We visited here during our Edinburgh trip today (22.07.2024). We were looking for a nice cake to go with our coffee only to be horrified in seeing LOADS of flies crawling all over them! We alerted a member of staff whose response was “cover these up”. They decided to wrap cling film over them!!! After flies had crawled all over them!!! Disgusting, the amount of flies was vile, the cakes should have been binned, we then watched as they continued to serve these to poor customers who had not known. This is a serious breach of health and hygiene and I am absolutely disgusted. we will not be back.

Nice cafeteria near the Waverley train station in Edinburgh for a coffee and a quick bite. The waffles were spectacular and so is the view of the busy Princes street, polite and efficient staff. I recommend this place.

Place is like mc donals, touch screems, order yourself, clueless " baristas, check in , check out.If that is " the urban experience" then I would rather stay in the village.

Grim! queues to use self service machines followed by uncomfortable, cold pallet style furniture to sit on. Far better places a short walk away.

Disappointing. Americano coffees came on the cool side of warm. Requested warm milk - it was cold. Cappuccino was tepid.

I’ll be surprised if this isn’t the friendliest coffee shop in Edinburgh. The staff are amazing and the coffee is even better. This coffee shop is dog friendly. The staff were kind enough to bring him a puppacino. This establishment is filled with great people servicing excellent coffee and delicious food. I highly recommend it.

Don’t get ne wrong the coffee was amazing! But can’t say the same about the service. Today(11th march), We were sitting on the first floor on the far end side and literally 10 mins after (bang on at 6pm). A staff member lady came to us and said they are closing this section and moved everyone to the section near the stairs. And at 7pm came over again and said this is tome for last orders and they are closing and started playing music super loud

Firstly, avoid the robusta.. If you go for the beans they call Blue Volcano you will sometimes get a decent espresso, but it's very inconsistent. The problem with Black Sheep though is their milk drinks, they are VASTLY oversized (probably to hide the taste of the default robusta). I like a proper Italian cappuccino (which should be not much more than 150ml total). Years ago of course I realised that you have to order a flat white in most coffee shops these days to get something the size of a cappuccino (rather than a mug of milk). Then the flat whites became a victim of milk inflation too in many places and it became necessary to order a "cortado" to get a cappuccino-sized milk drink (nothing to do with an actual Spanish cortado of course!). But, comically, if you order a "cortado" in Black Sheep you get a large latte! I guess the ones they call lattes must be about a litre of milk... If you want really good coffee in Edinburgh go to Artisan Roast or one of the other speciality coffee shops. That said, Soderberg's flat whites are pretty good, as are New Town Deli's - much better than you'll get in Black Sheep despite these places not being coffee shops first and foremost.

Afternoon pitstop for a coffee. Busy and bit chaotic where your meant to stand. However lots staff and did ask if they could help. Flat white was excellent. Tastes like a independent coffee!

I spend about 1 month a year in the UK and every time I go I struggle to find decent coffee. I've even had to resort to Starbucks, it's that bad. However this time I discovered Black Sheep Coffee and it was a revelation. The venue is not ideal. There are toilets upstairs and non-customers and dodgy looking types with sunken eyes and the shakes seem to hang around them. The coffee is consistently good though and helped to stave off the bitter cold.

Perfect spot for a solo traveler to sit back people watch and enjoy a lovely waffle. The staff are friendly, especially Jaffer, who kindly refilled my tea. The strawberry and chocolate waffles were the highlight!

Fanstastic service - I accidentally forgot to add an item to my order and the manager very kindly resolved this for me free of charge. Lovely atmosphere and a very nice spot to go to for a Christmas coffee! X

We were served in paper cups although we had paid to sit in and be civilised. They were ‘apparently’ short staffed. I won’t be back in here anyhow!

Staff were miserable, incredibly slow, despite orders being placed via a screen. Also, this is the only place I've been for coffee in Edinburgh in recent memory with flat white's priced over £4. I'm not going to normalise this by ever going back here.

We visited yesterday for 2 coffees, we found the coffee overpriced, staff who seemed disinterested in actually serving customers, very long wait for the coffee, nearly 15 minutes in a shop that wasn’t busy. The vast majority of the tables were dirty and full of used cups and plates. Perhaps we visited on a bad day and yesterday was a one off but unfortunately we would not recommend this place. There are plenty of coffee shops in Edinburgh that will appreciate your custom unlike this place.

Cool vibe, good coffee, smoothie and service. Would recommend. Server asked if we wanted a refill of tea so that sold me.

New coffee spot. Princes Street store is a bit slower than others, but nonetheless I’ll be opting for Black Sheep over other coffee shops from now on. Staff are all super nice too.

Thought the whole experience was very good. A cheery waitress greated me at the door and showed me to a table. The nice Geordie lad took my order without pressuring any sides or extras. The chicken burger I had was really tasty as can be seen in the picture and so was the hot honey sauce I had with the fries. All in a very good burger restaurant and would 100% return.

Very dirty, 1/10 service and the workers smelt of sweat. I asked for nuts free products and all the products contained traces of nuts.

Treated with such disrespect. I have never had such a bad experience. Plus there was a nail in our food. Please if your staff has had a long day send them home. Please don’t have them take it out on paying customers. Awful.
