Linhs Chinese Restaurant in East Cambridgeshire

I cannot say enough about this restaurant, the food was excellent and the staff were the most friendly. We really appreciated the tablecloths and setting as where we come from, Pensacola, Florida, this is unheard of. Everything there is take away or gaudy. The Linh is situated in a fine old building with the added charm of old English beams and a true feeling of friendliness. English is fluent and they act as if they really want to serve you. Thank you, we’ll be back for sure on our next visit.

Ordered chicken in yellow bean sauce with cashew and got something different that dyed the chicken pink and everything else in the mix. Wasn’t tasty and was more like a stock sauce.

We attended the restaurant for a birthday. 5 of us and it didn’t start well. We arrived after my parents and we had sat down and waiting. It turned out they had sat us at different tables and my folks were on a different table round the corner. The incompetence of the staff and their complete lack of organisation was pretty shocking. Now on to the service. We ordered and some were mains and couple were starters but wanted all food at the same time. Duck came out, then nothing. In the end my dad ate it so asked where the rest of the food was? Coming was the response, prob a good 10/15mins wait still nothing. Then my ribs came, but still no sign of anything else. My wife went to ask and they said they thought we wanted starters first! Lairs honest the BS, duck is not a starter and if that is the case where was the rest of the food? Finally we saw some food and they redone my ribs but I was passed it and sent my food back as no longer hungry. They brought out another duck free of charge but to little to late. They can’t cope with it being a restaurant and a take away. Chaos watching them work is the best I could describe. If you want good service go someone else, plenty of choice but avoid this place. I could not recommend it. No complementary drinks while we waited, no offer to take something of the bill. Probably the worst experience I’ve had in a restaurant. Avoid it is my only advice.

We had a takeaway Chinese. As we have always found, perfect. The meal was very tasty and filing. We rang the order through on the phone and there was no waiting. This remains our takeaway of choice every time.

Lovely meal and great service. Haven't been to Linhs for awhile but was well worth the drive. One of the best Chinese meals we have had for a long time. Very good value as well. Will be returning again soon. 10 out of 10

Freezing cold restaurant, cold food poor wine. We have been coming here for 20 yrs. worst time ever. We booked early as had school age children with us . Always go here for family events. The restaurant was so cold even staff had coats,hats on. Some of the Food was cold. My husband ordered red wine. It was awful, told them and they hadn’t got another only house wine, so they offered him squash and another soft drink. No he wanted red wine! Will not be back which is a shame after enjoying it for many years

This restaurant has the recipe for success - good food, reasonable prices and very pleasant staff. We like to visit this restaurant whenever we are in the area; the food is simply delicious, plenty of choices and good value. We like to choose a set menu and find it makes eating here an amazing dining experience. On this occasion we asked if we could swap out a sizzling beef dish for the sizzling lamb one, the friendly waitress said the chef would be happy to oblige. The food is freshly prepared and cooked to perfection. We tend to not have desserts when frequenting Chinese, Thai or Indian restaurants, as the costly brought in frozen desserts or scoops of ice cream do not inspire us at all. At Linhs this is not the case, my husband and I are still talking about the awesome banana fritters and ice cream we had. I can’t even begin to describe how good they were. Try them yourself and see! The restaurant also appears to have a popular take out menu, we envy the locals that are able to use this option.

We picked up a Chinese take away. As always, food was good, ready when we got there, pleasant service.

Excellent food and service. We have had take-away food from here very many times and have never once been disappointed. Very good food and service. Whenever we have collected the restaurant is full, which is always a good sign.

We came in early to order in person for a collection. Gave them 45 minutes to prepare the food. Came back at the agreed time which they were happy with. We are still waiting for. 45 minutes and people who had telephoned ahead all collecting theirs. Peed off. Won't order from them again. Terrible. Couldn't offer us a drink on the house!

The wife and I visited this restaurant and I was disappointed ☹️ with the service and food. When we entered the restaurant we were put on a table outside the entrance to the toilet with no door on the entrance and a thin partition we could hear people in the toilet and the electric hand dryer constantly running. We ordered our drinks the we ordered from the set menu. We then had to wait nearly 25 minutes for the soup then the hot starters , duck came which I found very greasy, then there was a 30 minute wait for the main course which came in bits and starts first the veg then we waited for the prawns & Rice and then a long wait for the beef which had loads of garlic in the dish which made it impossible to eat . We then ordered our dessert of the menu my wife ordered lychee which came straight away I ordered banana fritters which I waited so long for , so long I had to ask the waiter when it was coming because we like to eat together. The banana fritters was served in thick batter and again very greasy. Then there was a long wait for the bill this was after asking for it so long I went to the counter to pay .

