Lord Palmerston in Islington

Delicious Sunday roasts. Lovely staff. Very nicely refurbished building, interiors and outside spaces.

The LP has had more than a snazzy facelift. The staff are more organised and attentive, the food two weeks on the trot has been outstanding. We’ve been going for years and the shift in both food and atmosphere is palpable and very much welcome.

Had a lovely Sunday roast with my wife. Wonderful food. It's a thoroughly charming place all around. Will certainly be back sometime.

The Lord Palmerston is easily one of my top 3 pubs in London (and that’s a competitive top 3!): beautiful and quiet pub garden in the summer, fire place in the winter, excellent food, beautiful decor and amazing service! Perfection year round after a walk on the Heath.

Lovely experience here yesterday. Sunday lunch was delicious and service was tip top. Thanks for looking after us so well!

Such a shame that our experience here yesterday was really spoiled by the annoying pub dog !!! We had a very nice (though too expensive) meal, the staff were lovely but the dog was so irritating!! Kept begging at the tables and the owner appeared to have no control or interest. We initially didn’t realise the dog was the Pub Dog. Management need to get that sorted before we return. (We love dogs by the way).

Had a fantastic birthday party here for 50 people. Laura and her team looked after us brilliantly. Excellent buffet for guests, great staff. Looking beautiful after refurb. Strongly recommended! 10/10

Nearly fifteen quid for two pints is what I paid here! No thanks! Despite the lovely grounds and atmosphere of this pub I won't be venturing here again ever unless I suddenly bang my head and become content to be ripped off.

What a lovely find and just by chance we happened to visit the day before they opened (the pre-opening open day!) after a major renovation. Absolutely stunning inside, warm and welcoming even from Kitty the resident dog. So many seating options from big tables for 12 to cosy snugs in the rear. Laura the friendly manager showed us round and we got to see the rear and front terrace, gonna be great in the summer. We had a small food taster and it was delicious. Can't wait to go back and have a full on dining experience plus try out the 'Call for champagne' buzzer.

Had an awesome experience at this pub! The fish & chips were top-notch, crispy and flavorful. Paired it with their cask ale, and it was a match made in heaven. The attention to detail in both the food and the brew was evident. The staff was friendly, creating a fantastic overall atmosphere. If you're a fan of great fish & chips and really good cask ale, this pub is a must-visit!

We reserved for a birthday celebration and were really looking forward to eating somewhere new. We ordered food at 7.30 First of all, we couldn't have one of the mains as they had run out. Come 8.pm, no starters had yet arrived. We remained patient and decided the slow service was fine and nothing would ruin the vibe. 8.15 still no starters, and we are informed there is only one chef as the other had called in sick. 8.20 we are informed another main dish has run out. So we cancelled the order. Had our drinks and left. The bar staff wer lovely about it and comped 2 of our drinks. They were clearly embarrassed.. I didn't complain but I gently said "it's not good is it" they said "no it isn't". There were only 3 other covers. So I ask management please sort out your kitchen. Train your staff to be transparent amd tell folk in advance if kitchen is functioning with skeletal staff And lack of food .

We had a party for my mum’s 70th in the upstairs room and it was a huge success thanks to the brilliant team at the Lord Palmerston. They were so helpful in the run up, advising on food and drink options, had set the room up perfectly and couldn’t have been more attentive on the night. We will definitely be back for future events!

Came here for a roast today and left very underwhelmed, especially after seeing such excellent reviews previously. Pork was fatty and difficult to get through, beef was overcooked and the roast potatoes were soggy rather than crispy. Service was also sporadic - we ordered in groups and the roasts and sides arrived at different intervals. All in all, disappointing - wouldn’t recommend to a friend, unfortunately.

What an amazing little pub, I'm new to the area and was looking for a new local, and this place is going to be it! Food was great, service from Daisy was attentive and polite. Can't wait to come back and try more cocktails!

Often work in this pub or pop in on the way home. Staff are always friendly and welcoming especially to my children. Great place to have a few drinks on your own or with company. Today I had the cheese board, great portion size would say it would serve 2-3 people as a table snack. I'll definitely be back

Great food and service! I had the bavette steak and was so nicely cooked and juicy. Their garden is a hidden gem for summer. Definitely visiting again soon.

