We go to the Lemon Tree Cafe every time we are in Ely. The coffee is great and so is the food. The staff are very friendly and have recently introduced an incentive to bring your own cup so as not to use disposable ones. It is a wonderful place to sit and watch the market and it is always busy.

Stopped here for a coffee and cake break recently. We were lucky to have a sunny day so we could sit outside. There are a couple of tables in front and more seating in a small gazebo across the footpath. There is a vast array of paninis, sausage rolls, cakes and goodies to choose from plus the usual assortment of foodie items that you find in a deli. We didn't spend much time looking around to be honest as we were hungry and keen to get some cake down our necks. We had crunchie tiffin and lovely moist lemon, almond and pistachio cake and a couple of flat whites. Service was prompt and friendly and the coffee was very good. The cake portions were generous and both were utterly delicious. We were just visiting Ely - I only wish we lived nearby so I could try everything on the menu.

We have been going to the Lemon Tree for a few years and always enjoy our lunch and it was good value , however after our visit on Saturday we were very disappointed, we ordered a panni and when it arrived it was a bake at home very cheep white baguette, slightly toasted. We can appreciate that the cost of ingredients have gone up but this was not as advertised and overpriced. Sad to say we won’t be going back as there are muck better value eateries in Ely .

Such a shame! This is a beautiful little deli on the market square in Ely and my partner and I both have family in Ely so we come to visit the city fairly often but the service is such a let down to this establishment! The sandwiches are lovely but not worth it for the unhappy staff. I had ordered a takeaway sandwich and coffee and only had a dirty look from the member of staff but I thought perhaps they were just having an “off” day so upon receiving my order I cheerily thanked her and wished her a good day to which it was ignored. Not a terrible error but did leave me feeling a little down hearted. However when my partner (who is medically exempt from wearing a mask) on a separate occasion went in to order a couple of coffees he was quite aggressively told to wear a mask and when we explained that he was exempt, he was simply sneered at. Now I truly understand the importance of enforcing health and safety in the climate of COVID 19 however I would expect a professional environment to consider and understand that people do have hidden disabilities which they may not always feel comfortable explaining to strangers - nor do they have to! This felt very insensitive and my partner left feeling extremely embarrassed and unwelcome to the shop. I truly urge the members of staff to be a little more considerate in the future to other customers but sadly we will not be returning.

Visited this little cafe on our day out in Ely I was trying to look for a place that were doing smoothies and found this one! There was so many choices of smoothies to have and even have vegan friendly. But there is a couple of things I would say that is for just a smoothie I had to wait quite awhile for it even though they said it would only take a couple of minutes was so much longer and I didn't know where to stand outside for it as it's a really small cafe with not so much space for waiting outside for takeaways I even got told to stand away from the cafe and instead in people's way where people were walking this was from the assistant rudley may I point out which I felt like I was always in people's way for people walking and people sitting there should be a little spot for people to wait that's why I've marked the stars down abit. The smoothie itself was very nice though I had a banana and peanut butter flavour one but keep in mind if you order this one the nuts get stuck in the straw so there is no point in having that as the straws are paper and very small I had to take the top off and straw out to drink it properly (llittle tip make sure you stir the smoothies with straw to make it thicker) luckily we went to sit on the greenery and drank it otherwise wouldn't of been ideal walking around with it another reason why I've put stars down.

Have been here many times before to buy cookies, brownies and cheese. This time we decided to have a coffee and sandwich and show the place to our visiting friends. Usually lovely service however once I paid for my goods and waited for my food, the attitude changed completely. Made us feel like lesser people, like we didn’t belong and made to leave the outside tables which were empty. Not impressed and actually we won’t be going back. Extremely rude, and out of order. We were not asked to wait by the tree. We were asked to wait outside, socially distanced. We did not take up two tables as we had moved the chairs. You did not ask if we had used the track and trace, which is on all your tables.I apologise that two people were eating whilst we were waiting for our orders. They could have waited on the other side of the barrier, but they also didn’t sit on the tables. As mentioned you treated us disgustingly, and there was plenty of tables. We apologised, as we were unaware that we couldn’t sit whilst waiting. But the attitude was unacceptable. I don’t want excuses, because there is none. Treat people with respect.

