The best coffee I’ve have in Hampstead…..and the pastries were delicious…..

Came here today and had a fabulous experience, I loved it! Aydin was great & extremley helpful, the food was great and the service was quick! Will definitely be returning here.

I went to the bakery to order a cake for my son’s birthday for 20 people a week in advance and told the manager would call me to confirm the details. I went back again to check a few days after as nobody had called and was reassured they would have called me and all was fine re my order. I left my details again. The day before the birthday I called again and told nobody had informed the manager and it was too short notice (!!!) and they couldn’t make the cake. The manager didn’t even had the courtesy to call me to apologise. Really poor customer service.

I am so deeply disappointed in what this place has become. My parents used to bring me here for my birthday as a child in the 80s and it was a magical experience. I also celebrated my 31st birthday here in 2009 and it was again a magical experience. I live abroad now and was spending xmas, new year and my birthday (2nd January) in London so thought it would be lovely for my dad, stepmom and me to all go back there. Took about 2 weeks to actually get someone to answer the phone to book a table. When I asked for the 2nd January they promptly hung up on me. Should have taken that as a sign! About a week later managed to get through to someone and asked to book a table for 3 people for 1pm on 2nd January. The lady who answered was nice and even asked if it was for a special occasion. So I said yes, my birthday! This gave me hope! We arrived on 2nd January at 1pm and say we have a reservation. « Oh just sit anywhere » yes the place was basically empty but I still wanted to check whether my reservation had been noted. « We haven’t looked » they replied. basically I guess as no one goes there anymore, they don’t bother to check for reservations. I then notice the whole place has changed and it is distinctly unappealing, no charm or atmosphere whatsoever. We sit in a corner and I feel an ice cold draft coming from the back. The cakes didn’t look appealing either. They used to be a feast for the eyes! My stepmother then goes to ask where the toilet is. She comes back saying the toilets are out of order. I responded: « and they didn’t suggest another option?! » So she goes back to ask and then comes back to tell me we can go to the toilets in Waterstones. As I needed the toilet too I accompanied her and on our way out I said, let’s go somewhere else, this is hideous! Plus no toilet. Went to get my father and we hurriedly found another café which was nothing special but at least they had toilets. We didn’t have time to look for somewhere nice. What a lovely way to spend your birthday lunch! Whoever took over this place has completely and totally ruined it and should have changed its name. It is nothing like Louis Patisserie. I was so confused in fact that I asked one of the servers if there was another Louis Patisserie nearby. The place was always packed when I went there for over 30 years. Utterly bizarre what they did to it. And such a shame.

Lovely place but it's a TRAGEDY that they've stopped doing pretzel cakes. Pls pls bring them back

Came here the other day and it was an amazing experience!!! Greeted by the friendly staff and the smell of freshly baked pastries 😍The shop was so cute and was such a nice environment and will definitely be visiting again to enjoy the affordable yummy cakes and toasted sandwiches paired with the great tasting coffee!!!

Horrible experience. I walked in to have a cup of tea at 16:15 on a Friday. By 16:25 all chairs were put up and the staff started cleaning and hoovering while customers were still sitting. I asked the staff at what time they closed and they said at 17:30. It was impossible to stay they wanted you out, so I left. When I asked why they were cleaning they said we will be quick, the manager was watched the whole thing. With so many lovely cafes why bothered to come to a place where management and staff don’t really care.

A favorite in Hampstead, and always worth stopping in. Staff are friendly, tables inside and out, and the pastries are delicious. If they’ve got the heart-shaped ginger cookies in, make sure you get one! Also try the Orange Coffee; orange juice and espresso doesn’t sound like an obvious combination, but it makes for a surprisingly sweet and sour cup that’s really refreshing in the morning!

The freshly squeezed lemonade was exactly what I needed to Quench my thirst in this summer weather. The two staff were attentive and friendly 🍋☀️👌

Very special place and lots of tasty choices

I was in the cafe yesterday I ordered coffee and cake. The staff is very professional, quickly accepted the order and helped with the choice of dessert, I will visit this cafe again, I really liked the warm and friendly atmosphere👍

A friend and I were here last Monday and ordered two drinks with oat milk. The cafe was not busy at all and the staff (a blonde and a brunette woman) were only talking to each other in the corner. The blonde woman brought us our drinks and after we tasted them we asked if they were with cow milk, she said yes, she just forgot. She didn’t even apologise properly. I’ve never come across such bad staff. Thanks for the bellyache.