We had a wonderful party at Lord Palmerston for a 90th birthday celebration- super buffet lunch all served upstairs in the Lords Room - perfect setting for a party with amazing view over London and first class service from Aneta and Scarlet. Nothing was too much trouble and all the organising beforehand was made so easy with advice on quantity and selection of food. Thank you!! We will definitely be back after your refit!

We chose the private room upstairs for our Christmas lunch. Wonderful food, beautifully festive table arrangement and the service was perfect. Would highly recommend. Very child friendly venue too.

Nicely decorated pub, we have been a few times and the food smells good. However it is always a bit too quiet for our liking!

Mid week dinner with a friend. I had venison and pheasant sausages with mash which was very nice but the gravy was a bit thin and lacking in taste. Nice atmosphere, pretty quiet on Wednesday evening.

The roasts were lovely!!! But they did run out of a couple of things... It was probably because we visited around 7 in the evening.. Guest service was good and there was good timing for whenever we needed anything. Till next time 😁

Came for Sunday roasts and were not disappointed. Love the general decor and the hidden garden! That doggo portrait was incredible too! Staff were friendly and the food was scrumptious. Can’t wait to be back. Wish I tried the vegan roast but the chicken and the pork belly were on point!! 😍😍😍

It is so nice to have one of our local pubs operating well again! Really friendly welcoming staff make all the difference. There are many local pubs to choose from but The Lord P is back on our list as favourite!

Nice atmosphere place. However, they have a lack of service, the venue running out items really quickly, like basic whisky brands. Also on the Saturday late afternoon they not expecting many guests and they not able to serv food, so I can not really rated that part of the review.

Great people, wonderfully comfortable and couldn’t be more welcoming - it feels like home - just a few minutes from the Heath - it’s a gem…

Waited nearly 2 hours for food. There was a big party upstairs but given we’d booked our table a week in advance this really wasn’t ok, and no real apology - especially sad because up until now we’ve been regulars here.

A pleasant victorian pub with good ales and food with a surprising courtyard garden. Parking is a bit tricky.

Stop by this pub after visiting Highgate Cemetery. Certainly not disappointed. The food was fairly good for a pub. We both had fish and chips. The barkeep was very friendly and solicitous. I love the atmo. Well worth the visit if you are in the area. Highly recommended.

Super friendly staff and a great roast dinner

I arranged for The Lord Palmerston to host an evening meeting, then six of us went downstairs after and had a meal, The room was characterful and quiet and the meal delicious. The PowerPoint equipment worked. I could ask no more!

Went in with a group of friends. Got served a beautiful pint by this bartender. Said his name was Charlie. Absolute stunner of a man.

A delightful pub with a good range of drinks along with an excellent offering of quality food at a reasonable price, especially the Sunday roast. Service was also friendly and efficient.

Friendly staff, amazingly tasty roast (such good value for money), catered to allergies and dog friendly. Will definitely be back. I think we have found out new local! Also, on a side note the pub is spotless… the tables/ pub are so clean … cleanest pub in both London.

My partner had his 30th birthday here. It was fantastic! We were worried about the weather as we had booked the garden, but the host figured out a contingency plan. Staff were brilliant and food was delicious! Our friends and family had a great day. Highly recommend!!

I had my birthday party at the venue. The weather wasn’t great and I had booked the outdoor space. But lucky the host went the extra mile and helped accommodate my guest(30 people) by making space inside the venue, even though the other spaces in the venue was booked out. The food was great too and everything on the menu is gluten free. Leading up to the day of my party, the host was alway quick to respond if I had any questions. It’s a great venue and the staff are very friendly, great venue to have events.

Booked to celebrate my mothers 90th Birthday with a meal at the Lord Palmerston. Made contact four months before the event. Aga was communicative and accommodating. However the event was marred by the poor food. So called Mediterranean flatbread was a slice of white homepride sandwich bread. Artisan bread was sliced brown bread with seeds! I felt really embarrassed. Needless to say we couldn't get-out of there quick enough. All twenty five of us went back to my mums and ate properly there.

Lovely old pub with friendly staff and some great beers on tap, but sadly the place lacks atmosphere and is often very quiet. Great if you want a quiet pint though! Edit: I understand the pub is under new management so expecting great things! 🥳

We went to the lord Palmerston for a Sunday roast, I ordered a veggie roast which I have to say is one of the best roast I've had in London, for once veggie gravy was amazing and my husband ordered the chicken which he said was great too.

