Was visiting family in Leeds and wanted to go somewhere for Mexican food as it had been a while since we’d had any. Wanted to visit here after hearing good things. I emailed the address on the website to book a table and received no response. I also messaged the Facebook page and and received no response. As it wasn’t far we just tried on the off chance and thankfully got a table as someone was just leaving, but it was slightly annoying that nobody ever got back to us (and still hasn’t to this day). So I would recommend ringing them direct if you want to book as they don’t reply to messages / emails (in our experience anyway). With all that being said, we had a great meal. Nachos and guac to start with the accompanying sauces, then some amazing prawns and fish tacos as well as tasty drinks. Very friendly staff and authentic Mexican food and drinks. Definitely recommend.

Really good Mexican restaurant. Have been a couple of times now, and both times have been excellent. The food is delicious, and really reasonably priced too. Staff are very welcoming, friendly and attentive and they accommodated us at short notice on valentine's day which was brilliant. There is a lot of choice for places to eat in this part of Leeds, but this is well worth a visit. Would very highly recommend! Parking options are limited, as it's in the yard of a builders merchant.

We had a really great evening at Lupes! As soon as you walk in, the atmosphere hits you around the face. The colours interior, the bustling kitchen and bar, the busy seats! We arrived a little bit early so were shown to the bar where we ordered the cocktail specials and they went down a treat. We ordered a couple more throughout the night. All of the staff were very attentive and friendly! We ordered most of the vegetarian options plus the fish tacos and the prawns. The prawns were quite possibly the best I’d ever had! We ordered another plate of them, so incredible! Thanks for a great evening Lupe’s, we were so happy that we impressed our mates from London with our Leeds food!

Arguably the best place in Leeds for authentic Mexican food. There's a wide selection of dishes, which on the whole are flavoursome and reasonably priced (the cactus salad is a personal favourite). There's also a great selection of drinks (Mexican and local beers, cocktails etc.). Great atmosphere and on the whole decent service.

Great food, lovely atmosphere, friendly service! First time trying cactus (in their 'cactus salad'). Loved it! Definitely a must visit. Will be back in the future.

Hands down the best Mexican food I’ve had in the UK. I’m from Los Angeles and Mexican/American, so I’d consider myself an expert on Mexican food 😉😜. I’ve been told of several other restaurants that had authentic Mexican food, which I’ve gone to, and sadly, I’ve left disappointed. So, of course, I was skeptical about trying this spot, but I’m so glad I was persuaded to check it out. The staff was fantastic, and the chef/owner is from Veracruz, Mexico, and one of the assistants was from Guadalajara, Mexico. Same areas my parents are from. I didn’t get the chance to take photos of my food, but I had a carne asada taco, a fish taco, and an al pastor taco. The favorite was the pastor taco, but all were very good. We also had some guacamole and queso fundido, which were good as well. The prices were just right for the quality of the food and flavor. If you ever find yourself in Leeds, I highly recommend this place if you want real authentic Mexican food. La comida era muy buena, el personal era muy amable y el ambiente era perfecto. Si alguna vez te encuentras en Leeds, asegúrate de pasar para comer unos tacos y tomar una margarita. Muchas gracias por la hospitalidad y buena suerte en el futuro. Hasta la próxima.

Had a lovely meal here before going to a gig at the Brudenell. Service was great from the young staff and the food was tasty and plentiful. Will be back.

So glad I saw this place on maps when I was looking for something to eat on a trip to Leeds, all the food was DELICIOUS, the staff were friendly and I have also discovered a new ska band to listen to from the music that was being played while I was there! Prices were reasonable too. Plenty of vegetarian options, I had the smoked pepper guacamole, veggie enchiladas and a flan for dessert.

Sorry to say that this place serves food that is both overpriced and under seasoned. Disappointing to say the least.