Always worth a visit but lacks any healthy real eating options. Great tea house nevertheless and a must see!

My favourite patisserie in the area. The place has a very nice decor that gives it a warm friendly vibe. Well managed with happy friendly staff and a good selection of cakes and pastries. Another nice touch is the art work on the walls which is available to purchase.

Came in and had the most amazing experience with a staff memeber named Natalia, she was so lovely and so helpful! Deserves a raise!!!

The staff rolled their eyes when we came in and the coffee was simply undrinkable.

Nice little bakery, with plenty of different pastries, breads and cakes.

I came for a takeaway coffee and was greeted by very nice waitresses and the smell of amazing looking pastries and cakes. My coconut cappuccino tasted good and I’d love to come back to taste some food. One of the few places in the scenic Hampstead which doesn’t give a feeling of chain after chain after chain.

We rested with friends in this cafe and were completely satisfied. An ideal ratio of price and quality. Friendly staff and a very warm atmosphere. The cakes are delicious, the coffee is one of the best we have ever tasted. We really liked the fact that this establishment tries to please every customer. The presentation of dishes is very refined. We were left with very pleasant impressions and we will definitely visit you again and will recommend this cafe to everyone!

Not a great version of this site. Weak tea and no toilets anymore.

Cakes ok but not Hungarian ones as used to be. I ordered a diet coke which was lukewarm. It is not unreasonable in the summer to expect a fizzy drink to be cold using a fridge. Also, no toilet. If you serve food and drink to be eaten on the premises, then there should be a toilet.

Cakes are very average, especially as a tiny slice was £5. Cute place and friendly service. Maybe the savories are better.

Popped in for coffee and cake take away asked to use toilet and was told no they haven't got any ??? Lie will not got there again 😒

Terrible experience. Stale cakes, and management denying they don't have a toilet even though I asked and they said "we go to the pub next door to use the toilet as we don't have one " . Dishonest and awful place. Will never come back and extremely overpriced.

Staff are wonderful and give a very personalised service. They are kind and considerate. The drinks and food are great.

It’s a cute little cafe that has sandwiches, rolls and cakes. It was a perfect place to hideaway from the rain.

Only cafe in hampstead with an empty table - this says it all

Lovely little place serving great cakes/tea... However, NO toilet/NO Wi-Fi and super-pricey, music playing in here is enough to send anyone jump off the cliff!! It's enough to make any happy person depressed in an instant! No wonder it's empty (weekend!!). Sorry guys, things need to change to gain the customers back!

My favorite place in Hampstead.

Average pastries at expensive prices - £3.60 for a strawberry doughnut with a tiny amount of dry tasteless jam filling. Coffee wasn't great either. There's also no toilet in this cafe despite there being space for around 15 people to eat in.

I ordered a Matcha Latte and got a warm cup of milk, no matcha inside. The staff seemed nice but can’t recommend the place as I spend almost 4£ on a cup of warm milk.

It was like going back to what a coffee shop was and should be like, fantastic food and value.

I bought a savoury pastry and a sweet one. The sweet one was average, the savoury one very bland, I couldn't finish it. Also, the staff need training. After waiting for minutes for the pastries I ordered to be (very slowly) wrapped, so that I can pay and leave, another customer came in, probably someone they know, so they stopped wrapping my cakes and started serving the new customer and came back to me only after they were done with her. Not going back, there are enough good patisseries in the area.

Husk of its former self. Breads, cakes and pastries are obviously and without shame bought separately out of house. What once was a lovely shop is now a gimmick of what once was...

Really enjoyed my time there and will return. Reasonably priced for the area and the staff are exceptionally friendly.

Louis' used to be a gem when I was a student in Hampstead, full of elderly Viennese jewish ladies eating various tortes with schlagsahne, but it has been reduced to a shadow of its former self, staffed by a gagle of 19 year old girls and serving a small selection of average pastries.

Friendly staff ,fresh , amazing, tasty patisserie and amazing coffee!!! Nice area

Until recently the Louis Patisserie looked like it hadn't changed for decades: beautiful wood panelling around three walls, and delicious coffee and cakes brought to your table by the waiting staff. The place is now a cheap and tacky sandwich shop. The wood panelling has been painted cream. All that beautiful wood grain hidden under paint. So if you see old photos here, don't believe them. We ordered cakes for old times sake but there wasn't much choice and they weren't very good. A great place ruined.

