Really not worth a visit.Ordered a sous vide pork shoulder which arrived at the table as tough as leather. How the cooks managed that in a sous vide i have no clue. Sent it back and was sent an overcooked steak in place of it. Left.Typical chain restaurant garbage. Just walk on past, as to be completely honest you will be better off at Mcdonalds.

We visted the resturant christmas eve, As our freind's raved about it i have taken m time leaving a review as have not been in the country since then.. We arrived and the place was empty all the waiters and staff from san carlo all upstairs shouting and eating.. We was asked our orders the waiter was not bothered what so ever just plonked the dishes down when arived and went back to talking to staff well shouting.. Then the chef comes out and starts shouting on his phone next to us.. Finally 20 mins after finished the waiter asked if meal was ok i told them how i felt and asked to speak to manager, When approached by the manager i told him what the staff was doing and how unprofessional i thought this was, To which he replied "What do you want me to do" the most arrogant vile manager i have come across.. This is a restaurant you definitely do not want to dine at!!!

Food was excellent and quick, wine was also reasonably priced and quite good, however the staff seemed unhappy to be there and the place was very quiet. there was a 10% service charge added to the bill as standard and I was close to asking them to remove it, only the quality of the food stopped me.

I'm not sure how this fits a French tapas restaurant as we found it quite confusing. We had pleasant starters and main and the service was reasonably attentive. The restaurant feels a bit 'make shift' in the hall above San Carlos (and indeed, the bill appeared on my bank statement as San Carlos). A massive hall with tables mostly on one side just felt unusual. It was perfectly average but we probably won't go again (I much prefer cafe rouge or bistrot Pierre).

Atmosphere with live sax player was fantastic, service and food faultless (even making a cocktail for me not from the menu) and great value. Time stood still and the whole evening disappeared. Leicester's best kept secret perhaps. Well worth a visit!!

@Martin8b1 - re review 20 October 2013. As the musician referred to - I am contracted to play 30min sets between 7pm - 9.30pm. I’m given a meal - if requested - which is served when I have finished my sets - usually later as diners take priority. If a diner/friend asks, I am known to continue playing way beyond the time that I’m contracted to play. Your attack on my professionalism is unwarranted and disappointing.

LPR has had some changes made in the last few months which sadly has resulted in a decline of what was once one of the best restaurants in leicester. While food quality remains high, service portion size and menu choice have degraded. Arrived and was seated per our reservation. Note this is meant to be a tapas place. We made our menu choices and ordered drinks within 10 minutes. After 20 minutes our mushrooms and asparagus arrived. We had these and I eagerly awaited our other dishes. I must note staff are not nearly as friendly with special note of the manager who dealt with people as if he had experienced a great personal loss or perhaps we were an inconvenience. After one hour 20 minutes having had no other service, he eventually appeared and gave us some bread and olives without much explanation saying sorry for the delay. No smile or explanation. 20 minutes later all our dishes arrived at once! Again manager and service very poor. Perhaps part of the issue is there are only 2 working front of house. Sadly service resembles it's sister San Carlo which I would sum up as dismissive. We paid a 97 pound bill for 2 including ten percent service tip. We left the restaurant without anyone saying good bye or wishing us a good evening. I am sadly disappointed and can longer recommend this place to friends and family. Jazz music was good though except musician stopped after 30 minutes and had wine and food with friends.... Poor. Bring back the previous manager, hire more staff, increase service and quality and then this lace may have a chance.

I have been to this place on a few occasions and always had a great time. However on this occasion it was a different story. For a Saturday night they had a manager and a waitress. The restaurant was only half full yet out wait for drinks and food was far too long. When I complained to manager about this he blamed the kitchen. When I suggested it could be the lack of staff he shrugged and walked off.

THANKS SAN CARLO FOR TAKING OUR MONEY AND GIVING US THIS TERRIBLE FOOD.

We came upon this restaurant by chance and the sign outside offering 2 courses for £6.50 attracted us. We walked up 3 flights of stairs to the sound of French music. We ordered Tiger prawns on peppers for starter and I had a lamb cutlet in red wine and my husband had fillet of sea bream. The food was beautifully presented, very tasty and perfectly cooked. On the menu it said the vegetables were extra (£1.50 each) and we had new potatoes and chefs veg of the day. We weren't charged extra for these. They have a very comprehensive wine list and also about 20 different cocktails. Al though it was only lunchtime I decided to go for the Mojito. It was just OK there were no sprigs of mint and the cane sugar was very gritty a quarter of the glass was filled with ice. I felt at £5.95 this was a little overpriced for what it was. There is a discretionary 10% service charge automatically added to the bill which I felt was fair Overall though it was a pleasant hour or so to spend a lunchtime in. The restaurant is very clean and very Parisian in style and ambiance-even though at least 2 of the waiters were Italian. There are so many restaurants to try in Leicester that we probably won't return, as unlike La Pierre Bistro, our favourite, it wasn't that special