Wow hidden gem! My husband and I drove past this place last year and immediately googled it, we managed secure child care (so we could enjoy our meal in peace) and picked a date to visit. We were not disappointed, it was worth the wait, the food is incredible! Flavourful, heart warming, food dance inducing food. Everything we ordered was delicious and we cannot wait to go back! The service was great and the atmosphere/decor was really lovely too. Next time I will be sampling more off the drinks menu as the Mangorita I had was one of the nicest cocktails I've ever had 😍 Keep it up guys, you have something really special. I'm still dreaming about the Sopa Azteca and guacamole 🤤

One of the best mexican restaurant I have try in englad! Lovely food good price cheff mexican definitely 100% recomendable if you live on the area you need try I recomend to book in first because always its busy! Thanks again for the good time we had here! I have not pictures because food was too nice to think on pictures! I just eat the plate before think on the picture!

Had a lovely meal and will definitely be back, dishes came really quickly and there were a great selection of drinks. Variety of vegetarian options could be improved but loved the bean tacos!

Not been here since before lockdown so I was really looking forward to trying Lupes again. We shared a delicious guacamole and tortillas and some absolutely gorgeous king prawns in a spicy sauce (camarones al Diablo) The flautas and battered haddock tacos were fantastic, not so keen on the cheese fundido which quickly solidified as it cooled. Overall, great food and service and excellent value.

The food was nice, a good "Mexican" experience in Leeds. I would recommend providing corn tortillas instead of wheat. We tried the nachos and they were really good 👍 The team is excellent 👌

Overall we loved the flavours and the place. Enjoyed the smaller dishes more than the main dishes, we found that the tortilla went soggy and broke up which we didn't enjoy.

More flavourful and finesse than a lot of Mexican places but still room for improvement (though I am no connoisseur of Mexican food). Nice to have North beer on tap. Quite busy for a late Saturday lunch.

Great ambiance and decor inside. True to a the whole Mexican theme of the place. Had the steak tacos and enchiladas. Great taste, had a nice spicy kick to it. Would definitely go back to try their seafood options and explore more on their menu. Recommended for sure!

Food fantastic. Lots of choice and good portions. Staff very friendly and helpful. Seating inside and out, and not squashed into small spaces. Parking only on the roads nearby but that's the only drawback. Would love to go again

Went in without a reservation on a busy Friday night but they found me a space. Glad they did! Great food, friendly service, good atmosphere and good tunes in the background. The prawns in chipotle sauce were so good. Not a huge portion but I'll take quality over quantity anytime. If I'm in the area again would definitely revisit.

This place need to have more than one staff member serving. And if you are gonna have 1 staff member serving, please make sure they actually attend the tables of paying customers instead of scrolling on their phone with a face like they despise the world around them. When the food came out, it was good. Compliments to the chef. The younger waitresses are really nice too. If I was to return I would be doing it in the hope that a different front of house was on.

On the first visit, the food was so different, you would think you were in Mexico, We had tacos and enclosures with a cactus 🌵 salad, all the food and service 😁 was excellent, will definitely go again.

Being from the Mexican food capital of the world - El Paso, Texas, I was very pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. I only had the green enchiladas, which were very tasty and the guacamole, which was spot on! Homemade tostada chips were great, too! I will definitely be back to try more dishes.

Really good and authentic Mexican food. We had a mix of dishes, not a single disappointment among them. Salads, tacos, enchiladas and some sides - all great tasting and didn't taste like homogenised town centre chains do. Staff were really friendly and relaxed and the decor and atmosphere made this a really enjoyable experience.

I thought I was a fan of Mexican food until i came to Lupes! Apparently I didn’t actually know proper Mexican food! Wow! What an experience! The food, amazing staff and Margaritas are honestly next level! I will be returning as soon as possible! What a cracking place!! Thanks guys!

1st time here and read all the good reviews.Bigger than expected inside and nicely done out.The restaurant didn't have the heating on so it was a little bit cold.The food portions were quite small but well priced and flavourful.Waitress was pleasant but some bits were forgotten at the table so these were brought when asked. All in all it was ok but you need to order a number of dishes to be filled up. Would come back again now we know that.

