We were recommended to stop off here by our hosts at our Airbnb when we left. As it was Sunday breakfast time we thought this might be nice. We definitely wasn’t disappointed! A lovely cafe set in pretty surroundings and friendly staff with gorgeous food. I had a “starter” breakfast (bacon, sausage, egg and tomato on sour dough toast with a pot of tea and my husband had a sausage sandwich with a fried egg and an americano coffee with hot milk. Both came freshly cooked and tasted delicious. We thought the prices were very reasonable and very friendly service. Such a gem of a cafe! Glad we came. My husband visited the toilets too and said they were extremely clean. I’d recommend this cafe highly if you’re in the area … we were staying in Carlton so very close by. Fab cafe!

Lordstones Sadly, Lordstones is no longer the beautiful, part wild place I used to visit. Nor is it disabled friendly, as advertised. I would like the present owners to go around in wheelchairs one day and find out for themselves. Common sense dictates that paths laid with any kind of sharp stones are not ideal for any type of small wheels. The previous owner was a friendly hardworking man who was always present with a smile and a friendly word or so. I doubt that many of his visitors go back now. However, the present owners must be mighty proud of themselves and their commercial enterprise. Shame on you for spoiling such a wonderful place. P.S. I visited on Sunday 1st September 2024

We parked here and did a lovely scenic walk. We knew that there was a café but there wasn't a menu available online so didn't really know what to expect. Plenty of tables inside and also lots outside (nice on a sunny day!) They serve breakfasts (which looked very nice from what I saw people eating) but by the time we got back from our walk we waited until 12 when they start serving lunch. Menu was good with plenty of choices (with roasts on a Sunday) I got the beef burger which was very nice. Good size, lovely tasting patty, plenty of cheese and bacon in a really nice fresh bun. It was served with a good portion of really nice thin chips. (Also came with lots of lovely fresh salad and really good coleslaw which I suspect was homemade) My wife got the beef sandwich. Two pieces of bread with a good amount of roast beef. Good value for what it cost. Only minor point was the bread was a bit dry (almost like the sandwich had been prepared hours earlier and left out) Overall, we had a really good meal. Staff were very polite and efficient, and we would definitely eat here again.

Stopped for a late breakfast whilst doing the Lyke Wake Walk. Lord Stones is in such a beautiful location and looks a bit like a hobbit house. I just had a sausage butty and a pot of tea which were great. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I'll be back if I'm passing again.

Food was very tasty. We had a pie, fries and some roasted veg. Followed by a piece of cake. Portions were not particularly generous and I'd consider it a trifle costly, but hey, we eat too much as it is and the flavours were great. The little shop sold some nice meat products and other bits and bobs. I thought it was all quite nice.

Wow, What a Find. A return visit to this lovely cafe which we had almost forgotten about visiting. It's a long way south, but these Cheese Scones run Driftwood, Emsworth (see separate review) a close second. Combined with my favourite Cortado, "that's the 3rd time someone has asked for a Cortado. Lovely design, great Photographs of the local area. Worth seeking out. Oh and Loos you could eat your Scones off. Well it's a good test of public toilets. Hayling Seagoon

This is a cafe that has a unique position on some of Englands best walking trails. Yet it's owner is anti walkers, boots, dogs, kids. Don't bother, bring a packed lunch and sit and watch the beautiful views.

A good facility at a great location for walkers, cyclists and tourists wanting to enjoy being in the countryside. Well designed and sympathetically placed in the landscape. Good range of both food and drink and seating both inside and out. The downsides on the day we were there, which was not a busy day, was that the staff seemed to lack interest in engaging with customers, and there was more litter around than expected - including discarded napkins etc.

Have to eat outside for coffee and cakes as very little room privided inside for this, only want you inside for full meals which is fine on a nice day but not if weather is bad. Staff not having a lot to do as I think most customers come here for a snack after a nice walk. Is this new model working? You used to be able to sit inside for tea and cakes.

We hadn’t booked for lunch!!! The cafe was not open!! However, we were so fortunate to be squeezed into the restaurant for ‘Sunday Lunch’. The food was very good and at a reasonable price.