I had a long trip to Leicester from Bournemouth having never driven as far before and with my hotel just being around the corner I stumbled across this restaurant quite by chance. I have to say what a wonderful place it is in every respect. The restaurant is upstairs on the first floor of what looked to me like a formerly very prestigious Georgian building. The ambience is superb and very comfortable and spacious. Would be ideal for couples as the lighting and mood is very romantic. The food was delicious and fairly priced (they only offer small portions so if you are a big eater you may have to order more from their large variety of dishes). There were cocktails available as well which was a pleasant surprise. The staff are very friendly and efficient so a great dining experience all in all. The only pity is that so many people pass it by thinking maybe it isn't open as all you can see from the street is a rather grand red carpeted staircase and some photos of the prepared dishes. As I am curious and love French food I ventured upstairs and was amazed to be greeted by this amazing restaurant. Something needs to be done to draw people's attention to it from the street. Perhaps offering a "Happy Hour" would be a start which I suggested to the waiter. A big thank you to the staff for a very relaxing first evening in Leicester.

This restaurant is located above its sister restaurant, San Carlo. Have visited it around 3 times during the week whilst in Leicester on business. The food I found to be excellent with delicious smaller portions almost like a French tapas style. Service is also friendly and efficient. Should be busier given the quality but I think it suffers from its lack of street frontage Give it a try!

'Paris' is our pet name for this restaurant because it is Paris in the centre of Leicester. My husband and I have just had a leisurely lunch there, two courses each with side of vegetables and a bottle of wine for less than £30.We had prawns and snails for starter, tagine of lamb and steak and chips and mixed vegetables. OK the portions are not large but they are not small either and the taste is so delicious. I can't wait until our next visit.

This french restaurant serves tapas style food and it is amazing, I think we exhausted nearly the whole menu. Dishes vary from £3-£6, and we were recommended to order 3-4 dishes each. A particular favourite was the duck which just melted in your mouth. My only suggestion would be that L'escargot needed more flavour. The atmosphere was also superb, with a live saxophonist playing jazz music. He even did a rendition of happy birthday for our father. The decor is also beautiful.

Wow, wow, WOW!!! One of the best restaurants in which I have ever dined. Lovely, light, and airy, music at a suitable volume level (although not French..which would be more in keeping...but that is my ONLY criticism), perfect temperature, pleasant service. And now, for the food. This is a tapas-style menu but with French food. Each dish we ordered was cooked to absolute perfection. The taste, the temperature, the whole dining experience was second to none. An extensive menu offering delicious cuisine:- scallops, tender steak, onion soup, prawns, fish...anything and everything prepared to perfection.I highly recommend the seabass special, the soup, the steak with roquefort sauce, the gambas, the mushrooms...and probably all the things we did not order.Do not pass by this restaurant, or you will be sorry!!!!!

I visited this restaurant for the first time on recommendation for my mothers birthday. There was our table of 5 & two other tables in the restaurant. I was working so was limited on time as it was a lunchtime, I wasn't concerned as there were 3 waiters working that day.Well it took 20 minutes to get our drinks ordered & then after a further 10 minutes no waiters were to be seen?? Eventually i found somebody & we had already decided by then that we were leaving so I went to pay for the drinks. The waiter was sooooo rude!! Firstly he didnt ask why we were leaving & when I advised we had been there for 30 minutes at least I was lying??? I was very concious of the time being on my lunch hour? He then advised me if I had waited the food was coming out very fast?? Why should that matter? I am a paying customer that requires a good standard of service! I have never written a review but feel so badly treated that I have decided to on this occasion. I will never return & have advised family & friends to never venture there either! Also where are the toilets? Not one in the restaurant? Surely this goes against health & safety??