My friend and I stopped into Lupe's while travelling back to M'cr. I've never had Mexican food like this before! So many flavours & textures! And so beautifully presented! Authentic, filling, and well-priced. And our server, Molly, was the best!! Why can't Lupe's be closer to home?!! Angie

Despite its humble exterior and spartan furnishings, this is one of my favourite places to eat. The food is reasonably priced, looks simple, and tastes amazing.

Everything here was amazing. My wonderful little treasure find. The staff were friendly from the word go, I pulled up to the bar and everyone made me feel welcome and cozy. The food and drinks were next to wow me. Such lovely attention to detail with all the flavours and hit all the yummy tastebuds I was looking for. Atmosphere was vibrant and colourful, the restaurant was packed by the time I left and rightly so. Will be coming back here again. To totally sweeten the deal the bill was surprisingly cheap considering I got a starter a main and two drinks for just over £20. Amazing! Thank you so much.

Lovely, authentic Mexican food with fabulous service! We shared nachos with 2 fresh salsas which was tasty. I had the lamb (the waitress suggested I tried the sauce first in case I like it). It was delicious. My husband had the enchiladas and a side of black beans. We both had dessert - the Mexican flan was gorgeous. Add in some super cocktails and service with a smile and you've got a great place to ear!

Great little Mexican, has a lovely outside area. Easy to drive past but made a quick turn round. Staff were very Friendly and attentive. The Prawns on Specials were enough to go back for and Lupe Margarita on Rocks was fab. Will definitely be back as desserts looks great.

Lupe's Cantina is an absolute gem. Unfussy, authentic food which is presented well. Service can be a little all over the place but I always tip generously as the atmosphere and food make up for any delays or mix ups. I take my (grown up) kids here for special occasions & we always have the best time. This is true Mexican food - not the ridiculous "Mexi-can't" nonsense that is churned out relentlessly throughout the UK. None of the dishes have any particular kick to them but they do have great flavour profiles. As a classically trained chef I certainly appreciate all the individual elements required to produce these dishes. As a family, we've tried almost everything on the menu and haven't disliked a single thing. Taste is subjective of course and when I cook traditional dishes (mostly Yucatan), they are very different. As a family we adore fresh chillies and strong, vibrant flavours. What you get at Lupe's is a little different but executed brilliantly & thoroughly enjoyable. My absolute favourites on the menu are the cactus salad and the margarita (on the rocks), both are insanely good. To me, a meal at Lupe's is just like going to a good friend's home for dinner. It is welcoming, relaxed, the food is delicious & cooked with love.

Bloody brilliant. Great atmosphere, great food, great drinks, great service, great value. It’s a 5 minute walk from the Brudenell Social Club too! I’m a foodie but by no means very knowledgeable about Mexican food but this is a couple of leagues above owt else I’ve tasted in the UK. Go try but book first!

Pros The food was tasty Drinks were delicious. I had the grapefruit mezcal cocktail which was divine! Nice atmosphere with good music and lovely decor Cons Portions were very small. I had guacamole on the side and it came in the tiniest bowl!! Not worth it for £3 The food was not very spicy. I know they have to cater to all tastes but they should have had chilli sauce or something on the table I had the veggie tacos which were supposed to have black bean and sweet potato filling. The corn toro were delicious but there was one cube of sweet potato in three tortillas. Staff were variable. The waitresses were lovely but the lady with red hair (?manager) was rude and just threw my food onto the table and walked off without a word. She also interrupted the waitress taking my order and sent her away and I had to wait for someone else to come and take my order. She needs some basic customer service skills

Visited this restaurant for lunch with friends and the food was absolutely phenomenal. Our Mexican friend joined us and she absolutely loved the food, it made her feel at home. Great vegan options too (the vegan passion fruit cheesecake was amazing). After the perfectly sized and satisfying mains we proceeded with dessert and it was possibly my favourite aspect of the meal absolutely brilliant and clearly made in house. Would absolutely recommend to anyone considering visiting

As they say, never judge a book by its cover. This place may not look inviting from the outside and it could do with a bit of a refurb inside but the food was great

What a great dinner! Service was great, and it had a real authentic feel to the whole experience. The food was exactly what I was looking for - absolutely delicious. Gutted I live so far away as I'd be back too regularly for my own good.

