Awesome cafe! Great place to chill and the staff are so lovely. Jude made my coffee perfectly!

Been to their police booth at Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill Local Nature Reserve many times… though haven’t left a review. Excellent little find… maybe did that subconsciously… o_O This was my first time to the larger branch near the Meadows. My expertise was they have good food, tea, and make an excellent latte. They were very good with our little girls (though forgot to check if they have a change station). We were in a bit of a rush. My experience is I really like this place. So why do folks seem to love or hate this place: My understanding is they have a policy of asking folks to leave once they’ve been hanging out too long. Personally did not experience thus… this is a place worth hitting up for food, services, and coffee/tea, but a coffee joint is meant for a few cups and a nice chilled time (be in no rush and just enjoy). Parking isn’t the easiest though… got lucky really to find a spot… Did like the up-cycled Singer sewing tables! Lol though happen to sit at the one that has a working foot petal… that isn’t a good mix with little ones, but still liked it :).

Nestled discreetly behind ongoing construction for the past 46 weeks, there's a delightful little tea/coffee shop waiting to be discovered. The owner is the kindest person you'll ever meet.

One of the best cafes in Edinburgh!! The interior is beautiful and you can’t hear the building work from the inside. We were served by lovely young lady, Hannah who was very friendly and made our toasties very quickly !! The chai was amazing. The vibe is very calming! Can’t wait to come again!!

It is a good cafeteria, where you can eat your breakfast, brunch or lunch. It's a little expensive, but the amounts they put in are quite large. The staff is very attentive and do an excellent job. I recommend visiting at least once to enjoy their food.

Popped in on a dreary Sunday morning. Friendly and efficient service. Very happy with my coffee and bacon roll. Plenty of tables so no problems getting space that I wanted. I’ll pop in again.

Unfortunately this place was a huge disappointment. The cutlery and glasses were dirty, I asked for our table to be cleaned and even after it was left covered in crumbs. The staff just did not seem to care at all. The soup was fine, the sandwiches were worse but the bacon was atrocious - somehow both under and over cooked at the same time.

Had a very coffee here, with excellent service. Great at catering to allergies/intolerances/specific dietary requirements. Will definitely be coming back - thank you Monique!

I visited with my two year old son a few weeks ago for lunch. The food/coffee was good but the thing that really made it standout was the service. The staff were great with my son, bringing things for him to play with and generally being very accommodating. Would recommend.

stone cold and burnt pancakes! I paid £6.50, received 2 completely cold pancakes with no fruit or anything, just a pot of maple syrup (which I would have been fine with if the pancakes were not both burnt and freezing which to me implies they were not fresh and the staff had not even put them in the microwave or anything). my partner had a stale small traybake and very average flat white which cost over £4 each!! it was also quite cold in there, even though it looked lovely.

Been here a few times. Food is always good. Service is friendly but very slow and the staff seem unaware when there's plates and things needing cleaned from the tables. They bring your order but don't clear the previous dishes, very strange.

I was back in Edinburgh last week for a flying visit and had a lovely coffee and millionaire shortbread at Leaf & Bean Cafe. My friend and Edinburgh Athletic Club distance running coach suggested it and we loved it. The atmosphere was perfect and the service was very friendly. And it's perfectly located just up from the Meadows, near the cricket pavilion. I can see why several of our runners often drop in for coffee and snacks. Highly recommended.

The food is good, maybe little bit overpriced but it is really tasty and nicely served. What bothered me the most and the main reason I am giving 2,5 stars is the wifi. I spend 40 min trying to connect my computer and it did not work. I went here mainly to send some emails and finish some bits for work, but after 40 min I gave up. I asked the waitress about it and she knew about the issue, so I don’t understand why you don’t fix it. Like get a better provider and package. This literally pissed me off that I left after. Please give a warning or fix it

I decided to try this place out while walking in the area and, oh, how much I regretted it. Hands down the most depressing breakfast I have had in my life. I ordered an egg roll, and all they did was to put a scramble on a piece of bread, THAT'S IT. Not a single green on the plate, not a single hint of color, flavor, or life to it. Not even salt on the sad thing. It is just a dry and disgusting egg on a piece of bread. The meal was about 7 pounds plus the burnt coffee. If you hate yourself or want to take revenge on someone by making them have the saddest meal of their lives, go here 5* for that.

