Lord Palmerston in Islington

We had a party here for my wifes 60th in Jan 25 using their upstairs room. The team at The Lord Palmerston could not have handled this any better. Super helpful and great attention to detail. Even when some of our guests were running rate arriving the team there held back the food for us, so that we could all eat together and still managed to run a very busy pub downstairs! How they coped I have no idea. The kitchen team must be very on their game as everything was super tasty and 20+ of us not a single complaint, not that I heard anyway. TLPalmerston thank you so much for making our party there memorable, for all the right reasons! We will be back.. thank you so much.. Highly Recommended.

My sister was visiting from Canada and wanted to go to a cozy pub with a fire. The Lord Palmerston is just around the corner so I reserved a spot next to the fireplace a few weeks in advance. But when we arrived last night there was no fire to be seen! Seeing our disappointment, the barman George saved the evening by starting a roaring fire for us (see picture attached). The food was delicious as well - my sister said the chicken pie was one of the best she'd tasted! Thank you George and the staff at the Lord Palmerston for making our evening!

Been before and was fantastic but has recently steeply dropped off. The waitstaff took forever and were snappy with us, we waited 45 minutes before receiving resigned and snippy service. The menu is not what it is listed on the website.

Nice pub with plenty of space and a very nice environment and staff. Could do with a better selection of vegetarian options. Also not the cheapest pub..

Very slow service and mediocre food. I felt resentful at the price of the meal. Several mistakes with the order and some dishes didn't arrive until after we'd finished eating. The waitress was friendly but harassed and it wasn't a convivial Sunday lunch. I wouldn't go back.

Our first Sunday here as we just moved into the neighbourhood. Delicious roasts and large menu for the non roast lovers. Amazing service from the team. Big thank you to Pariece for dealing with our fussy bunch and making my daughters birthday extra special - this will always be remembered. We will be back for the quiz for sure Thursday

In a beautiful setting we were served delicious food, ranging from the familiar to the exotic and always excellently prepared. Servers were accommodating and friendly. The quality of the food in this pub has always been high over the many years I have been coming but was particularly good and personnel especially friendly this time.

It just wasn't what we expected, sadly.

Welcoming staff. Bet well kept. Atmos marked down as nobody was keeping the fire in the grate Ordered the steak pie. Pie itself was fine but served on a stone cold plate so the mash and veg were cold. Broccoli totally over cooked to soggy limp mess Asked for replacement veg. 8mins later were served more over cooked broccoli on another cold plate Please ask your chef to warm the plates and learn how to cook veg

It was our second pre-Christmas visit to the Lord Palmerston. They have a room upstairs for private functions which was perfect for us. Three generations of family gathered there, a big space for all 15 of us, plenty of room for children to run around within a safe space and the food is excellent. Lovely friendly service we'll probably make it an annual feature!

A hidden gem in a residential area. Visited on a Saturday noon, after a walk around the highgate area. We were sat right away (they had quite a bit of available tables) Everything on the menu looked exciting and we had a hard time deciding. Eventually got their signature board and it was FANTASTIC!! My husband loved their sausage roll, and I was a big fan of the scotched eggs. We also got the bangers and mash and it was very tasty. They have a good selection of beers. It became a memorable (and one of the best) lunch from our trip.

Very friendly and helpful staff, lovely atmosphere. We were seated and a round table in the corner of the room. Very comfortable chairs and table at a good height. What a pleasant change!! Food delicious dishes: sausage and mash; trout; chicken pie. Had an excellent evening

My friends and I celebrated our Friendsmas / Secret Santa at the Lord Palmerston this evening. We booked beforehand and managed to get a private little nook area, super cozy vibes ! Wasn’t a huge fan of the bangers and mash but I highly recommend the ox cheek croquettes with marmite mayo and the fish and chips. Great service every time I’ve been here and they also have some board games which is a game changer.

This was an annual visit for a pre Christmas lunch with old friends. We were given a table with comfortable armchairs next to the fire. An excellent start! We all had a traditional roast meal, which was delicious. The giant Yorkshire pudding a real treat. Staff were friendly and helpful, genuinely making us feel at home. Nothing but praise for our venue and meal.

Only had a drink but the staff and atmosphere were all lovely. Could easily spend and afternoon drinking here.

