Had lunch here and wished we’d booked for dinner before arriving. Staff and locals were lovely and friendly and made sure even our dog was attended to. The lunch was very nice with plenty of options and I would highly recommend coming here for lunch and I’d even go as far as saying the menu looked great for dinner too.

We chose to come here last minute for our anniversary after a day out. Phoned at half 6 and got a table for 8 without a problem at all. The staff were all lovely and even with a very large table (we were warned of a long wait) for a party, the service was very quick and friendly. Food was all hot and very tasty, and definitely felt like service charge was deserved, they do say this is optional and they can remove it if you wish. Also lovely to have options of some traditional South African dishes like bobotie and spring rolls as this, I have found, is very uncommon and coming from a South African family was a proper gem to find! Not the cheapest but definitely worth the money! A very well run pub with brilliant food and we will definitely be back in future!

Been here numerous times and always had excellent service, unfortunately this time was not the case. We arrived for Sunday lunch and were seated accordingly, whilst we were eating we were approached and asked if we could move to another table in order to accommodate a party of eight, not wanting to cause a fuss we agreed, in hindsight I feel it was totally inappropriate and rude. No real apology given and service charge added. In future if they need to do this, then do so before the food arrives and not whilst eating. We were left feeling really embarrassed and couldn’t wait to leave.

Seven of us for a family reunion, great welcome, nice clean table. Food was very very good. Fish and cheese looked and tasted good. I had the Steak and Ale pie. So much steak there was hardly room for the Ale! Excellent. All 7 guests were very complimentary. One point lost for disabled amenities, as the narrow steps into the toilets were extremely difficult to navigate with a walker. Anyone with a severe disablement would not get in. Otherwise an excellent lunch. Thank you!

We booked a table for four of us and a dog after passing this pub whilst out and about and we are so glad that we did! Our respective hubbies decided they wanted to go to the car museum so me and the daughter in law took our seats in the gardens of the pub for the afternoon, enjoying a bottle of wine and the lovely sunshine. 5.30 and the men returned after their enjoyable afternoon at the museum and we took up our table in the courtyard area for our meal. All I can say is the food was beautiful and cooked to perfection and the service was impeccable. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. If we are ever down this way again we would not hesitate to stop off here for a meal. Thank you for your hospitality!

Arrived at the venue and the entire car park was full for bike night. All well and good to have these events but think about your other guests too! Got seated and ordered food however the food was so bland and tasteless. The young blonde girl who first took our order was nice however the rest of the staff didn’t seem interested at all and the service was terrible for a quiet night in the pub. One staff member with darker hair slammed our drink down spilling half of it on another guest and just walked off with no apology. Definitely not worth the price or the service charge they add on.

We came across this pub on a drive out, it looked nice and inviting from the outside. It was after 3 and wasn’t sure if we were too late for food but were made welcome and getting food was no problem! Had a good choice of dishes. We had a steak and ale pie with chips and a fish and chips both meals were delicious! Would definitely stop there again.

We came across this gem whilst returning from our break to North Devon and we’re grateful we took the opportunity to stop in. We were greeted by Jason the owner and his very friendly and helpful staff , it’s easy to feel anxious when far from home entering a public house but my family and myself were made to feel at ease immediately. We were informed about our seating options and given it was a hot day we chose to sit in the beautiful Willow Garden but not before having a sneak peek of the Secret Garden offering a more shaded option. Our children loved the willow garden and the space offered to them to allow them to have a run around. We settled down for dinner, my wife opting for the Sea bass fillet with garlic, chilli and ginger oil stir fry with veg and fries from the specials menu and I choosing the Bacon and cheddar burger. We were both very impressed by the quality and the great tasting food. My wife even called her sister to tell her that she’d made a mistake in choosing to go for typical service station fast food over a great tasting meal. The burger made with locally sourced produce was the best burger I’d had in a long time. We’re both disappointed that we live 2.5 hours away from the Lime Kiln Inn but will make sure we stop in again should we be passing through again. Thank you to Jason and his staff for an amazing meal made even better by the friendliness of the staff. We understand that Jason has taken the reigns since December but recommend any locals to go back to this once struggling pub to appreciate the change. The Lime Kiln Inn is in the best hands!

