Luigi's in Dumfries & Galloway

I took my Grandson and his lovely fiance for a celebration meal. The service was outstanding. We each had different choices from the menu and had a sneaky taste of one another's dishes. Yummy. I live in Dalbeattie but only go to Luigi's when family are visiting mores the pity. I have never been disappointed with any dish I have had.

Came in with my friend for a lovely catch up and meal. Staff were helpful and lovely. The atmosphere was great very relaxing. I had a fillet steak and my friend had some pasta made to her liking and we weren’t disappointed 10/10 food. Would definitely come again!

We thought this was an option staying in Dalbeattie but when we looked at it - it always seem closed or unwelcoming

this place is fire asl, the outside kinda made me second guess cuz it looks like a fast food place but when i got inside it was proper nice, everyone was talking and the staff are polite and cool . my dad got a fillet which apparently was better then some of the steak specialist restaurants near our home and i got a salad cuz i had a bowl of cereal before coming and you can’t really mess up a salad. we also got puddings, tiramisu which was sooooo good, and profiteroles which was obviously good as well. so yes i recommend going for sure

Old school Italian, pretty decent food for a really good price in their pre 6.30 deal. Friendly staff, good service. Would certainly go again.

Very good meal with my wife and two friends from down south. Chicken marsala was very tasty. Chicken was perfect. My wife enjoyed the salmon dish also cooked to perfection. The pizza was also very good. The staff were efficient and very friendly.

Our third time eating at Luigi’s while staying in nearby Rockcliffe. Not only does the restaurant look run down from outside but the food was very bland. Starters weren’t bad- garlic prawns and a caprese salad but my chicken /chilli pizza was tasteless and totally soggy in the middle. I don’t think I ate more than a third of it. Hubby had a penne pasta primavera which again was lacking in taste. He had to ask for some Parmesan and received a bit more than a thimbleful! Very disappointing and we won’t be back!

Always look forward to takeaway pizza and we weren't disappointed this time either. The tropical pizza has massive prices of pineapple on it and the meat feast is a proper feast of meat. The mince beef on it is especially good. Best pizza we have had in the area

Often go for early dinner here - great service & food, great value for money, lots of choice, great with different needs and requests.

Have visited this restaurant many times over the years and very disappointed this time Food was tastless and bland Service was bad Asked for parmesan and came in the smallest container I have ever seen that the spoon would not even fit in Waitresses never came to ask how meal was if we wanted anything had to keep waving them down to ask for help too busy chatting in the kitchen Bill wasn't itemised was just a small totalled chit Asked for side plates came with large starter plates Very disappointed Luigis get your act together We won't be visiting again ! I have to say we have visited this place many times and this time was the worst Will not be going again!

2 course £12.50 (5 people), several options available, we ordered cheesy garlic mushroom ciabata x 3, scampi x1, pepperoni pizza x1, 3 cheese pizza, 2 lasange & chips, penne mamma mia x1, all delicious hot & plates cleared. well worth a visit, Very authentic italian atmosphere, great service.

I had high hopes for this place after seeing some of the reviews. Not sure if they went to the same place… Service was appalling. Five waiting staff for a half full restaurant and they still took forever to come to tables. I had the worst bruschetta ever in a restaurant. The layer underneath the slices tomato tasted like tinned tomato mushed with some garlic. My main was carbonara. It was disgusting. More like a weak soup with some pasta through it. My partner had a pizza, the reason for two rather than just one star was the pizza was actually ok. Wouldn’t return even if offered a free meal.

Holiday around Dalbeattie every year and always go to Luigi’s. Gorgeous food every time and this year, particularly friendly staff.

We enjoyed a delicious and reasonably priced meal with very good wine. The staff were extremely busy but took time to look after us properly. Excellent menu with plenty of choice. very Italian.