They have a great way of making tea where they fill a bag with loose leaves and it brews quicker. The food is amazing and really friendly staff

Fantastic coffee and great selection of cakes - we came in for both this afternoon. Atmosphere is cosy and the barista Mia was chatty and friendly, will definitely come back.

Had a lovely experience here today. Would recommend the hot chocolate. The atmosphere was lovely and calm and the whole place had a wholesome vibe. I look forward to returning soon.

Service is poor, atmosphere non-existent, and just a bit cold. The woman serving initially ignored us at the counter, despite having seen us, as she stood and chatted to her friend at a nearby table for a few minutes. She then forgot to take down the order properly, despite being told several times, and another waitress had to come and double check. The cafe atmosphere isn't great, it was just full of students quietly sitting on laptops. The cafe was also quite cold inside. Overall the drinks and cakes weren't of the quality for what was being charged for them. Especially when there are better cafes on offer just up the road.

Advertised open till 5pm, but not serving food after 4. Joke!

I was waiting for my coffee, I was taking away to drink at work, but the staff after making it just left it on the counter and didn't even tell me my order was ready.I wasted 5 extra minutes waiting for my coffee because the staff didn't make me aware of my drink being ready. It was awkward. The coffee itself was very okay.

The staff was so lovely when I came in to escape the Fringe madness with my 1 year old. Super helpful and kind. Good coffee too!

Lovely food and great atmosphere

I accidentally put this as my review for a different branch of this cafe, my visit was definately the Marchmont branch and I will edit my review on the other branch accordingly. I ordered a hot chocolate in this cafe & My drink took a long time to be made during a period that wasn't exactly busy, but staff were more concerned with gossiping than serving. Made me feel quite uncomfortable as I felt I was being stared at when sitting at my table reading a book. Luckily my drink was lukewarm so was able to finish quickly and leave. Cakes looked nice, but I didnt want to stay and try as I didnt feel welcome :(

Rude staff, mediocre food/beverages at best, very unprofessional management. Ambiente isn’t half bad. Cannot recommend. You cannot feel safe there as they will publicise CCTV tapes without your consent if it fits their petty agenda. I wanted to give them zero stars but that’s not possible, so I give them a 1. Cheers.

Publicly released personal data information including CCTV about a customer they took a dislike to, and then shamed online for critiquing their poor customer service. Money begging, poor attitude, immature staff and nothing special about this place. Go literally anywhere else for a drink.

Came here and it was swamped with students sat for hours who had only purchased one drink (at £3.30) Luckily the lady wearing a “be kind” badge was having none of it and told them to remove their broke butts from the Cafe before she gave a swift Chuck Norris round house kick to remove them. Truly the best way to run a business…….by making more money and ignoring the entitled life people believe they should live on a social media platform. Full working CCTV too is always a welcome! Keep up the good work Leaf and Bean. I’m here after seeing the TikTok post 😂

The service here is appalling. One time while I was here I overheard some servers saying I didn’t look like I’d be able to afford to eat there. Just a really unwelcoming environment.

Kept getting asked to buy more drinks every 2 minutes, even though I'd already spent over £50 on drinks for me and my juggaloo family. Won't be coming again.

