Chinese restaurant serving Beijing (Peking), Szechuan, and Cantonese cuisine. Will be celebrating 40 years this September (2024). Inconspicuously located in Beaconsfield old town. Hasn’t got the usual large, flashy sign outside. In fact it would be easy to miss! Similarly inside, it is not littered with cheap Chinese decorations. I’d go as far as saying it looks very high class. The front of house staff are very attentive, regularly (but not annoyingly often) coming to check if everything is ok or if you need any more food or drinks. We went there for the Sunday buffet on the August bank holiday weekend. Got there about 1pm. It wasn’t busy at all, but as we were eating a number of people turned up. Talking to the waitress, we were told that Sundays, and the whole weekend in general, is usually very busy. So booking a table in advance is recommended. If you do it through the website you’ll be directed to a third party site. This site ‘warns’ you that that the Sunday buffet ends at 1.30pm. Ignore that! It’s not true. The buffet is served all day Sunday. How it works, is that you’re offered a mixed platter of Peking ribs, spring rolls, deep fried vegetables, crispy seaweed, chicken satay skewers, and prawn toast according to the number of people at the table. Then you get a “tick list” (see photo) where you mark which dishes you’d like to order. So it’s a kind of “a la carte buffet”. Once you’ve finished what you ordered, you can order more, including topping up your starter mixed platter. There’s no limit how much you can order- as long as you eat it all! We chose Chicken with ginger and spring onion, Crispy chilli beef, Szechuan beef, and Twice cooked pork. What’s our thoughts? Definitely much better than your usual Chinese fast food from ‘down the road’. Yet, perhaps not as good as I had expected. From the mixed platter the giant spring rolls, seaweed, deep fried vegetables ,and the peking ribs were the best. The prawn toast didn’t really taste of prawns, the satay sauce didn’t even have a hint of peanut flavour. From main courses: the Chicken with ginger and spring onion tasted of ordinary chicken soup. The Crispy chilli beef was crispy and tasty but I couldn’t tell if there actually was any beef! There was no “chewiness” in the crispy bites. The Szechuan beef was tender and flavoursome, not overly spicy. I couldn’t see any Szechuan peppers… The Twice cooked pork was also tender and tasty. Dessert is also included - deep fried apple and banana with caramel drizzle and ice cream. Pretty bland, to be honest. Disappointing, as I was looking forward to it. Overall, all the dishes had flavour but there was just that “little something” missing to make it stand out. Also, typical of many buffet meals, it left us both rather thirsty. I think the idea is to make the dishes a bit saltier (or use MSG?) to make you order more drinks and eat less food = more pofit.

Absolutely terrible. Have just left. We were “dumped” in a corner and forgotten about. We asked to order from the buffet. Before even being given a menu we were presented with mixed hors d'oeuvres. When that was finished we were asked what we wanted for the main a simple response - “a menu please”. Every other table was given prawn crackers. We weren’t. It may sound petty but it’s the basics that went wrong. Have walked 2 minutes up the road to Pizza Express and currently receiving a far superior service. Shocking. Shocking. Shocking. AVOID AT ALL COST!

Avoid. Service is awful they are short staffed. Food is terrible, and expensive. We ordered a la carte hoping it would be better than the “All you can eat”. We were mistaken and stung with poor food and very expensive. All just deep fried rubbish. The wontons were 95 percent batter and a pea sized dollop of prawn. They also charge for chilli oil and insist on a 12.5% service which is non existent. Avoid.

Brought the family here for Mother's Day and I must say, from start to finish, it was brilliant. The staff are warm and friendly and really look after you. The food is hot and delicious and plenty of it. We had the Sunday Buffet which is £24pp and it was well worth it. Will definitely be back soon. Thank you, Leigh House 😊 It was almost 5 stars but had to take one away as there were no baby changing facilities and my 7 month old Grandaughter came with us. Made it tricky.

