Lord Nelson Inn in Caerphilly

Ordered the BBQ fajitas and they were ready within 15 minutes and they were delicious. Staff were very welcoming and table service was great.

Very disappointed, can here for a family lunch food was awful. Vegetables were like mush ! Not one person enjoyed it. Service was good staff were very accommodating

Haven't tried the food yet but have been here lots of times for drinks with friends.my friends don't drink here very often as complain about drink prices I would rather pay that bit extra and be in a pub which is warm and welcoming than have a cheap drink in a deadbeat pub.was there earlier.lovely and warm with lovely landlords.lird nelson will always be top pub in nelson for me.

It's obviously had a change in management, Sunday Lunch is as good if not better than before ,the atmosphere is much better,even the Establishment feels warmer still no great choice of Beers(No Real Ales)will continue drinking the Cider when visiting, Cheers, K

Great local pub/restaurant. Had the best blue steak in a long time. Staff were friendly and attentive. Meals arrived in a timely manor and were generous in portion size. Prices for drinks and food are very reasonable.

First time I've been here and sadly not impressed. The pub was very busy so initially thought the food would be very good but sadly not impressed. Arrived on time and our table wasn't even set. Standard menu, nothing different to most pubs. Beer was good. But the one thing that really disappointed me which is a cardinal sin at any restaurant is serve us our meals at different times. The couple we were with was served their food and we had to wait a further 15mins for ours. Wrong totally wrong. Shame to say but won't rush going back there

We had share the love starter platter absolutely beautiful it was plenty after eating the platter we was fairly full the fish was beautifully cooked and the steak was done to our liking very friendly staff lovely friendly atmosphere and didn't wait long for our meals staff very happy and couldn't do enough from start to finish dessert was to die for which was the lemon roulade was very very nice will be returning for Sunday lunch 1 day Thank you

OMG, loving the Lord nelson inn these days, since the wonderful Sara & Mark have taken over as the new landlords, so welcoming,lovely people, their professional approach is admirable. Food is lovely and it is certainly service with a smile, the Lord nelson is now our favorite place to be, wishing Sara and Mark every success and happiness, you both deserve a tap on the back , see you soon x

Came in last night (28.01) with the in-laws who are up visiting. All thoroughly enjoyed our mains and desserts. Staff were friendly and checked us often to ensure we were okay or to see if we needed anything else. Pub itself is very cosy and feels very welcoming. Only problem we had was children in the pub being allowed to blare stuff from their iPad. It was so loud we were struggling to have a conversation. It was a Saturday night around 8pm, so didn’t really expect to be listening to children’s TV shows whilst trying to enjoy a nice meal.

Marvellous experience. Great new owners..lovely food. Will certainly return.

Stunning little pub in Nelson, first time visiting on Saturday for food with new ownership and can’t recommend the place enough. Pics attached of the food. Smothered chicken was like pulled chicken, and the lasagne was lovely too. It was very very busy when we visited, but our food and drinks came very quickly with the attentive staff. There were some naughty kids running around screaming where the parents had left them to their own devices, but the Manager saw and presumably told the parents to reign them in as this stopped straight away so this didn’t affect the atmosphere for other guests dining in the pub. Cant wait to return soon and also to have drinks in the lovely beer garden in the summer!! Also forgot to mention, the lemon roulade on the specials board was 10/10 for a dessert which I never usually have! Thanks Lord Nelson, we will be back!

Went here for a family meal on a Saturday evening, but unfortunately had a negative experience. We ordered the steak pie, 2 beef lasagnas and a medium rare steak. The pie good and BIL cleared his plate. Unfortunately the lasagnes were sent back as stone cold in the centre The steak was over cooked and mushroom and tomato were black to say the least, so this was also sent back. The manager kindly returned the steak to us at the table, insisting the meal was fine, which made for a very awkward situation. My husband refused to take the meal saying it was over cooked and a poor standard, but the manager replied he couldn't return it for a charred mushroom! He retorted that besides sending him over cooked steak and a black tomatoes and mushrooms, the lasagnes clearly hadn't been probed as they were stone cold in the centre, to which the manager said "we'd had them for 10 mins so the probably had cooled down!". She also stated they needed to reach a core temperature of 63 degrees which is incorrect for reheating food. In wales the FSA recommend reheating to a minimum of 75 degrees in order to ensure food is outside of the danger zone. 63 is the hot hold limit for buffets, not for cooking or reheating. Slightly concerning that this business owner has got the limits wrong! The lasagnes were cold in the centre, not slightly under or a little on the cool side.... They were cold, like from a fridge cold! We had to argue to get the items removed from our bill, which was uncomfortable to the point that my SIL had to remove herself from the situation and sit in the car! Such a shame as this is a lovely pub, which we visit at least twice a month, but now won't be returning. Had the manager admitted the mistake and come with an apology instead of an argument, we probably would've returned to try again and took as an off day in the kitchen. For now I'd say don't go unless you fancy frozen food or completely black veg, served with a side of 'beef' , pick another pub. Lord Nelson Inn, try harder.

