Little Hunan in Kingston upon Thames

They don’t take card. Only wechat payment and cash. This is totally illegal and unacceptable in 21st century. And the food was not authentic either. No reason to visit again. Dishes were not clean either.

Proper Chinese cuisine. Absolutely my favourite hot pot spot in London.

What a stupid place. I don’t want to give it one star. The entire store staff was like the whole family was in mourning. The service was extremely poor. They started rushing people away to clear the plates before they finished eating. Are you in a hurry to visit the grave if your family members are gone? Order the spicy chicken, I wish you would go bankrupt soon.

We ordered mains with two bowls of rice but they brought one bowls of rice.I was reminding him but he ignored us. I ordered tea he said OK. After 30min I asked him he said do you still want tea but it takes 15mins. This is my second visit. Previous visit, I was asked transfer the money but he add vat .( his son). I think HMRC should visit them.

This was such a treat. A friend brought me here to celebrate my birthday. It's a lovely local and authentic cafe. Good menu and very tasty pumpkin pancakes. The staff were very friendly and welcoming 🙏 l certainly would recommend it. There is seating downstairs and close to Kingston University.

Fantastic restaurant, serving dishes you often don't see in the UK.

We don't want give any star because we have very bad experienced last night. We have ordered Poached Sliced Beef In Hot Chili Oil, but looks like some customer left over then give to us beause only few beef and no tast at all. Many other restaurants will give beef a lot even can't finshed. We very regret spent £120 in this restaurant. We won't be go to again!

I would say an average Chinese restaurant as I didn't find anything extra ordinary. Please do note that they only accept cash and you would need to pay for street parking if you are driving.

I ordered 3 dishes , include two noodle and one authentic Chinese dishes , for all these four choice , 1 . Portion is very small , not up to normal restaurant standard，noodle was only half potion compare to a normal Chinese restaurant , my beef noodle only has four very small piece meat in it , 2 presentation and taste is home cooking standard. 3 staff looks so miserable during for the whole time , they look Angry and too serious , it made to feel I owe them money , is the worst Chinese restaurant I have ever visited in uk , if I do not have my kid around , I would make complaint for sure . 食物分量非常少， 我点的面条两份只有普通餐馆的半分的分量，点的牛肉面里面只有4块很小的肉， 煮的食物味道和品相还不如家里煮的水平 ， 员工非常不友好 ，让人感到压抑 、如果不是孩子饿需要吃一些东西， 我会拒绝付服务费甚至餐费 .真的是 完全是骗钱 .

Got delivery and the lady refused to come upstairs , food wasn't good either, cold dumplings that weren't fresh , chicken satay was questionable, prawn toast was stale and the rice smelt like baking soda , chicken chowmein the noodles were dry and had spring onions in there which were layered snd just inedible and the chicken and sweetcorn soup was bland and spent 46 pound which for what I got was very bad also had crispy beef that was terrible was just crisp no beef lol very bad

This is a nice little Chinese restaurant in Kingston. The staff were really friendly and I found the food to be very authentic. I think it would be best to come with a group of people and try a bigger selection of dishes.

服务态度非常非常差，想吃热的锅 点上来没火要求服务员加火，问了三遍就是不加“这个菜已经可以了要不你们就别点火了”“你们这个等会点了火人要热的”说完也不听我们同不同意转头就走，我觉得热我会脱衣服。 来了好几回和服务员说谢谢从来不回应也不看你一眼，进点没有服务员迎的，服务费么老高，怎么有脸收的。老板娘亏么一点不愿意吃，送个外卖收5磅多服务费，微信支付宝转账按实时汇率往高了开。付个银行卡还要要求顾客多加钱给他们补税。天天偷税漏税是吧，早点倒闭 忘了说了 卫生也特别差 一直飞小虫子…真的很恶心