Our first visit, we selected the Sunday buffet all you wish to eat. It started with a plate of mixed starters, the chicken on sticks was best ever, not in the slightest dry with amazing batter. Sesame prawn on toast passed the thickness test, seaweed wasn't greasy, ribs & spring roll nice too. It was refreshing to see on the plate something I had not had before, vegetables in a tempura style batter with chilli and garlic, very tasty and probably my favourite of all on the plate. We had four main dishes and rice. Each one for me had that special wow factor, the sauces were fabulous. Desert I wasn't expecting and up to the same standards. Our waitress did not speak excellent English but she had back up and we were left feeling very well informed and looked after. The only down note was that the information given in the menu could have been more comprehensive. Definitely planning another visit.

We went there on Sunday. You need to book beforehand. The buffet was delicious and they actually bring it to you. There is no buffet to go to and help yourself. You can get a menu to select the dishes from and you can ask for a top up at anytime. There is a vegetarian menu. Be mindful of not wasting food, as you will be charged £3.50 for any unfinished dish. They were very accomadating with my toddler and their booster seat was so comfy!

Excellent food, with loads of veggie options. Being a large party, we were sat at a big round table with a large lazy dusan which made sharing everything so much easier. The staff were attentive and friendly. Surprisingly quiet for a Saturday night, especially as the food was so good. The music was, unexpectedly, 80s/90s. The decor was a mixture. With so small a clientele the atmosphere was subdued. Not bad prices either (4 course meal).

Went to the Sunday Buffet the day before the Bank Holiday with friends, we wanted to relax, eat good food, drink and chat. Unfortunately the food and service was very poor. The waitress messed our order up, we had to keep getting up to pour our own drinks, the restaurant was quiet, only 3 other tables occupied. The food was not up to the usual standards, the sauce in the dishes was gloopy and luke warm, some of the dishes were filled with lots of carrot and not much else. We had a little break, then ordered some more from the check list, it was only 9pm. We were told by the waitress that the kitchen closes at 9.30, it looked like she was hoping we would not order anymore. If we would of known we would be chucked out that early we would of gone elsewhere. We only ordered 2 more dishes. She started to clear the other small bowls away and was not satisfied that we had left some of the food (carrot) in the bowls. The manageress came over, she came across very humpy, moaned that we had left food and that they wanted to close soon. I asked for crispy chilli beef and chow mein, the crispy beef was soft and the chow mein was a bowl of noodles. The manageress reluctantly wanted to recook the chilli beef but by then my appetite had gone. Very disappointing I have to say. We felt pushed out in the end. The bill was £284 between 4 of us, so not a cheap night, I was home by 10pm eating toast because I was so hungry. It ruined our night out with friends we haven't seen in a while. Just disappointed with the whole evening.

STAY AWAY!!. It is very unlike me to leave a review but with the amount of stress Wai put me through. I most certainly don’t want this to happen to any other bride. It took Wai almost 2 months to get us a quote, and every time he said he would call back he never did. Throughout the year, we did everything he required from us. We discussed the menu, did the tasting and he set up a meeting with us at the venue to run through the final details where he did not even show up. Wai said he will go to the venue himself on another day to make up for it and will call at the same time to run through the final details instead but never called. Bear in mind we are now in January and still had not heard from him. Eventually I had to contact him again for an update where Wai told me everything went smooth at the venue and quote, “everything was all set to go.” I mentioned about amending the quote as numbers of guests changed and he said that we will have a final meeting 2 weeks prior to the wedding, and if I had any questions in between to contact him. So at this point you would think you can relax now until then as he assured everything is sorted. WRONG! Given he’s track record I decided to contact Wai earlier to book our final meeting which is where he told me that I was not booked with him and that he had another wedding booked now the day before mine?! He tried to blame me that he had not heard from me for a while so assumed I did not want to use he’s services. (Even though the proof is in our texts him telling me everything was set and we would talk again 2 weeks before the wedding) Makes absolutely no sense! Told him that he needed to refer back to our messages of what HE said. And instead of admitting he’s wrong, he would blame me instead. So after a whole year of planning, Wai had completely wasted our time with less than 1 month away from my wedding! I managed to find another caterer and found out this is not the first time Wai has done this to as my new caterer were having to also cater for another couple that Wai had messed up on. I also found out after through a mutual friend that Wai actually catered for a wedding in the past where mains did not come out till 10pm and again the couple being blamed for things rather taking responsibility. Finding a Chinese caterer for our wedding was difficult but it’s not worth the stress and him potentially not even turn up to your wedding seeing how forgetful he is and then blame you.

