This is the first time I’ve been to this chippy as I’m from Warrington. I came to Widnes on a shopping trip with my wife, I couldn’t resist the smell of fish and chips, I bought a 3 fish bites and a portion of chips between us. It was to my surprise the largest fish bites I’ve ever had. They were absolutely gorgeous, the best tasting fish I’ve had in many years, large, white, flaky and just the right amount of lovely tasting batter. Staff were friendly and polite and the price was reasonable. I will make a point of becoming a regular customer . Thank you.

Called in during the week. Good service and nice fish and chips. Was a good sized portion served with peas and a slice of bread and butter and a pot of tea. Great value. Would recommend.

From what I was told I think a brother and sister took over their late Grandparents business. Sweet deal at the moment 2 fish strips pretty big peas,gravy or curry sauce £4.80 I think no idea how they make a profit even great meal great staff worth a visit.

Wowwww I had fish chips and peas two bread and a pot of tea it was the biggest fish I ever seen the chips was red hot it was just perfect just the job on a wet and windy day. The staff was lovely and friendly the place was spotlessly clean and it all came to £10.45 will definitely be going back there soon.

Well, what a disappointment. Called in today for lunch, not visited since last year, and the first thing we noticed was only a couple of tables occupied where we sometimes had to wait for a table before. We soon realised why. The chop suey roll I ordered came within seconds and the first mouthful made me want to spit it out. It was claggy and tasted awful. The waitress kindly changed it for a very small fish strip and some scabby dry chips. My friend had fish and peas, a narrow piece of fish, nothing like she’d had in the past which was over cooked and rather dry in the middle. When we came to,pay I thought it seemed expensive and asked for a breakdown of the bill to find out that the small portion of chips cost £2.40 ! I commented that I didn’t want shares in the business ! The chippy a few doors away charge £1 for a cone of chips ! Well, sorry folks but you won’t see us again and judging how unpopular this restaurant appeared you won’t be around for long.

We used to visit this establishment quite regularly when it was under the previous ownership. But after our last visit under the current management,we won't be returning in a hurry. Food quality and service has definitely taken a slide. And the prices have gone up! Fish soggy and greasy. Chips tasteless and full of hard crunchy bits! Bread and butter dry and definitely not butter! Well overpriced! Won't be returning in a hurry!

My wife and I were fairly regular patrons of this fish & chip restaurant, which has a separate takeaway entrance. We'd occasionally have other family members with us and found the Serbice and food among the best of its type locally.However, on our last visit a few weeks ago we were disappointed with both aspects: the staff had changed and the quality of the meal seemed less good too- especially as the price was a little higher than we expected. It was a Friday, usually the restaurant is so popular that obtaining a seat sometimes involved a wait, but we noticed during our visit that several tables were available throughout - it was less busy than normal. Maybe word has got around...Anyway, when in the area we now have our regular Friday fish and chips in Runcorn Old Twon, which has a similar establishment as regards accommodation and decor and is a little less expensive- worth the trip over the Mersey Gateway bridge!

Arrived before lunch rush and paid 8.60 each for fish and Chip lunch which included a slice of bread and cup of tea. Fish arrived swimming in oil on bottom and was somehow dry and over cooked in the middle, the bread was so stale you could see the discolouration around the outer edge not to mention what sort of abomination they used as “spread”The ketchup was so watered down it was barely red, the cup of tea tasted vile and the dispensed Diet Pepsi my friend had barely had any syrup in.For almost £20 a complete rip off and will never use again

We live in Liverpool and had a quick drive to widnes to look around the market and shops.We went into Les's Fish Bar for lunch. It was clean and friendly..Mum and had fish and chips with peas. It was fresh and hot and probably the best fish and chips we had.Coffee and a coke all for less than £20.00.We will defiantly go again sooner rather than later too.

By chip shop standards, The food is second to none. A bit more expensive than other chip shops in widnes, and if you sit in the attached cafe, the prices are considerably higher. That said there is often a que for a table here.

Decided to go to Widnes for a change and looking for somewhere to eat we decided to try Les’s Fish Bar - Widnes

We have visited Les fish and chip shop weekly and noticed a few months ago that the chips are different. No longer are they the thick crispy chips but now long, greasey, thin and slimy. The only reason I can put the change to is cost cutting. Something else has changed too because the last 3 times I've eaten there I've had to rush home with stomach cramps (if you get my meaning) and so has my family member both diving for the nearest toilet. Maybe it's the oil they are now using or maybe the chips are precooked. As we all have different meals at Les the only constant are the chips, and the oil that they use. Whatever it is I think we are going to avoid for a while to see if it changes. No one wants to be dashing home after eating out somewhere. I'd love to hear your thoughts Les, or Mrs Les, but again this review will probably be ignored.

