Good food, better than a takeaway. Fast service.

My new go to Chinese! Amazing food, I ordered to takeaway and the food was freshly cooked whilst I waited and was still hot by the time I got back home! I was served quickly and didn't have to wait very long at all for my order even though the restaurant was full and everyone there appeared to be enjoying their meal. It had a very warm welcoming feel about the place and it was very clean (even the windowsill was spotless!) Food tasted amazing and the portion sizes were good and offered excellent value for money. Excellent easy parking also. I will 100% be returning as it was worth the 40 minute round trip.

Make sure you give the girls their tips only to them as the manager takes the tips off them and the golden pig is not for the staff uts for their family instead

Absolutely love this place. My only comment would be it can be hard to get in as it fills fast and isn’t the biggest place. Food amazing service amazing! You must experience it for yourself! Our favourite treat!

Best Chinese restaurant in the area, been several times and never disappoints. Food is hot and freshly cooked, restaurant is clean and tidy and staff friendly and efficient.

Went to the lotus lounge lastnight there was 8 of us in total 2 adults 4 teenagers and a young boy 6 of us wanted the buffet think it was £22 each and 2 wanted something off the menu but we were told this wasn’t allowed we all had to have the buffet even the younger boy who we were charged for full price even though he didn’t eat that much I couldn’t fault the food tbh or the young girl serving it was the older woman serving our food who was really rude NO SMILE and after bringing our starters which were really nice so we ordered same again it was like they then turned their attention to other customers as it got busy really quick and seemed annoyed when I wanted to order more just felt like we was waiting a long time to get their attention. Our bill came to £228 and the only smile I got off them was when when my payment went through on the card machine can’t fault the food but the owners defyowe a lot of gratitude to their chef as if it went on their service to customers they wouldn’t stay open a month won’t be having my money again when I go out I like good food n good service

Food was nice but a little on the warm and not hot side. Not enough to choose from especially in the starter menu. Service a little slow but I suppose a rest between courses isn't bad. I know it's eat all you want but the portion sizes on the starters are too small but that's just my opinion so make sure you order 3 or 4 dishes at a time. I always give places a second chance to impress so I will be back to see if is better.

First time tonight.Had the all you can eat menu ,food was great ,freshly cooked and bought out hot.Me and my wife had 6 starters ,2 mains rice & noodles 2 desserts with 3 drinks and 2 tia maria coffees all for £58 brillisnt value

So why only 3 stars? the restaurant is very nice with receptive staff and for those eating without dietary requirements very good. However if you are Gluten intolerant or Celiac then please avoid. We were assured when making our booking that the restaurant could accommodate my wife's Gluten free requirements, nothing could be further from the truth - when asking for what she could order from the menu she was told Crispy Seaweed and Sweet & Sour Chicken and Boiled Rice/ This was an Eat as Much as You Like evening and about 95% of the menu was 'out of bounds' to her. We know and appreciate the difficulty of catering to all diets but these guys literally had little to no knowledge what so ever, saying words like "I think it's OK..." to which naturally anyone who is Celiac would have absolutely no confidence in at all. Please note this is just our view and I will reiterate - the staff, the food and the restaurant were all very good and 3 of our number had very mice meals.

I went during the week with a friend, it seems that the only menu was the all you can eat buffet, everything was served as small portions, and a lot of the fried food was a bit greasy. It was OK, but I felt a bit disappointed by the food. The tables were functional rather than nicely set. Was surprised to be given dinner plate and knife and fork, rather an odd feeling in a Chinese restaurant, a bit too anglicised for me.

We visited on a Saturday night for a family birthday. We had obviously booked the last table as every other table was occupied - I took this as a good sign and wasn’t wrong. The food is all freshly prepared and everything was delicious. It was an all you can eat arrangement (I’m not sure if this is only at the weekends) and the food appeared very quickly after being ordered with the waitresses constantly clearing away your plates and asking for your next selection. Service was attentive and friendly despite the place being completely full.

First time visiting this place and it did not disappoint. The food was lovely and the service was good too. Actually can't wait for my next visit

We have visited twice now in the past 3 weeks and are coming again tomorrow. This place is an absolute gem. All you can eat menu but cooked fresh to order. Portion sizes are perfect & you can reoder as much as you want - except the duck which you can still order twice!! Best of all it includes pudding - fritters & ice cream & the coffees are very good value for £2.50. Highly recommend!

