A charming spot in the heart of Angel for Japanese cakes, tea, and coffee. My friend and I visited on a busy Saturday but managed to find seats in the garden. The outdoor area is equipped with heaters, making it a cosy option even in winter. The atmosphere felt warm and inviting, and the cakes were delightful—excellent in both flavour and portion size. Prices are fair, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend!

Been wanting to get the matcha crepe cake for a while now and it did not disappoint. A little on the pricey side but understandable due to the hype. The matcha crepe cake was creamy with a perfect level of sweetness. I asked for a recommendation of a tea to have with it and was recommended one of the green teas. The tea went well with the cake, thank you for the recommendation! The interior design and atmosphere was great. I believe the place was a little bit overhyped for me but worth visiting!

Matcha was very weak, don't recommend at all. The sakaura mochi is not bad, but you can for sure find better ones else where. Staff is quite unhelpful suggesting having matcha in a take away cup, feels like they have no idea what their products are. Unfortunately this has been a disappointing experience

The portion size was appalling for the ice cream when I’ve seen bigger servings online. The servers are cold, did not greet or smile. He made me take the drinks in my hand when I was seated? When he put the order on table on another person’s table. All I could taste of the matcha was bitter milk - before it used to be nice and sweet but now I’m just so disappointed with the Brick Lane branch. Overpriced too for the food.

This place is amazing! Cosy and beautifully decorated right from the entrance, it offers a variety of teas and desserts that are simply delicious (they are very well-balanced, you can taste all the ingredients and they are not overly sugary). I recommend the Hojichalatte (it's not as bitter as matcha and it's nuttier), the matcha basque cheesecake (all the pleasure of a typical basque cheesecake, but with a matcha kick), and the sakura mochi (delicate and flowery). If I lived in London I’d be a regular here!

I got a hojicha flat white with oat milk. It didn’t have too much milk which often overpowers the hojicha/matcha flavour. I could still taste the hojicha, it was delicious, exactly what I needed to warm me up on a cold day. It was a pleasure to meet the adorable cat. What a beautiful creature. I can’t wait to be back to try their sweet treats.

The customer service is the worst I’ve seen in London. I went there a while ago and the cake and drinks were delicious, but the customer service was terrible. There were no signs or comments stating that glasses could not be taken outside, so I was sitting outside with a friend when an employee suddenly came up to me and dumped the contents of my glass into a paper cup right in front of me. Ta. When I said that I didn't feel comfortable, 🤷♀️she responded like this, and I thought she was a child who hadn't received any training. First of all, the response was really rude and made me feel bad :(

After visiting their Covent Garden branch (inside Uniqlo shop), I decided to go to their Angel/Islington branch. I visited today with a friend. As expected, there was a queue and super busy. Limited seating, but thankfully, we saw a couple leaving, and my friend secured a table for us. Approx 15 minutes queuing and ordering. We both ordered a matcha flat white and matcha basque cheesecake each. As a matcha enthusiast, I absolutely loved it! The basque cheesecake had a subtle sweetness, and the matcha taste was not as bitter. The matcha flat white does not contain coffee. Instead, it's a stronger matcha flavour, which I personally like. Authentic Japanese teas and delicious cakes. Price wise, it was not cheap so expect to pay more. Service was good. However, they did not monitor/clear some tables. We still had someone else's empty cups and plates on our table, but it was really busy at the same time. I would definitely go back here, but most likely on a weekday to avoid the crowd. I would highly recommend visiting if you love Japanese tea and anything matcha related.

I don't know what the fuss is about. I think the service is only good if the staff is good. In our case, the person dealing with us (an American Asian) could not have bothered to tell us wait for the matcha mille crepe, instead shoved us whatever was ready on the shelf while rolling her eyes. Apparently, that wasn't the practice (that they would normally give you a buzzer so that you'll pick it up once ready). Anyway I found her very rude and yes, the mille crepes arrived shortly after and we ended up being the only ones who missed it. What a waste of time

As somebody who switched to matcha and no longer drinks coffee, I find it incredibly hard to find a good matcha whenever I am traveling and cant make it at home. This was the best matcha Ive had in any restaurant/cafe/tea house outside of Japan. The owner brings all the matcha and tea options directly from Japan and has a selection of incredible Sake and Japanese whiskey to purchase. The decor is very Japanese and cozy and they have a beautiful courtyard garden outside. We ordered the ceremonial matcha and a flat white with soy milk (make sure to ask for unsweetened in all the latte drinks if, like me, thats what you prefer). My matcha (prepared koicha style was served in a classic chawan) and the flat white was frothed for a deliciously creamy drink.