We didn’t order much typical Hunan cuisine dishes as some of us are a “picky”with their choice of food. The intestines dish was good. Roast duck was ok, the wraps were not homemade, so can make better ones. Singapore noodles are average. Didn’t like the sweet-and-sour chicken- never like them not a Chinese fish really. Sizzling beef dish was ok - have tried better one before. We haven’t tried their hotpot. The menus/ food that you can have look good, but will update this next time. The Soju on the menu are not Korean soju, it’s just the very strong Chinese rice wine at 56% Alcohol. You wouldn’t like it if you are not used to the taste. On street parking is pay and display or by app for one hour or two hours opposite side of the road. Staff are friendly and offer good service. Will try their hotpot and give you the final verdict.

Ordered 'salt and pepper crispy tofu' . Was silken tofu, undercooked. The opposite of crispy . Colour as white as a wedding dress. Texture so squishy my mouth would squeak and squelch. No flavour I feel like the forgot the salt and pepper. Tasted like cardboard. Was really dissapointed as we thought it would be brilliant given how much it cost. In summary we ordered salt and pepper crispy tofu but what we got I can barely confirm it was at least tofu. Misleading .

Overall good food and very sympathetic and helpful personnel. Only downside, is they take no electronic payment

I go here pretty much 4-5 times a week. The food is amazing, quality is second to none and the price is so cheap. I love their service and their attention to special requests is just amazing. Try their special chilly oil if you like your food a little spicy and I guarantee your taste buds will be dancing with the burst of flavours. I love their hot/sour soup l, Chicken with cashew nuts and fried rice. The owner is such an amazing lady, kind and generous. Would 100% recommend to anyone.

Beautiful little place with more of authentic Chinese food for a change. I wanted the hot pot for myself and it’s usually for two people minimum but they sorted it out for me which was really nice. Highly recommended and we will be back

I was surprised at how I managed here, genuinely thought the mountain of red chillies would finish me off but it was flavourful and balanced, it could even be spicier for me. Next time I come I'll be more adventurous and get the hot pot. Nice you can BYOB too, and staff were lovely and took time to explain everything for us. Mad I haven't been here before but walked past it most days over the last 6 odd years.

We ordered home delivery last evening and had some left for later. When I was serving it now I found something in the sweet and sour chicken that looks like wire. Attaching a photo to show the wire around the red pepper. Last time we ordered, my daughter had a bit of upset tummy a few hours after eating sweet and sour chicken. Fortunately it wasn’t severe but we were lucky. Two incidents in a row beg the question - what’s the food preparation hygiene there? Even, what’s the ingredients quality of prices are so low? I’m really sorry but we will not be eating there anymore.

Best authentic Hunan food I've tasted in the UK and I'm a Hunanese... For people who don't know much about Hunan food, it has close style to Sichuan food but with different signature dishes. I would describe it as fragrant and flavoursome, spicy but not necessarily with every dish or ingredient. The owners/managers were lovely and really helpful with orders. Price was friendly too compared to those central London options..

My husband and I really enjoyed the four dishes we ordered today. They are authentic and delicious according to my high Chinese standard. I would recommend to people who haven't tried Hunan cuisine. It's famous for chilli dishes but for people who don't like chilli, they can ask the chef to reduce the chilliness. Congratulate to the chef.

Nice Hunan restaurant in the neighbourhood

Very authentic Sichuan Chinese food and have great variety of dishes. Prices are also reasonable. Where it says spicy, it IS very spicy so don't take it lightly and tread carefully if you can take chillies well :) Eating here actually reminded me of food I had in Chengdu China - spicy and deciduous! They also have lots of non spicy options available. We'll be coming back for sure

Their Hotpot dishes are amazing. You have a lot to choose from to create your own. I have been their customer pre Covid and every time the food is perfect. I will recommend if you prefer some real Sichuan style food (spicy).

