Le Raj in Bridgend

Visited whilst staying at Trecco Bay, easily accessible by car.Booked by phone, glad we did as despite it being Tuesday night the place was packed!Being from the Midlands I would say we are renowned for good curries so when away our expectations are not high-however, this place exceeded our expectations! The food was absolutely delicious! On the pricier side than what we normally pay and the side dishes were certainly smaller than what we are used to to but everything was beautiful.The staff were all pleasant but as per some previous reviews, mixed in terms of service. We had some water and the waiter came to take away the glasses? Cutlery wasn’t replaced after starters and some understanding of English wasn’t great (may be our accent?) No children’s menu, not all kids like curry, so this let it down and also the soft drinks tasted flat. I noticed others had glass bottles of coke with their orders which we didn’t? But, the food was still amazing so deserved 4*!

Our son took his girlfriend to La Raj 7 years for their first date. Last night we went to La Raj with 9 family members to celebrate his engagement. The service was great, the food fantastic and we had a really pleasant evening. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and the manager always make you feel special. What a great night and great restaurant.

First time to visit the restaurant since the Pandemic. Was excited to be meeting up with friends and give my reccomendation, as we have eaten here so many times before and always had a good time. There for 6.20pm it started off bad got everyone's drinks wrong, So all had to be sent back. Ordered food just mains, 8.20pm had to ask where our food was, as time was ticking on. It seems like all the attention is on the takeaway side & people sitting in restaurant are just left there to sit. Poor poor service. Over 2 hours waiting we had gone past starving to taking it home in trays.

We went to Le Raj as a family of 6. The staff were fabulous with our 5 year old Granddaughter and 2 year old grandson, they were made to feel most welcome and a special part of our visit.The food was outstanding.Everything about our visit was great.I would highly recommend Le Raj.

Food is actually ok but customer service was really poor, really unwelcoming ,slow and inattentive , never again

I have been coming here for a few years with my wife and never had any problems up until recently. Let's begin with ever since they had opened back up from last lockdown it has gone downhill but thought give them the benefit of the doubt. (There has never been any form of track and trace service throughout the whole time the restaurant has been open during to this pandemic)On the last 2 visits they have had many faults. FIRSTLY - they have dropped takeaway lids on floor in front of us and instead of getting another they have gone ahead and given the lid to the customer requesting it. SECONDLY - They have gotten our order wrong and when we have questioned it they just shrug and get on with something else,THIRDLY - They have given us someone else's starter order and again we have questioned it and the young waiter just shrugs and says it's what we ordered and he looks at us like we are gone out, it's not until the table next to us ask where their starters are that they look into it, (they end up bringing our starters for the other table, they then say that's not what they ordered)FORTHLY - The service wait to get some more drinks or even the bill is bad (25 minutes after we asked for these)LASTLY - We received our bill to find they have added drinks for another table and food from another table onto our bill. This has been questioned and they say well it's your bill. But when we tell them we didn't have this or that it's like they don't care.The food as I say is incredible and plentiful. The downfall is the fact the staff have very little customer service. It feels like they are trying to rush you to eat and leave. For this we will not be returning to this restaurant even though the food is good.

Used the place lots, in previous years it was a very good restaurant,My last two visits have been awful. I decided to give them a second chance tonight, but they managed to mess the order up and not give me the food I paid for. All they offered on the phone was a sorry. What I wanted was them to arrange some transport to deliver me what I had already paid for and perhaps fix their mistake. I wasn't so luckyThe other visit I mention the food was awful, nothing like the food had been. Cannot fault Been here numerous times over past 3 years for events such as birthdays and mother day , food has always been spot on and service doesn’t fall short of excellent , would highly recommend to anyone who wants a fairly priced food quality meal with lots of selection

Called here on Saturday, the 14th of November. It immediately lacked atmosphere upon arrival. It reminded me of a hotel restaurant, as staff were not particularly friendly.We were ushered to our table, no smiles from the waiter, just "what drinks do you want".Also, its very bright in there.