Good points:1) Impressed by all staff with regards to hygiene and use of perspex screens2) Enjoyed garlic bread starter Bad:1) Had to ask for cutlery for starters 2) Mains were really bad, pizzas were anaemic and made with cheap ingredients. Cheap ham used that I wouldn't even put in a sandwich. The pasta dishes were equally disappointing with an uninspiring tomato sauce and lasagna that felt as though it was missing a few layers. 3) Overpriced side portion of veg that came oversalted (especially considering it was for a 1 year old), and equated to a few green beans, broccoli florets and carrots. Overall, really disappointing experience and certainly not an authentic Italian. We've spent the last few days wondering how it is rated so highly!

Visited Luigi's twice whilst on holiday in the area. Was consistently excellent. Chef made a special vegetarian carbonara for us too - very impressed. Also very reasonably priced. Staff friendly. Will definitely be returning.

Visited Luigi's for the first time last night with family, on their reccommendation, for a birthday meal. Only three of us, one child on holiday with school - so felt a bit strange.Staff were lovely - warm but not in your face and schmaltzy.Food excellent - and great portions. Staff happily boxed-up leftovers to take home.We'll be back

Very disappointed AGAIN service just medeoca bunches of young staff just hanging around the bar area not been attentive to customers needs. Prawn starter very disappointing served with limp salad and panzanelle hardly any prawns. Carbonara terrible like a plate of floating milk and not a bit of bacon in sight. Won't be back given it enough chances.

Luigis restaurant I have to say is the best place to eat in Dumfries & Galloway. The service by the friendly staff and attention to detail is by far the best. I have eaten here twice in a couple of months and served is the nicest, tastiest, freshest food I have had the pleasure of having. Visited with friends the first time and three of us had steak. We all said it was the most flavoursome steak we had tasted EVER! The sauces that were served with them were to die for! I had the Filetto della Casa which is a 6oz fillet steak with char grilled Haloumi , prawns, chillies in a garlic sauce, even down to the vinaigrette on the salad, mouthwatering! I have to recommend also the starter of King Prawns with chillies, chorizo, garlic butter and panzanelle, 4 of us had this last night off the Christmas menu. Our party of 8 who dined here last night thoroughly enjoyed our evening, with the fabulous ambience, delicious food and fine wine. I and others in the party look forward to coming back and working our way through your extensive, very reasonable, mouthwatering menu! Thank you Luigis

extremely disappointed on our visit on Saturday evening, squashed in a corner on a very small table for four. two ordered pizza, others ordered pollo marsalla and pollo funghi, both look identical, with the exception of mushrooms on one plate, came with a separate bowl of fries, no veg and no offer of veg as an extra from waitress.Waitress also brought a bowl of black olives which we did not order but she was insistent it was for our table and we must have ordered it, not a pleasant dining experience overall.

Lovely atmosphere, staff are attentive and the service is excellent. We both had steak which was perfect and delicious. Desserts fab too. Will be back soon.

We have eaten at Luigis a few times and the food and service have always been great. But our most recent visit was simply outstanding we had grilled prawns to start then steak that simply melted in the mouth as good as any fine dining restaurant we’ve ever been to!!!The place is so cozy and welcoming like a wee Italian trattoria and with food like this you must try it!!!?

I am a local person who regularly eats at this establishment . It's a hit or a miss . Sometimes I can order food from here and it's really good or it has been in the past . Recently however on two occasions I've had a bruschetta on half a piece of your big standard white bread ( not toasted ) just soggy tomato bread . I have even informed them about this before and tonight received the exact same thing . I know places have good days and bad days ,I work in catering myself . However the quality of the food you give to your customers should always be consistent and of the same quality you advertise .

Reasonably priced, good food, good atmosphere, good service. Vital to book as Luigi's is packed out.

Whilst visiting the area, we discovered the excellent Luigi’s on TripAdvisor and were absolutely delighted by the quality of the food and first class service we received. The extensive menu is very impressive and our choices were all really delicious, very quick to arrive at our table and beautifully served in generous portions. There were quite a few staff on duty, every single one cheerful and extremely efficient, and all equally busy as they worked as one team to serve all the tables together, and with minimal delay. Absolutely brilliant!