Don’t be fooled by the extensive menu shown outside. At about 12.30pm I joined the queue, waited for about 15mins and took my turn. A hungry family waited outside. No croissants left and no patience while I decided what alternative to order. Then no focaccia sandwiches left either and more impatience when I looked uncertain and disappointed. Why list a long menu and not bother to indicate that items are no longer available then be impatient, rude and uninterested when customers are faced with the need to decide on completely different selections for children and adults outside. The food is generally good here but it’s expensive and the service is unfriendly. You can overcome these negatives by visiting Marmalade and Jam on the High Street instead.

I wasn't going to write a review as i dont like to say anything nasty about people but Ive been a bit upset about my experience since sunday so decided to say how i felt. I had been walking around the market and walked into the cafe to order some drinks and a sandwich...I checked no other customers where in the shop before entering as they run a one in one out service since covid and its a small space. I totally forgot to put my mask on, I dont know why as i'm normally pretty good. It wasn't done on purpose it was a pure mistake, the lady in there was very rude to me and made me feel very upset, I applogised and put my mask on immediately and then she rudely asked me to leave the shop so that she could walk past me with a tray of drinks. I was a bit gobsmacked as there was at least 4 to 5 feet between us. I then waited outside the shop and watched her walk over to a very small table where no one had masks on and she stood talking to them at no further than a foot from there faces...totally contradicting the concern and how ob-visually frightened she was at walking past me. I understand its very hard times for everyone but the lady was very rude and could of easily just said ...Oh have you forgotten your mask in a polite way...its hard for everyone but if your that scared maybe you shouldn't be open. I myself have lost all my work this year and struggle to leave the house as i feel sad about the whole situation and the visit i had as made me feel even worse about going out. The food was very nice though but sadly i will not be going back.

It’s a small but quaint café with a selection of homemade delicacies and savoury dishes.I opted for a black coffee with warmed croissant and homemade jam to begin with. In my job role we support adults to access the community. We had a group of people wishing to have a hot drink in the afternoon. There was a lot of empty seating outside and empty tables. So we encouraged our people to take a seat, whilst we got them a cup of tea. All sounds idyllic, as this is what people enjoy doing, sitting in the sun, enjoying a cup of tea. As these people needed carers with them to assist with wheelchairs, etc, there were three staff. The owner of the cafe asked us to hurry with our drinks as we were taking valuable seats. He did not like the fact that the staff, were sitting but not drinking or eating anything. I found this rather bad behaviour as the people that were in our group who were drinking and generally enjoying themselves, felt embarrassed. I wish to point out that with some groups of people, the staff do not always to eat or drink are are there to support and encourage service users to access and enjoy the service. We will not be using this establishment again under any circumstance.

On our way to the Ely cathedral we decided to have lunch at The Lemon Tree Deli, a very casual Café . On this quiet day our plain salad order took 30 minutes to be served. The hummus was tasteless, the hard cider was flat and herbaceous, and the water for the tea was tepid so the tea did not steep properly. The pastries were uninspiring to me, so at the end of the meal I tasted from a small bag a little piece of cake bought earlier on the town market adjacent to the Café. The unpleasant waitress, who had never checked if we were satisfied by our meal, came to me a said: "I am afraid this is not allowed! We are not insured for other merchants' food..." I found the remark unkind. I complied, my wife asked for her dessert to be boxed and we left, very disappointed...

Service was fast and friendly. Food was top quality but it would have been nice to have the option of brown bread with the ploughmans lunch.

Popped in here for lunch and it was a treat. Lovely variety of toasted sandwiches with several bread options including focaccia, which is what we had. You can tell there is real thought that has gone into the combination of ingredients for fillings. Both the Serrano and chicken/avocado ones were delicious. Topped off with lovely homemade blueberry and lemon cake. Probably better value than one or two other places in Ely too!