Having called at 5.30pm to place a take away for collection at 6pm, to still be sat in car park waiting for food at 7pm is not acceptable.We love the dine in experience & drive from Pencoed each time & highly disappointed to say the least!!!!

Back last year we had a take away from here while staying in trecco bay, we all really enjoyed it and said when we came again we would dine in, last night we dinned in and it was a amazing the food is hands down the best Indian food I have had! The service is lovely and friendly too!

Great food as usual produced in what are difficult times and unusual circumstances. Veg thali outstanding, great value and large portions, will certainly continue to use. Look forward to reopening.

We frequently visit this restaurent for special occasions and the food and service is always excellent. Due to lockdown we have had to use the takeaway service and it did not disappoint. During hard times like this, we need to support local businesses and this is one such business. The manager and the staff are all so tentative and i cannot wait to go to the restaurent when all this ends.

The food was amazing as always. Service was mixed - the door was held open for us as we left and the staff were friendly. However, we were asked multiple times by different members of staff if we wanted to order food (not enough communication between them). And the one thing that has put me off is being asked about 5 times if I had finished my food, when clearly I was still eating! Felt rushed to eat, despite food taking a long time to arrive. Communication between staff needs improving slightly and better judgment of when people have finished food. Even though staff were very friendly and food was excellent, it was overlooked slightly due to these issues.

Ive had both take away and sit down meals here over the past few months. Faultless in every respect! High quality and tasty produce at very low prices. The Veg Thali is excellent value either sitting down or taking away and is more than enough for one person. Still love the environment, unlike any other Indian restaurnt Ive ever been in and Ive been in a few over the past thirty years..........

Mixed experiences here. The duck is great and service friendly. I have had some great meals here but then a couple which didn’t quite hit the mark- good but not excellent.... I still think this is the best place in the area

The food is very good, but the time we had to wait is unacceptable. One hour and twenty minutes for the starters, and forty five minutes to get a drink is not on. The problem seems to be the drive through and takeaway service possibly getting priority over restaurant clients ( can’t see any other reason for having to wait so long ). King prawn starter was nice, but too small, pictured.

Visited this restaurant on Monday and can honestly say the most brilliant restaurant experience I've had to date. The door was held open for us as we entered and from the moment we sat down were treated like royalty. Nothing was too much for the waiters and they were all so knowledgeable about the menu and recommendations were spot on. The restaurant its self was absolutely spotless, not a spec of dust and was decorated beautifully. Most importantly the food was supurb!! Our meals were served very quickly and all were beautifully presented. My food was cooked perfectly and was delicious and I tried a bit of my friend's and was surprised that even something thought I thought would be too spicy for me was packed full of flavour. On a side note I was even in awe of how exquisitely decorated the toilets were and not to mention spotlessly clean. All in all my family and friends and I had an amazing experience at Le Raj and we shall definitely be returning. Would highly recommend to anyone and everyone!!

Went to le raj on sunday and if you haven't been then... GO!!. It will easily become your new favourite Indian, the decor is beautiful and authentic, the staff and service they give is amazing welcoming you soon as you walk through the door, naz was our server and nothing was to much trouble he was very friendly and made you feel welcome, the food was delicious, fresh and hot with an extensive menu to suit everyone, overall the best family run Indian I've been to in a long time! We really enjoyed our meal at Le Raj.

Visited a couple of weeks ago. Had my usual veg thali which was excellent. Numerous small dishes of lovely rich Indian food. Rice cooked to perfection! Excellent price as well, under £12 and believe me although the dishes are small, theres more than enough for one person. Great, friendly service topped off in a friendly, ecclectic environment.

We went there for a family birthday, our reserved table was waiting for us. The waiter service was excellent and knowledgeable and food was outstanding. We will return.

we were on holiday in porthcawl last week so decided to have a takeaway from this restaurant,so sorry we didn't, we ordered chicken madras and chips so nothing too complicated but how could they ruin a madras is behond me, it was watery and absolutely tasteless, the restaurant itself was stunning but shame i can't say the same for the curry, wI'll not use again!!

