This takeaway seems to have changed hands recently & now going under a new name. Visited yesterday (Friday) evening just after 5pm expecting some nice fresh fish and chips as I would imagine a busy time. Everything is new and very fresh and clean in the shop and service was nice & prompt and friendly . However I’m afraid the food was the worst chippy take away I have had in a very long time & most of it ended up in the bin! Chips really dried up and I couldn’t even taste the miniscule amount of brown sauce. Fish had obviously been sitting above the frier for quite some time and had the consistency of cardboard. Only thing that was vaguely edible was the smoked sausage my dad had, Hate to slate somewhere new but this was really poor and I’m afraid I won’t be back. Need to rethink your cooking or taste what you are sending out, so disappointing.

The best fish and chips by far! Regularly visit L’Aurora and never disappointed . All fish is cooked to order and is without doubt well worth waiting for.

Very glad to have this chippy in the village. Batter was fresh and crispy and great chips! Service is quick and we’ll definitely be back!

Stopped on way to the Borders for something quick en-route. We had to wait a full 25 minutes from ordering and expected everything to be freshly cooked and worth waiting for, however the opposite was true. The sausages in batter were like leather and had been sitting in the hot rack prior to being returned to the fryer to reheat My partner had the Chicken pakora which turned out to be chicken in batter and was really dry and heavy, she said it was the worst she had ever been served. Will definitely not be stopping off here again but will wait until Lauder or Earlston for a decent chip shop.

Went for a large group (11) birthday dinner. Had to preorder from a set menu before, which was fine. Good options including a vegan menu with several tasty options. We were a little late due to a taxi issue and main server seemed annoyed and no cocktails or drinks were offered we went straight to serving. For a place that specializes in weddings service was a constant who ordered this or that. They had our names and preordered options could have done name cards or something to make service more efficient. Food was generally good. Portion sizes were inconsistent between items. I had the cod, it was tiny. Atmosphere was as castleish. Overall probably could have had a better meal at a restaurant in Edinburgh without the expense of the taxis, but the goal was to have a special family celebration in a castle. They did not make us feel special. It was fair. Wouldn’t bother with the drive again.

Absolutely awful!! The fish was off went straight in the bin!! Spring rolls were cold inside had to cook them myself in oven! The place has been going down hill for a while now certainly hit rock bottom would avoid it! Only went because Dinos was closed!