Went with my 2 kids for all you can eat lunch. Was never going to go again after a vile experience last time with little old man but was told he had been sacked , so we gave it another try & not going to lie it was amazing from start to finish. Nice chilled atmosphere & very friendly staff. Well done for getting rid of him , we will definitely come again now & also will tell others that wasn’t coming no more bcos of him that he as gone

A Lovely All You Can Eat freshly cooked Sunday Lunch. The Starters were excellent, we had Chicken and Sweetcorn Soup, Ribs, Yuk Sung, Chicken Satay, Won Ton and Vegetable Spring Rolls. Mains Mongolian Lamb, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Egg , Special Fried Rice and Chips. Ice Cream to Finish Sparkling Water and a Cola for Drinks Everything Piping Hot, Good Quality, Attentive Service. The Bill came to £18-00 each, which seemed like Good Value to me. Definitely be calling again.

We stayed in the area last week and decided to try this Chinese, from outside it didn’t look much but we went in anyway, so glad we did the food was excellent it was an all you can eat buffet this was a Wednesday night and it was quite busy it was £18.90 each and they cook what you order from the menu would recommend it, if ever back In this area would try it again, but we’ll worth a visit.

Can’t believe I’ve never been here before. What a lovely place. Gorgeous food and good value. Just be aware that the prices on the website are out of date and don’t match the actual price in the restaurant. £5 pp more than we were expecting. Still great value though.

As first time visitors on the occasion of my wife's birthday we didn't know what to expect at the Lotus Lounge. We didn't realise that on Fridays and Saturdays they have an all you can eat menu and to make things easy that is what we went for. The bottle of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc was quite passable and went nicely with the food. The menu says that for a table of two to choose 3 starters. The waitress urged us to choose a 4th which we did. The chicken and sweetcorn soup was delicious, the prawn toast the best that I have had in England, the ribs were also very good. Unfortunately by the time that we got around to the crispy duck it was a little cool but still nice. I don't know how some of the customers can manage to go through the starters two or three times but they do. The service was attentive without being in your face and when the main courses came along they were also of good quality and taste. Pity that they were out of Lychees though as they are one of my favourites with ice cream. A very nice meal all around. My wife did say that it wasn't as posh as she'd expected? but she was well satisfied with the food and service.

We arrived 15 minutes early to our booking. We were then asked to leave and come back in 15 minutes as our table wasn't ready. We left had a drink at a local pub came back and the table still was not ready. 10 minutes later we got seated. Our drinks order was taken then our food order. Our food came before the drinks we had to chase our drinks 3 times. Finally we got our drinks. Ate our starters then we had to ask to order more after 15 minutes of waiting for someone to come back multiple orders they got wrong missing items just not very attentive. The food was good and the price is fair. Maybe a fresher in customer service would help

Me and my partner visited today, 6th November, for lunch. I have never visited despite living in the area all my life. We were the only people in when we arrived but it soon filled up. It’s all you can eat for £13.90 which we will think is very good value, especially at the moment. A superb range of starters, mains, desserts and sides all made fresh and served at the table. Food was really, really good. It’s more authentic than your average Chinese restaurant in the UK in my opinion. Sauces are delicately spiced and flavoured which makes a nice change. Total cost of the meal with drinks for 2 people was around £35. You can’t go wrong really. I will definitely be a returning customer.

We’re regulars here & have been so for a few years now. Always good, efficient service & freshly cooked food (as much as you want!). Sam is the ‘old man’ - he’s been quite unwell with severe mobility problems and it looks like we might not see him back. Which is a shame as I know he annoyed some customers but he is really quite a nice person & added to the atmosphere!! Back again next week for our regular ‘fix’!! David & Jacky

Been here a few times but this was our first visit for Sunday lunch (£11.99 pp). We took some friends with us who hadn’t been before and they were blown away with the food and attentive service. The pictures don’t do it justice. Small plates much better than piling it on buffet style. 4 people, Two bottles of wine £80.

We went as a family of four and enjoyed the food and service, I must admit unlike some reviews on here I used to like the old man and found him really funny. I do believe he has now left and I found it a little weird without him. Maybe the management have made an executive decision too bow down to the pressure and put him out to pasture. The food is always nice and the service good.

Got a take away last weekend for 4. Phoned in the order but had to wait a while as the restaurant was busy. The portions were generous & ok but nothing special, big standard food and I wouldn’t return based on this experience.