We tried the all-you-can-eat Sunday lunch, we thought it might be a giggle. We happened to be there for the Coronation special which meant we didn't have to pay for the duck wraps. I obviously have to say that the portion sizes were good and we were offered more of each course if we wanted it... The quality of the food however was pretty bad. It has definitely slid to the level of grotty local take-away. This Sunday buffet, which is not a buffet but a menu service, is not an advert for the restaurant. Everything was either under or over-cooked. Dry if not in a sauce or soggy if coated. Tastes of char or was super salty or sweet, there was no balance. The selection doesn't include anything nice and fresh and clean, just your usual selection from a cheap and cheerful hangover or drunk take-away order. The quality of the meat was poor, cheap and just the cuts that are pumped full of water to ensure they don't overcook or dry out. Hmmmm.... Lastly, the cost of soft drinks was verging on the criminal. I questioned the fact that 4 small diet cokes cost just under £16 and was told that was a normal local price, to which I laughed. A ridiculous price and almost as much as one person's bottomless food(!). The service is the best bit of the restaurant, we had great attention and ended up paying the mandatory service charge and not questioning it as everything else was daylight robbery... All in all, hugely disappointing, a slide from the former quality and ridiculous prices for such poor quality food and basic soft drinks.

Visited for Sunday lunch buffet. The food was ok but did not have a Wow factor. We were a table of 6. The restaurant was half full. Starters were brought on a sharing platter and the portion size was good. We were then given a sheet of paper with the main food items listed and a tick box at the side. We chose a main item each and ticked the boxes for rice and noodles. When the food arrived the bowls were very small (less than a single portion in each at most ). This was fine for the mains but not when there was one tiny bowl of rice and noodles to share. We finished and tried to reorder our favourite dishes. As we have similar tastes we chose three mains and the fried rice and put ‘x2’ in the tick box. We received 4 dishes in total. The server could not understand what we were trying to do. We were still hungry as we had not even had the equivalent of a full main course each. The attitude of the manageress and the 30 minute plus wait for each order was off putting. Our table had been ignored for most of the meal. The Manageress gave the impression that she thought that we were over ordering, and was very abrupt and unwelcoming throughout. We gave up, paid and left. We will not be returning.

My family and I often come here and have never had an issue, however last night was something quite different. Food on the whole was very nice, however we ordered the soft shell crab to start which was clearly off and smelled awful. We returned the plate to the manager out of sight of the rest of the restaurant as not to cause a scene as sometimes these things happen, we said we believe it to be off and her response was that “it came in fresh this week, so it can’t be” which may have been true however food can still go bad in that period. The most disappointing thing was her response as we continued to explain to her the situation she just turned around and walked off abruptly and then blatantly ignored us for the rest of the evening. What good management would have done was to approach us and offer a sincere apology at the very least. This didn’t happen which made for a very uncomfortable evening. Other than that the food was very flavourful and tasty. The restaurant was only a quarter full which I found quite surprising as previously mentioned we have had many lovely experiences and always felt very buzzy but recent reviews make me believe it’s not just a one off. I do however want to praise the waitress we had whom was very polite and remained professional throughout. I believe the manageress could learn a lot from her attitude. A real shame however we won’t be going back any time soon