Not had a takeaway from here for a long while but decided to treat my Mum.

We had a lovely take away from Le Raj and all the dishes were good portions and very tasty. BUT, after spending over £100 we were amazed that there were no freebies - not even free poppadoms!!! When we asked would there be anything complimentary, we were told they don’t do that. What a shame. Most take aways provide something complimentary with an order of £25 or more.

My family and I came here on a Saturday night for a birthday meal. It was very busy and lively and the decor was very elegant and provided a lovely atmosphere.

Been here twice now with my family and i can honestly say this is the nicest indian food we have ever tasted i would deffinately recommend,service is also spot on

The food here is always delicious and full of flavour. The coconut rice is bright green and served in a coconut shell, the pashwari nan is lovely and sweet and the curries are full of spices.

Visited for the first time about five years ago when the interior was dark although the food was good. Revisited the area earlier this week and found the interior was brighter, the staff very helpful and the food excellent. We will be back again - within the next few weeks!!

Been here several times over the past few weeks for both sit down and takeaway meals. Excellent on every occasion, fantastic food for the vegetarian, fresh produce and very very well priced. Service very good and place and decor is fantastic. Will continue to visit this establishment.

When we visit South Wales we always visit Le Raj, the staff are always welcoming and the food is excellent. A brilliant place and highly recommended.

Decide at the last minute to have a date night. We went to Porthcawl for a walk on the sea front and then for food.

Visited Le Raj with some friends for a midweek meal. Ive been here before and have been highly critical of the service I recieved in the recent past. However, tonight everything was top notch. The food (vegetarian thali) was excellent, fantastic flavours with a well balanced combination of rice, bread and curry. Including drinks it was £44 for three of us - brilliant value! Service was polite and efficient so it was a good night had by all. Will certainly return. Oh and the decor is a real ecclectic mix but works splendidly well to create what is a unique atmosphere.

Lovely welcome. Great service and amazing food with so much choice.. We have been here many times and it has never failed us. The restaurant is so so comfortable and feels authentic.

I visited Le Raj as I had driven past it on a number of occasions previously and thought that it looked great from the outside, inside does not disappoint either! Very clean, stylish and modern decor adds to a great ambience.

Really good meal experienced with family and friends for a recent birthday. Extensive menu, fast, friendly service. Everyone spoke highly of the meal afterwards, some friends had been before and recommended the Sunday buffet so will definitely be given that a try too

Had our 2nd takeaway meal from here for my mother birthday my father my self ordered the food and waited we was told it could be 45 mins before the meal was ready which we did not mind as we had two pints when we waiting

Visited twice within two weeks because we enjoyed the food and the experience so enjoyable. It’s a little quieter in the week but even on a packed Saturday night the staff coped brilliantly and also dealt splendidly well with a nauseatingly annoying unreasonable impatient customer who seemed intent on bullying his way out of paying his full bill. Looking forward to experiencing more of their cuisine from the extensive menu.

We have been going to this restaurant for many years and have never had a bad meal...The staff are all amazing and do everything they can to help you out..They go above and beyond to make sure you have a fantastic night.. This is by far the best around..You WILL NOT be disappointed..

We tried reaĺy hard to like this restaurant, the food is great and there's plenty of of it. The service however isn't very good. It's almost like you're being a nuisance and asking for a table. The ladies that serve the food and bus the table are great, but the initial welcome is surly and when our order was (eventually) taken we felt awkward as there was zero recognition of us as valued customers. It's rather hard to understand in this economy why businesses allow this poor level of customer interaction to continue?.

Arrived, decor was very impressive, and at first impression was excited for the rest of the evening- unfortunately this was the only positive. Service was rude! And as such there was a very awkward atmosphere. Food was large in quantity but tasteless and expensive. Will be very unlikely to return based on manner of service.