We had a fantastic family Sunday roast here. Roast beef and Yorkshires were amazing! Great veggie roast too. Simon and his team were really friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back for more Bloody Mary's too.!

Very nice pub, very friendly and welcoming staff. However the prices aren't appropriate for the food. Snack plates are very expensive for minimal food vs other gastro pubs in the area, and regular brands of beer are more expensive than other pubs.

Mi amigo y yo vamos a un montón de conciertos de metal en la zona, y tan pronto como probamos el LP, se convirtió en nuestro habitual ir. Con el tiempo es porque nuestro pub favorito, punto final. Fuimos de nuevo anoche y experimentamos el servicio de mesa por primera vez. Tanto el asado como el servicio fue excelente.

Had Sunday Lunch £44 with service no drinks! Complete waste of money, starter Potted Crab - reality the tiniest tastless possible amount of crab in mayonnaise with a meagre amount of grated carrot and three tiniest fronds of samphire. A tiny sesame cracker. Tasteless and dull. Sunday Roast Beef tough and grisly had to hack endlessly to make a cut. Rock hard roast potatoes, one sad carrot, dull mash and cabbage, big Yorkshire pudding and the tiniest amount of gravy. I feel totally robbed really Lord Palmerston you never see again was hoping to make it a regular Sunday place for me and my friends. Honestly guys you need to really up your game with quailty flavour technique and creativity. I make far, far better at home.

Lovely atmosphere in a calm cozy neighbourhood. We had a delicious Sunday roast, with nice gravy and horseradish on the side.

Service and atmosphere excellent. The Sunday roast chicken was cooked beautifully however little choice of vegetable came with it! Shame as could be easily resolved so easily....

Stopped by looking for somewhere to have lunch, and this did not disappoint. A good menu with quality roasts.

Great spot. They have a wide array of drinks on offer, an extensive (and tasty) food menu and great service. Highly recommended.

Lovely pub, sometimes celebrity sightings, and nice big bright windows. The front garden is nice for people watching. The whole place was recently refurbished. Dog friendly. Lily pours a great pint of Guinness.

The whole experience working with the Lord Palmerston's staff was delightful. From booking a space to changing dates. To then last night enjoying the space reserved for us. It was 10/10. The service was outstanding, from arrival until the time we left. All the staff were so helpful and attentive and accommodating to our needs. The food was delicious too. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We will certainly be back and we would highly recommend anyone in the area to visit and feel at home.

A friend had been telling me how he had found a really nice pub with great food, friendly atmoshere and staff and a room that you can hire for birthdays etc. He wasn't wrong , its a little gem. Great beers and cocktails and really nice decor.

We order the chicken which was unbelievably dry and yet blood was running from the bone . You get half a chicken with half a carrot and half a roast potato and some cabbage for £20 . Honestly it was the worst eating experience I have ever had . The volume of the people next to us was so loud it felt like , I was at a football match . I spent the walk home apologising to my wife for choosing this place to eat . The 1 star is for the friendly staff .

We found Lord Palmerston’s by accident, while staying at an Airbnb nearby. Had such a great experience with both Lilly & Hayley that we went back again on our final night in London! Great food & Old Fashions…. But most of all we were treated like Royalty by both of them!!! Hayley even remembered what we ate and drank on our first visit! Definitely would highly recommend a visit👍

I had a good pint of Youngs London Special. Canny staff, decor was really nice. We sat outside, which was nice on a hot September day.

Popped in for a quiet roast on my own. Had a lovely warm welcome from all the team, they managed to find me a lovely cosy table with armchairs, perfect to sit back and relax, just what I needed. Great Selection of non-alcoholic beers. But also great Selection of alcoholic beers on tap and lovely wines on offer. Service was great I was made to feel at home, the Atmosphere was warm and buzzing just what you’d expect on a Sunday afternoon. This pub is such a beauty a must visit! Great Sunday lunch will Definitely be back to try the à la cart menu.

Had a lovely Sunday roast for a friend’s bday. Fun and lively atmosphere and despite it being very busy the staff were great as were the bottomless Yorkshire puddings. Can’t wait to come back.

Quaint pub with really thought out Victorian-esk interior. It definitely sets the standard for how pubs should look, it was refreshing to see. They had a great selection of beers and wines too! Despite not eating Will be back for sure

Pub of character boasting fine selection of ales and wines. Food was of a high standard. I had a cold gammon starter followed by traditional fish and chips, both delicious. Outside seating. Friendly service.

