Friday night, fairly quite, faces from years ago still using the pub, that must say something, but still places to sit. Warm weather, people sitting outside in a spacious beer garden. Good pint of OB,not as inexpensive as it was, staff ok. Large gently sloping ramp makes wheelchair access easy. Dog friendly.

Such a shame its lost it's soul. This place was a massive part of Middlesbrough pub scene and now the heart and soul have been dragged out by the brewery. Its drab, its dull and its boring. Such a waste of a beautiful venue!

It's the Linny, Boro institution. It might not have music (& look a wee bit run down being honest) but on a sunny day here it's the best pub to be at. Huge grassy area outside to sit on plus the benches give it a bit of a festival feeling in the sun as folk chill all over as good vibes flow all round. Long as you can handle Sammy Smith's brew you'll not find a better pub when it's sunny. All about the grass to sit on, love sunny daze here

The Linthopre Hotel (lovingly referred to by locals as 'The Linny' ) is almost a right of passage for the people of Middlesbrough. It is a bar only! NOT a hotel! There are no rooms available so this review is a BAR review. It is owned and run by Samuel Smith Brewery and follows their rules, such as having no TVs or Music and now does not allow swearing. The rules are laid down by the brewery for all of ther establishments. Some people dislike this, in which case this pub may not be for you. However, it does create an excellent atmosphere for sitting and talking to people. It is very comfy, friendly and the regulars (whom have been there since the dawn of time) are happy to talk to everyone. Due to the fact that it is brewery owned, the managers may vary over the years, as is common with managed houses. There are two bars on the premises; the main bar at the front through the double doors and a smaller bar at the back. The Back Bar is closed most of the time due to the fact that there isn't enough business during the quiet periods to staff it. However, the back bar does have a pool table and dart board. I am unsure whether the pool and dart leagues are still in operation. The Main bar is large and spacious, with an open fire and 3 'snug' areas. There are Games machines as well as Ladies, Gentlemen and Disabled loos. The bar is wheelchair friendly. The outside space may be one of the largest pub gardens in Middlesbrough (though I don't have statistics to back that up). There are plenty of benches, trees and grass areas as well as a sizeable car park. It is also one of the most budget friendly establishments around as the prices are set by the brewery. You will typically pay between £2-£3 per pint depending on the beverage, with the 'Pure Brew' lager being more expensive. If you want wooden-cask ale or average lager, expect to pay around the £2.30 mark. Cash only! There are no card readers! Drinks are to be ordered and paid for at the bar, which is standard practice in wet-only pubs in Middlesbrough. The staff are usually well trained and effecient. There is no flare here, you order a drink, you pay, get your drink and you're off. If it is quiet, the staff may engage in conversation but speed is a priority here, which isn't bad if you come for your beverage! So, the possible positives of this pub are: -Affordable Prices -Usually quick service -Homey Atmosphere -Friendly regulars - Huge Outdoor space -Wheelchair accessable -Large car park -Good selection of products -No TVs or Music or Swearing (if that's not your thing) -Open fire -Plenty of space HOWEVER, there are some things to consider when visiting the Linthopre Hotel... Cleanliness/maintenance. Sometimes, I feel like I need to wear a Hazard suit to use the ladies room. There is thick dust on the lamp shades and the paintwork could do with a touch up. The other common issue is customer service. There isn't any most of the time. The emphasis is on efficiency. The pub is either quiet, so the staff can get on with cleaning duties or the pub is SUPER busy, so they need to get drinks out as fast as they can. On the other hand, this is a boozer, not a fine dining restaurant. The 'Kick out' time is very strict. Since the laws surrounding drink up time have been abolished, the time the pub gives customers to drink up is very short. It used to be 20-30 minutes, and now is between 5-10 minutes. Last call is 11pm Mon-Sat and 10:30 on Sundays. Samuel Smith Policy is to lock the doors half an hour after last call, however, the Linthopre Hotel starts kicking people out the door 5-10 minutes after last call and locks the door 15-20 minutes after last call. This can mean that people can buy a pint at 10:59pm and expect to have half an hour to drink it but the pub only allows half that time. So, all in all the negatives are: -No TVs, Music or swearing -Only Samuel Smith Products -No Alcohol Free 'Beer' -Very Strict 'Kick out' times -Little to no customer service when busy -Needs some TLC