Popped in for an early evening meal and the food was excellent and the service was too. Made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble.

Everything was excellent,could'tfault anything,staff managed to fit us in ,even though we had'nt book.Meal was plentiful,chicken was just right,poppadom's were just right and crispy,also nan bread was just right,service was good and attentive,everywhere was clean ,would definitely go again.

Ordered by phone and waiting time was 30 mins, turned up 30 minutes later to the drive thru window and food was ready and piping hot. Had a delicious meal here with my husband, the restaurant has a lovely romantic feel to it decorated wonderfully, The staff were great could not do enough for us and catered to our every need. Visited here with my family and had a lovely evening even on a busy Saturday on Bank holiday weekend. The staff were really helpful. I love the decor in this restaurant it's so authentic and luxurious. The prices were very reasonable and the staff were knowledgable on the dishes as we all had lots of questions. The food was quick to come, piping hot and delicious.

We tried this curry house from the recommendation of a friend and have to say were initially impressed with the drive through! The décor inside was amazing as well and we didn't have to wait for a table. However the waitress was a bit dizzy and service was better when one of the men took over. The onion bahji was nice but bland as was my medium chicken curry. The garlic naan was tiny but the chips were nice. The karahi vindaloo tasted of vinegar. Very nice place but we won't be going back.

Post cinema food stop, but enjoyable. Fresh, tasty food, bit of a kick. Pleasant staff and value for money. Air con was a bit chilly but serves me right for not having a jumper! All good.

A section of the menu is South Indian vegetarian dishes, which was good news. My paneer tikka was good - many large chunks of paneer with salad and separate sauce which was milder than I'd have liked. The only issue was a very long wait between starter and main, though we were not in a hurry

We had not visited restaurant for some time, but I'll not be leaving it so long in future. 5 stars all round! The food, the welcome and the service was excellent. W had not booked, but they fitted us in without any fuss. We served by several members of staff and they were all very friendly and helpful. Great choice on menu and the food was great. In common with a lot of other people nowadays thought this restaurant had something to hide as could not see the hygiene rating prominently displayed. However found the rating after I went inside at the bottom of a door ( 3 Rating). Food and service were fine albeit disappointed at the lack of a children's menu.

Family group of 9 of us enjoyed. Plenty of choice on the menu, good size portions and served quickly. Curries were cooked well and on the hotter side of madras/ jalfrezi. Perhaps madras was mostly hot and perhaps lacking in depth of flavour. Nan breads , chapatis and rice lovely . Staff need some better customer skills, whilst what they said was polite they didn't make much effort to connect with us as customers and did not speak loud enough to older group members which was little rude. It's a nice place however and surroundings are pleasant.

Having read some reviews we were a wee bit concerned about the standard of service but it was very slow. When we chased for when we would receive the meal they apologized and said it was because someone was having trout. They agreed that we should have been told. The waiters, on a quiet night, had all mastered the art of "not seeing" people who were trying to attract their attention.

Great food here every time. Become a regular here over the last few months, food is very tasty and nicely presented. Service is very good, my only criticism is that they can get very busy indeed so sometimes there can be a bit of a wait for service. The quality of the food means a short wait does not bother me too much as good food is worth waiting for. Plenty of parking here which is good also.

We always have such a good meal here, the staff are really attentive and friendly. A lovely place for something a bit different. We came with family recently and everyone had really good meals, including our toddler. Fantastic place!

Only been here once, but going again tonight for my birthday. Really lovely staff, portion sizes are good and the food is excellent. Not expensive either, which is a bonus. Two bottles of wine, lemonade, one glass of house wine, 3 starters, 3 main, 6 poppodums £92.