For so many of our guests, the highlight of the wedding was the splendid buffet put on by the Leigh House team. Our guests with dietary requirements (vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free) were particularly impressed with everything on offer, and said that they'd never been to a wedding where the food provided for them felt like it was not just an afterthought. That's all done to the incredible planning and catering skills provided by Wai-Kee and his wider team as every dish was absolutely delicious and the portions sizes were generous and plentiful. Even my once pescetarian husband found the filet steak in black pepper sauce impossible to resist! It was such a blessing to have found this amazing family-run restaurant and catering company in our mission to find the best way showcase the culinary delights of my culture at our wedding. Having the Chinese buffet for our wedding breakfast made our day feel really like it was ours and for that, we'll always be incredibly grateful to Leigh House and everything they've done to help us start our married lives in the best possible way.

I used to rate it a 5-star place, but the past few times we've been, it has felt tired. Food is lovely, but the sharing plater to start was greasy, and the ribs were largely fat. The duck pancakes were gummy and impossible to separate the majority of them. The bathroom had no hand dryer or towels and needed a clean. It feels like it's fallen down in its standards over the past year or so, which is a shame.

Food good but service and manager attitude were shameful and ruined the experience. My brother and I took our mother out for dinner on a Wednesday night. Not the busiest night, the restaurant was about 1/4 full, so there were plenty of tables available. Initially seated next to a window, but our mother found it too cold (-4C outside) there so we asked to move to another identical sized table closer to the fire. Was told by manager (possibly owner?) some officious rubbish about the table being too small for food and therefore it wasn’t possible. I later confirmed it was identical in every way to the table we were seated at. She just couldn’t be bothered. So that was strike one. Then at 9:30pm, while still eating, we were told that we had to make our last orders at the bar. This was rapidly followed by the bill being thrust upon us and, at exactly 10:00pm, while still finishing our dinner, the music was turned off, the lights were dimmed and all the staff left the floor to relax on a table inside the restaurant. The message was clear: you’ve paid your £200 bill (yes, not a cheap bill for 3) so no you can f-off. Never coming back. If you’re looking for a good Chinese restaurant, I can say with certainty that the China Diner is a much better option.

Visited with my mum and brother for a midweek treat. We have been coming here for over 20 years on and off, and the reason we return is because the food is excellent. However, the reason we had not been for 5 years is because historically the customer service got worse and worse, and the owners or staff do not seem to care. Anyway, we decided things may have changed after 5 years so we gave it another go. Again, excellent food. However the experience was tainted once again by rude, nonchalant staff, and a complete lack of care and attention. My mum highlighted that there was a big draft coming from the window, and asked if we could move tables, and the response was “no, there are no other tables”, which clearly was not true as only 4 other tables in the entire restaurant were occupied. Then we suggested one that was free about 10 feet from where we were, to be told “that one is too small and you can’t fit three around it”…again not true as it was exactly the same Size as the table we were sat on. Worst of all was being told whilst we were STILL EATING that the bar was closing at 9:30pm, and if we wanted another drink we must order one now, and shortly after being asked if we want desert having not seen the menu and we’re STILL EATING. The final nail in the coffin was at 10pm on the dot the music went off, the lights were dimmed, and we were basically booted out the door. So incredibly rude when we had just paid a bill of nearly TWO HUNDRED pounds for a meal for three people. We will now never return, ever. Long standing customers who love the food, but frankly I would not expect to be treated like that even at a low level chain restaurant yet alone a premium restaurant and picking up a large bill. The owner/manager simply doesn’t care, and that is the most disgraceful thing about it.

After reading the reviews we chose this restaurant for a friends birthday and a group of us went in anticipation. We were all very disappointed. Firstly when the starters arrived some of them had been put on a sharing plate, two that were on one plate were for diners on the opposite end of the table so would not be able to reach. The scallops and the crab were deep fried which was not stated on the menu and when queried were told that is how they have always done them, obviously we were meant to be mind readers. The main courses were small and the Kung Po chicken was more like sweet and sour and there was no hint of chilli. The service was poor and can say that this is the worst restaurant I have ever eaten in and that has been many. I would not recommend this at all.