Have visited regularly for lunch over the years, and yesterday's Fish and Chip lunch didn't disappoint! Beautifully cooked fish, tasty chips and peas served with a round of bread and butter topped off with a cup of tea for approx £7...excellent value and good service.

Arrived to be met by a pleasant person how took me order for a fish and chips dinner with tea and bread when it arrived a few minutes later it looked fantastic and the quality was great

Whilst shopping today at the market with my nan we popped in for a quick lunch. The food was nice enough, but I would encourage anyone who eats there to ask for an itemised bill before they pay and to check their change as my 84 year old nan was left £10 out of pocket and the staff weren't too friendly about it. Will not be eating there again!

It's pretty small but they work it well. It's always fast, very filling and very tasty. It's not fine food but it's homely and pretty good for the price. I've never had a problem and I've going for years.

I've had the cod from here twice and it was excellent, cooked to order with a light batter. The colour of the peas put me off a bit as there's far too much colouring for my taste but they tasted fine. I've also had a very nice steak dinner from here.

Didn't feel welcome as was on my own taking up a table which staff made quite obvious they would rather be full, left half my lunch and left, thought it was expensive compared to one few doors down, quality wasn't the best and chips sadly not for me, I will not return.

Les's chip bar is a chip shop with a cafe attached. It is a basic working mans cafe with no airs and graces but the quality and freshness of the food is second to none. I challenge anyone to find better!!!

Eat in at les's service is ok but staff could be a bit more happier. Sometimes you are asked to sit with other people that you don't know as the restaurant is small and at peak times it is exceptionally busy. Service is fast but feel sometimes under pressure to leave quicker because of the queues of people waiting for a table. Food is really great and I will continue to go in there but it does look like it is sliding slightly at the moment.

Went with the wife to be and had a cracking meal. I had the chicken with chips and gravy in the cafe part. Staff very attentive and friendly. Food for a chippy was very high standard. Yes it's a bit more expensive but well well worth it

Really quick service. Had a fish dinner, not greasy one bit. Sat in and it got jam packed in no time. Oddly, it was my first visit to the chippy, will be going there more often, well done gang, keep up te good work! Oooo and they do proper soak peas, yay!

Just had a takeaway from here and everything was poor chips sloppy meat and potato pie dry as could be fritter disgusting and spicy curry which was just fruity curry with chilli powder sprinkled over the top never get anything from here again.

Sadly she is no longer with us.The fish is second to none but the chips are no where near where they used to be.It peeves me to see bread and butter on a menu and you get cheap bread and woeful margarine.Pricewise a little over £7 for a fish dinner is vfm.Some of the staff could be a bit friendlier.

asked for scampi and chips, there priced up seperate on the menu so theres no price as a meal, however they serve them together in a tray so you get less chips and they really are tight with there portions. Staff are still miserable and seem to prefer older people. I last came here 4 years ago and nothing has changed, oh well i tried but next time i think ill swerve this one.

We have visited this fish and chip shop many time's, we tend to go for the fish & chip's bread and butter with a tea or coffee, they call it the fish dinner £7.25 each but well worth it. The staff are very friendly. It's always busy which is a good sign,sometimes you have to wait for a table, definitely worth the wait. Highly recommended.

Placed our order after being spoken like rubbish. Half of the items we asked for we're not cooked, we then proceeded into the Cafe part to be told that we could not sit down to eat our food. The place looked like a care home turned into a chippy. Wouldnt recommend.

Popped in for lunch today. The place was busy, which is always a good sign. The service was prompt and the food good and hot. The price wasn't cheap but I would go again. It you are on an economy drive the chippy a few doors away is cheaper but only does take aways - do you really want to sit on a bench in a busy street eating you luch with a plastic fork?

Absolutely gorgeous fresh Cod or Haddock, with chips, peas, and a round of bread & butter, plus a hot drink. Their menu calls it a Fish Dinner. There are other menu options! Always busy, sometimes you might have to wait for a table as it's usually busy. Great - friendly staff. The best!

We used to eat here all the time how ever they favour old people who drink tea rather than eating guests. On multiple occasions we were asked to move to allow older people to use the restaurant before us which is wrong as we were paying guests as well. The food is clean and basic but service how ever is not with a smile, unfortunately not much better to sit and eat! just go elsewere.

Best fish and chip sit down restaurant. I always love going to Les's because I always enjoy the food. It is a bit dearer that the norm but it is worth it. Lovely and clean and lovely service by the really nice Chinese lady. I recommend it.

I have visited this local chippy quite a few times over the years and feel it has gone steadily down hill which is a shame. The town is really taking off with all the new shops, but I feel that Les's is being left behind or perhaps he has made his money and just doesn't care. I agree with the comment over the chips being placed around the fish in the tray when you order a take away, this happened to me also and considering the price I thought it was a disgraceful trick. I now ask for my fish to be wrapped separately, but I really shouldn't have to do this just to make sure I get a descent portion of chips. Also I have found the tea and coffee very overpriced for a extremely small cup especially the coffee which is nothing more than a few mouthfuls once you get through the froth. I now find myself going there less and less after all there are a lot of competitors out there who provide very descent food for less. I do hope the owners read these comments and make some changes before it's too late.

