A cute little Japanese café, tastefully decorated and serving high quality matcha drinks and cakes. Phil really liked the sakura mochi, I liked the one bite I managed to get of it.

Came with with my Godzilla of friends Jerome (had to find a Japanese reference that the masses could understand). He had the matcha latte. I had a seat. He had a sakura mochi. I had a bite. He had an affection. I had a direction. He had a complexion. I had an er... erstwhile look through the window. Greenery, as far as the eye can see (provided the eye in question couldn't look very far). Beautiful decor, the matcha was green and tasty (wow!) and the mochi was pink and tasty (what?!). The staff was friendly. The walls were blue. And what more could a man want? Jerome was certainly satisfied.

The cakes are excellent and I highly recommend the Chestnut cake. It’s a must try in the area. However, the place is very small with barely any seats inside, and is almost always crowded. Great japanese tea house/ coffee shop near angel tube station! Katsute offers a wide selection of tea leaves for the brewed tea. There are lots of matcha and hojicha desserts to choose from and wide range of other japanese drinks. We went with the basic matcha latte and also the matcha cheesecake. And they were delicious just as expected. The latte tasted strongly of matcha, in a good way and it was not too sweet. The cheesecake held it shape up very well yet was still super creamy and delicious.

This is a Japanese-style cafe where you can taste authentic Japanese flavors. The matcha they use comes from Japan. The store is located next to the street and is easy to find, diagonally opposite the Amazon convenience store. Because it is very popular, there are often people queuing up and even ordering takeout, so if you want to sit inside, you have to queue a little bit. They have not many seats, but it is still a small shop, so don’t imagine too much. Very big. As for meals, their cakes must be the best. They are really delicious. The proportion of matcha is well controlled. If you ask me, you can come here just for cakes. In addition, their Japanese tea is also very stylish and the decoration is very Japanese. It is worth it. Come check in. It seemed to me that many of the shop assistants were Japanese. If you understand Japanese, you can come over and chat with them. They are nice and smiling and polite. I will come again in the future.

Today me and my partner visited this place. Ordered Rose tea. We know very well what roses smell like and regularly buy high quality rose tea. Today, we paid for something with not even a hint of rose. I asked a waitress if that was the right one or if they gave me a wrong teapot. I asked her to smell it and she said “It is rose”. She lied straight to my face and I insisted telling her there was no rose in there but she insisted with a rude manner. Same thing happened when my partner thought it wasn’t right to being lied to your face. Rude staff that clearly showed they wanted their shift to be over. Other than the tea, the whole place smelled of very old and dirty furniture. Lastly, a walk down the stairs made me be extra careful: the stairs had huge cracks, missing chunks of wood and there were edges from the wall right next, extremely dangerous (at eye level). No warning signs whatsoever. This is a health and safety issue. If anyone even thinks to inspect this place, they would close it down until repaired. Never going back to that place again.

Delicious Japanese teas sourced straight from Kyoto (I get my houjicha from there). The service is a hit or miss. They always are efficient and fast, but often the female Japanese staff there tends to appear very aloof and doesn't seek the client connection which often makes small, local places an all-star experience. I've been coming to this café since 2018, enjoying the friendly vibes and tasty treats. But lately, things have been a bit off. Prices are up, quality's down, and the service has lost its charm. Today, there was a bit of a blunder as my tea, coffee, and cake arrived – the waitress accidentally spilled my coffee on the table and tray. Instead of an apology, I got a casual "oops." It felt like a bit of a "Mokusatsu" moment, you know, that indifferent silence vibe. Politely, I asked for another coffee, and after a brief hesitation, they sorted it out. Still, after today's hiccup, I'm thinking of exploring other spots. There's a bunch of lovely places out there waiting to be discovered, after all. Just thought you should know. Cheers

The seating arrangement in the café is a bit crowded and the outside garden area requires significant improvement. Unfortunately, the seating around the tree and the lighting make it less enjoyable even on pleasant, sunny days. While the cakes are decent, the branch in Brick Lane appears to offer a wider variety. The latte is fairly good, although it could benefit from a stronger sesame taste. Overall, the seating layout and garden could use improvement, but the cakes are satisfactory and the lattes are decent.

There were 2 customer before me and I was happy to wait it took the lady around 10 minutes to take their order. It took her ages to find something on the till she looked through messages what’s apps she went on the other drinks looking at tags and I didn’t want to be rude so I was just waiting. At the end I just told her forget the sake just a coffee please at which point she was still carrying on trying to look for the price or barcode I didn’t understand and I didn’t want to seem rude to repeat my self. Finally after around 30 minutes I just walked out because I didn’t know what else to do thanks to the staffs inability to serve I got a parking ticket where I paid for 30mins of parking. The ambiance, both inside and in the lovely back garden, is truly sublime. The matcha drinks are breathtaking, and the staff are both courteous and unobtrusive. Overall it is a place of true bliss...with one exception. For some unknowable reason, there is a rule about having to drink from paper takeaway cups if you take your beverage in the garden. This is far from ideal, as the drinks and experience would be optimized by drinking instead from the delightful earthenware cups that patrons use to enjoy their delicacies indoors. I do hope this arbitrary and seemingly unnecessary rule is reviewed, revised, and ultimately relegated to the dustbin of void policies. That said, I very much look forward to visiting again.