So glad we booked to eat here. We loved it. It is a great, traditional Italian. Reminded us of one we used to go to in our local area 20 or so years ago. Really friendly staff and lovely surroundings. The food was gorgeous. We had a huge bowl of olives to start with a great value half carafe of red wine. I had a Gorgonzola, pea and mushroom risotto from the specials of the day. A very good sized portion and delicious. My husband had a pizza. Again, lovely thin base and much enjoyed. Tiramisu for pudding with cream and ice cream. It was excellent. Hats off to the chef and to the lovely, welcoming staff. And the best bit? The bill. £39 for the two of us - olives, 2 mains, wine and dessert. Superb.

Really friendly and well run restaurant. The decor is fantastic and not like some of those soulless modern style restaurants that seem to be all steel and glass. A proper comfy traditional place.

Friends had recommended Luigis for a meal so we gave it a try. We got in for 5pm, and they moved some tables to fit us in. Service was quick but the food quality did not suffer. A little snug inside but it wasnt an issue. We will be back again, very good value for money, I'd would have been happy to pay more for the quality and service we had.

Stayed in nearby Kippford and got pizzas to take away. Good choice at reasonable prices. Very tasty and enjoyed by all.

Visited with family to celebrate my sister in law's 50th birthday. The place has a nice ambience and the food is of a very high standard. Staff were all very friendly and helpful and food was served quickly and efficiently. The only criticism I can offer is that the menu has not changed in years, the place would benefit from a 'freshen up' of the menu and a few daily specials. Other than that - very enjoyable.

This restaurant has a lovely atmosphere due to the good food and friendly, efficient waiting staff. Although the restaurant was busy when we visited the service was excellent and the chef was happy to tweak the items on the menu to suit our particular preferences. Looking forward to a return visit.

Good pizzas but the front of house staff need some training and guidance . They seemed to be lacking in some form of leadership. It’s a popular restaurant in Dalbeattie and the food was let down by this .

Have been to Luigis a few times over the years but had not been for a while and decided to take the family there for my wife’s birthday, One reason for returning is the food and the service is normally very good and I love the peppercorn sauce they do with the steak , well I used too!!

Had a meal here last night, the meal itself was amazing and staff accommodate to our needs perfectly. I had penne Bolognese and my partner had half penne primevera and half pizza as he couldn’t decided between the two. The staff are very well mannered, checked regularly whether our food was ok and if we needed anything else, after our desserts were taken away we were presented the bill with mint chocolates on a little place which was a nice little touch. Would highly recommend to others to come here.

Consistently tasty whenever you go, excellent menu within the rustic Italian atmosphere. Plentiful, tasty and the ladies polished off the carafe of wine swiftly. Any special dietary requirements for our fussy kids were also catered for.

We visited on Saturday with family and friends (4 adults, 3 children) for the early bird menu.

In a sea of mediocrity comes an incongruous gem ! Well we were lucky to get in a full of locals and visitors who were wised up ! We had sharp service with quafable wine , smart prices and really good Italian food ! We will return!

Each year we spend a week in Dalbeattie (wish it could be longer), and we go to Luigi’s every visit.

We visited this place whilst on a family holiday. Food was great, fast service and friendly staff. No complaints.

This is the third time I have visited Luigi’s in recent months and it just keeps getting better and better. Fantastic menu, lots of variety, you can’t pick a wrong dish. Service is polite and slick. Some may say the decor is slightly old fashioned but it all adds to the authentic Italian charm. Keep doing what you are doing. Always a delight to visit and will absolutely return the next time I am in the area, which I hope is soon.

The fact this tiny place is in such a small town is amazing! The atmosphere was great and the service was fast. We booked a table for 6 pm on a Friday night and the place was packed by 7 pm! To be honest, the pepperoni pizza wasn't anything special, but I wasn't too bothered by it!

