We ate here 3 times in the week, that shows how good it was, do not be put off by the appearance outside, could do with with a few baskets. Nice welcome by the barmen and locals. All the meals were very good, Exmoor burger I had twice, lasagne with the best garlic bread I have ever eaten and chips, chicken wrap, falafel wrap both with chips and scampi.

We called in on the off chance of some lunch. We were made very welcome even though the landlord was having issues with the till. Had a great pint of Exmoor Stag. Lunch was great and welcome was as good. Would certainly recommend calling in.

Trip out to local pub on top of Exmoor and typical welcome. This is an old Inn and you will have a wonderful welcome from the staff and the locals. Typical pub food but with an extra twist and care. I had a home made chicken and ham pie in suet pastry. Pie was wonderful and gravy incredible. My wife had stew and dumplings, equally good. The Exmoor beer was equally good. Menu changes fairly frequently and always has surprises. Lovely open fires and a great beer garden in the summer. Really great place and so worth the journey put to a special place

Have been visiting the Lowtrow for over thirty years and have seen the changes over that time, This visit was for food rather than beers as usual. The food didn;t dissapoint and the waiting staff were friendly and efficient, not the quickest service but what's the rush? They were eleven of us to feed. Where I am going to play pool and skittles in Upton now as the games room is the food room!

We were hosting a family cricket match in the area and wanted to find somewhere close by for members of the team to meet for a quick lunch beforehand. There were going to be between 15 and 30 of us! We contacted the Lowtrow Cross Inn, and they were incredibly helpful. They made a special meal which would please young and old (to help us save time and keep things simple) the best lasagne, followed by apple pie and fantastic custard, for the whole part. Utterly delicious! The staff were so flexible with the constant inevitable changes in numbers, due to the pandemic. I would thoroughly recommend this fabulous very old pub. Its a proper pub with really good straightforward homely food. Thank you to all the great staff and management!!

Our visit to the Lowtrow Cross Inn was the highlight of our visit to Exmoor. The reason was the hospitality extended by the owners and every employee working there. None more so than Kayliegh. She is iconic. She is so extroverted, welcoming and friendly every customer at the Inn has a smile on their face. I would add that the atmosphere is pleasant, and the food good with generous portions served. Whatever reason you have for stopping at the Inn, you will leave with a smile on your face.

Was there while staying at the next door campsite for two days and had a meal here on the first night and drinks on the second. On the first (Thursday) night we were welcomed by a friendly young lady with lots of tattoos who pandered to our every need, I believe her name may have been Kayleigh. We had some excellent and filling food which was good value for the size of the meals On the second night we just went in for drinks although had a bowl of very nice chips. Again the staff were very friendly, as were the locals, and we were given a taster of Old J's Tiki Fire at nearly 76% alcohol -- very palatable to me but I suspect an acquired taste for some. Anyway, I can recommend this place for drinks, food and a good time.

Whilst having lunch with friends a bunch of (young farmers) arrived and literally took the place over. The foul language was apparently punished by the group, by eating dog biscuits,Followed by chanting rugby songs. The landlord seemingly joined in supplying more bowls of dog biscuits. This went on for the entire time we were there and we were virtually ignored. This was unacceptable as the pub had a rather large separate room where the (joke of a landlord) could of EASILY placed this group. I can’t really rate the food as the entire meal was ruined by these unruly excuse of people. Iv just been told they were not young farmers they were a shooting party and their beaters. The management really need to take a close look at their suitability at running a beautiful country pub.

When we arrived the booking had not been written down but that been said the Landlady sorted us out - then we found being a Sunday it was a set meal of either Chicken or Roast Beef Sunday lunch. So we opted for Three Beef & One Chicken and guess what- It was very nice and I for one cleaned my plate, then we went on the three deserts and all in all it was nice. We booked a table for the Saturday evening for our anniversary. I chose the crustacean medley and my husband the scampi. Both meals were delicious. The scampi were chunks of monkfish and king prawns with the best chips ever. My meal consisted of mussels, king prawns and crayfish in a delicious garlic sauce. My only quibble would be the miniscule amount of asparagus and pea shoots and no evidence at all of the beans in the salad. It would be better described as a garnish. I asked for some bread to mop up the sauce and was given a slice of lovely homemade bread. Washed down with Thatchers Haze in a lovely, cozy friendly pub, great night! The meals we chose were pricey but worth it and there are less expensive options on the menu.

Made us feel completely unwelcome and showed zero interest in the customers or the quality of food and drink. Food was cold, greasy and overpriced. When I complained I was made to feel embarrassed in front of my family by her challenging and insulting behaviour. One of the locals said that she was previously at a place called the Carew Arms at Crowcombe. I have just read the reviews there and sure enough, it says all the same things. I hope no-one else makes the same mistake of going there. It's utterly dismal. Apparently the former tenants were great and former customers still turn up expecting a good service. No Thatcher's Haze..Which is the most popular Cider in the area..The new Landlady got rid of it..Apparently she knows better than those of us who have drank it for years..Food was freezing when it arrived..Landlady got all surly when we politely enquired if it could be heated up in the Microwave..As a consequence we didn' t bother with the Ice Cream..Lest we got frostbite. My advice if you are driving past? Keep driving.

