Best fish & chips in Eastbourne. We've tried many chippies but none come anyway near the quality and freshness that LJ's offers. The fish is always fresh, the batter light and crispy and the chips divine. The staff are friendly and welcoming too, it's our weekly f and c treat. Also great value and generous portions. I keep telling people, but this really is the best fish and chips in Eastbourne! We have cod and chips, served in a box, for takeaway. And when I get home (which is only a few minutes away) the chips are still crunchy and the batter still has the right texture. For a long time I said I would never buy takeaway fish and chips again. Soggy chips wrapped in batter for sky-high prices is a huge miss. These are the complete opposite. Recommend 100%.

My son and I were on a south coast trip. We discovered that there are a large number of fish & chip shops in Eastbourne... but which one to choose? We nailed it first time! We both conclude that these are the best fish suppers we have ever had. (And we have had many a good one over the years). We went for the large portions whereby the shop was able to give us a split of both the haddock and cod (as we wanted to try both). The portions were huge! The fish is amazing, the batter so crispy (practically grease free straight from the fryer), chips dry, beautifully coloured and tasty. It is very rare that a chippy can get both the fish and chips perfect. LJ's does just this. Absolutely loved it... we were super hungry... but could not finish our chips after forcing down the last remains of fish. Customer service was super friendly also. I'd rate this a 6 out of 5. Lol.

I don’t often have fish and chips as it can be hit and miss with the 6 or so that are within walking distance. Two friends recommended this place to me and it’s just a five minute drive so I thought I’d try it. Oh my goodness! It was absolutely delicious! They made the fish and chips fresh. The portions are huge. I’ll be back.

We are always over the moon when we go to ljs fish and chips. The staff are so friendly and always cater for your needs and they do gluten free options which is a bonus as my husband is coeliac and means we can have fish and chips as a family without worrying he’s going to get ill. We love coming here and will not go anywhere else also what’s good aswel it’s literally 5 minutes away from where we live. Thank you ljs, you’re amazing people and do good food! This fish and chip shop regularly tops all the others in Eastbourne for takeaways. Food always fresh, piping hot and generous portions. Not brilliant for eating on site, but it's not really set up for that. Would thoroughly recommend.

The service , quality of the food and the welcome were second to none! These people understand the concept of customer service. My only slight criticism is the lack of a baked potato option on the menu. I understand that this is a traditional Fish and Chips restaurant and that most punters are takeaway customers but there are a few who would welcome healthy options like baked potatoes and , maybe , a little salad. Give it some thought! The price of my meal was very reasonable.

They have a sign saying cash 10% off. I paid cash and paid full price. Don't advertise 10% off if you are just using it to lie

After trying Churchills several times and been disappointed,I just had to give LJs. Absolutely amazing, great crispy fish, huge portions and very friendly staff. Highly recommend a visit.

Great fish and chips delivered by friendly staff. Gluten free batter on certain nights so ring first to check but was delicious. My husband is gluten intolerant and we cannot always easily find gluten free batter, he had battered sausage and cod, really good portion sizes as well would definitely recommend.

OMG!!! absolutely amazing fish and chips. The chips were really crispy, cooked to perfection and the fish was not at all greasy, with a light fluffy batter. Extremely friendly service. Definitely the best chippy in Eastbourne.

Hot but oily we could pour the oil away. Reasonable size fish and chip portion. Fish could have been fresher and the skin left on.

Best fish and these home made chips I've eaten in Eastbourne over 17 years living here. The butter is not thick and soggy like some other fish and chips shops. Paul knows what he's doing, very much recommended. Chips are home made and they are just yummy 😋 You have to sometimes give it a go and change where you purchase your food,because you might be missing out on something nicer and good value for money. Go and see ljs on your next fish and chips supper.

Since finding LJ'S fish and Chips many years ago, no other fish and Chips come close. It's lovely to have a 'go to' consistency of standards. Not hit and miss, as other's prove. Paul and his assistant are always chirpy, as a regular customer the minute you walk in they know what you want and how you want it. And never fail to deliver fresh food, hot and delicious. I am always praising this establishment......because it serves great food every time. Sometimes you have to try somewhere else if they are shut, but always disappointing. I'd Rather go without! Big fluffy fish, big portions, fantastic crispy batter every time, and proper cooked chips. Cooked to perfection. Never had undercooked food. He knows his stuff.