The portion sizes are quite bad and do not reflect the prices. The containers are not full and the meat dishes have more sauce than meat. When the owners were spoken to about this they initially refused to increase the portion and did not think there was a problem with the portion. Instead they offered a credit note! The customer service has been generally poor the last couple of times we have ordered. We do not feel valued as customers, we understand that businesses need to cut back, however the price still has to reflect the product.

Not overly impressed, never tried this place before so we ordered a takeaway tonight. The take away containers were only 3/4 full and the Singapore noodles had no spice at all and was a bit tasteless. Prawn toast was really small and also tasteless. Food was collected exactly when told to but the food was not hot, it was already sitting on a table in the kitchen with quite a few other orders. We would not order from here again.

We were recommended Linhs as we had just moved into the area. What a mistake, straight in the bin went the takeaway. We ordered the staple takeaway of Chicken curry and beef in Black bean sauce. If they cannot produce that to a a decent standard we are in trouble. The curry was a watered down gloopy substance and the black bean was equally as bad. It really did defy description. An experience never to be repeated.

A very, very disappointing evening, the service was very slow and some of the dishes were cold. Over an hour between starter and main, people were waiting over an hour in the restaurant for takeaways. The table next to us had the wrong food delivered and we’re told to just try it because they wouldn’t redo the order! Will not be going again!

We had a takeaway tonight 18/12/2021. We were not impressed! When we got the food home there were a couple of things missing. We rang up to let them know and went to go and collect the missing dishes which was a second trip to Fordham from Isleham. When we opened up the chips we only had a quarter of a packet, stone cold. The pork was tough. Chow mein was cold. Overall very bland and very disappointed! Will not use again.

Had a beautiful meal here whilst staying nearby. The staff were so welcoming. Thoroughly enjoyed! Would definitely recommend!

Linhs is our favourite Chinese takeout/restaurant. We order a set of vegan dishes (recommended by Linhs over the phone as the vegan dishes aren’t called out on the menu). It’s the best feeling having delicious vegan Chinese food in our village! Thank you Linhs! We love you!

I always call and order, my husband always collects and can honestly say that from the minute they pick up the phone to when we get it home and dig in it’s exactly what you want in a Chinese takeaway! Friendly service, always ready when he arrives, never once got an order wrong and tastes delicious!

As always very very good food. Restaurant is spotlessly clean covid rules followed to a T Staff always very happy to help and very friendly.This is a small family run business that provides top quality service, top quality food in a clean and safe environment .We are very happy to be customers.

We went to Linhs like we go quite a few times a year and the food is excellent, we all love the Set Meals we've never had a bad meal there and we've been going there for 20 years and we all live in Fordham. We've had take away meals never had any problems. In fact we're going this weekend.

Great food at a reasonable price. Only thing that let the night down was a 45 minute wait for a drinks order to be taken, then another 10 minutes for drinks to arrive. Probably wouldn’t return based on the wait time for first round of drinks.

A lovely restaurant that never fails to impress. Excellent food, very friendly service and reasonably priced. Thoroughly enjoyed the special menu to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Unsurprisingly, the restaurant was packed tonight.

We love Chinese food but Linhs Chinese this was not one of the best we have tasted, also unable to locate a Menu of any search engine and no Menu displayed on the outside of restaurant.

Always a friendly welcome, the menu is varied a the dishes well presented. Above all it always tastes wonderful and is reasonably priced. By far our favourite Chinese in the area.

My wife and I went for an evening Meal an enjoyed the great food and wonderful attentive service so much we went back the following evening for a different Chinese meal. The whole evening was just wonderful, food, wine, beer and attentive service. We will go back next time when in the area.

We stopped by here on a saturday for dinner as we wee staying at the nearby Trinity Hall B&B; (which I highly recommend!) and we wanted a quick, no frills tasty meal.

Well worth a visit. Reasonably priced and excellent service and food. Ambience was good too. We enjoyed our meal.

We live in Ely and lost our last Chinese restaurant about a year ago. There are still good takeaways but no sit down restaurant so the hunt has been on for a decent local alternative. This weekend we tried Linhs on the back of the good reviews on here.

There is a large and varied menu but perhaps four dishes for vegetarians. What we ordered was good, freshly prepared and served very quickly. It is good value and the staff were friendly. Does not have a website apparently.

