Laura's Fish Bar in North Tyneside

It was one of the best fish I've ever eaten. The service was amazing. Thank you very much for the friendly service and delicious food.

Laura's is the best Fish n Chips in Whitley! No need to try anywhere else.

I decided to try something new as I'd never had white pudding before and the good reviews convinced me to give Laura's a try. After ordering and paying, I was then told white pudding was not available afterall so chose black pudding and haggis. I understand Haggis etc. take a while but it was 25 mins and my fish and chips sat in a box for 10 mins of that. Needless to say the chips and battered fish weren't crispy at all. To add insult to injury, the fish and chips were the worst I've ever had - both tasted funny and had a mushy texture seeming like they've been frozen and defrosted many times over.

There are four chip shops within easy reach of me, but for me this one comes first! The fish and chips here are superb - always freshly cooked, crisp and delicious - and the spicy curry sauce is finger licking good. The service is also always very friendly.

We went Laura Chip shop after reading great reviews, we were visiting just for one night. Me and my wife are both vegan and were not disappointed. There is a separate vegan menu which included numerous different items. We had fish, chips, peas and onion rings which were fab. Everything is made fresh and staff were very friendly. They come very well boxed allowing us the few minutes walk to the sea front to eat our super. A great place for both vegan and non vegan lovers of fish and chips

When an owner is sloppy and uninterested it shows up in the food, and sadly this is what I found here. There are far better chippies in the area and the very best one anywhere the Harbour View in Seaton sluice ...that's a real gem, trust me.

Fantastic. Was very impressed with the full vegan menu on offer. The staff were brilliant. The vegan fish was garnished and the sides were tasty and a good portion size. Would highly recommend and will be returning when I next visit Whitley bay. Thank you very much

Very welcoming place, amazing people and great food.

Had a mix up where i typed my number in wrong to meet for the collection as staying in a caravan on holiday eventually I rang realised I'd gave wrong number they came back and dropped the food off which was still hot after the driver saying it's probs been 20 mins and although it had been 20 mins food was still great couldn't fault the service or the food from the staff

Ordered via uber eats delivered but missing items chips and fish both dry and unappetising. They have a mobile number and don't answer it avoid at all costs absolutely pathetic service.

Lovely friendly lady delicious food & vegan options too thoroughly enjoyed it would definitely recommend a visit. We will be going back 🙂

Amazing vegan food!! It's rare to come across a fish & chip shop that offers vegan options - and they're so tasty. Staff are always to friendly and welcoming. It always feels like a really personal experience.

The fish was amazing, and more than that the owner and staff were too kimd amd warm. The lady who ran the place treated us with some turkish delights when we were leaving. She was too nice.😭 Definitely coming back again!

Was very nice, I had asked if the fish was fried separately to all the other meats (i.e. if it's halal), the owner understood what I meant and offered to fire up a separate vat of oil to fry it separately, great service, couldn't recommend enough if you're around the area and especially if you're muslim!

Fish and chips. Sat outside, fish arrived on a wooden slab and chips in a basket. Also ordered mushy peas and curry sauce which came in takeaway containers. Fish and chips was a medium-large portion ie more than enough but not ridiculous.

Definitely recommend going to Laura's fish bar. Lovely, friendly service. The cod bites were really nicely cooked. Loved the fact when she put salt on, she even lifted up the food to add more salt on the chips underneath. Never been to any other chip shop that has done that before. Really fresh, well cooked food. I don't usually like tartar sauce, but tried this homemade one and highly recommended it. 👌

Food was freshly cooked. Taste fantastic. Served by a lovely lady who wanted to do anything to please us. Her technique was to ensure salt was through all chips and cod bites stayed crispy. I will always go to Laura everytime I go to Whitley Bay 👍👍

I unexpectedly came across this place while in the area and it certainly did not disappoint. Fish and chips were cooked fresh and tasted amazing. All of the staff were so kind and friendly and nothing was too much trouble, I will definitely be returning!

I happened to be in Whitley Bay and needed some quick food. Surprisingly the fish and chips was good (I was dubious by how there were no other customers there on a Saturday lunchtime). The chips were crispy, golden brown on the outside and soft on the inside, which is a rare find for me. The fish batter was good. You even get offered a slice of lemon with the fish and chips, if you like that kind of thing. There was a variety of offering on their menu including vegetarian fish and chips using banana blossom if that's your kind of thing. Even my husband who had 'gone off' fish and chips thought it was great. If I'm every around there and want fish and chips, I'd definitely go back.