The food is really good however the service by the old man is appalling. Take him out of the restaurant and you would have a 5 star rating every night. He is rude, blunt, slow and unprofessional. The female staff are wonderful, polite but unfortunately we didn’t get any of them. The old guy insists on taking everyone’s order in the restaurant before taking it back into kitchen which must put a lot of pressure on the chef. The food is amazing when it does come. However for an all you can eat restaurant I would recommend either dynasty or springwater as they have the full package. I will not be back here unless they move the old guy back of house or retire him as he ruins the whole experience

We regularly visit the Lotus Lounge usually on Sundays but last week we tried a Sat night visit. It was fab . Great service from Angelina the host and lots of hot fresh food served quickly. We loved the starters, we always ask for a selection to start the re order specific items and for the main course we had Mongolian lamb which is amazing and a range of other dishes including king prawn sweet and sour, crispy chilli beef and chicken. Very attentive service with plenty of waiting staff. Its £18.50 for Sat night all you can eat, it was probably one if our best visits .....and were going again for Sunday lunch soon. Give it a try, plenty of food, good service and free parking outside, what's not to love

We went to The Lotus Lounge for Chinese new year and were disappointed to see Sam had lost his cheery smile and laugh, instead replacing it with very sharp answers and a scowl! He must have been having a bad day as this is very unusual for him. Maybe the pressure of Chinese new year was getting to him?Onto the food, very good as always but the crockery it is served on all seems to be chipped now. A massive no no when it comes to good food hygiene. Some of the walls are looking tired now too with paint chipping off the wall etc. Please get this place back up to the standard it was, it is the only Chinese restaurant we liked in the Ripley / Alfreton area.

Called for a quick lunch, good choice. Just the right amount of food. Nicely cooked, light and not greasy. A sweet lady served us, making for a pleasant meal.

Came here for our works Christmas do and was basically treated like crap, to being seated in the entrance area with hardly much light, to the man (manager maybe) snatching the menu out of my friends hand, telling us what menu is best and how he can't move us to another table with better lighting as the place was booked up. Disgusting service!!!

We arrived for our work Christmas meal which I had booked over a week before. We were put on a table near the reception/bar that hadn't even been prepared for our party. We were handed the all you can eat menu and had to ask for the a la carte menu to be told "everyone like this menu", we had to keep pushing the point to see both menus. The older gentleman serving us actually yanked the menu out of one of my friend's hands.The lighting was really poor and we couldn't read the menu so we asked if we could have another table, to be told very abruptly that they were always very busy with regulars so there was no table. We then asked if the lighting could be made brighter by our table and were told no. The man was so rude and abrupt throughout our short visit that we paid for our drinks and left without ordering. I've never experienced such rudeness in any restaurant anywhere in the world.We managed to get food and much better service at a packed Wetherspoons, later.

Had booked a work meal here for last night. I can honestly say I have never met such a rude manager in my life.Firstly we were stuck at the front of the bar IN THE ENTRANCE. The lighting was shocking and my colleague was sitting with the Christmas tree stuck right behind him.We clearly wasnt happy and asked to be moved . The manager snapped at us and we were told "He was very busy and would move us if a table became empty ".Fair enough however he literally spoke to us like were were annoying. His attitude carried on as he explained the menu.. at one point I had the distinct impression he thought that he was doing us some kind of favour for letting us be in his restaurant. Needless to say we paid for our drinks and left . The only ONLY saving grace was the young waitress who was clearly embarrassed by his behaviour. Never again.

Used to absolutely love this place until my visit today!Food is good for an all you can eat, service is adequete to slow, and normally the staff are friendly and attentive. Not tonight however.We arrived five minutes before our meal, and because it was raining outside we asked to be seated early before the last member of our party arrived. We got to the table and sat down, leaving one spare seat that was the size of two place setting rather than one. (I feel i should add at this point that i am a big man, over 6ft, overweight, you get the idea.) The waiter came over and asked if i wanted to move across to the bigger seat, i said i was fine thank you (It made more sense to leave the seat closest to the door open for the person who hadnt arrived yet), yet he stood their and insisted, and i quote, "No, you Large Boy, move to bigger seat" and would not move or stop making a scene until i moved across. I'm under no illusions about my size, but i do not need service staff to make a scene about it, it's my choice if i want to sit next to my friends and be cramped.

Love visiting the Lotus Lounge for the £10 ‘all you can eat’. All of the food is fantastic- extremely tasty and the staff are polite & attentive!

We have been eating at lotus lounge for years now, visiting regularly. We can honestly say we’ve never had a bad meal and the food is always hot, fresh and full of flavour.

Been tonight with a large group of friends and what a fantastic evening, food was plentiful and varied with loads of different dishes just put on the table to try, we all ate and loved things we would never normally order, can highly recommend this place and the staff are fantastic with fast service.

We came this restaurant for my husband birthday. The food were delicious, staff were very friendly. Super clean restaurant. Excellent place for dining out. We will definitely come back again.

