A lovely local French restaurant. Menu on blackboard had a choice of 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts and there were Specials too. Vegetarian options available. Small but interesting wine list and nice to be able to see down into the cellar! Staff were excellent and we all really enjoyed our evening.

Was good all round however food and service could have been better. Order the seafood platter, unfortunately nothing was cracked and became quite a messy endeavour.

Finally been able to visit this little gem in mosley, had a great time there. The waitress/ owner gave us a warm welcome. From starters to deserts everything was spot on. I ordered from the new festive menu. My favourites are the French onion soup, ballotine of turkey and the cranberry crème brûlée. It was also my first time trying escargot/ snails and frogs legs both loverly. I think the images speak for themselves. Do pay them a visit.

An absolute must visit, the owner is lovely and food is superb. The chef is clearly very talented and the menu changes fairly often, so we have visited a few times over the last 12 months, and each time been incredibly impressed

The food was amazing, I wouldn’t change a single thing about it. Every course was perfect. However, if I could remove half a star I would, as we went for the wine pairing and felt that the glasses of wine were so tiny and felt more like a wine tasting. They definitely didn’t qualify as a glass of wine (pictures added). Overall we had a great experience though!

I'll preface this by saying I went to a pop-up/takeover event at this venue, so it's probably not the truest review of the place itself and what the resident chefs offer. That said, the venue is lovely. Very cosy, only 14 tables inside with a little bit of seating out front for nicer days. The event I attended was bookings only and I'd probably say it's best to book if you did want to visit, just to avoid any potential disappointment. It's right in the heart of Moseley so there's plenty of bars in the near vicinity and it's not too far from the city centre if you should wish to continue your night... All round a very nice place with lovely staff and service and I know they have regularly rotating menus so if that's your jam, give them a visit.

Great food, drink, service & atmosphere, we couldn't fault a thing. The food was impressive & they made every effort to apapt the menu to being gluten free for me. The pork loin was delicately cooked & delicious. The kidneys were the best I've ever eaten; so tender & tasty & not at all offal-esq. The broccoli & almonds were a real treat too, I should have ordered more. The house wines were fab. The Viognier was particularly noteable, more delicate than Côtes Du Rhône which went well with the pork. The smoked G&T set things off nicely. The food is not 100% authentic Francaise classique ( that's not a bad thing if you've ever eaten in rural France) but without a loss in quality or flavour. My friend was equally impressed with his choices & the attention to detail of the waiter. The lady in charge makes the perfect host.

RUBBISH - AVOID !!! Went there today after booking online and paying £20 per person deposit. We went there as they advertised Oyster and Scallops. Looked really forward to it, however when we arrived we were told they had changed the menu from what what advertised on there website menu. I mean really? then how come they never called us to let us know, given they had my mobile number and email and we would have cancelled!= and not wasted our time. My wife decided we should give the a chance, so when she ordered a dish with Caviar and guess what the Chef came out and told us "Sorry, when I opened the Caviar, it was off" I mean really total rubbish, more likely they ran out. We were given a flimsy one page menu (See photo). When we left the female waitress told my wife she was in fact Hungarian and was the owner. Not surprised, nothing French about this place! Really very disappointed, and yes we should have read the reviews! Anyway, lessons learned. We will not be returning.

First time in LPB and it was superb. It's a friendly neighbourhood bistro with beautiful cooking. Although tempted to order the turbot or seafood platter in advance, we opted for the normal menu options. We had moule and scallops to start, followed by a sublime skate dish from the specials. Aside from the food, they also have a nice selection of cocktails and mocktails, and a small but carefully chosen wine list. Staff were a delight. They fully deserve their Michelin mention

Visited this evening with my mother and father in law visiting us from France. My husband is a classic French chef and I have to say I was nervous as this was our first visit. As a vegetarian I was concerned there was only 1 choice of starter and 1 main, if I didn't like it I would have had no alternative. There was no need to worry. We were greeted by 3 front of house staff all of whom were very pleasant, friendly, polite and professional. I had the vegetarian options and my husband and parents had scallops and lobster. The food was fantastic! It's extremely rare for my husband not to have a complaint because he knows good food and has high standards himself, even he loved everything and didn't have a single criticism. We enjoyed it so much we cancelled our table elsewhere next week and will dine at le petit bois instead. Thank you also for the lovely card and decorated dessert to recognise our wedding anniversary. A lovely touch.

Great French restaurant in Birmingham that is much needed. Atmosphere is good and the owners and staff are great. The menu is also very well balanced and caters for all tastes. I would recommend this for a causal evening dinner or a celebration or has the ability to cope with either. I will be returning again

Really wanted to try this restaurant and was not disappointed. The food wine and service was excellent from start to finish. It's a jewel in the crown of Birmingham restaurants. The only criticism i would make is that we were not advised that there was a specials menu bit the main menu made up for that

What a wonderfully welcoming French restaurant in the heart of Birmingham. The 3 course Mothers Day meal we received was exceptionally good in every aspect. The staff are friendly and warm, with excellent service from Kate our waitress. The smoked salmon was delicious and the champagne and shrimp sauce with the cod was beautifully made. As for desserts...The chocolate mousse is a must! Top marks all round from me. We will be looking forward to returning again very soon .

I was really looking forward to go there as there are not many French restaurants in Birmingham. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed and fell short of my expectations of French food: the snails were not good because of the poor seasoning, the baba au rhum is meant to be soggy, it was dry. The quality of the steak was not great either. I have to say that the bisque sauce was really tasty but the side was pretty much non-existant with only a few small diced potatoes. To top it all off, two mains, 2 starters, 2 drinks, 2 prosecco 1 dessert for nearly £100 is way too expensive for the quality offered. I will not go back despite the friendly staff.

When this was The Little Blackwood. under the same management, I had a very good, reasonably priced tasting menu meal. I recently visited again after it had reopened as Le Petit Bois and was quite disappointed. The French onion soup had the proper topping but was thin and lacking in richness. I know it's time consuming to properly caramelise the onions but for £8 I expect better. Main course was a Dover Sole to share, supposed to be in a beurre blanc, but it was more like a Birds Eye parsley sauce. It was hard to detect any flavour anyway because the whole dish was completely overwhelmed by masses of sea salt. On the plus side we had a good Rioja from a short, well priced list, and the service was friendly. I don't know how, what I understand to be the same team, can produce two meals of such different quality.

It happened as a matter of persistence. I frequented Moseley Village during last year’s restaurant pilgrimage. I walked past the space that Little Blackwood used to occupy. I really wanted to visit that finer European diner. It unfortunately closed and a cafe replaced it. That closed and Le Petit Bois slowly materialised. Who are Le Petite Bois? Given the name, roughly translating to The Little Wood, it’s no surprise they are the same people that were Little Blackwood. I chose from the Menu Du Jour. £25 buys 3 superbly crafted french dishes. Each were delivered with elegance. One of the highest quality dining experiences I have had in Birmingham. I’m going to have to spend a great deal more to get a French dining experience that is close to Le Petit Bois. I wish you every success.