Absolutely love this place. Laura is super friendly! The wide variety from fish, meat, vegaterian, pizza, mozerella, ice cream and so much more is lovely.

My girlfriend and I were enjoying a mini break in Whitley Bay and it’s a given that when your visiting the seaside you must have Fish & Chips. A quick look on Google came up with Laura’s which is located adjacent to the Metro station and on walking through the door we were warmly welcomed by the lady who was serving behind the counter. The two of us ordered regular Cod & Chips which was well presented and generous in size as for taste it was simply fantastic. So should you find yourself in Whitley Bay and want Fish & Chips head along to Laura’s and certainly won’t be disappointed.

The fish and chips was very nice. Big portion even you order the regular size. If you ask the staff to make it halal (separate oil cooking etc) they will arrange it for you although it takes a longer time. The lady serving us was very kind too. Highly recommended.

Had really nice fish and chips with homemade tartar sauce to takeaway. The fish melted in your mouth and chips were perfectly cooked. Staff were very friendly, I would definitely recommend.

We had our dinner here and were truly impressed. The food is lovely. We had banana blossom deep fried 'fish', chips, vegan tartare sauce and mushy peas. The banana 'fish' was amazing, better than ordinary fish and of course, the healthy, environmentally better choice (!) There is a fab, extensive range of vegan food and what a good range of non-vegan food, though I can't common on how good it is, I bet it is nice. It is possible to sit-in, we did. However, it has got a great deal of space, so it might be better to plan to take-out.

Vegan options; "fish" cake, and especially the deep fried banana blossom were excellent. Great sauces too, highly recommended.

Vegan fish cake with chips made fresh and absolutely piping hot. Vegan fish cake slightly low on flavour but hey a touch of spice, onion or shallot would sort that out. Amazing lovely staff. Thanks Laura.

I went here for the first time after recently moving to the area. I met a friend here and I had the vegan sausage and chips with curry, my friend had banana blossom fish and chips with curry. The food was amazing, we also had an item they’d only just recently added to the menu, like a deep fried courgette fish less cake, soo delicious. In addition to amazing food the staff there were absolutely lovely. Between the great food and excellent staff I recommend anyone visiting Whitley Bay go here, they’re literally outside the Whitely Bay Metro station.

Went to Laura’s Fish Bar tonight and had a really pleasant experience. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the vegan ‘fish’, which is made of banana blossom and it was lush! Sampled the new courgette item, can’t wait to order it on my next visit!

I visited all the way from Dallas, TX for these fish and chips. The people who own the place are very friendly and we had a nice chat while waiting for the food. I ordered the jalapeno poppers to try them and they were incredible. The fish was a large portion and the chips were crunchy and delicious. I really enjoyed the sides of curry and mushy peas as well. Wonderful coastal town walk for a nice traditional dinner with the family.

We drove a long way to check out Laura’s Fish Bar and it was totally worth it. They do some very good traditional fish suppers (or so my kids told me) but the dedicated vegan menu is where it’s at. Vegan fish n chips, vegan battered sausage, homemade vegan tartar sauce all served with the best chips. Also incredible value of money. 5 of us stuffed our faces for £35. Highly recommend.

This is the second time we have been to this chip shop and lady is so friendly, my partner is vegan so he often struggles getting things like this. I had the sausage & chips with a cup of tea & he had chips with vegan fishcake with a cup of tea was delicious we ate it outside the shop in the sunshine. We had complimentary vegan mushy peas & curry sauce.... Best fish supper I have had in years!!

I take absolutely no pleasure from giving a low rating but I have to be honest it's what reviews are for. I can only go off my own and my families experience also so maybe others have not had the same. Appeared to be frozen chips (awful) Cod bites were like popcorn chicken and still had bones somehow (terrible) Cod was small and tasteless, Doner meat was absolutely shocking also it went in the bin! We were the only customers the time we were there and it still took 45 minutes and the staff didn't even know their own prices! We drove to the place after looking through the reviews which were very good but unfortunately we either hit a bad day which should never happen in the food industry or the truth is that it's awful. Never ever again mind lesson truly learned.

Been a few times, getting the vegan "fish" (banana blossom), fishcake, or sausage. Always very good quality, although the service is slow. The owners are friendly, and it's great to have a place with vegan options.