The tea, astonishingly, was priced at £4.50 for a mere '180ml'. Quite extraordinary, considering that earlier in the week, the very same tea we had (500ml), at The Dorchester and The Mandarin Oriental for approximately £4.00 to £5.00. Truly, daylight robbery. A word of advice to some of the staff: If one finds oneself so dreadfully disenchanted with one’s profession, it might be wise to seek alternative paths rather than subject patrons to such disdain. One ought not to project one’s bitterness and gloom onto customers who have merely come to enjoy a pleasant moment. If the role is so disagreeable, perhaps it would be more fitting to simply resign, rather than spread such negativity.

It’s a charming little cafe always packed to the brim with customers. There’s no doubt that they sell the best matcha here and the most divine cakes but sadly it’s let down by their toilets that are in serious need of refurbishment. Each time I’ve been they’ve been filthy with ground in stains on the tiles and toilet, today they were particularly horrendous and left me feeling sick. The staircase that leads to the outside seating area is filthy and looks like they haven’t ever been mopped. So unfortunate because we’re paying a premium to dine here, the least you could do is provide your customers with decent toilets and stairs to walk down into your courtyard which also have a whole lot of separate issues.

This shop surprised me so much. I stayed in Japan on and off for three months last year. I love all kinds of Japanese cakes and desserts. I actually ate in a Japanese-owned dessert shop in London. It felt like I was back in Japan. The chestnut cake has a strong chestnut flavor and is a little on the sweet side, but overall it's OK. It makes me miss Saori, a chestnut specialty store in Kyoto. The black sesame cake is amazing. The aroma of black sesame is not sweet but not greasy. Every bite has the aroma of black sesame. My family likes this cake more than the chestnut cake. The black sesame latte didn't have much flavor. I had known better to try matcha. I didn’t eat the matcha cake this time, I’ll make it up next time. This is a Japanese-style cafe where you can taste authentic Japanese flavors. The matcha they use comes from Japan. The store is located next to the street and is easy to find, diagonally opposite the Amazon convenience store. Because it is very popular, there are often people queuing up and even ordering takeout, so if you want to sit inside, you have to queue a little bit. They have not many seats, but it is still a small shop, so don’t imagine too much. Very big. As for meals, their cakes must be the best. They are really delicious. The proportion of matcha is well controlled. If you ask me, you can come here just for cakes. In addition, their Japanese tea is also very stylish and the decoration is very Japanese. It is worth it. Come check in. It seemed to me that many of the shop assistants were Japanese. If you understand Japanese, you can come over and chat with them. They are nice and smiling and polite. I will come again in the future.

We went with my friends to get some fish and chips, we order, we pay, we wait an hour and the waitress arrives telling us that the fish and chips were finished. We decide to get a refund and change location. I don't recommend it to anyone!

A hidden gem in a residential area. Visited on a Saturday noon, after a walk around the highgate area. We were sat right away (they had quite a bit of available tables) Everything on the menu looked exciting and we had a hard time deciding. Eventually got their signature board and it was FANTASTIC!! My husband loved their sausage roll, and I was a big fan of the scotched eggs. We also got the bangers and mash and it was very tasty. They have a good selection of beers. It became a memorable (and one of the best) lunch from our trip.

Great home cooked food, Italian and Greek are specialties. A warm welcome in this terrific neighbourhood place.

Can't wait to come back here, maybe on a week day though. We just visited Common Ground today (a Saturday). It was buzzing, with a great atmosphere. There was a wait, however, around 15 minutes at the door, and about another 15 to be served once seated. Honestly though, the staff were lovely, and being very attentive considering the obvious work load they were dealing with, so I can't complain. The wait was well worth it when the food arrived. I had the French Toast and it’s maybe the best French Toast I've had in the city. The whole menu is pretty awesome though with some really unique options. The decor’s trendy, the vibe is warm ‘n friendly, and the general facilities seemed clean and well-maintained. Much to love, a solid recommendation from me.