We were a little disappointed with the food. The service was very quick. The food wasn’t as good as the Chinese restaurants local to us in Kent. We wouldn’t revisit I’m afraid

Our stay was at a nearby B&B; (Trinity Hall - we highly recommend) and Linhs was the nearest place for an evening meal. The interior is very pleasantly decorated and we were greeted an shown to a table. We ordered from the set menu and our food arrived promptly for each course. It was very tasty. As much as I enjoy eating Chinese I often find the food over salted. That this was not the case here was a welcome relief. A quick word on the service which was very attentive

Can recommend linhs for nice atmosphere, welcoming smile and attentive staff food is superb plenty of it reasonably priced . Good for carry outs or eating in .Suggest you book a table for weekends as it is often very busy or order early for carry outs waiting times can be long .That said it backs up my review that it is good .

Arrived at pre booked time. Nice greeting and friendly. Waited some time for menu and drink order. Waited again to place our order. Waited again for the start of our set meal. Soup and starters . Nice chicken and sweet corn soup and hot. No sauce on the two ribs , sea weed very salty, it is usually quite sweet - disappointing.Yet another long wait for main meal of 4 items. 2 of the 4 dishes arrived and then another wait for the remaining two. Not the best of food, and disappointing in all aspects. There was a table of approx. 10 who arrived shortly after us and I got the distinct impression that the priority was with them. I sympathize that there was only 1 waitress who was serving everyone so she had a tough job, but this should have been planned for and this in itself would not have made a difference to the taste of the food. It just didn't live up to our expectations when reading the other reviews on trip advisor. Yet again we waited for some time after finishing our meal. At this stage we decided to leave. We were then asked if we would like tea/coffee. We normally would, but decided we would like to be at home for breakfast!!! We went to the counter to pay. My husband at the time did say we would not come back. Great shame.

We visited here as we were staying local and went for a wonder. For a small village there is lots of food choice to choose from so we decided on the Chinese.

We visited the restaurant without booking on a Saturday evening and as we walked in we could see that it was full. Fortunately a couple were just on the point of leaving so after a short wait they prepared the table for us. Clearly you need to book to be safe.

The Restaurant has been serving the local community for the passed 26 years under the same ownership. This was my first time here and had a good atmosphere. We were promptly shown to our table but then the wait for drinks which was really unnecessary.

The restaurant was not too busy for a Friday night but service was still slow. The food was unspectacular although the crispy beef was good. It was however not very expensive.

Friendly staff, inviting atmosphere and nice food. Food ordered will appear as and when it’s ready not necessarily served all at the same time. This I can imagine would annoy some diners, especially large groups but goes with the unique dining experience, enhanced by the falling Chinese lanterns from the ceiling and the view of the ‘Henry’ vacuum cleaner against the wall. None of which spoilt our evening.

Been looking for a Chinese Resturant as there is not one in Ely and was recommended Lihns, was warmly greeted by Lihn, given time to look at the drinks menu also main menu. We went for a set meal for four and couldn't believe the amount of food we got, plenty for everyone. Lihn is very attentive and a good host. Food arrived hot and tasty will be going back.

If you want a meal where everyone's food arrives at the same time, don't eat here especially on a Saturday night! . If however you want your food brought to your table as soon as it's ready, piping hot, freshly cooked and extremely tasty, eat here! Food arrives when it's ready so it's great if you are sharing dishes. Prices are very reasonable and food is consistently good. We have eaten here for a number of years and have never had a bad dish. Booking recommend especially on Saturday.

Went here on the basis of fabulous reviews. Very busy which was a great sign, but maybe this ended up being the problem. We waited an absolute age for the food to come, which wasn't at all remarkable upon arrival. Really not better than average. The team were lovely when actually interacting but this was scarce. We ate up and left as soon as possible, not even waiting for the bill to come to the table, instead going to the counter to pay. Even then not a query as to whether anything was wrong. Yes there was!

We were a party of 12 and left the meal choice to Linh.She p rovided a real feast with soup ,crackers ,Peking duck with 3 pancakes each,5 great dishes and rice,sweets A great atmosphere again

Just moved to the area and looking for nice takeaways, never ever complain or write bad reviews but I am shocked by all the good reviews, ordered a takeaway was 20 mins late, got the food home half was cold, chow mien not normal noodles they were thin rice noodles dry with no flavour, mini spring rolls only had 4 usually get 6 in all takeaways, crispy chilli beef was soggy and stuck together defiantly not fresh! Curry was mediocre and so were the chicken balls half of which were soggy and batter undercooked. All portions were small the only thing that was nice were the prawn crackers!

We pre-booked a table as we had heard the place got very busy on a Friday, it did.

How is it that we have stayed in Ely for years and not found this little gem in Fordham. What a great find!