Must be 10 years since I last ate here but the quality and flavour of the food was still as good as I remembered from my last visit. Considering it was a Wednesday evening it was lucky we had booked as the restaurant was almost full when we arrived. After poppadoms, I had Chicken Pathia as my main, with my colleagues having various other dishes, and we shared 3 different rice and a naans between us. The Saag rice was very nice, with good flavour added by the spinach, and I particularly liked the Peshwari naan, which was stuffed with a good layer of a coconut/fruit/spice mix. The Pathia itself was perfectly hot and sour, with good flavours and a hit of chilli coming through. I also tried the sauce in a dish of Chicken and minced lamb that one of my colleagues had, and the flavour in that sauce was outstanding, and is a dish I will try in the future.Give it a try if you are in the area.

This meal was very poor, waiter could not understand us, the colour of the curry was bright red to much , keema naan very poor, this restaurant has deteriated since last visit, Owner said he would compensate but did not, we certainly will not be going back again to this restaurant as we took friends and all were very disappointed.

Since moving to Porthcawl in April 2016 this very quickly became our local Indian. Food and staff are great and the menu has a wide range of vegetarian options. The pricing is very reasonable. We have eaten here numerous times as a couple, with family or a large group and always get great service. Have gone in dressed up or straight from the beach at 10pm after kitesurfing and always treated the same. Definitely the best Indian around.

After our normal choice of Indian restaurant had closed I decide to try the Le Raj, what have I been missing ? A lot is the answer. The food was ordered after a good explanation of the menu. The food was served on time and of exceptional quality. The tastes were so vibrant and beutiful. The peshwari nan was the best I have tasted. The prices were good and very fair for the quality and quantity.I will without hesitation eat her again. Thank you for a lovely meal.

Warm welcome everytime we visit the food is very good the lemon and the coriander chicken starters are lovely in fact it's all lovely .can get busy as it is only open till 2.30pm. They have added a lot more deserts recently too. Book a table not to be disappointed. Go!

Have always received a warm welcome. The restaurant has impressive décor which exudes great ambience.Cleanliness is of very high standard, the loos are spotless too!They have an extensive menu and everything I have every ordered over the years have been very tasteful whether I order a mild or a hot dish. Our 'local' Indian was fully booked so we rung Le Raj and were immediately told they had a table. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and its spotless. Lots of people there enjoying arrays of dishes that all looked delicious. The menu was endless with clear descriptions on each dish, which really helped. Staff were amazing as was the service. Sat in the corner which was perfect as we had a perfect view of everything yet it was private. Food was stunning and very reasonable. Totally recommend and will return soon.

Food was decent, naan bread too thick though. And no Butter Naan available on the menu. Very nice decorations. Would go again.

I went here with my friends. On arrival our table was ready for us and we were immediately offered drinks. While we were looking through the menu we ordered poppodoms with chutney tray - delicious! All of us ordered our own main meals and decided to share a rice and chips between 2 and a pashwari naan between 4 - more than enough food for us! The food was delivered quickly and piping hot. The food was delicious and full of flavour. The waiting staff checked frequently if everything was ok and if we needed any more drinks. We asked for the bill, which was brought immediately and we paid £20 each (inc wine and pop!) I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Took my new girlfriend here for a romantic date and the restaurant was very clean and tidy, food was very very good indeed. Staff polite and well dressed. Toilets spotless. A must if you have never been 10/10

Food always really good, spicy and tasty. Onion bahjis are the best I've tested. Lamb saag balti, pilau rice and peshwari naan all yummy.

I recently took my daughter to Le Raj for the Sunday buffet. We were pleasantly surprised by everything! My arm was broken and in a sling and although my daughter was able to help me dish up my food and carry it back to our table the attentive staff insisted on helping.The decor was impressive and the food was delicious. I would recommend this delightful restaurant to anyone. We will definitely return.

This is an outstanding restaurant. When you walk in the decor tells you that there is something extra special about this place. The food is exceptionally good and certainly a touch above most Indian restaurants in the south Wales area. I have only one cautionary note. On a Monday night we received very slow service. The Manager was not there and there didn't seem to be the same professionalism that we have become accustomed to. There may also have been a different guy in charge of the kitchen. A pity, but don't be put off. In normal circumstances this is a magnificent evening out..
