Can't fault this restaurant I had advocado and Bean Salad with Houloumi fries. Husband bacon sandwich followed by meringue with mixed fruit compote and cream. Excellent quality served quickly and cheerfully. The staff worked as the best team I have ever seen no one seemed to be in charge yet everything was done seamlessly. We really enjoyed the experience. The gardens were lovely too

We arrived around 12noon there was a queue but only had to wait for 10 mins, nice to be able to sit outside. Staff are friendly and helpful which is lovely to see when they were so busy. Our drinks arrived quickly but the food took a while but that wasn't an issue for us. My York ham, brie and mango mayo was delicious, I asked for it on brown bloomer instead of white and that was no problem. Great place to stop and admire the gardens.

We visited this cafe for a coffee and snack, whilst visiting the Burnby Hall Gardens. Service was a little slow, but staff and coffee etc were excellent in all respects. The other food that we saw on offer looked excellent. It was particularly pleasing to see a team of young staff working so well together and offering great friendly service. Our cafe experience contributed positively to our overall time in the gardens and museum.

We are members of Burnby Hall Gardens which is a joy in itself so The Lily Pad cafe is a must - the food / drinks and service is truly wonderful - everything freshly made and excellent quality. The staff are absolutely delightful where nothing is to much trouble and always served with a smile even when busy as it often is at the weekends. Please don’t be put off by that as people are soon seated and orders taken. Everything is spotless and safe as well . Visit there and you certainly won’t regret it but come away with a full tummy and a smile on your face!

We had a relaxing autumn walk around Burnby Hall Gardens this week. It was our first time visiting here and we picked a quiet day. We booked a time slot online before travelling and then paid on arrival. There was space in the on-site car park and we had lunch in the Lilypad café before starting our walk. The café was reassuringly well organised to comply with COVID-19 measures. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The tuna melt panini was tasty and filling, washed down with a pot of earl grey tea. We took home some large scones with cream to enjoy later and these were very good. The gardens and ponds are a great way to walk off your lunch, with great autumn colours at the minute.

We had taken a picnic with us to Burnby Hall Gardens as were not sure if the cafe was open or not post lockdown. However it is open for take-away drinks, picnics, snacks and ice-creams. So on this occasion we opted for hot drinks only, served in lidded cups and on a handy cardboard tray. They were perfect to accompany our lunch sitting on a conveniently placed bench in the gardens, admiring the incredible view.

Our second lock-down visit started at lunchtime so we had take-away picnics. One had to be gluten-free which they were able to adjust for, and one fathers-day week special (no proof of fatherhood required) including a local beer. It would be difficult to find anything to praise about our visit, which is sad as the setting is idyllic and the place looks full of promise. I ordered a ploughman’s only to be served a ploughman’s roll. The cheese was cheese squares and tasteless and the salad was just lettuce leaves. The bacon for the bacon sandwich and the mushrooms on toast was absolutely cremated. The coffee was tasteless and served on a selection of old crockery none of which matched. We had to ask for the table, which was covered in some plastic covering, to be wiped down and we had to wipe our own cutlery which was stained. It was certainly overpriced for what we got, however, had the food been of good quality and not the processed food we received, the price would have been reasonable. At no time were we approached to ask if we had enjoyed it or if it was “satisfactory” overall a very disappointing experience.

We had a light lunch here, and ordered ham sandwiches. The worst sandwiches in my life! The ham was so fatty, in fact one slice was almost pure fat! The fruity relish made me feel sick after two bites and the lettuce was limp to the point of being off. I complained to the young man serving who just laughed. I asked him why he was laughing to which he said its just a ham sandwich! and he laughed again. Really bad service. He gave me a refund though and came back later to say sorry. But we wont eat here again. The cakes are really dry also. The cafe is a separate company to Burnby Hall Gardens itself, the latter I have no complaints of they are wonderful, nice staff also. We were visiting Burnby Hall Gardens with a group from our Church. It was a beautiful day and most of us sat outside for a light lunch. There was a short queue to order, but our food was served quite quickly. My husband had the ploughman's board and I had the prawn and avocado board, both served with nice fresh salad. We were also tempted to have cake - yummy! We did not buy drinks, but had water from the jug in the cafe area. All in all, we were well pleased with the location, the food and the pleasant staff. My only drawback is that you have to go to the gardens and pay to get in. We do not live in Pocklington, but would visit the cafe more frequently if not having to pay the admission charge. For such a wonderful setting this cafe let's it down. I had difficulty finding a clean / empty table - I understand if an establishment is busy but there were very few people dotted around who were surrounded by dirty uncleared tables with plastic cups, used paper napkins and menus on the floor. The staff seemed young and unconcerned and rather than clear tables they were stood behind the counter texting on their mobile. The cafe had run out of my choice of drink so I opted for a tea - the cup was dirty, my tray was pushed towards me before I had chance to pick it up in order to place another tray down for another order. I found their manner rude and unwelcoming when trying to read the menu board behind the counter. I ended up sharing my found seating with another couple who couldn't find a cleared clean table either

Excellent all round. I was doubtful I would be able to eat here. The Burnby Hall website, where the cafe is situated, and where we were visiting, did not mention GF food being an option on the menu. Pleasantly surprised to have efficient, knowledgeable staff re this condition, and the owner/manager came out herself to let me know that most of the items they offer are, in fact, GF - and they have GF bread too. Wonderful! I had the ham and cheese platter, loads of salad, fabulous coleslaw, which was promptly served, despite them being busy. Eaten outside on the patio, on a glorious, sunny day - what could be better! Highly recommended for Coeliacs. A suggestion to the manager - get some info on the website re GF food being available - it will come up in search engines - us Coeliacs search high and low for places to eat!

Superb little place, I've visited it when it's been packed out with queues through the door, and on quieter days. Food has been perfect on both occasions- homemade, well presented, good on price and tasted delicious! On the busiest day they were plenty of people in the queue huffing and puffing about having to wait in a queue - something I just don't understand about people?you can see the staff were working their socks off, were pleasant, helpful rushed off their feet and still managed to smile- the system of a member of staff for each job actually helped the queue move quicker as one member of staff taking the drinks order before it was your turn at the till so when you did reach the till your drinks were ready to take away and you only had to order your food (which is brought to your table) and pay. On the quiet day I queued for a couple of minutes and the food was with me within a few minutes on the crazy busy day I queued for 20 minutes but the food (for 6 of us) arrived 10 minutes later - a pat on the back guys - well done!!!

Good selection of food, made to order - no prepacked junk, also has barbecue option for special events days, eg on Sunday's Band Days. Many of staff are quite young but are pleasant and are learning quickly. The introduction of division of labour helps keep queue moving.Just a shame that some customers seem unable to grasp the request to note table reference actually applies to them. Nicely redesigned cafe, in keeping with the Burnby lily theme. A pleasurable way to end (or start) your exploration of the Gardens.