Order accepted, then cancelled just before we arrived. Told she was too busy and we couldn’t have anything, no apology and appalling customer service. Store was still open for over 30 mins after our arrival and order was placed well before that. Very disappointed and won’t order again

Delicious vegan fishcakes, cheesy chips, courgette cake, and tartar sauce. All vegan. All delicious

When you become a vegetarian or a vegan you wave goodbye to the joy that fish and chips used to bring, but that sadness is quelled by Laura's Fish Bar, as the "fish" and chips that they offer is genuinely better than the real deal. "Fish" made with banana blossom was incredibly delicious. The battered vegan sausage was nice too. Chips were bordering on perfection. The highlight for me, though, was the vegan curry sauce. A 10/10 meal which was absolutely faultless.

I've never really been a fan of fish and chips as I've always found offerings to be greasy. Laura's is certainly NOT like that. Great fish and chips, light crispy batter, beautiful fish, & the best chips I've had for a long time. Service is great, friendly & you can sit inside, outside or take away. Would certainly recommend

This is our fourth visit to Laura’s ( just visiting Whitley Bay) and the fish and chips are fantastic. We order on line and the order is ready at the requested time and is freshly cooked . Portions are large and the vegan options is a definite winner with my daughter. Would definitely recommend

We ordered the fish cake and code bites, recommend the gravy souce which was lighter than the curry one. The cod bites were much better in my opinion.

Never normally put reviews on anything but feel this one needs it Absolutely fantastic from ordering,receiving, eating and finishing lol! I've been meaning to send this review for a while, but the guys at Laura's Fish Bar are the most friendly and lovely people. I had just graduated university, and as a treat, my partner ordered us some delicious grub; she put in a message for them to congratulate me when I went to collect it... they did more than just a little congratulations- they had gotten me a bottle of Bucks Fizz! Such a kind and lovely gesture, and to top it all off, the food was sensational! The food is always top notch, and it's wonderful that they cater to vegetarian and vegans!

Ordered for delivery. Food was still piping hot and crispy when it arrived, other places should take note. I got the small fish which was plenty big enough for me. The batter was thin, light and crispy. The fish inside was cooked to perfection, just cooked through and flaking away. Nice touch of a slice of lemon on the side. We also ordered a large fish which was indeed ginormous. The chips were nice but slightly too big portions, however the leftover ones reheated nicely the next day. The vegan curry sauce was delicious, like a katsu curry flavour. The menu is good, with vegan options and even steamed fish if you want something lighter. I will order from these again next time we want fish n chips.

Trying a new chippy is always a bit of a gamble but when I saw the thought that the guys at Laura's had put in to their vegetarian/vegan options I had to give it a try. Me and a friend both tried the banana blossom fish alternative and it was certainly different but tasted great and it was a really good substitute for fish :) the chips were bang on, too! :) Really great service and can't recommend them enough :D

We visited Laura’s in November. It was a fab place to end our windy seaside walk and warm up. Loved the vegan battered sausage and cheesy chips. My family said the fish and chips were great too. Great vegan menu! I’ve wanted to come for ages to try their banana blossom ‘fish’ and chips after my vegan friends all raved about it. And it was incredible!!! It was a freezing cold rainy day so we could sit inside on the bench and they accommodated us really well. Husband is non-vegan and had the cod which he said was great. Thank you so much xx

Ordered fish and chips for delivery. Driver telephoned giving an arrival time which was very good. Supper was delicious and not too greasy as they sometimes can be. Small fish was large enough for me and my husband struggled to finish the regular one! Definitely recommend.

We went here for lunch to try the vegan banana blossom fish that we’d heard loads of good reviews about, and were not disappointed. The flavour was great, with a really light and crunchy batter, plus some excellent chips to go with it. They also gave us some homemade vegan sausage to try, which had lovely flavours, and we’d defo love to see it appear on their menu!

So nice to find a fish & chip shop with decent veggie/vegan options. The battered halloumi was delicious, and the fish eaters in our party said the cod was the best they'd had. The staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we were just passing through when we stopped here, as I wish this was our local chip shop.

We dropped by tonight as two vegetarians looking for some decent fish substitutes and were met outside by a very bubbly, charming Nihal. She talked us through the menu without being overbearing, made some good suggestions for us and even taught us a bit of Turkish! The food was lovely, the service even lovelier and we will definitely be back. teşekkür ederim! 🧡🙏