Came here for dinner with friends. They recommended the spicy fish dish which turned out very nice. The portion was generous and flavor was quite authentic. It wasn’t as spicy as I thought. The price was quite reasonable for just over £20 per person and we ordered 5 dishes. The staff are friendly but the decor and restaurant ambiance is typical Chinese restaurant, nothing special.

Went to little hunan for the first time today. Service was great. Food was ok-ish… would I go again ? May be…. But wouldn’t be my first option. But it’s worth the try….

Most authentic food from the Hunan province, spicy and flavourful dishes. Recommend to anyone who wants to experience real Hunan/Sichuan Chinese food.

This place is a real Gem.....food is outstanding. Very authentic menu with a great variety of dishes. The seafood is always fresh. I feel I must also give a special mention to the vegetable dishes and to the cold starter menu, all of which have blow my mind. I have been lucky to eat in some of the finest restaurants in the world and this place is up there. I would go so far as to say that this restaurant, and it's chef of course, deserve a Michelin star....

Was enjoying this until they tried to make me pay for 10% OPTIONAL service charge. The dish was £9.50, and I had a £10 note and no other change. Since they do not take card and the 10% service charge is optional, they should have accepted the £10 (£9.50 plus 5% tip) with grace. Instead I had to politely argue with two waitresses who insisted I pay £10.50. Considering that many restaurants with much better service and ambience don’t ask for service charge I don’t see why Little Hunan can justify forcing you to pay. Additionally at £10.50 it was a very stingy dish, with little noodles, meat or veggies. Many other Chinese restaurants will give you more. Won’t come back here again.

Went with family heard rave reviews had few starters spring rolls straight from a pkt.and wings that were deep fried over and over and duck noddle soup the broth tasted of nothing the roast duck was dreadful and the noodles tasted of nothing.i don't know who reviews you or what they have but it's a mystery to me.

Their traditional Chinese spicy dishes are really tasty. Friendly owner and staff. My husband regrets not ordering more dishes and takeaway 😂

Our favourite Sichuan Chinese place. We regularly order from here! Favourites are the Cod in Chilli Oil, Spicy Lamb and Fried Chicken in Chilli.

Great restaurant with amazing food. As a spicy food lover, I will give top score for the food they are offering. They do have non-spicy menu as well, and my kids loved the food as well. The portion is also pretty generous. The staff/owner of the restaurant was very friendly. I would definitely make another visit.

Food - steamed rice, very dry, greens of sorts cost nearly eight notes. Tripe dish served up faster than a McDonald's burger Busy restaurant, must be doing something right, very extensive menu. Service charge 20% and pay cash only. Much better value at er mei restaurent Lisle Street, similar cost much bigger portions that u end up taking home plenty and NO charge for the containers. Dined at Hunan Pimlico when it first opened, do know a bit about Hunan and Sichuan cuisine.

Having lived in China for over 4 years, it is fair to say that this is some of the best Chinese food around. Not particularly flashy looking, but typical of the type of small restaurants you find on every street corner in China & the taste very much the same!!!

My friend recommend me this place, but I think it wasn’t the best choice. They have more small portions of dishes on the menu than other Chinese restaurants. I was still hungry after eating all of the ordered dishes. Even they accept cash only. 😭

Fantastic restaurant serving spicy Chinese foods. This must be one of best Chinese place in the SW. Classic spicy dishes are great as fresh ingredients are used. There are dishes with exotic ingredients which cannot be ordered in other places. It is family friendly place and the service is very friendly. Hence, watch out. They accept cash only.

Delicious food very authentic Chinese affair, wonderful service, unfortunatey potato was missed from an entire dish and had to be added later, rice was also amiss until requested feels like a lack of care, very expensive we did want to order the shared hot vegi pot but it would have been £58 for 2. Really loved the general experience wished prices were a little more reasonable and orders were taken correctly 🙂

Decided on Little Sunan as we walked past it. Even though it looked small and not over the top glamorous, I can assure you the food was definitely worth it. We ordered home delivery and arrived in 10 - 15mins (even though we were told it would be 30mins). We ordered the chicken in oyster sauce, beef in Szechuan sauce and salt and pepper king prawns as mains and were all delicious and full of flavour. The noodles and egg fried rice were also very tasty and the portions were a good size. Overall, we were very happy with the food and service, and it was great value for money. Will definitely be ordering/visiting again!

