Lula's Ethiopian and Eritrean Cuisine in Oxford

Outside Lula’s Restaurant, Close to Oxford station, Hoping for a table, To eat some Ethiopian, But sadly they’re fully booked, That must mean it’s really good, And so I’ll sit and wait for my friend, And write a poem or two.

Amazing and tasty food,warm, friendly people and a lovely laid back vibe...what more could you want? We had the chicken gold platter with injera bread; the perfect base to scoop up all the wonderful flavours. Delicious lemon cake for pudding and Eritrean spiced tea( the best tea I have ever tasted.)

We enjoyed two sharing platters between four of us. This allowed us to sample multiple items and all of the food was delicious. The staff were very helpful in guiding us through the menu. They even gave us a sample of the honey wine before we ordered a bottle.

Very friendly and incredibly accommodating to our needs. Would highly recommend - the food was truly delicious and the service impeccable. Most kind and attentive. Look forward to returning. The unexpected live jazz a bonus!

Nearly walk past the restaurant, when my friend pointed it out. It was our first experience of Ethiopian food and we weren’t disappointed. My wife had a spicy lamp dish with really tender lamb. We also asked for a coffee which was so good we had to have a second one. It had a rounded chocolaty flavour (Coffee drinking originated in Ethiopia) Don’t walk past Lulas it’s a real gem of a place.

Delicious food, friendly and very helpful staff who helped us to choose dishes we hadn’t tried before such as the injera, and the beetroot and potato special of the day.

Small portions, expensive for what you get and although made by Ethiopian's, it's a western slant on the food. Bit disappointed.

Lula's in Oxford is a flavorful journey to East Africa. The aromatic spices and authentic Ethiopian dishes create a delightful culinary experience. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff enhance the charm. While the menu is fantastic, a tad more variety would be welcomed. Overall, a solid four stars for an exotic dining adventure.

What a gem of a place! My husband and I didn't have a table booked but popped in on the off chance! As we were going off great reviews and were not disappointed!! The staff were lovely, genuine and friendly and the food was incredible! We'd never tried Etheopian and Eritrean cuisine before and couldn't wait to try it! We were given great insight by the staff on what the dishes were, taking into account your tastes /they'd recommend to try. There is a traditional way of eating but don't let that put you off there was cutlery on the tables and were asked how we'd like to try the dishes we chose to eat adopting the tradional way with your left hand. Using the delicious injura bread to scoop the dishes. We opted for the spicy chicken sharing platter served with lots of additional vegatable dishes which were all absolutely delicious! Everything was packed with flavour don't be put off with 'spice' its flavorful rather than hot spice, if concerned just ask the staff and they can advise you to what may suit your pallate. And how right they were!!! It was really fun the cafe had a lovely atmosphere a relaxed and happy vibe it was clearly popular but not crowded! I had a glass of the honey wine which was lovely and sweet and worth a go! And my husband was recommended beers to try. The whole meal and experience was fantastic! We'll certainly be back again next time we visit Oxford!

Are here this Saturday night for my wife’s birthday. She’s vegetarian and my son and I aren’t, but the mixture of dishes that lean towards vegetarian were outstanding. Such a lovely place, beautifully kind and welcoming. Every dish was excellent, so much flavour and complimented by a pot of spicy tea. I can’t recommend here enough and we will definitely be back. Hidden gem in the heart of Oxford.