This pub is once again under new management (from November 16). The new tenants appear to view customers as an unwanted and irritating interruption to their day. Rude, off-hand and unfriendly are descriptive words that really do not do them justice. As one other customer said, there would be a more enjoyable service to be had buying drink in an off-license and food at a supermarket.

Relatives had made a reservation and we arrived the fire was not lit and the place was cold some of us sat with our coats on, we complained several times. I ordered a drink without ice and it turned up with ice , some items from the menu were not available including Diet Pepsi, the ice cream was delivered to the table in the tub. Half a steak was left by a person and three people asked for a doggy bag, I don't remember seeing anyone with this. The place including the toilets were dusty and dirty. None of our party would return again.

We enjoyed a fabulous welcome in this delightful country pub. Warming log fire and great ambience. Wide ranging supper menu gave us lots of choice and finding a gluten-free option was easy - the kitchen was really accommodating. With so many pubs charging way over the top for average fare, it was refreshing to find sensible pricing here. So all in all this pub offers a very good value night out. Heartily recommended.

Having enjoyed this pub over many years it's sad to see it needs a little help to raise its standard. On our evening only one person at bar and eight eating. Average food and average drink and the host knew little of the fair she was offering. Even the fire had gone out, shortly after so did we!

Lovely little country pub with new owners working very hard to make a place on the map in this area and I think they will succeed. Good honest pub food served with a friendly smile and nothing is too much trouble, good luck to them they deserve it, personally I love it

We were staying on the campsite that is at the back of the pub so it was very close and convenient. It was very busy so there was a good atmosphere and they were very accommodating fitting our group of 10 in the back room. The food was traditional pub food, with burgers, steak, lasagna, scampi etc. Well cooked and good sized portions at very reasonable prices.Service was good and we were all able to pay separately without any problem. If we stayed on the campsite again we would definitely eat there again.

I went here for lunch yesterday and thought it was excellent, the new owners are really friendly. I just wanted a baguette, which normally comes with chips, but I didn't really want a large lunch so I asked to go without and that was no trouble. I had a BLT, which came open so you could see how nicely the bacon had been cooked and there was plenty of it with nice fresh lettuce and tomatoes. I sat outside in the nice garden, plenty of tables and the road is really really quite. It's a lot less commercial than the Ralegh's Cross Inn and smaller, which I much preferred.

Visited this pub while we were staying at the adjacent caravan and camping park. Only went in for drinks so can't comment on the food but the menu seemed to be popular. Hosts were very friendly even letting us 'try before you buy'.

This pub is under new management. It is next to the small and very lovely campsite where we were staying. The owners and staff are very friendly and the pub itself full of character. There were a reasonable selection of beers which were well kept. The food was traditional pub grub, delicious home cooked steak and ale pie with chunks of meat and thick gravy under a puff pastry crust and home made chips. The puddings were also homemade and the chocolate and orange bread and butter pudding is recommended! Worth a visit.

Four of us had a great meal at the Lowtrow last night. The new "management" , Nic and Chris have brought a happy smiling atmosphere to a well loved place. My other half and his brother had rump steak and said it was the best! My seabass with potatoes dauphinoise was lovely and the lasagne described as "delicious". Great beer and cider too.

Very friendly staff greeted us and showed us to our table . It was a Friday night and had a nice welcoming atmosphere to the place. We both had the burgers with chips, my partner had the double burger and I had a single burger with lovely handcut chips.. Which is always a plus for me. The meal itself was a good size too so therefore I unfortunately didn't get to try the puddings as I was so full. However I was more than happy with my meal and pint of Devon red cider again a plus for me. My partner enjoyed his meal too. The whole thing came to less than £20.00 with drinks. I will definitely be going back. Thank you for an enjoyable experience.

This Inn is adjacent to the campsite where the family were camping. The premises are not that inviting from the outside but we were pleasantly surprised on the inside. There was a large fireplace and the decor was 'Olde Worldie'. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was of the good pub standard but my steak was not cooked as requested but was still enjoyable. My wife and two children (both in their 30's) enjoyed their food so nothing was mentioned about the steak or the pastry of the apple tart being slightly under done. The food was good value and I would not hesitate to visit again. The premises are under new management and I wish them well.

A very good dog friendly pub with rooms. Rooms clean, food brilliant, friendly staff and dogs allowed everywhere. Only thing that could be improved is the guest entrance to the hotel, very tired and need of updating. Otherwise a brilliant stay!

What a fabulous lunch. There were eight of us who ordered a variety of sandwiches, toasties and cream teas. Food was excellent and great value for money. Service was quick and friendly. People have written reviews complaining about the decor which is actually very tastefully done. Besides, with such great food in a beautiful setting why worry about the decor!