Our table was booked for 8pm, we arrived on time and were seated promptly. We were all drinking water which wouldn't make them any money and the waiter didn't looked happy. We were rushed with out food order, there was only one other table occupied when we arrived in the restaurant and come half 8 they had left which prompted the staff to start sweeping up around us...not good whilst you are still eating!! The waiter took our orders for our main course and advised that the chef was going home ..... if you want a dessert all you can have is ice cream!!! ..... what a waste of money!!!! The restaurant is like a canteen with no atmosphere, no background music.... the waitress was a lovely young girl who was just flowing orders from her rude, arrogant boss!! ... needless to say, we wont return.

Recently moved to the area and was looking for somewhere close and nice to go for a meal. Got recommended this place and very glad we went. Good food. Attentive staff. Will go again.

Booked a table for 9pm with friends, was told to stand outside as too busy, very rude, very unprofessional, gone to the Indian around the corner ( Mumbai masala) who were very friendly and welcoming. I’ll never go to lotus lounge again in my life. Avoid!!!

We went to Lotus Lounge as we were visiting friends in the area. We pre-booked a table and were immediately greeted by very friendly staff. We were informed it was an "all you can eat" for a set price. The staff were attentive and very good with our 2 year old who loved the attention. The food was fantastic and when we got the bill were told that they had not charged us for our child. This was very generous given the amount our little monster ate! To summarise, great service, fantasic food and we will be returning when we are back in the area!

We have been visiting Lotus Lounge regularly over the last year, in that time we have always had the most fantastic service and beautifully cooked food. The buffet menu offers lots of choice all cooked fresh and brought to your table. The price is very reasonable. We highly recommend, you won't be disappointed

We visited on a busy Friday night, the service was brilliant, the manager was very welcoming and checked on us after each course. To say it's an all you can eat the food tastes so fresh and comes out red hot.will definitely return

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Food was very tasty and fresh. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The only (very very minor) downside were the menus which were a little tatty. But it didn't impact on our meal.

Been walking by this place for months WOW the food and service is fantastic 10+. I will never eat anyother place now we have found this little gem.

Visited with my husband and 2 children whilst on a 2 day break in the area after reading the good reviews on Trip Advisor. Received a warm welcome, clean interior, nice atmosphere. We all had the all you can eat buffet and wernt disappointed. Tried most of the starters and my son also had one of the soups which he loved. All food arrived hot and was tasty. We were asked if we wanted more starters ahead of ordering our mains and wernt at any point rushed or had our plates taken away too soon. The staff were very accommodating, bringing a chicken fried rice that wasn't on the menu for my children and serving a chicken in black bean sauce without mushrooms for my husband. We all ordered ice cream for desert as we were too full to try the other options. We left very satisfied with our choice and would return again if in the area.

Absolutely amazing food, great prices and friendly staff.

I’ve only given this a 2 star rating, as most of it was either over cooked, rushed or forgotten about. My main course arrived only after a prompt and the rest of my family were halfway through theirs. We won’t be rushing to come back, food was of an average taste. Also when we came to pay the bill, then were we only told it was cash only as the card machine was broken!

Having been here twice before and not being impressed I thought we would try a 3rd time as only fair. Unfortunately, very tastless food with the Chinese manager insisting every mouthful of every course must be finished before ordering more. We overheard him telling a lady on another table to eat a chicken wing. Even when we had finished he insisted on us waiting to order more even though it's an all you can eat. He asked me how the food was and I said the sweet & sour was very watered down and he laughed and walked off. Definitely won't be a 4th visit

Really handy Chinese restaurant with very friendly staff and owner is the best!! The starters are brilliant with a wide choice and continuous extras if required. It's buffet style, but all the food is freshly cooked for you. Great prices, 3 course meal on a sunfay is £12. In the week it's dearer.

Me and my friend went for food here as advised due to hearing good things, however, it wasn’t good, it was absolutely appalling. We ordered a jug of water which took 10 minutes to come, granted the restaurant was fairly busy but the larger tables were leaving, and it doesn’t take 10 minutes to fill a jug up with council pop. Fast forward to the starters, I ordered the vegetarian option for myself, which came on a plate with chicken and covered in the sauce, so I couldn’t eat it, and that’s not me being a picky veggie either, we let them know and they apologised and said they will bring me some more out separate, which obviously is good, apart from I had to wait a while whilst my friend had already finished hers. We ordered the ‘crispy’ seaweed to share as well, safe to say it wasn’t crispy and tasted like it had been chewed up and spat on the plate. So no we didn’t eat that either. There was multiple complaints going on across the restaurant, and many people said they felt sorry for the poor waitress taking all the complaints and doing all the jobs, kid deserved a medal. The staff members, especially the manager were incredibly rude. So we asked for the bill for our poor meal and they didn’t consider any of our complaints and tried to charge me £17.50 for the 5 spring rolls I’d finally managed to eat, the manager was rude and said ‘pay first then we’ll discuss’. Instead of trying to solve a situation, they just wanted to argue. safe to say I wouldn’t advise this place and safe to say I wasn’t going to and didn’t pay for that meal. Definitely won’t bw returning.