Kept loyal to my old chippy as you do despite protestations from all around that LJ’s dies a really good supper. However I recently relented having witnessed a demise in our normal place and took plunge to order from here. Wow I am so pleased I did I’m just a little cheesed off that I left it so long. Good portions crispy light fat less batter excellent chips recyclable packaging and friendly staff. Give a try you won’t regret it. OAP is really good size.

This fish and chip shop is definitely one of the best! The quality is amazing, like the proper chip shop chips used to taste. The portion sizes are more than generous. I had a smaller than usual piece of cod than their normal portion size....

I stayed in Eastbourne for a few nights and on the first night wanted to sample the local fish and chips. I googled the area and this shop had good reviews, and I can see why. The chips were done just as i like them....

Friendly shop staff and a good menu. Fish and chips are superb. My only criticism is that the quality can vary at little when busy but 95% of the time their food is excellent and the best I’ve had in Eastbourne. Super value too.

Fantastic fresh fish and chips, best chip shop I’ve ever been to, fresh cooked fish with crispy thin batter, delicious chips and tons for the money, plus the details, the fish is in a separate box so that the batter doesn’t get soggy wrapped up...

Just eaten cod and chips for the second Sunday night in a row. Absolutely excellent. Lovely, friendly owners. Got to be the best in Eastbourne now and we have tried them all. Roll on next Sunday.

Was walking by while staying in a seafront Hotel. So as it was early evening I thought I would eat early (Hotel restaurant was not open until 7pm). Had haddock and chips. Portion was large, too large for a medium portion. The Staff were nice. But the fish just didn't seem to be 100% fresh. By the time I got back to the hotel I felt really bloated and not quite right. went to my room and within two hours I was bringing it all up and had severe diarrhoea. The sickness and diarrhoea lasted non stop for 6 hours and I could only take water for another 24 hours. I am worried about their food handling and how fresh their product was.

First time visit to LJ’s and very impressed by the friendly staff, excellent fresh cod and haddock and chips cooked to order at a very reasonable price. Will definitely call back for more of the same when we are next in the area.

Always top quality here, fish are a good size, the chips are nicely done and plenty of them. Chips free at lunchtime, don't know how long they will be able to keep that up. Makes a meal very cheap indeed without sacrificing quality. Plus in the evening they do a loyalty card. I don't go anywhere else.

Went to LJ’s because of great reviews. The fish and chips were nice but the battered sausage was absolutely disgusting. It was obviously a very low-grade sausage; slimy and foul.

Best chippy I have had in Eastbourne, I’m from London and on my second visit to Eastbourne I decided to give this place a go and I’m glad I did. It was worth the long walk from the station! Plus we got free chips at lunchtime! In London you can forget the quality and the price you get here. I wish there was a place this good in London.

Took a chance after reading such positive reviews and so glad we did. As was said, the batter on the fish was light and crisp. Rarely eat all or sometimes any when bought from a fish and chip shop, but was delicious and ate every bit! Friendly people, clean and tidy, piping hot food, reasonably priced. What more can you ask having a fish and chip supper having spent the day by the sea!

Best in Eastbourne, cooked fresh and perfectly, no greasy oily taste. No skin on the fish and crispy batter. The chips taste like they are prepared in the shop from fresh potatoes. NOT frozen 'taste a likes' We don't go to any other chippies now. Oh and the products are quality too.

I have tried all the fish and chip shops in Eastbourne and nothing compares to the quality and the very good value of this establishment......the fish I had was as white as snow and the batter tasted crisp to the end....I will forget going to the rest and just keep visiting this one ...well done to you all involved in creating a gourmet delight

First takeaway today from LJs, I’m sure this will be the first of many. The medium cod was a very good size with a light and crisp batter. We live a few minutes away and will no longer travel to Old Town for our fish and chips!

We got a takeaway from here for the first time this evening. Have lived in the area for less than a year and have so far been going to a rival at the other end of Seaside. Had also been to some others in town and one on Green Street. Our neighbours tipped us off to this place as being the best.Thanks neighbour! You weren't wrong.The shop is spotless, the service really friendly, prices a lot more reasonable than the other place up the road and the food is better.The fish (cod and haddock) were both well cooked with batter that was light but not at all greasy. Chips were delicious and again, not a hint of grease in sight. Mushy peas, curry sauce and gherkin were all good. Got a loyalty card, so the 7th meal is free and all of the packaging (save the mushy peas and curry sauce containers) were reycycable. What more can you ask for?Best fish and chips we've had in a long time. We'll definintely go back.