Staff are always warm and friendly, so decided to give their birthday cake a try for my partner's upcoming 30th birthday. Ordered the cake on Friday for a Monday morning pickup, and left them with my contact details. Then on Monday when I walked in, the staff told me the manager told them she/he had called me, explained that they could not make that particular type of cake in the size I asked for, and have kindly asked me to take another pick from their selection. I'm sure as they explained it, they knew I never received the phone call and felt bad for me and the situation. I am writing this review because I find the miscommunication understandable, but the amount of details involved in that phone call that I never received frankly unacceptable. Thankfully the birthday was on Tuesday so there was time for damage control.

Used to be marvellous. Now you pay a lot of money for what looks and tastes like cheap cake. Won’t be going again. Sad as it was really good.

Best strong coffee in the area.

A cosy old tea room serves delicious Hungarian pastries and aromatic tea. There is a branch on Finchley road, Swisscottage.

This place is not hungarian anymore . I knew Mr Louis and also his wife too for many years , they had the shop for 50 years and was original hungarian coffee shop. Well not anymore the people who took over haven’t got a clue . They are selling Costco cakes when they have all the tools to bake their on cakes at the back of the shop.

The Danish was lovely, but the coffee was cold and bitter.

I came in today in to Louis Patisserie for a coffee and cake it was excellent and very nice The staff were friendly and helpful I will be back again soon 😄

Nice green tea and apple cake plus coffees

A remnant from pre-swinging Sixties London retains a low-budget period décor from a bygone era, reimagined as a whisper of elegant Austro-Hungarian émigré café society. But that was then; what lingers here is dated rather than venerable. Now find an indifferent dabble of pastries, cakes, buns and breads, teas and coffee. Out of time, out of touch and outmanoeuvred by a bevy of local competitors and wannabes but somehow, possibly all the better for it.

Outstanding, high quality patisserie. Have now tried the baked cheesecake, apple cake/tart and the poppyseed roll. All are quite outstanding - light and not at all too sweet. The cheese cake is the fluffiest ever and the apple cake / tart is brimming with apples. After searching for a decent poppyseed roll for many years, I have finally found one. All are really excellent.

Please stop calling yourself Hungarian! I hadn't been to Louis Patisserie for awhile, so checked on Google if it still existed. I was pleasantly surprised that Louis was indeed open. Since I live almost a 3 hour drive away, I called ahead to verify if the bakery was still under the old ownership and if the pastries were actually Hungarian. I was informed by a woman that this was the case. I have just driven three hours to find a Louis Patisserie with a changed interior and selling the exact same cakes and pastries that I can get at Costco for a quarter of the price! What an absolute scam! There is not one Hungarian cake, pastry or bread available and nothing is homemade. Shame on the woman who I spoke to on the phone for lying to me! If I wanted Costco cakes, I would have driven 15 minutes to Costco to buy them. Not 3 hours to be charged 4 times the Costco price! Please avoid this establishment, as all you will be served is dishonesty and disappointment!

A nice cafe. It has changed a bit since the cafe was sold, but still quite nice. Good coffee, lovely staff, amazing location. No lavatory though, which isn’t great.

Once upon a time there was a wonderful café. Everything was fresh and amazingly tasty. The owner of the café Mr Louis who was a vulnerable and elderly man was never taken care of and unfortunately due to many of his illnesses one day he closed his eyes to the world. Once he was gone the café lost it's soul too and never felt the same again. I remember very well when Louis fell very ill one day and wasn't able to lift himself up from the floor, he contacted the staff at the café at the time in desperate need of help to be lifted up off the floor. Instead of reacting in a caring manner they chose to laugh out loud as well as make fun of him and never ended up going to help. If I knew at the time where he called home I would never of thought twice to help and support the vulnerable man. Many month's later Louis passed away the café however was know owned by those staff member's who at the time where Louis really required help never ended up seeking to his presence ...

Really great European patisserie - we usually poke a head in for less sugary, less Americanised options. They prepare really nice beverages (can definitely recommend their cappuccino) and they also have quite a few snack-y options. My only criticism would be that they have fairly few "small eats", their sandwiches tend to be on the larger side. Great value for money but not necessarily ideal when you're looking for something lighter. All in all, I would definitely recommend!

