The Lion and Fiddle's Gurkha Restaurant had been recommended to me and it did not disappoint. We had probably the best onion bhajis ever. When ordering the main courses we had to specify medium or hot: between us we chose Chilli Chicken and Gurkha Chicken, and both were delicious. The waiters were polite and attentive; overall the service was good. Would certainly consider another visit.

Another fantastic meal at my favourite restaurant! The food was as good as always. My Lamb mustang which on the menu says”VERY TASTY DISH” most certainly was! And never ever a chewy piece lamb unlike most restaurants. The staff are always very friendly and nothing is too much to ask for! If you’ve not been before I can highly recommend you visit, you won’t be disappointed. I’ll be back soon. Thank you for a great service 👍

What was that you served up this evening , the sauce for the poppadoms was mayo, the chicken tikka was very dry and the keema Nan was some sort of purée . When I confronted your waitress after dissecting it she said it was lamb 95 quid come on your having a laugh

We came here for a meal a week ago for a Birthday party for 22 people. It was the best curry we had so far. Very pleased with the service and food. We were greeted with a warm welcome and they brought us a dessert cake for our Daughter Birthday. Also loved the authentic decorations of Nepal and their rich culture. Thank you Chef and the Lion and Fiddle Team. We will be back again.

We went here to celebrate a friend’s bday and was met by rude & indifferent service and mediocre food. The food was very overpriced for what is a very average taste. Stay away unless you want to end up with a ruined evening

If we could give a 0 star, we would. Please spend your hard-earned money somewhere else. We had the worst service in this restaurant. The "manager" (who turned out to be the son of the owner, so in the end we had no one to complain to!) was an unbelievably arrogant & rude when we questioned about a £3.95 charge on our almost £100 bill! And we were insulted by him saying "this is not McDonald's you know!" The food was ok, nothing special - overpriced for what it is. Please do yourself a favour and just eat in a real "fine-dining" restaurant and drive an extra 20 minutes to Bath.

Nice decor. Friendly staff. Heard about the food and it did not disappoint. Friends had the sharing starter which was enough for 4 people. The main courses were equally as nice, huge portions. The mustang Chicken was very hot(spicy). The Ghurka prawn & lamb were similar to a madras. My Chicken Korma was creamy and delicious. Definitely will be going back

We had heard about the curries at this pub/restaurant, so decided to give it a go. We both had the traditional Gurkha curry (be aware that 'hot' really does mean hot!), and were not disappointed. Do not order too many side dishes unless you are very hungry, as portion sizes are generous.

I had Chicken Malai starter and Gurkha chicken curry with boiled rice The starter was just a few pieces of very plain chicken that seemed like it had been microwaved. Wasn't much flavour and it wasn't a good starter at all. The Gurkha chicken main was better than the starter but nothing special really. Slightly watery. Friend had a mustang tikka chicken dish and that was nicer. Prices are sky high. Nearly £5 for Pilau rice!

We booked here for my sons 16th birthday for a family meal, we booked for 16 people and on arrival our table was ready and we went up earlier in the day to drop off the cake. The restaurant was lovely and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The food was lovely we all had starters and mains, once we had eaten the staff brought out the cake with much care. The waiter and waitress couldn’t do enough and always kept us topped up with drinks. I would highly recommend this place and would definitely return :)

I've been here a few times with friends but this was the first time visiting with my family which included 2 children. The food has always been amazing but today I took notice of the kids part of the menu. There are more many options - Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Korma and Fish Fingers. My daughter went for the Chicken Korma and rice and the portion was generous. My teenager ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala from the adult menu and I wouldn't have said there was much difference in the portion size. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the service was, as always, very good. Booking recommended. We booked on the day and they just about found us a table.

Great food in the burka restaurant with friendly Nepalese owner's.The bar area has been modernised and much brighter, but maybe a little less seating. The only very annoying problem for us is we always used to go for a walk with our well behaved little dog and have a drink in the bar,but the owners have banned dogs. They say it's due to serving food in the bar area, but food has always been served in the bar area before without a problem,so I can't understand this!Apart from that it's a good local.

I was part of a group of friends that came for dinner tonight, and we all ordered different Nepalese curries. We were slightly concerned when they all came out very quickly (potentially a stock pot that would all taste the same as in other local curry places), but they were actually all very individually tasty and full of flavour. Excellent breads and rices, and very friendly efficient service. Really look forward to returning again.

We attended for an evening meal along with a wheelchaired member of our group. The environment is very pleasant - the Restaurant was pretty rammed so I was very pleased we'd reserved. The orders were quicly taken although I think the bar order was lost somewhere since it took longer than is acceptable for drinks to arrive. Starters and main courses delivered in a reasonable time given how very busy it was. Clear views into the kitchen as the Chefs worked to keep the meals flowing.

Had the Lion & Fiddle recommended for lunch so decided to give it a try. Bar one person the bar was empty where we ate so atmosphere was low. Bar choice on larger was very good and the service was friendly and polite. Now to the food, the Gurkha chicken was very flavoursome and plenty of it, the Cajun chicken was a large tasty dish could do with some sauce. The gammon was thin and over cooked as was the fish batter over cooked came out very dark brown. I’m guessing from this experience the Gurkha main restaurant food is good, may give that a try but not the lunch menu.

Having lived in trowbridge for ten years I’ve never thought about going to the lion and fiddle in hilperton. It’s now been taken over by the Gurkhas and I can honestly say it’s one of my favourite meals ever and I’ve travelled the world! Fabulous spices which add flavour and not just heat. The onion Bhaji was light and not greasy and as a vegetarian my two sides which they recommended were fabulous and plentiful! Lovely people too and this is a happy Eden gem!

Very unwelcoming & an awkward seating arrangement to boot. Even the previous landlord who was useless & disinterested managed to create a friendlier atmosphere. We gave it a go a few times after the refurb as it’s our local, however it just feels as if you’re not welcome. Also the mob at the bar look at you like you’ve just burst into their home uninvited! The only time we were acknowledged was when we popped in after walking the dog. We were chased straight out by the owner with flailing arms & shouts of “dogs aren’t allowed anymore” by the mob at the bar!! It’s as far from being a county pub as you could get.

Cant fault the food but having been there quite a few times with clients we noticed the portions have since decreased in size a fair bit. We invited some friends over to experience the food at the L&F; restaurant which they enjoyed but when we got the bill they added an extra 10% on and said we had to pay it. We strongly protested and were told that they had just introduced the service charge (probably to pay for all the refurbishments in the bar area) and that it was stated on the menu. When looking at menu's you are only looking at what you want to eat. The owner eventually knocked the service charge of the bill with reluctance and said you will have to pay it next time, to which we replied 'there will be no next time' as we will not return and will not now recommend or take further clients or friends there. So check your bill before you hand over the credit card or cash because add on service charges are not mandatory to pay in this country

Hilperton is just on the outskirts of Trowbridge ,the county town of Wiltshire. Not necessarily the sort of place you would expect to find a really good Nepali restaurant but here it is . Excellent food well presented by helpful staff in a pleasant setting.

A traditional style Indian restaurant – i.e. no frills and candelabras, which is usually a good sign that the food is going to be good and I was not disappointed. I do not know why this restaurant is not busier than it is. There are a number of places to eat in Cricklade, however the food and service here outshines them all. The staff were very attentive and our order was taken promptly with food arriving in a timely manner. I could not fault any of the dishes we had and will definitely return sooner rather than later.