This is a very good chippy. Clean, organised, efficient, friendly and the food is cooked properly. The staff are very nice and there is even a loyalty card.

Excellent fish and chips, gluten free available. Friendly staff some seating available. Good service even when busy so not long in waiting for takeaways. Not tightly wrapped in paper, Individually boxed so don't get crushed and soggy by the time you get home.

For sometime now I've been meaning to pop in here and have something to eat. As I was in the vicinity I popped in for a light lunch. I perused their lunchtime specials and decided to have the 2 sausages and chips for £1.99. Whilst waiting for my order to be freshly cooked I glanced around my surroundings. The place was nicely decorated with decent table and chairs and it was spotlessly clean to the point you could eat of the floor! I don't say that lightly. Lots of places advertise the fact that they have been awarded 5* for hygiene on TripAdvisor but if you actually take the time and trouble to check the back for the date it was given most are 2/3 years old so out of date. When my light bite arrived the chips were nice and chunky and the battery on the sausages was so light and crispy. No sight of any grease on the plate even after I had bitten into my sausage. LJ'S is definitely well worth a visit. Not only do they have lunchtime specials but they do family bargain meals from £17.99 - £19.99 saving over £4, free chips with fish at lunchtime, and a loyalty card to earn free fish and chips. What more can I say except go along and try it out for yourself or family. I can assure you that you won't be disappointed.

We have been here twice in one week as the food is delicious and very good value for money.Where can you get a special offer for senior citizens aka (oap's) fish and chips for £3.60p .They have a varied selection of fish including Huss. Their cheese burgers are fabulous everything is cooked to order so it's piping hot and it hasn't been sitting around .If we lived locally we would certainly visit here once a week .You can either sit in or take away, the staff are friendly and helpful.

Have never been here and never met the people who run it but they are the best and I am sure their fish and chips are too! Going above and beyond to take care of a vulnerable young lady (my little sister) who’s wheelchair broke down (fortuitously) outside their shop. I live miles away in Reading but knowing they were taking such good care of her made me feel less worried! Lovely to see there are still kind and caring people out there! To all my Eastbourne friends if you fancy some fish and chips make sure you go here.

I use Lj's for takeaway Fish & Chips. Paul and Jo are very pleasant 'hosts'. Always friendly, good for jolly banter! They remembered my name after just one visit, remarkable, as they do have a large clientele.In my opinion, they serve the best Fish & Chips in Eastbourne, good portion sizes.

Just been in this evening (a Sunday) food cooked to order, generous portions, very reasonable prices. We'll definitely be buying our fish and chips from there in future. No battered burger on the menu but they happily cooked one for us. Staff were very friendly in there. Great chippy

Moist cod, delicate batter, fab chips.....fish and chip places serve much the same fare. What makes this chippy great is the superb quality and the friendly service They also do veggie burgers . Make this your local fish Friday treat....or better still, treat yourself any day of the week!

We bought our fish and chips here last year, and it was lovely. We came back last week, and it was still great. It has new owners and they are doing a grand job. The fish was skinless which I love, and the chips were free! The batter is light and tasty. We took it away and sat by the sea, enjoying every mouthful. There are lots of fish and chip shops along that road, but definitely look out for L and J's as it's food is outstanding. Staff are very friendly too. They do have tables should you want to eat in.

This establishment has been under new management several times over recent years , but this was the first time I have tried fish & chips at this establishment as my usual Fish & Chippy ( The Bamboo garden ) are taking a holiday. It hasn't been a successful business in the past and there are 5 Fish & Chip shops in Seaside so the competition is fierce !However , these new owners have completely renovated the premises with a modern and attractive look and the place is spotlessly clean and fresh. To add to this the food is good quality and nicely cooked so would not hesitate to go there again. I would say however that just slightly bigger portions of chips wouldn't go amiss but apart from this I would recommend giving this place a try ! Prices ?... not too bad , slightly more expensive than ' The Bamboo Garden ' but a lot cheaper than the ' Dolphin ' at the other end of Seaside which frankly is not good value as they are very pricey ! LJ's are also giving new customers loyalty cards so after buying 6 full price fish & chips you can get your next one free... a nice touch !