The waitress' could do with some customer service training and 2 of our dishes were forgotten about, but we understood due to being a busy Friday night. the gent I presume to be the manager was very attentive and made up for these issues though. Food is amazing and plenty of choice unlike most oriental restaurants.

9 of us went and it was lovely fast serving great food plenty to choose from did things that wasn't on menu.

This is an all you can eat restaurant with a difference. £17.50/head gets you pretty much free reign on a selection of starters, then mains, and desserts. You get rice crackers when you arrive. So, pick some starters (we had 4 for the two of us) and keep eating starters until satisfied. Then do the same with main dishes. Then move onto desserts (only fried fruit fritters, lychees or ice cream).

We have visited on numerous occasions especially for there Sunday buffet offer.When we sat down we could see they were very busy but waited at least 25minutes for our drinks.Todays service was very poor we were left for 45 minutes with no food and not having had any service or orders taken.I think the food is really good value for money but the poor service and lack of good customer service will really effect the popularity of this restaurant

We have just got back from spending the evening here, having reviewed and found this restaurant on trip advisor, we thought we would try it whilst we visited Derbyshire. So well worth a visit! Food piping hot and beautiful, no faults in anyway. Clean, friendly and great service. We chose all you can eat and the food was delightful. We are so full now! So pleased we found you on trip adviser and if we return here again, we will 100% return! Hot and sour soup relish! Along with the Mongolian lamb.

Hi all, booked the all you can eat buffet for a party of 6, we received a warm welcome from the staff and first impressions was good, excellent starter menu choices which we took full advantage of, the service was first class and food excellent, good choice of mains and desserts if you require. EXCELLENT value for money for our party including drinks, well worth a recommendation and another visit.

Firstly let me point out that if I had realised this place was only a 2 on the hygiene rating I wouldn’t ever have booked, however I only realised this after I had eaten there. We had a long wait for food and although it’s all you can eat the little portions they brought were pretty tasteless and cold and then when we asked for more took ages to come again. If a couple of mouthfuls of Luke warm tasteless food every 15 mins is what you like then give it a try, otherwise steer well clear. Lastly still hungry I tried a banana fritter that too was minuscule and literally swimming in fat, the taste of that will live with me for a long time ugh

Not only do they do a fantastic all you can eat menu in the evening .. but a meal for £5 at lunch time during the wk .. amazing food value for money great manager.. brilliant

Staff pleasant and accommodating, food always excellent, been there more times than I've had hot dinners :-) The Lotus Lounge is the best bits of every Chinese restaurant in Derbyshire all rolled into one. Well done and keep up the good work!!

Food always excellent quality and stunning value. Sam appeared particularly stressed tonight.(K) Kirsty service was excellent as ever, small girl always pleasant and sociable, slightly taller than Sam. A must try.

Small bold headed Chinese man (Manager), told me rudely to finish all my seaweed off. My daughter and I were so appalled by it, that it took us by complete surprise. And then, when we finally got our starters, my daughter's arrived first and I had to wait for mine for at least 15 minutes. By the time it did actually arrive, my daughter had finished. The most shocking bit was when we got our main course, sweet and sour dish, we had to wait for our noodles for over 18 minutes and even when we got it, it wasn't very warm. The only waitress on blatantly ignored us when we wanted to receive the bill, because again we were blatantly being ignored we had to leave our table, then the Manager ignore us. Then he could not find any fault for his poor, rude service. I find this restaurant the most incompetent, miss managed and poorly serviced So If you want to have a nice expensive meal out - avoid this place like the plague. It is not worth the time nor day.

All you can eat brought to your table. We have ate here many times. Some of the food on Sunday was a bit dry or salty. Still quite nice. Drinks are expensive Okay for the price.

Always seems quiet in here but the staff are so lovely and the food is always really nice! Great portions and the eat all you want is a great deal for the price! Meat is always lovely and soft 10/10 would recommend

Went here with family for the Sunday buffet. The food is always fast to come out, hot & so tasty. We love it here. Only wish they did the buffet on weekday lunchtimes too. Definitely recommend