Good Mexican food ! We arrived about half 7 on a Friday without a booking it was super busy but the staff managed to find us a space. Great cocktails and even though the servers where rushed off their feet for the first 40 mins they still gave great service. Will be back!

Went early in the day so there wasn't much atmosphere. Food was tasty but dishes came out at different times as we weren't told or asked which dishes were for which course. Would like to try again .

We were very excited to try this place as we’ve heard great reviews but for us it was a massive disappointment The food portions are small first of all The potatoes were pretty raw inside The tacos and enchilladas were massively bland the only redeeming thing was the cheese and sour cream The service was quite slow However the drinks were good The hot cheese dip was good too

I was very excited to try Lupe's Cantina following lots of recommendations from friends! It was full on a week night so clearly a popular place. Very reasonable prices but slightly small portions. I chose the beef enchiladas- the beef was really nice but the dish was ruined by overpowering flavours from the sauce. Slightly disappointed overall but I'm sure there other dishes must be nicer!

Just can’t understand how a place can put out food this bad, just awful all round from start to finish. Only reason gave a second star is because the staff are nice and it’s not the front of house that’s the main problem - it’s the kitchen. Why bother writing a review? Because it could save some poor souls a mistaken trip here thinking it was as good as it was when it was getting good reviews - it isn’t. Honestly my 12 year old daughter can cook a better enchilada than the Mexico City one offered at Lupes. It’s harder to even make them this bad. The Mexican people should sue on the grounds of bringing their good name into disrepute! Soggy tortillas only mean one thing - reheated. And what on earth was the chef thinking by tipping an entire pot of pepper over some tasteless rubber cheese and no other substance you could vaguely call fillings? But worse was yet to come the Taco Ensenada is one of the worst dishes I’ve ever been served. Again soggy tortillas on the bottom a tell of a blast in the microwave, a few strands of stringy chicken and a refried bean mole that can only be described with words Trip Advisor won’t publish! Finished off (again) with so much black pepper it made me sneeze. Revolting. Saving grace… Trying to find one.. Wait… Gimme a mo, must be one… Possibly the Guac? No that’s ice cold with no flavour as just been taken out the fridge after being left there hours before like all the others Nachos? I guess yes nachos are edible. Would so dearly love a good Mexican inspired restaurant in Leeds - this ain’t it amigo Sorry…

Second visit and the food remains really authentic and flavoursome. Really enjoyed our visit. Prices are reasonable, though a corona or sol at £3 is a pretty good price. Service is always pleasant but sometimes a little too relaxed.

It gets busy, so booking is recommended, and it might take a little longer for service, but there are some great cocktails to drink, and the food is definitely worth any wait.

Sad to write this as the staff are lovely but the food was awful. Nothing tasted fresh and we couldn’t even finish the enchiladas because it was awful. I hope some improvement is made because generally the place is nice and the staff are so sweet but due to the food we received I wouldn’t recommend or come back.

Excellent is the word we booked here for our first wedding anniversary as something different. We chose to have 3/4 street food dishes and 2 puds to share along with Victoria beer which is amazing the girls working front of house were outstanding

This has got to be one of the best places in Leeds to eat out. Always take visitors here and we're never disappointed. Menu highlights for me are the fish tacos and tres leches. Can be a little noisy over the evening service if it's busy, but that's probably because everyone is having such a good time.

Such an amazing atmosphere, the food, the smell and then the artwork really just tops it off and adds to the feel of the place!