Booked a table, but when we arrived we went to order to be told that it would be a 40 min wait before we could order food, so we left.

Lovely interior, very cosy and clean with loads of outside space. Definitely the best roast in the area, The manager Aneta was amazing, very polite and went out of her way to accommodate us on a busy Sunday Also the Guinness is really good !

EDIT: I live a long way away now so it's unlikely i'll revisit post the 2024 refurb/reopening. So have five stars. Best of luck.

Went over for a Sunday Roast and it was fantastic. Can definitely recommend the Pork Belly, all elements were cooked to perfection.

Food is awful. Booked a table to watch the euro final and was put at a table with half a view of a tiny screen up near the ceiling. Left to watch it at home at half time.

Just wanted to post here to say the gracious upstairs room of the Lord Palmerston must be one of North London’s best kept secrets for venue hire. The pub kindly let us (Camden Philharmonia Orchestra) use it for our inaugural “Lord Pam Players Musical Soirée”. On the day the team were exceptionally accommodating and professional, helping to make it a night to remember.

John was a super attentive waiter who was kind and efficient. And very funny! Food was very good and arrived in a timely fashion. Thanks.

Tasty roast and elite fish and chips. Thank you John for a lovely experience and 10/10 service. Will be returning again soon.

Just had a phenomenal experience at The Lord Palmerston! The service was outstanding from start to finish. The staff was not only friendly but incredibly attentive, making sure every detail was just right!

Amazing how one trip to the pub can change your whole day, we got there around 12 as we walked in we got greeted with big smiles and attentive staff, Shannon and Vicky made our visit worthwhile, food was delicious, My partner got a plant burger it was gone in few minutes, I got chicken escalope with capers & samphire butter + perfectly cooked sunny side up egg -it was juicy and full of flavours. Loved it. Atmosphere is great as pub is freshly refurbished, if you are in the area it is definitely worth to visit Lord Palmerston. Thank you and we will be visiting again.

Lord Palmerston is a perfect place where to come for lunch or dinner. I had a delicious plant burger while my partner enjoyed his chicken escalope. The staff—Aneta, Shannon, and Vicky—were amazing and took great care of us. The service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. I highly recommend this pub for a fantastic dining experience! Or for a casual drink or two or tree or four. Thanks again

Untidy and unwelcoming We have lived near this pub for years and have never seen such a mess. It’s almost 8 pm Saturday night, doesn’t look busy. Very unwelcoming.

Great Sunday roast. Great service and atmosphere. Haven’t experienced it yet, but this pub will be great in the summer as there is a front and back courtyard.

On a visit to London last weekend (for another Manchester City win at Wembley) I visited this pub for Sunday lunch. It was a wonderful experience. The food was well cooked and very tasty. The service was very efficient, helpful and friendly. The atmosphere was very welcoming. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would strongly recommend a visit.

First time visit to this charming pub with a friend and well worth the special effort, as new GM Laura's magnetic reputation most definitely precedes her! Wacky portraits, fab food and the chillout 80's music vibe suited my Thursday eve perfectly, especially with bona fide star attraction Kitty popping down to say hello 🐾 All in all, a wonderful way to cap off a flying visit to London - 5/5 (Protip - Choosing the flavoursome and sizeable Ploughman's sharer as a starter for two is one for the brave...)

The place was heaving last Saturday when we visited with some friends. Some of us also work in hospitality and it’s always good to see pubs doing well. However, considering how busy it was we couldn’t understand why the staff member decided to spend so much time by our table. The guy was more interested in talking about himself, and his work as a performer than taking orders and letting us be. He proved a staggering lack of knowledge of the allergens - no alternatives were given to the dishes containing gluten. Didn’t know how to substitute any of them. One of us is celiac so it’s not a joke. We ended up not eating there which was a shame but better safe than sorry.

The LP has had more than a snazzy facelift. The staff are more organised and attentive, the food two weeks on the trot has been outstanding. We’ve been going for years and the shift in both food and atmosphere is palpable and very much welcome.

Beautifully restored pub in North London. Cute garden out back. Service was warm and charming. We chatted to the new owners who are lovely. We felt so well looked after, the waitess went above and beyond to make our visit special. Have recommended this place to all my North London friends and can't wait to go back when we're in the area.