I have been to this location and the one in Morningside many times, and always had a great experience. I love their food, and their Terry's hot chocolate is honestly amazing - I don't live in Edinburgh anymore but I visit with my dogs specifically so I can pop in here for a Terry's hot chocolate after our walk! I've been sad to see all the recent negative reviews that are clearly from people who have never been here and are just piling on after seeing a tiktok. Try actually eating here, sit at the handmade wooden tables with old sewing machine bases, have the staff coo over your dogs, eat the excellent pesto and mozzarella panini, drink one of their many top quality hot chocolates, and then decide for yourself whether it deserves to be run out of business for one mistake. Personally I will continue supporting this lovely cafe.

Really lovely family run cafe in a beautiful spot near the Meadows. Great coffee, amazing cakes and super friendly staff in a bright, relaxed atmosphere. We are spoilt for choice in Marchmont but it's one of the best.

Great coffee, food and kind staff. So pleased to see them going strong after the difficult year cafes have had. Whenever I can, I try to support small businesses as much as I can. They are the real hero’s of the economy.

Disgraceful and rude, posting illegal CCTV footage of customers on their Facebook page over a petty private matter is not the least bit professional - expect more from a business.

Visited today (11.6.2022). Ordered 3 paninis, 1 soup, 1 coffee and 1 tea. The paninis and coffee arrived and we sat and waited. After 15 minutes chased them about the tea and soup. They brought the tea, still no soup. After another 10 minutes went to the counter and told them to forget the soup and ordered two coffees. They brought one! Had to ask for the second. Service is shocking, youngsters who don’t know what they are doing. Somebody needs to train them better. Won’t be going back!

Excellent bowl of soup in nice surroundings. Lots of lovely looking cakes on display although I managed to resist! Worth a try.

Squid Game moment, Truly dearly horrible food me and my partner tried a few items in the menu. Also their chai latte and iced lattes were putrid could not even finish it, ended up leaving within 20 minutes.

Overpriced, really rude service, and it was freezing in there- nevermind the completely unprofessional and illegal manner they dealt with a customer on social media, it shows the great lack of communication skills they have! I hope that girl gets an apology.

Been here on a few occasions and have regretted it every time - the pastries are so dry and stale, the staff are so unfriendly and don’t seem to know the meaning of customer service. My friend’s baby needed a high chair so we enquired about this to a passing staff member, who simply gestured and said “they’re over there”. My friend ended up having to carry both her baby and the high chair across the cafe - I really don’t understand why the staff member didn’t fetch it for us as clearly both of us were juggling a lot at the time, while they were not busy… and to be honest, it’s part of the job you sign up for. Just found that so unhelpful and rude - doesn’t seem like they really value customers at all. Another time they messed up my drinks order and there was of course no apology, plus they were super difficult about it. Don’t really understand people that have customer facing roles when they clearly have no desire to help or be friendly to people. There are so many brilliant cafes in Edinburgh that go out of their way to accommodate customers, that I have absolutely no reason to return here.

Been here a few times after being recommended by a friend. Had a miso caramel fudge brownie when sitting in and had to get another for takeaway it was so good! They also do a really good iced matcha latte, which is great to enjoy in the meadows in the sunny weather!

Super lovely and peaceful location by the meadows, always friendly staff and reliably tasty treats. Sure, it’s not the cheapest cafe in town, but if price is your main concern then sashay elsewhere (there are so many other student-budget friendly cafes in edi, we really are spoilt. Just go there and don’t drag a perfectly lovely cafe through the mud because they didn’t suit your specific needs) xo

Such a lovely small family business in Marchmont. If you want a decent cuppa and a good chat this is the place to go! Friendly and approachable staff who are kind and will help you where they can. Shop small and support family businesses like these 🫶

Went once, was alright. The counter by the window was sticky, and when I asked if I could wipe it down myself if someone had e.g. spilled something and they just hadn't had the chance to get to it, I was told it was because of the wood finish? However naming and shaming a customer for overstaying is entirely uncalled for. As someone who works in the industry and deals with similar issues, public shaming is NOT how you manage that situation. A very odd approach.

How about we don’t dox young women for taking too long to drink their beverage? Unprofessional and gross. Do better.