Just enjoyed a fantastic Sunday Roast at the Lime Kiln. The patio area is beautiful and just right for a warm day, undercover but open and well decorated. The roast dinners were perfect with just the right amount of vegetables. Desserts were amazing. Service was excellant. This was our first visit and stopped in for a bite to eat this evening on our way home. The pub and food menu looked great. We placed food order for dinner at 8.10pm after 45 minutes we questioned where our food was and would it be much longer as it was now 9.00pm. The young man who was serving us and who had taken our order said he would find out and after another 5 mins he came back and told us that it wasn’t ready and sometimes the orders would be in someone’s back pocket or at the bottom of the pile. He told us that the chef received our order at 8.30pm some 20 mins after it was given. Our food was still not ready at 9.00pm so we decided to cancel our order as we had to be on our way home some distance away. We found this experience very disappointing and unacceptable. If they had told us there would be a significant wait time we would have gone elsewhere. I also overheard a table next to us being given apologies for the wait.

My mother and I have just had lunch here. On entering the pub we received a nice warm welcome and were asked to choose a table, they would follow. The owner followed very quickly to take our drinks order and we were ready to order the food straight away. The drinks were delivered very quickly and quite soon afterwards our starter arrived. The scallops and black pudding were beautifully presented and cooked perfectly, they were gorgeous. Mum and I had the same main as well. The fish and chips were almost certainly the finest I have had in quite some time. The fish was lovely and fresh, the batter golden and crispy with a cracking crunch. For the price, the quality of the food was superb, my family will be returning very soon. All of the staff and owner should be very proud of the food and service they give.

Peas were a little over done but hey you can’t have everything! My husband had ham egg and chips which was cooked really well . We booked into the Lime Kiln which is part of the Butcombe group so with the loyalty card on Wednesdays there's 25% off which is great! The staff made us feel very welcome and the food fish and chips and festive pie was very good as was my pint of Goram! I only have one negative comment and that was the cost of the Stateside Session IPA recommended with the festive pie, at £4.45 for a bottle. I won't be buying it again Goram at £.30 less and for a pint wins hands down!!Anyhow not to detract from the overall impression it was very good and I will be back......drinking Goram!

Staff were good and helpful. Both had starters, I had mussels and they were very nice and a good size portion. My partner had a beetroot apple and walnut salad, this was mainly just a plate of rocket, very disappointing. I had fish and chips and it was nothing more than....ok! The chips were cooked from frozen and the fish although cooked well was pretty tasteless. My partner had a cauliflower steak curry and the curry tasted on the same par as a ready meal. Good food and beer, if a bit expensive for what it was. The main problem is poor staff attitude and training. Arrived for lunch and under the current circumstances throughly read all the safety notices etc at the door and by the bar. We were shown to our table and orders taken. The problem arose when we asked for the bill. We were told by our waitress it was card payment only !!!!When we questioned this, she said you should have read the sign by the door!!!I am in my 50’s and am of the generation that when you go out you take the relevant amount of money to cover your day out, fuel for car etc and I don’t like using cards. Luckily we have Apple Pay on my mobile, so paid for meal this way. As we were leaving I politely suggested to the man at the bar, it might be a good idea to tell people it’s card only as they come in, we could then have decided to go elsewhere. Again I was told it’s on the sign. When I looked for the sign ..... there isn’t one and on closer inspection there isn’t a sign anywhere!!!!I pointed this out to the man on the bar and was told to get over it, it’s the “ new norm “..... everyone is doing the same thing. Suggest a bit of staff training required. My wife was in the trade for 30 years and would never have talked down to any customer, especially when they are trying to make a helpful suggestion even after I had been lied to. In the last 2 weeks I have been in 6 pubs, from Yorkshire to Devon to Cornwall to Shropshire. Not a single pub has had the same policy, so I guess it’s not the “ new norm “We pass here a lot as I have children that live in the area, at least in future we will just keep going.

Nice pub, great food - just a shame it’s often sold out! We’ve been to the Lime Kiln several times now. It’s great asset to the Butcombe pub family and the staff are all friendly and helpful. Service is well paced without being rushed. I can’t help but feel it is a victim of its own success - regular dishes on the menu are often sold out and on both most recent occasions we’ve visited there have been no specials left as they have sold out at lunch. This is always a disappointment when we visit.

A great place to stop off for lunch - the menu has some interestingly different ideas. We booked our table via the website which was easy and we were met with a very warm welcome. The food was served fresh, hot and was VERY tasty as is the local beer. The inn is dog friendly with biscuits in a jar on the counter for our four legged friends. There is plenty of seating in the original part of the pub as well as a bright restaurant area which is separate. The toilets actually have steps up and are 'snug' but very clean. All credit to the staff who are all lovely. This is definitely a place to return to in the future and if Dinner is as good as the lunches then they deserve 5* every time.

