Lovely Japanese cafe in Angel. The queue could be long but it’ll move. There are ample seats in the back yard. It is a lovely place for a catch up with friends. The matcha latte is unsweetened. It is yummy! The matcha crepe cake is a bit dry on the outside, but still delicious. If you miss Japan, come here to enjoy the matcha products.

Review in 2025: this place used to be my favourite coffee shop but unfortunately it went downhill… the 3 stars is for the matcha basque cheese cake otherwise I would give 2 stars. Watery matcha latter and flat white served in a black plastic cup with burnt coffee beans taste, and too foamy. It felt like a coffee you would get from cheap coffee machines and not from a barista. Highly disappointed. Please improve your drinks Review in 2023:Quality teas and coffees, very kind staff.

Went for an ice matcha latte and strawberry shortcake. Although the latte is small, it was great. Matcha was not too strong or powdery, good milk to matcha ratio. Overall very nice, just a bit small. The strawberry shortcake was also great. Light weight sponge, lightweight cream, and not too sweet, so you won't feel sick. Would recommend! The place itself is small at first but they do have a garden at the back (which has scope to really turn it to a Japanese garden). No laptops on weekends due to space but not sure how strict that is since there were people very clearly on their laptops. They do serve sake as well, but not something I dabble in myself.

Had evening infusion in the garden which is the star of the show here. They have heaters so go out there during spring/autumn, maybe even winter. I think they have some of the better Japanese cakes in the area, and a great tea selection. I want to go back in the morning and try their latte’s which sounded great.

I visited Katsute 100 to buy cakes for my nephew’s birthday. After I paid for six cake slices I noticed that there was a tray of strawberry shortcake slices behind the till. I told the woman at the counter who was serving me that they were my nephew’s favourite and asked if I can order two slices. She told me they were not ready yet and will take 15 minutes, despite them looking ready for sale. I said this was a shame and made my way to the door. As I was leaving I could hear her telling her male colleague in Japanese to hold off from putting the slices in the display cabinet as she had just told me that they were not for sale yet. She explained to him that she told me it would be another 15 minutes to prepare them as she could not be bothered to serve me again. He seemed confused as there were no other customers behind me and the cakes were ready, but followed her instructions. I was still in the shop during this exchange and so I turned back around and told her that I can speak Japanese and I fully understood their exchange. She laughed and apologised that I overheard. I think it’s appalling to have this attitude and to assume that neither me nor the other customers sat in the cafe can understand what is being said (I know at least one of the tables was Japanese speaking). I live around the corner from the cafe and have been visiting for years. This incident has put a bad taste in my mouth and it is really a shame.

A really cute Japanese cafe located in the middle of Brick Lane. The interior has a certain vibe to it and i love to see the clash between their decor and Brick Lane. Cute cafe with a small garden, the interior design looks like a traditional Japanese tea house but a bit cramped in the seating area. A Japanese Vibe Coffee shop. I went for the match crepe cake, but it is kinda disappointing. Match dessert as one of the favourites for Asian is because they are not really sweet, but the cake there failed this asian sweetness test and you can’t really feel the attractiveness of match from this cake. For the coffee, I ordered hot Americano and there’s nothing special about it. It tastes like the kind of coffee you can buy it from Pret. Anyways, the atmosphere of the shop inside is pretty good and I love the interior design. However, the restaurant adopts free seating and it’s kinda hard to find a seat as the shop is kinda small and the seats there aren’t really comfy.

This chain Japanese cafe is located on Angel Street and is very easy to find, just a 7-10 mins walk from the tube station. The interior is a bit narrow, and the seating can feel quite cramped. We ordered a black sesame latte, black sesame cake, MontBlanc cake, matcha crepe cake, matcha latte, and white ale. While the two black sesame items were somewhat average—lacking a strong sesame flavor—the other dishes were excellent and definitely worth recommending. However, the staff could improve their friendliness, as they didn’t seem very welcoming. Overall, it’s a nice spot with some great desserts!

Horrible experience with Katsute 100—completely unprofessional and disorganized! I wanted to order a whole strawberry shortcake for my wife’s birthday because she absolutely loves Japanese shortcake. I called their Brick Lane branch to arrange the order, explaining that it’s much closer to me than their Angel branch. The staff assured me it wouldn’t be a problem and directed me to their website—a clunky, poorly designed site with terrible UI. I placed the order online, including a special request for the cake to be delivered to their Brick Lane branch. Wanting to confirm, I messaged them through their website. They responded, saying it wasn’t possible to deliver to Brick Lane and that it could only be picked up from their Islington branch. Reluctantly, I agreed and left it at that. But shockingly, they decided to cancel my order without my knowledge. This was just because I had asked if delivery to Brick Lane was possible—not because I canceled the order myself. When I called to check on the order, they casually informed me it had been canceled and refused to take a new order for the next day. Keep in mind, this was a special cake for a birthday celebration! To make matters worse, the manager was rude and kept changing their story mid-conversation. They showed zero accountability and insisted it was my fault for not responding to a chat message on their website—an email notification about the message went straight to my junk folder! Meanwhile, they had my phone number and email but never bothered to call or send a proper follow-up. Oh, and they’d already taken the payment without providing the cake or resolving the issue. This establishment clearly prioritizes rapid expansion over quality or customer service. Zero remorse, no apology, and complete disregard for their customers. They are flying high on opening new branches but neglecting the basics of customer interaction. They ruined what was supposed to be a special birthday surprise. If you care about good service and reliability, avoid Katsute 100 at all costs. This business doesn’t deserve your money.