L:inhs have been in Fordham for around 26 years or more, that says it all, Linh is always pleasant and ready to have a chat, foot is always good, and she is always ready to turn on another fire if the weather is cold, nothing is too much trouble.The menus is extentive and a good selection of all meats /chinese dishs, but could do with a change from time to time, even if it were a weekly special night. having been going there for years, we know the menu back to front, but it is always good

Before I went to this restaurant I looked up previous reviews, which were quite varied.My lady and I decided to find out for ourselves, so we booked a table for Valentines night, and we were not disappointed. We found a restaurant with an unique mixture of 15th century and Chinese decor. We were greeted warmly and friendly by Linh herself.I have no complaints about the food which was served promptly but not hurried. I will most certainly revisit this restaurant again.

Shown to table but waited twenty minutes and still nobody came to take a drinks order let alone our food order. It gave me a chance to look around. The carpet is absolutely filthy. There were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and the dust along the picture rails was unbelievable. There was a ladder, a hoover, stacked chairs and a mop and bucket all stored near the coffee cups. When we left no one enquired why we were leaving. Horrible place, they seem to be more interested in their take away business. So please shut this place for a couple of days and give it a good deep clean.

What a lovely little gem of a place hidden on the high street, you'd never know it was there but once inside the food is beautifully cooked and flavourful. Yes the decor may be a little dated but it doesn't matter when the foods that good!!

We booked a meal for tonight as it was our wedding anniversary and wanted something a bit special.We chose a set meal for 2 and a bottle of house red wine. The waitress was very pleasant and friendly and made us feel at home which was nice. The meal was of excellent quality and well presented and very tasty.The portions were more than adequate. On balance I can't say I've had s better Chinese meal and we will certainly go again.

Love the food...if not able to eat in...we often have take always...service can be slow....but it is worth the wait for the food...staff very friendly...

Linhs is not the place to go for fast food, but if you want a night out with great Chinese food cooked to order you will love this place, unlike some Chinese restaurants, the dishes here have individual flavours (not all tasting the same) and are good value for what you get, Linh herself serves at table and is a great character, always ready to chat and answer any questions about the menu, use the chop sticks and take your time to enjoy the atmosphere, I can recommend the spicy prawns.

This offers one of the best Chinese meals we've had, and as a result we don't like to have it too often, so that when we do it's something special!The staff are always really friendly and greet us as friends, and the food is just wonderful. We haven't sat in to eat, but do intend to at some point soon!

We went here for the first time last night with our 2 children. Staff were so friendly, helpful and really good with the children too. Food was delicious, one of the best Chinese meals we have ever had! Would definitely recommend.

We have eaten here many times in the past and our recent visit was as good as usual. You are given a warm welcome and the restaurant looks very attractive. The prices are reasonable and the food is also very good value for money, I had the mandarin beef fillet which I would highly recommend.We will certainly eat here again.

We were a family party of 7 from teens to oldies, most of us had visited before but not for a couple of years. The service was a little slow but we were happy to linger over the meal and make a night of it. This is not luxury dining but good honest food at a good honest price with some of the cheapest drinks I have seen in a long time. The bill was just over £130 for seven of us including a few beers and several glasses of wine. Whats not to like!

We went here on a recommendation, funnily enough from my wife, who had visited just weeks earlier. I found it to be at odds with itself. The food was very good and we were met by the owner who served us all evening. The main issue that I had was the cleanliness of the table between the courses and attention to detail that detracted from the experience. I can only assume that because it was mid week, the staffing levels were at a minimum and that left her stretched. Because of the food and value I would go again but I think I would pick what I would expect to be a busier night, the service might be better.

What a delightful experience. A clean and friendly restaurant, serving excellent food and plenty of it! Food was well cooked and presented at an affordable price. Well worth a visit for a sit down meal or take-away.

Linhs used to be a very good Chinese in the area but sadly recently I have found the food to be standard cheap takeaway fare with a restaurant price tag. Had a chicken dish, apologies a cannot remember the exact one, but the chicken was dry and rubbery and the sauce which should have been spicy had an overwhelming sweet taste. In addition, service is lacking. On one occassion my party has walked out before even ordering drinks after being left at a dirty table for 25 minutes and no-one coming over. With other very good Chinese restaurants not far away linhs needs to up its game and get out of it's time warp

Took my girlfriend here after a recommendation from a friend. It's a small, intimate setting. We were given a warm welcome on arrival and shown to our seats. The menu covered everything you would expect from a Chinese restaurant with a few other things that catch the eye. Drinks menu also has a lot of items from beers to champagne! Only problem with drinks would be that the cokes were from large bottles and seemed a little flat. We opted for one of the set menu choices and were happy to find out that if we wished to make any changes we could. Food was then brought to the table in good time and cleared up after each of the five courses. Food was hot, tasty and well presented! First time I had tried a toffee banana and really liked it, could of done with some ice cream though?! Overall a very enjoyable experience and will be returning to enjoy more of the menu!