The dishes are as good as before. Unfortunately, today, when we double checked the bill amount, the waitress showed bad attitude (mild rudeness) to us and insisted the bill amount was correct because they charge 10% service charge and 50p for each takeaway box on the raw bill. Eventually, you have to pay everything by CASH ONLY, as they refuses any card payment. Now, I have checked their published mini annual report (No: 11762829) on Companies House, the owner keeps reporting losses to suspiciously avoid paying taxes in last few years because their reported revenue seems NOT in line with their cash revenues.

The food was very tasteless and the service was very rude and choppy. It was too dry and the spices weren’t flavoursome. The meat was very cheap and low quality. Would advise others to avoid. The price was too high for such low quality.

We have enjoyed Chinese food living near Bayswater and in Melbourne and generally not very impressed with local (Esher/Surbiton) Chinese. This was full of flavour, fresh, spicy and hot. The service is also lovely; efficient and friendly, from the moment you come through the door. Don't let the Xmas reindeer baubles put you off. I'll be back next Sunday! Excellent value for money.

Delicious beyond belief. My favourite Chinese restaurante in London. This is exactly what Chinese food tastes like in China. Most of the time I think Chinese restaurants in Europe generally adapt flavours too much to match our taste, maybe a wrong impression. Not in this case though. The people were friendly and really nice.

Most authentic Hunan restaurant I’ve eaten in London, period. The owner family are from Hunan, lovely and warm people. The presentation, the aroma, the ingredients of the dishes stir such nostalgia and feels like it’s bringing me right back to my hometown. It is low key, the decor isn’t the best, but it doesn’t need it. The food really is sublime!

First class food and service, I really enjoyed my lunch. Excellent value and good size dishes. I really could not fault a thing, and the restaurant was full on a Monday upstairs and downstairs.

Had dinner here with family. Lovely staff and incredible food. We had chili chicken, fish, off the specialty menu, as well as aubergine with french beans, all beautifully spiced. I will be thinking about this meal for a long time. I hope to be back next time I am in Kingston!

Recommended from my brother in law who's a local foodie. Had a delicious meal of the house special grilled fish, fried chicken, and green beans + eggplants. A very approachable level of heat. Kids had the plain fried noodles which they appreciated. Service was fast and friendly. Speed of the food coming out the kitchen was amazing given the high quality.

Food tastes so yummy and good price! You can eat whatever you want! Suitable for family outing. Need to make a reservation before you go. Recommend hot pot with beef/shrimp 👍

Authentic Hunan style Chinese food. Don't expect westernised Chinese food, this is the real deal. Would recommend the Squirrelfish and the dry pot skewers (if you can handle spice).

Despite looking rather unassuming from the outside, this place has to be on the hit list of everyone with a longing for highly accurate Chinese cuisine. Our family is from inland China (not far from Hunan) so our expectations for a taste of home were high (and met completely). We ordered a Ma La Xiang Guo and a selection of largely Sichuan and Hunan dishes, everything arrived fairly quickly, served with a smile, and was of a standard that we'd have been happy with if it had been served in a good local restaurant back in China visiting family. This restaurant is unassuming, easy to walk past with barely a sideways, but to walk past is to miss out on the absolutely most authentic and delicious real Chinese food we've had in years, in the UK, not just locally....

Definitely the best Chinese restaurant in London outside of Chinatown. It's family run and the staff are brilliant and friendly but it's the food that tips it into a class of it's own. Seriously authentic flavours, genuinely mouth-numbing spices and the range and diversity of dishes is incredible! Usually you'd expect a really authentic place to only offer a small and niche range of dishes but this place does a vast range of dishes in such an authentic way. Delicious grilled rabbit, spicy lamb ribs and then incredible east Chinese dishes like West Lake Soup! We will definitely be arranging for a babysitter so we can come and have the dine-in experience.