Cosy and beautifully decorated right from the entrance, it offers a variety of teas and desserts that are simply delicious (they are very well-balanced, you can taste all the ingredients and they are not overly sugary). After visiting their Covent Garden branch (inside Uniqlo shop), I decided to go to their Angel/Islington branch. I visited today with a friend. As expected, there was a queue and super busy. Limited seating, but thankfully, we saw a couple leaving, and my friend secured a table for us. Approx 15 minutes queuing and ordering. We both ordered a matcha flat white and matcha basque cheesecake each. As a matcha enthusiast, I absolutely loved it! The basque cheesecake had a subtle sweetness, and the matcha taste was not as bitter. The matcha flat white does not contain coffee. Instead, it's a stronger matcha flavour, which I personally like. Authentic Japanese teas and delicious cakes. Price wise, it was not cheap so expect to pay more. Service was good. However, they did not monitor/clear some tables. We still had someone else's empty cups and plates on our table, but it was really busy at the same time. I would definitely go back here, but most likely on a weekday to avoid the crowd. In our case, the person dealing with us (an American Asian) could not have bothered to tell us wait for the matcha mille crepe, instead shoved us whatever was ready on the shelf while rolling her eyes. Apparently, that wasn't the practice (that they would normally give you a buzzer so that you'll pick it up once ready). As somebody who switched to matcha and no longer drinks coffee, I find it incredibly hard to find a good matcha whenever I am traveling and cant make it at home. This was the best matcha Ive had in any restaurant/cafe/tea house outside of Japan. The owner brings all the matcha and tea options directly from Japan and has a selection of incredible Sake and Japanese whiskey to purchase. The decor is very Japanese and cozy and they have a beautiful courtyard garden outside. We ordered the ceremonial matcha and a flat white with soy milk (make sure to ask for unsweetened in all the latte drinks if, like me, thats what you prefer). My matcha (prepared koicha style was served in a classic chawan) and the flat white was frothed for a deliciously creamy drink.

The tea, astonishingly, was priced at £4.50 for a mere '180ml'. Quite extraordinary, considering that earlier in the week, the very same tea we had (500ml), at The Dorchester and The Mandarin Oriental for approximately £4.00 to £5.00. Truly, daylight robbery. A word of advice to some of the staff: If one finds oneself so dreadfully disenchanted with one’s profession, it might be wise to seek alternative paths rather than subject patrons to such disdain. One ought not to project one’s bitterness and gloom onto customers who have merely come to enjoy a pleasant moment. If the role is so disagreeable, perhaps it would be more fitting to simply resign, rather than spread such negativity.

There’s no doubt that they sell the best matcha here and the most divine cakes but sadly it’s let down by their toilets that are in serious need of refurbishment. Each time I’ve been they’ve been filthy with ground in stains on the tiles and toilet, today they were particularly horrendous and left me feeling sick. The staircase that leads to the outside seating area is filthy and looks like they haven’t ever been mopped. So unfortunate because we’re paying a premium to dine here, the least you could do is provide your customers with decent toilets and stairs to walk down into your courtyard which also have a whole lot of separate issues.

Cozy Japanese cafe serving authentic sweet treats. Flavourful hojicha latte and absolutely in love with the matcha daifuku mochi. Matcha basque cake was rich and on point.

Had their matcha latté, was best matcha I've ever tasted. Great for reading a book over a morning coffee, catchup with friends, etc. Dećor also feels authentically Japanese. Highly recommended.

Matcha crepe and Matcha Daifuku with strawberry were not too sweet and we prefer the latter more! Slightly disappointed with the cold hojicha - can’t really taste the tea and it was pretty sweet. Though a friend ordered a hot matcha and it tasted fresh and bitter (which we enjoyed more).

Cute cafe, relaxed atmosphere. Delicious matcha. Shame they had no dairy-free desert options but understandable.

I visited Katsute100 in Edinburgh and Laureline happened to be hosting a tea tasting drop-in! One of two highlights of my entire trip (the other being feeding the hairy coos!). Really friendly and informative: a gem of an experience. Great matcha crepe cake too!

We tried the Matcha crepe cake and the Matcha Basque Cheesecake and they were so tasty and fresh. Not too sweet. The iced Matcha Chai Latte was interesting too. A bit on the pricey side but the atmosphere and the taste really worth it.

Came here many times but prices keep ramping up and service can be rude and not attentive. Today, I asked for an iced gyokuro, received a hot gyukuro instead. Sent it back to have what I actually ordered. In the end, I got water with ice cubes in a cup with the previously brewed gyukuro leaves. Very disappointing, I did not want to argue a second time. I won’t return, and make my own Gyukuro tea at home next time.

The cake is great. The drinks are just alright. But the staff are very rude. The staff taking my order is not welcoming and impatient. Very unprofessional.

Friendly staff guided us through the food and drink options. The matcha cheesecake and iced green tea were a refreshing change in the cosy garden.

Had the matcha Mille crepe multiple times and enjoyed it. The houjicha latte is delicious as well. I like the Japanese style decor and artisan ceramic tea cups/ pots (for indoors seating). There’s also a garden to sit outside (paper cups).

We had such a delicious meal at Comptoir Gascon, the cassoulet and the duck confit are amazing. The staff is really lovely and very professional, I will definitely go back there as soon as I can.

Charged my card twice. Mistakes happen, but I then spent a week trying to contact them using the only two contact methods available. Left messages on the mobile number provided - ignored. Sent several messages using the online form on the website - also ignored.

Accessible from the zebra crossing- just at the entrance to Chapel Market. Kind service from Melissa. Great area and quirky arrangement of seating towards the view of the shopping mall, stores and traffic.