We didn't have food, but the service was excellent. The staff behind the bar were polite and helpful. I loved the lighting, the ambiance was so relaxing. Definitely worth a visit 😀

The food and staff were great my only slight issue was how long it took between courses although to be fair we were a party of 32 so I guess this was the cause.

Lovely food, I am a bit fussy with roast potatoes, and I like them crispy, which they were not not. Everything else was brilliant. i enjoyed my meal, I would go again.

Had a lovely meal last night with great service. A very friendly welcome, no pressure to order. The food was excellent all meals were hot, well cooked and tasty. Excellent service, no need to go to the bar as drinks brought to the table. And all reasonably priced.

Popped in for an afternoon lunch with my family because the local cafe was closed. Lovely traditional pub atmosphere when walking in. It wasn't busy at all, and we were able to grab a table for the 4 of us. Staff were friendly and offered us to see the menu straight away. The menu had most of your traditional pup meals at reasonable prices. The meals were enjoyable. My Steak and Ale pie was great. If there were any quibbles it was the puff pastry was like a chefs hat. Huge :). But I prefer short crust in general, and my puff pastry less risen. Not a big deal really. Toilets were clean Coffee was slightly over brewed (bitter) again probably my personal preference. Overall, it is a lovely local pub with lovely staff, and would recommend if in the area looking for something to eat.

Sunday dinner here is superb, so tasty and well cooked. All the staff are super friendly and helpful with anything you need. Pub quiz on a Sunday is also a good shout 👍🏼 Love the little bar areas with sofas, such a comfy, warm feel.

Went there on saturday night we had 6 meals 2 currys were the same although we ordered different types, fish and chips some of us had a full garnish some of us just had lettuce very poor food, i hate leaving feed back but has to be the worse I've had in years.

I was amazed that this place was not packed and we got a table, as the food here was 10/10 a lot of my reviews normally pick out many faults, but, the Sunday lunch I had here was superb. Thank you chef

We stopped here for 2weeks the 1st time we ordered food was nice but we the the 2 and 3rd time was very disappointeing ended up just saying just take it back and the last night was worse so we side we are not stopping the last night because we were very disappointed felt let down so we asked for our money for the last night as we did not stop and side no there was a lovely man who works there he side there u go its out of my pocket so we side no how lovely and we felt let down and staying in here have locks in so trying to sleep was a nightmare my wife gone down as but still gone on very loud when have live bands the shower was not best in both Bath rooms one shower dose not work one shower leaks just

Firstly the meat (beef) was stunning, fell apart like a brisket Downside would be a lack of veg options. Just carrots peas and cabbage thats it Oh and you get 1 roasty which was incredibly salty Nice pub inside and out and staff are friendly Not my go to for Sunday dinner but not a bad little pub

We are staying in the area and last minute decided to come to the Lord Nelson for tea. So pleased we chose to come. The staff were lovely and very hard working. The food was amazing, with large portions. Highly recommended for food or drink. Brilliant atmosphere. Thank you. If we are back in the area I would definitely visit again.

Poor sunday dinner, poor attitude on manager when they had the drinks order wrong, had 1 measly roast potato and when asked they would not give more using the excuse of only having enough to share with everyone... poor if you ask me.. 1 per person is suffice is it? Beef was very dry. 100% would not waste my time here again. Edit: apparently guys anything more than 1x measley roastie is now classed as a buffet! No responsibility taken and obviously are passive aggressive towards customers. Good work.

Food is decent and well priced, staff are very attentive and friendly. Good atmosphere, very cosy. Parking available on site too. Good for a family meal - only notes for improvement is that in our party of approximately 10 people, by the time the last meal was served the first person had already finished their food, so the serving timings could be improved upon. Also, the chips very much seemed like "chippy chips" so I'm not sure if they are actually cooked fresh or bought in. Overall I was happy with the service and food and would return again.
