two people of course there will be waste. The fish was also undercooked so that made it even worse. Paying £140 per person with no alcohol is crazy. The service is okay but once again for the price point it should be even better and faultless.

For these prices, I was expecting the most spectacular steak but there was so much uncooked fat and a veneer of grease on the plate that it overshadowed the taste of the meat. It was shocking to be paying over £200 for a steak where 1/3 of it was inedible to us. I was also left wondering why we were paying £15 for a plate of chopped up tomatoes. Maybe they were slightly seasoned with salt but otherwise underwhelming and unexciting. The octopus was beautifully cooked but the piquilo sauce was very bland. We ordered roasted peppers on the side but I don't recall seeing or tasting any chimichurri which was also disappointing. We had come for a birthday meal and I added that detail to the special occasion section in the booking form. However there was absolutely no acknowledgement from the staff about the birthday. the serving staff were polite but overall there was a sterile coldness. Also, the restaurant (or definitely in the area we were sitting in) gave off rich obnoxious banker vibes so that was also off putting. The best thing was the cheesecake which was delicious.

When one passes the unassuming door of Lurra, a wondersome enchantment begins. One almost expects Colonel Aureliano Buendía himself to be minding the till. But no, the first soul you meet is our smiling waitress, whose eyes twinkle like Macondo fireflies. She sweeps us to a table with the grace, the wit and wisdom of Úrsula Iguarán recounting village lore. "The chef conjures something special today," she intimates with a wink. And oh, the alchemy that then transpires in Lurra's kitchens! The soup arrives shining crimson as the buttons on Melquíades' coat, cooled to the perfect pitch by otherworldly forces. The bacalao dances agora y siempre across one's tongue. And the grace notes - aioli rich as gold in Jose Arcadio Buendía's dreams. All from the humblest ingredients elevated to marvelous art by some native magic. By the last sip of reducing txakoli wine, one finds in this out-of-the-way taberna all the generosity, joy and wonder of that little Mediterranean plaza in Aiete brought momentarily to London. The world feels changed, brighter. This is Lurra's quiet magic.

The food was just absolutely delicious, will be coming back for sure for that cheesecake 🎉 Thank you for having us!

It’s more than a month since we dine at Lurra, I am still thinking of the octopus. The nicest of the octopus I have tried to date. Will definitely come again for my next trip to London. The bone marrow and sour dough combination is gorgeous too. We enjoy your lunch every much.

Not happy with the rib-eye, see how much fat we have got left. I guess they just gave all the fat to one plate and we were the unlucky ones. Oh well

Went there a few weeks ago for a wine tasting. The experience was fantastic, we were a group of 20 of us and all races about the food. The pan con tomate, 5j jamón ibérico were amazing, but the star of the show was the aged rubia gallega (gallician blond). And don't pass up ilon the cheesecake, there's nothing like it. Great service as well! Highly recommended!!

Food was amazing. They only have steak for 2+ people, my friend does not eat beef so we ended up getting the pork chop. It was delicious. Just hope there are steak options for one person.

Used to come here a fair bit as food and service was great for the price. However menu prices have since gone up significantly which makes it less attractive. Overall still one of my favourite restaurants in London.

Very disappointing. Been going here for years but hadn't been since Covid. Service was very slow, had to get up and ask for a drink after arriving. Starters were ok, main course of octupus (still excellent) and portk ribs, almost inedible. We left them and told the waitress that they were too tough to chew. She seemed disinterested. Still came in at £300+ for 3. no mention of the awful ribs. Was the best Spanish in town..nowhere near it now. Check out Hispania at Bank...and and no loo roll in the bathroom. Inexcusable for a restaurant this pricey.

I was not impressed that they had to cancel our courtyard booking because we were running a bit late due to traffic - when we left the people who were sitting in the courtyard HAD NOT ARRIVED. But they accommodated us anyway and the food was so perfectly executed, that all disappointment for seating was a memory left behind. For anyone who has experienced the basque "chuleta" meal at a cidreria for 40 euros, knows how insanely overpriced the thinner cut offered at Lurra is - but that said, it IS London, and the meat is something to be experienced if you have not visited the Basque region. The meat is decadent and flavorful. But a Spanish restaurant should always be judged by their croquetas... and theirs rivals the one Michelin Star at Marques de Riscal in Rioja. PERFECT execution and flavor. It was a passport to Spain in one bite. They offered a stuffed squash blossom that also was perfection - not greasy and laced with honey and espelet. Sinfully provocative food, exquisite wine pairings guided by their wine Steward. Beautify food, exquisite service. And an immaculate kitchen and establishment.

Overall, a good experience. The food is definitely not “average” as some reviews claim - it varied from good to very good to exceptional. From what we ate I would break that down as follows - iberico jamon (good), pan con tomato (very good), the mains - leg of lamp and the iberico pork (both exceptional) - the pork tasted so rich and tender you could almost think it was a high quality steak, side dishes of tomato salad and fries (both very good) and finally one burnt cheesecake (exceptional- so light and fluffy/definitely the best cheesecake I’ve eaten). Now price relative to quality brings the experience down a notch - the meal cost c.£270 (incl. 4 glasses of blanc de blanc bubbly and 1 glass of desert wine). I think £200 would be more reasonable. One other thing, the service is slight hit and miss. I booked a table inside (not knowing it would be so warm) but when we arrivedI saw there were 4-5 empty tables on the patio outside so I asked if we could sit there. Note it was about 6.50pm. The guy said he would check and when he came back said to me something like “nothing free currently but if you want I can see if something becomes available in half an hour”. What an earth is this supposed to mean?! The tables are empty - either they are booked before say 9 or 9.15pm or they are not. Anyway, this doesn’t put me off the restaurant and shouldn’t put you off coming here, just slightly odd.

We ordered 2 vegetarian full brunch with vegetables like mushroom, spinach, courgette and avocado with poached eggs. Only the egg and the avocado were served. Once we pointed it out that we were waiting for the food the waiter said Of course but after other 30 minutes he was just hiding in the kitchen. So no veggies available. They offered us a croissant instead. The quality of the egg, salmon and coffee is good but it is very poor however not expensive but I would say that with 6 tables maybe the service can be improved. Very nice coffee though