This tiny cafe offers a nice selections of baked goods, salads and snacks. Outdoor sitting is a lovely option in nice weather. Worth a stop in Ely where the pickings can be slim.

We ordered a tea and a lemonade and started working on our laptops. The owner kept giving us disapproving looks and eventually asked us pointedly if “we would be much longer” as he had a group of four waiting. He also said he didn’t know what I meant when I pointed out it was poor service on his side. Very strange.

We struggled to find somewhere after 5pm for tea and a snack. We came across the lemon tree and so glad we did. Great homemade food served by the lovely couple that own it. A visit here is a must if you are in Eley. Wish we had things like this where we live. We even took extra cake away with us!!

Lovely little cafe which seems to be privately run. Exceptionally courteous staff who served delicious Earl Grey Tea, warm scones, clotted cream and strawberry jam. We will return. Far better and more personal service than some globalised cafe's, coffee bars and restaurants. We will return - thank you!

The owners Debbie and Adrian are lovely . Nothing is too much trouble. We regularly go in for freshly made sandwiches and my best pal is addicted to the caramel slice.

Not many coffee shops were open in Ely on New Years Day. However, we were lucky enough to grab one of the three indoor tables in this tiny establishment. It was tucked away around the back where little attempt had been made to make customers feel welcome, other than the color gas fire. But, it was warm and dry if not particularly cheerful.

Food was very nice, my wife enjoyed her soup and bread and my toasted panini was also good, prices very reasonable. However, when I paid using a £20 note the serving lady first put the note in the till then gave me change for a £10 note. Denied being given a twenty so male member of staff had to reconcile the till contents - which took ages - to eventually find it was £7 over. My £10 was returned somewhat grudgingly without any apology other than a muttered 'sorry'. Firstly, this whole hassle could easily have been avoided had the server kept the note on top of the till drawer before handing over the change, this is why most tills have a clip above the drawer. Training clearly needed. Secondly, if such an incident does happen and the customer is correct it would be usual to give a genuine and fairly profuse apology. All businesses make mistakes, it's how they deal with them that matters, and this completely avoidable incident was dealt with very poorly. Our day was soured by this experience and we will not be returning.

There are a few tables in the deli. It is a bit cramped but this is made up for by the food & staff. Good selection of sandwiches & cakes.

This was a happy place which we stumbled on whilst waiting for evensong in the Cathedral. As well as having unusual sauces and pickles for sale, the Cafe served high quality home made cakes, hot chocolate etc., it was the staff that helped us here that made this place special, providing brochures and recommendations for our Ely visit.

As a family we have always been great admirers of the Lemon Tree. The food, service, hospitality have always been first class. However, what prompted me to write a review was the occasion I needed an outside caterer.

Amazing little deli stocking some really unique products that would be hard to find without a stressful trip to Cambridge, or even further. The homemade products are to die for, especially an amazing range of cakes and the newly introduced sausage rolls. The table menu offers a really varied choice of freshly made food with great flavour combinations in the range of hot or cold deli sandwiches. The owners are lovely and are happy for you to ask questions when needed with a good knowledge of their products. It's a real gem in the centre of Ely and nice to find somewhere unique that you want to go back to again and again.

Stayed here with my family a week ago to have a quick bite and must say we were terribly disappointed with the service. The ladies in the cafe were nice and it is a cosy spot overall but the owner seemed to be very unprofessional and more interested in serving a bigger table. Wouldn't recommend it.

Very authentic food with a pleasant atmosphere. Curry’s have loads of flavour and the pricing is very reasonable considering the current situation. Definitely recommend this for the surround area.

Terrible service. Food came late, kids meals were only just warm, so I had to microwave them! Chicken shish was stone cold as was the chicken wrap. Called to try and sort it out, was offered 20% off my next meal. When I asked if I could have 20% back now in stead as this doesn't help me feed my family tonight, I was told the manager was too busy to deal with it right now and that I needed to call back in half an hour.