I had takeaway from here for the first time today - poached beef in chili oil and vegetable fried rice. It was absolutely heavenly. Can't wait to try some more of their menu. (PS: Beware, only cash accepted!)

This is a real hidden gem. Having visited sichuan I was looking for somewhere that served authentic dishes and the food here is by far and way the best in the area. From twice-cooked pork to fish fragrant aubergine, everything is delicious. They are also extremely friendly. Highly recommend!

Wow what an amazing Chinese restaurant. The selection is amazing and the food is so delicious. While it has the “traditional” British take away dishes, I would recommend trying the more authentic Chinese dishes as those are amazing.

Excellent Chinese food of both Hunan and Sichuan styles. We had several dishes between 5 and enjoyed them very much. The service was friendly and relatively quick. One thing to note, they only accept cash which is a minor annoyance but there is a cash machine nearby.

Horrible food , not much sauce , very bland

It is a joy to eat here. The dim sum are gave made on site (as opposed to frozen from a packet). The menu is hugely varied which offers exploration of less common dishes as well as plenty of familiar items.

Food Taste is OK and portion size is good *Egg fried rice - not enough egg and spring onion, but not oily (which was good) *Pork Intestine dish - Good. Sweet sour chicken- batter was thick and can't taste chicken. *Fried Hofun with beef in black bean sauce- Good. A waitress was friendly. Downside is they only take cash.

5 of us, my wife is Chinese, and I've been to China 3 times and eat home cooked Chinese all the time. The food is very good, in truth much improved compared to when they started We had 59 Dry fried chicken with chilli 100 Lotus griddle 129 water boiled beef 141 fried pork in scoop 154 kung pao chicken 187 dry fried beans with pork 194 aubergine white rice x 3 + noodles

Very nice food reasonably priced

Very tasty and fresh however the chicken meat may not be to everyones taste. It had an unusual texture which was not expected. I think it must be very authentic since it reminded us of our travels in Hong Kong when we found the same. Still give it a go.

This is the second best Chinese restaurant in Surrey/Southwest London after the Yimchai, but at half the cost. The food is very good especially at the prices offered with a wide variety too - there are many dishes that you don’t find in Chinese restaurants at this price range. That said, if I am allowed to make one suggestion to the owner, is to reduce the menu while keeping the variety of unusual dishes - the food is very good already but this step could uplift those dishes to excellent. The family that run this restaurant are also very nice. Highly recommended. Average cost of takeaway for us (family of 4) is £30

Takeout. Standout dishes: aubergine with pork, dry fried green beans withh pork, lamb with cumin. The chicken chow mein is delicious and we always get this to keep in the fridge.

Such delicious food, this is my favourite chinese restaurant! Such a sweet family run this place, they are happy to offer recommendations and deliver food very quickly! Their tofu and broccoli is amazing, you should definitely try it!

We regularly go to this restaurant and love the food because it is fresh and absolutely delicious and a bit different. The family go to no end of trouble to make us feel welcome and ensure we are happy with the food. Feng will recommend new dishes so we are working our way through the menu. We take our friends there and they all love it. We are now in lockdown but pleased that they are doing takeaways so we can have our fix tomorrow night!

Just had a take away from here and the food tasted great. We eat it all and the duck was really done and all the flavours were very tasty. Lovely phone service and more than happy to help.

Really like this place! They have two menus, one with 'Chinese' food which Westerners have become accustomed to and one with 'proper' Chinese food. I have to admit I wasn't brave enough to go for any of the more exotic sounding dishes (for example, crab ovary)! I did try the mustard greens rice though, which was fantastic. The staff are super friendly and the prices are reasonable.