Absolutely excellent in every respect. Top quality food, great prices, very good service and a lovely atmosphere. I have walked past this small doorway on Granby Street and always been intrigued although never entered. This evening me and my partner felt compelled to explore and check this place out. Thank god we did as it really was a great dining experience even though it was very quiet. It's a great shame to think that all the greedy chain restaurants which serve bland re heated food such as Ask, Prezzo, Zizzi, Cafe Rouge (the list goes on!!) are packed with customers every night when small independent quality places such as this struggle to pull in more than just a handful of people just weekday evenings. The food was cooked to a very high standard with great attention to detail. Le Petit Rouge also has live Jazz music on Friday and Saturday nights so we are planning to return to check this out.Overall, this is a fantastic restaurant which serves top quality French cuisine at reasonable prices and really deserves more exposure. It is very easy to miss! However we will return again and again as we thought it was excellent. The decor was authentic for a French dining experience and the ambience warm and welcoming. Even the toilets were very clean!10/10

I went to Le Petit Rouge for lunch to entertain two visiting colleagues, shortly before Christmas. It is on the first floor, immediately next door to the San Carlo Italian restaurant, and I understand the Le Petit Rouge is owned by the same people. The restaurant is located in the former ballroom of a Grade II listed building. We were warmly welcomed and seated, and all opted for the French onion soup for starters, which was very nice. As I remember, one of my colleagues asked for a starter from the menu that contained pate de fois gras, but were informed that this was no longer available to to pressure from animal rights groups. I had a lamb tagine for a main course, and my colleague had a whole sea bass, which was spectacular when it appeared on his plate. The restaurant was quite empty when we were there, but, then, we had book early as one of us had a plane to catch. I should very much like to try an evening meal there, especially when, as per some of the other reviews, there is a live jazz band playing.

We were looking for a place to have dinner and the live piano accordion music at the entrance of the restaurant called our attention. Nice recommendation from a customer that was leaving the restaurant helped us to try it. The atmosphere was very nice, with a lovely nostalgic and romantic deco. The live jazz band added greatly to the relaxing atmosphere. The food was very nicely presented and with fabulous flavours. Do not expect big portions, it is French style after all. After two hours we left the restaurant with a big smile. On the downside, the service was too slow. The restaurant was by no means full and still the kitchen and service did not seem to be able to cope well at all. So, expect a very slow service, but enjoy the atmosphere while waiting.

You had to see the funny side of our experience At Bistrot Pierre Leicester on 4/12/24, it was absolute facial, see the complaint I made. It was a good job we had a couple at Wethespoon before we went, wish we had eaten there as well. Good Morning I write to you in relation to a bad experience at your Leicester Restaurant on 4/12/2024.  We had booked a table for 3 at 17-00 for a festive meal, on arrival at the restaurant it was apparent that the staff on duty were very stressed and struggling to cope with what was not a very busy restaurant.  Having been seated it took some considerable time for a drinks order to be taken, which was 2 Mojito's and bottle of Merlot. It took about 15 minutes for Mojito's to arrive served with no straw and we were told that there were no straws. The bottle of Merlot did not arrive and we had to ask numerous times for this, which caused confusion amongst the waiting staff. The starters we ordered,  2x Rarebit and a Salmon Pate took around 30 minutes (the Merlot had still not arrived) the Rarebit was just about as described, but the Smoked Salmon Pate in no way resembled pate, it was a few pieces of what seemed like tinned Salmon with a sloppy sauce thrown on it, my wife said it could be described as "cat food milkshake" served with a tiny piece of bread, she had to leave her seat to take it to the young man who it seemed was in charge, he was seemingly shocked by it, and when told we still did not have our bottle of Merlot said that all the staff were new and had not been trained, also that he had only been manager for a couple of weeks. The wine did eventually arrive. Now main courses, we ordered 2 x Duck Parmentier and 1x Roast Turkey dinner. The Roast Turkey dinner was acceptable but I find it hard to describe the duck dish, it consisted of a few bits of meat, none of which bore a resemblance to duck, stranded under a thick layer of mashed potatoes in a thin sauce, accompanied by badly cooked frozen peas. I could not eat it and complained to the manager, who went to get the chef, she seemed highly stressed and said it was due to "supply chain issues". Enough said about the poor food, it did seem like we were in some kind of reality TV show or a recreation of Fawlty Towers, we fully expected a camera crew and Michael McIntyre to jump out and tell us it was all a spoof.  Joking aside, I have to say that just about all the other customers were having the same issues as us, and I felt extremely sad for your staff who were clearly overwhelmed and under trained in any aspect of restaurant service. The Young Man acting as manager did his upmost to rectify the problems but they were, in all honesty out of his control. We reached an agreement as to what we would pay for this meal. Just another point, the attached picture shows a pile of boxes under a staircase opposite where I was sitting, not a good look or in any way festive. Your thoughts would be appreciated. I did receive a reply from Danny at the restaurant apologising, but he clearly thought that 20% off and a bottle of wine was adequate compensation for a truly awful experience. I did reply to him asking for full compensation but did not get a reply.