Wai and his team catered for our wedding back in August, he talks a lot of good but his actions speak otherwise, he had a lot of confidence catering for 360 guests. The catering was the most important and expensive thing in our wedding budget yet the worse thing at our wedding, we had so many complaints from our wedding guests even until this day. We understood catering for 360 would not be easy or cheap however Wai made a lot of promises that he then did not deliver on the day. The food came out late throughout the night yet Wai had blamed us for this reason, by the time the last few courses and dessert was served most of my guests had left. The food was salty and rice was uncooked, what we received when we came for the food tasting was not what we got on the wedding. Not only was the food not up to the standard to what we was promised the staff were beyond rude and unhelpful to my guests. My guests left feeling hungry and disappointed with the catering. The fact that me and my husband had to go into the kitchen on our wedding day in our wedding outfits to speak to Wai asking why the food was taking long speaks for itself. I rarely do reviews however I wouldn’t want this to happen to anyone else especially on their wedding day. There aren’t many Chinese caterers out there so we had no choice but if I could do it again I still wouldn’t choose this caterer.

Customer service for take away and delivery is non existent, insultative and argumentative. Service in the restaurant is fine. In summary, eating in the restaurant is OK, bur avoid take away and delivery service unless you want to waste your money.

Hadn't been to the restaurant for years so really looking forward to it. Sadly our table was directly under a 100 watt spotlight and they didn't have another table and couldn't turn it down. Very sad.

A mixed experience really. The atmosphere was good, as was the service. However all food was served on cold plates which meant it was lukewarm by the time it got to the table. Plus the beef in black bean sauce was not that good, being rather low quality meat. Such a shame.

Not bothered about customer experience. Ordered from them many times but they get worse and worse. Previously complained about very little portions in the past but gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought they would take it on board. Lost a customer considering I do large orders often. Again I was Given very little portions in small boxes which was very dry and not fresh at all. Sweet and sour chicken is usually in sweet and sour sauce but it was just a few chicken pieces in a box. Given the wrong noodles asked for chicken chalmain but given Singapore. Waste of money considering I paid £60 and drove 25 minutes to collect my order. Complained over the phone when I got home and they insisted I drove back and returned the food to issue a refund. I informed them I had opened a few of boxes but they did not care they just wanted the food back…probably to serve it to other customers. Was not apologetic at all or even wanted to rectify the food order. Don’t bother ordering from here

I have been here a number of times throughout the years visiting from London to this well established Cantonese restaurant in the beautiful Beaconsfield. The food never disappoints me as well as their friendly service. This family-run restaurant established in the 1980s and retains its original nostalgic setting and style. They serve excellent fresh seafood. If you happen to be in the area and fancy some Chinese food. This without a doubt is the “to go” restaurant. Food 8/10; ambience 8/10; service 8/10; value for money 8/10.

We recently discovered Leigh House - particularly that it does Gluten Free options, which is very exciting as that is hard to find. We've had take away a couple of times and last night we ate in. The food has always been amazing and so happily catering and adapting for Gluten Free. The staff are wonderful, friendly and attentive. Certainly our family's new firm favourite!

Over the last few visits we've noticed that the prices have escalated and they've cut costs on prawn crackers and complimentary chocolates and hot towels. Even allowing for inflation, we didn't expect to pay £25 for two pots of hot water and two spoonfuls of Jasmin tea (you could by a small plantation for that). There are equivalent quality Chinese restaurants in the area (Little Chalfont being one). the equivalent meal would be 20-30% cheaper, or better still go to china town and get stunning food (still cheaper than here). Or just go to the wholesaler Hoo Hing in Park Royal, buy a wok, and cook your own (even Dim Sum). Shan't be going here again.