6 adults + child for late Sunday lunch - 14:30 hours . Happy engaging Barman.2 disinterested , inattentive young waitresses, very slow service to our table - when only another couple & a single in the rest of the place of 50 odd covers ? 3 x chicken & 1 beef were acceptable, everyone liked the big Yorkshires - I had the pork which was a dry piece of meat, under the yorkshire - hiding the small taster portions of various veg underneath without any roast potatoes : another of our group (at the other end of the table) later said that her pork was equally elderly & dry - I wish I'd known at the time . . . . . . ! Requests for additional sauce were partly filled . . . . . with very small portions, in ramikins & a tiny gravy jug.At paying the bill , including drinks - just short of £200 - 2 blank faced waitresses were surprised at my comments about the dry pork & poor coffee sweet ! They just took the money . . . . .Lots clearly spent on the glass doors , patio & building refurb: but neither the service nor the atmosphere were anywhere near as good at we had experienced /used to, prior to the refurb - Get your own drinks from the bar , whilst eating ? No reason for staff to return to the table at all !

The Lime Kiln has the great advantage of being a Butcombe pub, which has financial benefits for those with a loyalty card (and, incidentally, a birthday). The surroundings were nice, the beer was excellent, the service prompt and friendly and the food well-presented and very tasty. There was a reasonable choice on the menu and the only problem was that they did not seem able to tell the difference between trout and salmon: still the person who ordered the trout was equally happy with the salmon and a good time was had by all. The beef was good, but my husband would have preferred that the beef and gravy, was not on top of the veg, as it made the roast pots. soggy. The veggie option was an aubergine and mushroom loaf with cranberry sauce, but was just like a thick mushroom sauce over the top of the veg, not very loaf like. However they both tasted very nice .We shared a sticky date pud, which was also good. Will be going back to try other dishes.

Its turned into more of a chain, which is such a shame .Visited on a Thursday evening, the restaurant wasn’t quite but not busy. My boyfriend wanted to order the rib but it was sold out at half 7, they only start taking orders for food at 6. The menu is very limited, literally 10 things to choose from, all mainly beef based. There was very limited vegetarian choice. The lack of choose was very disappointing,we both had the burger which was ok but nothing special. There were two members of staff running the whole place, which they did well as we didn’t have to wait long to be served for drinks or for our order to be taken, but they were clearly stressed. We reserved a large table and told we had to pre order, we did pre order but on all subsequent calls to the pub/restaurant the phone went unanswered and eventually to voicemail, so we left the pre order choices on voicemail.

We dined here on Friday night and had a great evening meal, fresh and lots of flavour. We had the pie and kiev and some of their homemade desserts. We enjoyed it so much that we came back today for Sunday lunch. Our roasts were excellent which had plenty of meat and had a good variety of vegetables. Table service great and really attentive staff. We will definitely be back and highly recommend a visit.

Called on viewed menu a day before, and decided to bring family for Sunday lunch as there was something to suit all tastes. The food and service was as we expected and everyone enjoyed the meal. Prices were on par for the area.

Historic old pub with a beautifully decorated restaurant extension. The menu has something for everybody without being too lengthy. The three of us had Fish and chips, burger and chips and braised cheek of beef pie. All were beautifully presented and a fantastic quality with a taste to match. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The chef has a very impressive beard to boot.

We have used this restaurant out of preference when in the area and have always had a great experience as my prior reviews have shown. Now it is totally different. To start we booked and were told very busy can't fit you in until 20.00, shame but we accepted that . We arrived at 19.30 to find we were directed straight to a table and were informed it is Tuesday so we are not busy!! Then the menu is quite different but agreeable although more expensive. I had the squid starter it was oily but ok, then the pie. Oh dear the pie was served in its own small pan the edge crust was hard inedible and comprised over 2" of a 6" pie, the amount of filling (ox cheek) was very inadequate especially for the price. Two thin pieces of broccoli sprout were the veg, What? Chips were fine served separately. My fellows had the veggie option cauliflower steak which was fine although accompanying items were thin. Another had lamb chop, this chop was not large and a third was bone again for the price inadequate. Veg thin. Beers and wine were average in price and as expected but the wine we ordered a bottle was just dumped not opened in our presence and not sampled.

Very welcoming at first, however after the first drink we felt extremely rushed to order our meals and rushed through our courses, even after telling the staff that we wanted a few drinks and a wait before we ate. We had barely vegan to eat our starters and the staff were already looking to clear them away. There was then a matter of a minute before our mains were brought out.

A girly chatting evening out - meals arrived promptly, my mussels were the best & biggest I have ever had, couldnt fault anything. My friends steak & prawns looked good. We just about had room for the chocolate brownie, which was lovely.

Loving the new reverbed decor and folding doors to the patio. Lunch was lovely we had roast pork, bit of a wait but I don't mind that, they seemed a little understaffed. But no complaints from me.