Customer service is extremely poor. I asked for a bottle of water, which when brought over by the waitress was referred to as "tap water". The bottle did not have a lid on it and was NOT removed at the table so I assumed this was tap water, as already stated by the waitress. When I went to pay the bill I noticed a £2.00 charge for the water. I asked the lady at the front of house to explain why I was charged when tap water was brought to table. She said "I took the lid off myself because they are hard to remove". Seriously? Clearly a poorly constructed lie. She also claimed the waitress was new and made a mistake when referring to the bottle as tap water. If you're going to have the indecency to charge people for tap water and put it in a bottle, at least come up with a better disguise. Won't be returning.

After a good walk along the Cleveland Hills I called here with my granddaughter. She had a scone and hot chocolate. I had soup and a sandwich. When the order arrived there was no soup. No apology nor explanation. I hadn't ordered a drink because of the soup. Eating the sandwich without soup or a drink was difficult. I still don't know if they had run out of soup or just decided that I couldn't have any. Very disappointing because my previous experiences here had been so good.

We visited after our walk. There was plenty of seating inside and out but the queue for a drink or food was huge. They could have done with more staff as not only we left but others did. The farm shop next door advertised hot pies however after queuing we were told they only do them on a weekday. A blonde girl who was working at the bar area needs to go on a course regarding manners.

This cafe is a welcome sight with its throngs of dog walkers and trekkers. It it has plenty of outdoor and indoor seating and staff working busily to meet customer demand. The food is average- it makes a nice change to have the option of hot soup or a toasted sandwich or even a cooked meal when you have been eating packed lunches but actually the menu is nothing special. My soup was pleasantly bland and the bread a bit heavy and chewy. There is also a shop but it is more of a gift shop then a deli and it would not be easy to build a picnic from the offerings.

We stopped off at Lordstones Cafe while walking the Cleveland Way. There are very few places to buy food on this walk so I had researched thoroughly and the Lordstones website said the cafe was open until 5pm and welcomed walkers from the long distance paths. It sounded an ideal place to get some food. We arrived just after 4pm and ordered drinks. I then asked about food and was told they stop serving food at 4pm. If this is the case, then it really should be made clear on their website. Long distance walkers rely on this kind of information being up to date. Not impressed.

We stayed here recently in the camping field. On the day we arrived there had been a wedding the day before so the toilets and showers were filthy and were not cleaned that day. You are asked to park your car in the car park which is open to the general public at all hours of the day and night and there is no security. There is a maintenance man who cleans the toilets and showers but when he had a day off I had to request more toilet paper and for the showers to be cleaned. The day we arrived 17 women had booked camping too with the intention of drinking and making a lot of noise that night as they apologised beforehand! There is no provision as on normal campsites for ice block freezing or even milk for sale , though to be fair we were able to buy milk from the cafe with our own container for £1 a pint. The lady who booked us in was very helpful and allowed us to park our car next to the tent but when Friday arrived Claire, the camp manager, told us we had to move it because she was going to put a tent where our car was parked. When we protested and said that was an invasion of privacy we were told 'well that whats you expect when you are camping'. She had obviously never been camping before because everything you said the reply was 'well that's what you expect when you are camping'. Re the cafe I think £4.40 for a pint of lager is a bit over the top.

As a keen hill walker I tramp the Moors on a regular basis and have eaten at the CAFE several times (this year) If you take your dog there is seating outside and inside it is well decorated with solid quality furniture and spotlessly clean rest rooms. Situated astride the Coast-2-Coast footpath (and Cleveland way) it is ideally situated to give folf a break with good wholesome freshly cooked food. It also has a shop selling locally produced meats and preservatives. There is a large car park so if walking is not your thing you can simply drive up and stroll into the Café - Very happy to recommend.

We popped into Lordstones for a bite of lunch today. Food was delicious but the welcome was questionable. The lady behind the bar taking orders was miserable and pretty rude if I’m honest. Whilst the dining atmosphere is very pleasant, and the food of good quality the staff appear to have no grasp of the concept of "No Mayo" Despite me asking on 3 seperate occasions if the sandwich/ burger contained mayo I was told on all occasions that no there was no mayo only to find generous helpings. Whilst i have no food allergies to it, I just dont like the taste. There are those around who could be very allergic to it.