I can't forget the cheescake I ate here.

Louis Patisserie has been around since 1963. Considering the sorrounding area is littered with bakeries amd coffee shops including Gails, Karma Bread Bakehouse and Roni's Bakery, they must be doing something right. They are. For one the selection and variety is great - cream buns, fluffy slices, gooey eclairs, fruity tarts, almond pretzels, macaroons, marzipan cookies and chocolate cakes. My favourite is the Hungarian plum brioche. It is sweet and moist with a gentle sour taste of plums. The wide selection is matched with warm, friendly, authentic and knowledgeable service. Price wise it is in line with local prices with a slight premium over the national chains such as Pauls. While the interior has probably not been updated since Louis Permayer arrived to London in the early sixties from Hungary it has character - studded brown leather seats, wood panelling, tiny round tables and spherical lights. If you are in the area, head down Heath Street, less than 100 meters from Hampstead tube station.

Been going to Louis longer than I can remember and it’s definitely not what it used to be. Quality has gone down and prices up, still good but my visits are less frequent now.

Old school coffee shop, a lovely selection of cakes, sandwiches and bread. The coffee was really good and the staff were friendly and attentive. It makes a nice change from the run of the mill coffee shops in the area

Coffee and buns - I passed this bakery by chance. I had to buy coffee and bun to take away as it was during lockdown. The coffee was good and strong. The walnut knot was lovely. Not too sweet but full of flavour. I also bought a long poppy seed roll, a bit like a Hungarian Beigli but without the nuts. It was delicious! The assistant who served me was charming and polite. Hope to go back when we can eat indoors again.

Absolutely disgusted by the employee mistreatment I have witnessed today! I've been really disappointed in this bakery—be it the sky high prices, the lack of a restroom, or the desserts that are claimed to be prepared in store but are in fact delivered!!—but what's happened today has made me never want to set a foot in there ever again. I was completely put off by the ill-treatment of an employee when a conflict arose between them and a customer. The manager wasn't even present at that time but upon involvement has immediately taken the customer's side without questioning. She'd let the customer yell at the employee and would further scold them in front of everybody. You see, it's not always about the cakes or the coffee, it's about people too. And I refuse to support a company that lets this kind of behavior slide and ultimately creates such a hostile work environment. I encourage you to do the same. This is unacceptable.

Looks great in the store but everything I purchased was stale

An integral stop off in Hampstead.

Visited the shop 3 weeks ago as I wanted to buy some "Dobos" cake (it's a well known Hungarian cake) Unfortunately there wasn't any available in the store. I have asked them if they can let me know if they consider making any of this cake again, the barista took my email address and assured me that they will let me know either way. I also sent them an email, just in case (found on their website) 3 weeks later still no reply... This does not look like a good customer service.

Nothing special meals at atrocious prices.

Hampstead is a lovely area and the interior and vibe in the Louis Patisserie is nice. However, they need to get rid of their chef. Whoever is making the pastries or cakes is not doing it well. For the prices they charge, it needs to be much better. They offer a Hungarian poppy seed roll (mákos bejgli), for example. If you go to Budapest you can taste some excellent examples of this. Sadly Louis Patisserie's version is no good by comparison. To conclude: for Hampstead, the standard needs to be MUCH higher. I hope Louis Patisserie do something about this and go on to offer something on the same level as the leading bakeries in Budapest, or indeed Vienna.

Cakes improved nice old worldly atmosphere real leaf tea in China cups

Not up to its normal standard as the cake selection wasn't as varied and extensive as usual. Also service was slow as although we got our hot drinks first we had to wait for our cakes. There wasn't many people in the cafe so we couldn't understand why we had to wait

Really really friendly staff! The eggs are beautifully cooked, and the sour dough is also the best choice of the day. Simply tasty! We enjoy very much of our coffee too. Def will come back!

Awful customer service - staff are unfriendly and seem absolutely clueless about what they’re doing. Didn’t try any of the cakes but the coffee was dreadful.

Cosy place and friendly staff. Coffee and cake like your mum or grandma would make it. Feels like home.

Not many of the original Hungarian cakes left here, but still it was super delicious with great coffees and teas accompanying the Hungarian cheese bake. Tasted just like my grandma's :)