Returned yesterday to have late lunch with the wife. Lovely fish pie and sausages with crushed potatoes. Wait time was a little longer than expected but we weren't in a rush, so all good. All the staff we encountered were extremely friendly. Cheers! 🥂 ------------- Popped in today after a year or so not visiting. Seems to be new staff, two very friendly ladies tending bar. Still extremely overpriced (£6.50 for a Guinness) but I may be tempted to return now the previous staff have gone, probably have to remortgage the house for a proper session though 😂

We live over 20 miles away but have been coming here for 18 years since our boys were toddlers. We all came back today for the first time in years and absolutely loved it!! Food was great! Will definitely be back.

Came in couple days ago and the experience was lovely, the hidden garden was quite nice and comforting, without leaving us away from the Wimbledon action displayed on the tv outside The staff were very welcoming and friendly taking care us the whole way through, from drinks to food with no complaints towards the waiting times at all. I specially like the sausages and crushed potatoes made by the chef. Will definitely come here again specially during the next pub quiz !!!

I left my phone behind the bar to charge, handed my phone and charger to the staff and accidentally left them there overnight. Came back the next day and got my phone but someone took my charger so that's a pisstake but not a bad pub

Come here yesterday for Father’s Day - firstly we hadn’t booked us a table and they squeezed us in very grateful, the staff was so helpful and friendly Aga was great. The roast was Amazing one of the best I have had in a long time I thoroughly enjoyed everything on my plate only thing I would mention maybe the potions need to be a little bit bigger. My I will definitely be back if your looking for a good roast this is definitely the spot!

Had lunch here 2 days ago with my daughter and we were pleasantly surprised at how good the food is. The lovely lady Kat served us and she couldn't have been more thoughtful and caring. Apparently it's under different management in the last two weeks so, hopefully it will continue to be consistent. I've always loved this pub but it's had quite a few different people running it over time. Sometimes hit, sometimes miss. So best wishes to the new team for the future 🙌

Very nice pub, we went for Sunday roast and enjoyed the chilled environment.The salad was very nice (I wasn't hungry to order the vg Sunday roast but they kindly offered to give me a side dish of vegetables and even gave me some vegan gravy 🥰 which was perfect 🙏🏼). I also ordered a special drink which was kindly done by the team and it was very good! The staff is super nice and they made us feel right at home! The Sunday roasts are very big 😱 Will come back again soon!

What a great pub! I came in with two of my Friends as I just moved into the area and wanted to check out my new neighbourhood. I know for sure that Lord Palmerston will become my local pub! Great decor! Fantastic spritz and cocktail options. And the staff were so friendly- greeted with a smile and looked after the entire after afternoon. Table service- what a lovely surprise! If you live locally or just visiting Tufnell Park, please go and check it out yourself! You won't be disappointed!

I had a wonderful time at the pub, thanks to the friendly and professional staff. They were attentive, courteous and helpful throughout my visit. Aga, the new manager, took great care of each guest and made sure everything was running smoothly. Kat prepared some delicious cocktails for me and my friends, which were creative and refreshing. The pub is also dog-friendly, so I could bring my furry companion along and enjoy the cozy atmosphere. The staff made me feel welcome and comfortable, and I would definitely recommend this pub to anyone looking for a great place to relax and enjoy.

Popped into this place on a Saturday after needing a breather from the hill, had the pleasure of being served by the manager Zed who was very helpful. He helped us pick a lovely bottle of rose along with some food, I was surprised how much is gluten free, we had anchovies and fried squid . If we were staying I would have loved to try the gluten free fish and chips . Will be back

Had a great night at the Lord Palmerston on Friday - the food was amazing and tasty and we all had different dishes. Zed was fantastic and could not have been more helpful or friendly- funny guy .

The interior is nicely set out as you would expect from a Youngs pub. The staff were very accommodating with our dogs and seating arrangements . Firstly we sat in the lovely lounge area and had drinks and snacks and then moved to the main table to eat. A bit like being at home. Food was excellent and was served piping hot, with a smile. Even though it was fairly busy we were very well looked after. Highly recommend for a lazy Sunday afternoon with the family

I did go back and it wasn't good at all compared to a year ago. At 2pm they had already run out of the roast beef. Waited 40mins for food and all very dry. When we wanted to order dessert they had run out as well.