I'm at a bit of a loss as to why this place is rated so low, the fish and chips in this place are delicious, yet rather than concentrate on that people choose to pick fault with "impatient customers" and "miserable staff". I'd rather have quality fish & chips than respectful diners and fake smiles from staff.Visit this place, you won't be disappointed.

Me and my mother visited the fish and chip restaurant and were advised by a man waiting in line that it was "worth the wait". There were around 20 small tables inside , fairly clean with the traditional saucesand condiments on the table and a very British type menu. The pictures on the wall of colorful sea life were very nice and cheery while we waited for our meal. Me and my mother ordered 2 fish and chip meals with bread and tea. The meal was beautiful and very well cooked fish However our experience was somewhat tainted by two impatient women customers who were allowed in and proceeded to rush us from our seats before we had time to put our coats on. I also noticed two elderly women on the large side who were having trouble getting out from the tightly pushed together tables. The bill came to 17 pounds. So not exactly cheap for a chippy dinner.I feel the waitresses should allocate seats as they become available and space the seating out more. But i suppose Les wants as much custom as he can.

Generally nice and clean, serving nice fish. Most chippies over-face you with the size of their portions but this one is different. If you want fish and chips ask for your portions separate because if you don't the get the tray and put the fish in first and then put a very small amount of chips around. I've never seen this done in any other chippy but they do it every time so they know what they are doing and it just makes you feel that they are trying to short serve you. Sorry but just being truthfull.

We occasionally call in when shopping in Widnes. Always busy at weekends but the place is nothing special really. The décor is very dated and a bit like a school canteen. Average to small size portions and not cheap either! The man who fries the fish never smiles also which only adds to the rather sombre atmosphere!They are obviously making pots of money here but it could be so much nicer and so much more customer focused with just a little effort.

A consistently good cafe which offers excellent quality of food and cleanliness. Service was quick and efficient despite nearly all the tables being occupied. Yes, it costs slightly more than the competition but it is good value.

The staff are soooo miserable. Chips are anaemic, would well rather go grahams next door just for a smile. Spose it is the only chippy you can sit down if you visit the lovely poundlands and charity shops of windes

It is just an average place no frills and no quirks. Go to Grahams next door and you get a better experience stood outside eating your food than you do sitting down inside Les's

Visited today as my husband loves the fish strips. One of the waitresses ignored the lady at the table next to us, when I spoke up for her stating that she had sat there for ages and not had her table cleaned the response was "we'll clear it when we have time" the said lady and her children left and I was nearly behind her, only the fact that my husband is ill with cancer and loves the fish strips kept me in my seat.The childrens portions are small and my eldest child had to wait for a while to get hers, we were halfway through ours.The jacket potato was nice but a little soggy in the middle and the cheese and onion poor, small amount of cheese and the onion had no flavour to it. The salad was nice and crispy and fresh.I noticed that the table that wasnt cleared had a lot of leftover food and whilst there a customer returned 2 meals as they were of poor standard! The staff talked about me openly for daring to ask for the lady's table to be cleared for her and her children as they were so blatantly ignoring her, and she obviously knew I was going to complain as she told her colleague "he wont sack me" making her a liability as customer service is the forefront of any business especially in todays poorer society when eating out is a treat rather than a daily occurence!I did speak to the manager about it before I left but felt that it went in one ear and out the other, I definitely will not be returning there, Grahams a few doors down are friendly and cheerful.It states award winning, however, they have not had an award since 2003 I can see why.

Very popular (so you may have to wait for a table), but a nice place to sit down for a fish dinner. The food is always freshly prepared, the portions large and reasonably priced as well.

To start with all the staff (owvers included) look so very miserable and dont give you a warm welcome, as the chippy further up does.I personally find it expensive and the chips on a few occasions have to many black bits and are not cooked properly, they seem more interested in money than people.

Not what it used to be. Dont like the miserable staff especially the dark haired one that calls everybody "Darling". The food is good though but the atmosphere isnt up to much and theres a policy of seating other people at your table which i dont like either. This is my second review and the first one was glowing. Hopefully they can get their act together and sort it out soon.

The restaurant is always busy and you often see people forming a queue at the door! The food is always served piping hot and the only thing that I can say I am not impressed with is the peas are sometimes like bullets! That said, we love the fish strips that they do - delish!!

Had great fish and chips on my visit to widnes centre but the barm was rubbish - the chip barm for my girlfriend went in the bin.So go ahead and buy great fish but SAVE your money and do not buy barms.