Live locally so thought we would give it a go had a lot of mixed reports about the place since the refurbishment. Lots of staff to assist but slow with drinks, we ordered a mixtures of dishes the starters were lovely however the main courses need work. I’ve never had so terrible fish and chips before, the fish was more batter than fish and dripping with fat when you got to the fish it was also greasy and I can’t say what it tasted like but wasn’t fish. The fish was left, I ate the handful of chips it came with. Decided we had had enough and we were gone within the hour!!

We have used this pub quite a few times with family in the past. My disappointment was with the fish cakes that didn’t come with chips 12.50 for 2 fishcakes and had to order chips as an extra for 3.75. Prices have gone up considerably, not so much choice as before since the refurbishment. Don’t think we will be returning. Very disappointed, however service by the staff was good, and refurbishment is tastefully done.

My friends and I visited the Lime Kiln after hearing about its new refurbishment and menu updates. The food was absolutely delicious (I had the pie and mash with brocolli which was perfect) and the ales/wines were equally as tasty and refreshing. The staff were very friendly and helpful with suggestions and allowed us to add a few chairs to the table for extra guests. Their was a very positive atmosphere around the place and the refurbished beer garden was perfect for a post-dinner coffee in the setting Somerset sun. I have recommended it to everyone in the local area looking for somewhere nice to eat with a menu fit to cater for everyone

Living in Langport had many benefits , one being having a pub that normally served good food after having visiting on many occasions , but sadly back a while , but i must point out under differend managment we had a bad visit for which i left a review on here and i vowed never to return again , but having new manegment and resently had a major refurb i thought lets give it another go , so my wife and myself did. Sadly again it let us down. The staff were busy and did not seem to bothered that we were ready to order our food and kept us waiting for about 15 mins before asking us if we were ready to order . We then waited a fair while before our food arrived only to find my steak was well over cooked after having asked for rare , it was more like cremated and was only fit for the bottom of my shoe , no body asked if every thing was ok , so i left 80% of my meal . Given the poor food and service we both decided to give the desserts a miss , paid for what we had and left , this time 100% we will not be returning .

Last night my wife and I tried the lime kiln again after a bad experience a couple of years ago. Wow the place has been completely transformed. The staff are friendly and efficient and a great choice of drinks. We were super impressed with the new decor and customer service that complimented the surroundings. I had the beef pie, I was so pleased it was a proper pie not just a pie dish with a pastry top, the meat was soft with really tasty gravy. The wife aka the boss, had the chicken Kiev, it looked super juicy and the aromas of garlic were making me envious of not ordering it myself! Cauliflower cheese was creamy and cheesy with a good hint of mustard. My wife had never had hassle back potatoes before and now she's decided to give them a go at home, so thank you lime kiln I now have that to look forward! Hats off to the chef!

Friday dinner, 4 adults and two kids.My burger wasn't, too bad, but £24 for a dry over cooked sirloin was excessive, and it was cow not steak! The short rib should have fallen off the bone not sawn off with a steak knife! At over £17 for the short rib it was shocking. Usually this venue is not too bad, but the food can be a bit hit and miss. Service is good though. Chef needs replacing or retraining.

Food overcooked, chicken Kiev very dry, cauliflower cheese in separate dish also dried up, Barnsley chop so thin and hard. Having waited to have order taken we had to remind the staff we were there, they did apologise that we had been overlooked, the staff were very pleasant and the newly refurbished surroundings good, but the food was poor, we have been to this pub on a few occasions and have been pleased but I'm afraid we will not return, certainly not value for money its not cheap.

A great place to stop for coffee, lunch, or tea which rightly seems very popular with the locals. We enjoyed lots of tea and cake after a walk up Herne Hill (recommended) and my OH particularly enjoyed a Manhattan cake which was all chocolate mousse and orange. Great, friendly service as well.

Fantastic night for dinner, we always struggle taking our child out for dinner but we felt such at ease. We were greeted with friendliness, served fast for our drinks and told to choose a table! Food was delivered fast, hot and delicious! Lots of parking space, my son was given colours and colouring paper which kept him happy. We booked in for the Christmas breakfast with Santa and can’t wait 😍

Had been looking forward to visiting here for a while but was left disappointed. Unfortunately they dont seem to be well adverse with alligies. After informing them of an alligie within our party it's seemed that panic struck and we were told they couldn't guarantee that the food was suitable as the kitchen had various things made in it. We left hungry and disappointed

My wife and I stayed for 2 night, expecting evening meals and breakfast as we were visiting Wells and Bath and Yeovil . I think it was a lovely pub at one time but not now. It did no food closed most nights , we visited other pubs for our meals very disappointing stay and would not recommend anyone to stay I think it will possibly close down very shortly.