This was the first time we had been to Luigis and we we went to celebrate a relations birthday.My husband and I both had the fish which we thoroughly enjoyed but felt it should have come with some vegetables included in the price. The litre carafe of wine is cheaper than buying it by the glass and if there is a crowd than a better option. It was very crowded on the night we went and we had to be seated upstairs. Overall we had a good experience and we think next time we would try the two course early bird special which finishes at 6.30 pm

Would highly recommend this place ... cater for every dietary requirement! Never had a bad meal yet! Excellent value for money! You will not be disappointed

We have been coming here for a long time now and we love every visit. Food is lovely and all staff are very good.

After a full day's walking needed food. Although we had not booked and it was busy we were soon shown to a table. The service was very good and the food excellent. Both of our main courses were very nice particularly the lobster ravioli that came with the Sea bass. Desserts and coffee also very good. Excellent choice of drinks. For our last night in the area it was good to enjoy a well prepared meal.

Although we have been coming to the area for over a decade, we had never previously tried Luigis. Did last Sunday and were very impressed Unlike the sterile chain Italians Luigis in Dalbeatie has its own character and its own quirky décor. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. The food was pretty good (no complaints at all) and the house red was fine. All you can ask for in a restaurant!. Will definitely be back

Really tasty food and a friendly, family atmosphere. A family member tried the take away a couple of weeks later and was disappointed but the restaurant was well worth the trip.

We ate here as a large group and I was impressed at the waiting staff. I am very picky about service, having previously worked in a restaurant but could not fault the service here.

We were glamping near Dalbeattie and wanted a family meal for 19 on Saturday evening. Booking for Luigi's was easy as the person taking the booking was helpful and very accommodating for a large party on a Saturday evening. The orders were taken quickly and efficiently and the meals were served hot and all at the one time which is not always the case with large parties. The food was very tasty and everyone enjoyed their meal. The age range was 10 years to 72 years. It was just perfect for us so top marks to Luigi's. Would most certainly return.

My wife and me booked the hotel next door for a couple of nights away from home, we booked Luigi's as we like Italian and could not believe how close this restaurant was to our Hotel. We eat out a lot and love Italian, this is the first "Italian" that I have ever been to where rather than fresh ground black pepper there were plastic containers straight from the supermarket of white ground pepper on the table along with the same plastic containers for the salt (cheap). We were given a table in the middle of the room which rocked every time anyone walked past as the floor was very flexible. We asked if we could be moved and were told there was no other table available (although when I went upstairs to the toilets there appeared to be plenty). We decided to share a bruschetta as a starter so we were not to full for our mains, the bruschetta appeared to be a piece of rustic bread spread with tinned chopped tomatoes with two slices of tomato on top and a little olive oil, we do not complain easily so decided to let this pass. I ordered a rare filet steak and my wife ordered the risotto. After a 35 minute wait my steak arrived very much overcooked with a bowl of what looked like McDonald's skinny fries, I returned my steak and pointed out that I had asked for a rare steak, my steak returned a few moments later medium rare. By this time we decided that this was not going to be a good experience, however we were given a second bowl of skinny fries by way of an apology. Neither bowl of fries were eaten. We ordered a bottle of valpolicella from the wine list which was fine and the only thing right with the meal. My wife's risotto compared to those we have enjoyed in places like Sorrento and Naples, was tasteless apart from some chorizo which gave a little flavour. I believe a number of the reviews for this restaurant are probably from locals who have not had a great deal to compare this place with, it really is poor and as another contributor pointed out it appears to be staffed by very young inexperienced people. Not great.

We love Luigi's, the food is always good, the portions are generous and the service is good. I especially love the seafood risotto. It is definitely advisable to book in advance as this restaurant is deservedly very popular.

Up in Scotland to visit family and apart from their company, the food here was a highlight of the trip. Fresh ingredients , tasty flavours and absolutely beautifully prepared. Two in our party had a risotto and agreed that these were the most delicious risottos that we'd ever eaten. My husband had the pork medallions and thought his dish was cooked to perfection. The seafood was also particularly exceptional, great variety and full of flavour.

Really busy Saturday night, we had a large table right at the back and were probably the noisiest in there! 12 ladies in for a meal after a day out on the Mountain Bikes, lovely food, quick service, staff really good and accomodating.
